I need your review on this device?
what's working?
and what's not working?
Still newbie with bootloader unlocked.
Recommend me the best kernel and rom that you have tried?
Thank guys
So you unlocked bootloader. Why do not you report in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1730874 about your successful unlock, pushing more people to do the same?
Since you are saying its CM 7.2 STABLE, everything must be working, may be other than things that are not really required.

CM gets a meh from me. It's fast and light, yes but a lot of the stock functions are missing. You need to reinstall a whole bunch of stuff if you like the stock ROM. Walkman, trackID, 3D cam, pano cam and the notification toggles are what I miss most.
Used it for about a day or two then flashed other custom ROMs based on stock. Feels more at home that way..

Actually on dev thread, I only found changelog for cm7.2 RC.
It said that FM radio and 3d cam not work.
On the CM website, only found changelog for general device, not say anything about FM radio and 3d cam fixes.
Thats why I need a review about that bug...

I do not think so. I am not sure but. You can anyways try.
The home and music player apks have dependancies on the stock resource apk. So chances are thin. But no harm in trying.

CM good music quality
I have used CM 7.2 for sometime.
It has good music quality(head phones since DSP manager is in place)
Battery life not good, stock kernel has less governers and IO schedulers
IF the updates makes it battery efficient I will switch to CM permenantly
Esp batter drain is too much when phone is idle(compared to stock or stock moded ROMS)

LoL. Yeah, did that too but, ya know.. it just doesn't *feel* the same. I kinda like the sony extras.. I have CM on my X8 (or rather HAD, since my GF uses it now) and the "basicness" of CM makes it feel kinda empty.
Plus for CM is you can install just about anything under the sun and since it's already light to begin with, changing things like launchers ain't a big deal. I had 6 launchers once on CM just to get the right one haha
Just to clarify, installing stock sony apps on CM is major work. A lot of things won't run because of missing dependencies. Work on it enough and eventually *some* will work or you could just get replacement apps like Shazam for TrackID, PowerAMP for walkman, CameraFX.. you get the point.
Anyway, when on CM, use Rage Kernel for FXP. Way better than the stock FXP kernel. Battery life improves a lot as iONEx says. Just remember, Rage Kernel for FXP. Not the regular Rage.
Oh, and as at FXP125, Radio does NOT work
Thanks for the review guys
Maybe CM is not for me for now....
Miss some sony extra features, even the old entertainment radio
I have tried some kernel on stock ICS rom lately, then decided to stay on KRsH v3+ICS. Most stable and battery friendly, I think
Gonna test MESA kernel today...

Hey,
Just got this phone, and I rooted and unlocked it.
Now want to install the most stable rom there is, for example on Samsung Vibrant the stable ROM was Bionix......
Is there something like that for SGS2?
By stable, I mean everything work just like stock....
Thanks.

They all pretty much work like stock(except cm7/miui), they just differ by themes and kernels, try a couple of them because everyone is going to recommend different ones.
This is the first phone ive had that didnt need a custom rom. Big ups to Samsung for doing what others cant do. Theres only 2 custom roms CM and MIUI and the rest have tacky themes throughout them. Just like the poster above, grab a stock rom, root it, remove any apps you dont want.
Just stay away from experimental builds and betas, and you should be fine.

Great advice. I am on 2.3.3 now KG2, whats the stable latest stock rom out there (preferable deoxed as i do not want useless apps)? As I heard some of the latest stock rom do not perform well.....?
For a newbie, I would advise to just stay with the stock rom. This phone is already a beast in its stock form and you don't really gain alot from all the custom ROMs and kernels, unlike the SGS1.
can I install Villianrom? is that stock rom with just useless stuff removed?
I don't think deodexed is gonna give any better performance. I'm thinking the other way around.
Anyway I recommend stock KI3 or above and root using cfroot from chainfire.
Then use titanium backup to freeze any bloatware. There are lists around. Just posted one myself. Too long to do again.
Use jkay mods for odexed roms from theme section. Great stuff.
3rd party (market) apps like Launchers, sms, dialers, contacts, etc etc etc can be themed to change look and feel.
Have fun.

AFAIK, VillainROM is basically rooted stock + (standard) Ninphetamine 2.0.5 kernel + VRTweaks, which gives you the option to modify a number of things. I've been using it since version 3.0, and very happy with it.
Why not use the stock ROM then? You have one condition for your pick: you want the most stable ROM. Use the stock Samsung ROM. But then you add "by stable you mean everything works like stock" ... but not stock? What? What do you want?
Usually they want better battery life, and maybe some optimization and tweaks. Any more would fry a noobs brain.
Start talking about kernels and they'll wonder why you're introducing corn into the conversation.

try the hyperdroid
there are ONLY two things i like about custom roms
1. they removed the google voice thing
when double clicking the home button it starts an app
the thing is there is a home lag with that process
its removed in most custom roms (villain roms have something called VRtweaks) really nice stuff
2.increased sensitivity
no idea why samsung implemented this
custom roms that have this feature are snappier
currently running Ki8 with speedmod
i used Cognition 1.6 and have always used it before + black android (amazing)
only reason i switched is because he removed RTL support
using stock Ki8 with speedmod

Why not just browse through the development forums and read on what the aosp roms offer.... There aren't that many.
yea im looking for something someone has tried or is currently running right now trust me i looked through the forums
I personally would go with Viper Rom And once Chad's Rls 14 kernel comes out flash that on top of viper and you'd have an amazing rom/kernel combo!

Im going to check that out. When dose this kernel com out? And whats the best kernel to use thats out now with this rom?
viperrom & Infected Eternity are 2 of my favorite and most current sense roms, If your set on a aosp rom, cm7 or MIUI are gonna be what you want FTW.
MIUI latest version I get like 16 to 20 hrs of battery life and that with normal usage. You can also buy Boot Manager app that way you can have a Sense rom just a boot away if you need 4g or 3d camera... thats what I did... I have MIUI and on boot manager I have Senseless rom which have a working 3d camera..
Try Cyanogenmod 7. It's 2.3 AOSP with pretty much everything working but 3D pictures (videos still work) and 4G. Look up cyanogenmod 7 in the dev section - you won't see it from browsing since it's closed right now.
Until Cyanogenmod 9 is released, there's no ICS AOSP with working cam yet.

The one that comes with the ROM is the best because it's the only one that works haha and Chad's should be out soonish
Swyped from mah 3vo!
My two favorites right now are KMyers' version of CyanogenMod 7, it's very stable, has camera working, basically only things missing are 4G and 3D, and it's also extremely fast. The other one is the infinitely customizable MIUI, which is also very stable, with only 4G, 3D and Bluetooth stereo audio missing.
Im gonna give MIUI a go for the first time. Anyone know if MIUI rom has facebook integration?

no, no AOSP ROM has native Facebook integration. I've read mentions of using Friendsync or SyncMyPix to sync contacts' pictures, in addition to using the Facebook app
I am a fan of the official alpha for CM7. I was using it as a daily driver, but now I'm itching for ICS!!!
Hi, I have been asleep for a while now, so I was not watching the scene on 4.0 ICS recently. Now when I got my phone from second repair in last two months, I have noticed plenty of 4.0.3 ROMs, that seems to be more or less stable, with and without Samsung apps and so on.
Because it would take too long to check all of the roms and keep flashing reflashing modding, and testing, I got little tired of that now, and I dont have time to start studying how to cook my own ROM and do it. So I would like to ask you guys for help.
I am looking for some ICS ROM that would be as clean and stable as possible these days, which means, no samsung apps, no extra features, just clean android as close to stock from Nexus phones as possible. Dev should instead of adding new features focus on making the ROM as stable as possible.
Thanks for suggestions, as my signature says I am now on Simplistic rom, which is pretty good, but just wondering if there is anything even closer to what I am looking for you might see somewhere. Thanks for any suggestions

Edit: Just needed to update Widget Locker. Working Fine now
Looks like you are already on a good rom. There are no stable roms yet.
I have tried almost all of them. I liked cm9 the most. Looks like it will be a rom which can be used right out of the box. But lacks some features since it is only experimental.
Wait for a couple of weeks, then you should have many stable roms to try out. Or in a month, or think we will have proper cm9

hi there,
I'm using Westcrips LPH resurrection ROM remix V9.3... and really wow ! I haven't had any FC's or i haven't seen any crashes or something like that.. ? Its really weird because Android 4 is still under development... but this ROM is really ready for daily use !
Vibration with ringtone is within this ROM, You could delete the Google apps if you want bu using root explorer, The only thing that I've noticed is that the vibration don't works with notifications..
Ive already resolved that problem by downloading an app called: Sound Manager. And change the settings under 'Notifications' to Vibrate whenever possible.. And it works..
You should try that one

I've been testing the "resurrection remix v9.3 ICS black edition xxlph 4.0.3. full-wipe". Flashed it earlier today but I've had westcrips remix rom since v8.6 and it has some fc's but they are really rare and battery life is quite good. Also touchwiz has been removed and it has both trebuchet and nova launchers. Give it a go if you don't mind doing full wipe You can find a video of the rom from youtube or by searching android development section.

IMHO, CM9 is the best ICS except you can't record video using the camera app. Wait until the devs get the source code. Other than that, this ROM is outstanding! I think next month is ICS month for all
ok, here goes. I've got an ST15i (Xperia Mini) that I've unlocked using the test point method with presently the kamarush's KRsH Kernel v3.0 ICS kernel (+ WiFi Modules) but planning on moving to the expeacer EXtended Stock Kernel.
my question is, is there some way to use/enable FM radio without plugging in earphones/headphones etc.? I know the headphone/earphone wire acts as antenna but there must surely be a workaround, right? I mean there are hundreds (thousands?) of cheap chinese phones that all allow FM radio playback without plugging in a set of head/ear phones

I was thinking of asking this very same question next, i.e., which of these two kernels gives best battery life. You just answered an unasked question! Thank you!
Also been thinking of flashing a ROM. CM9 is still RC. Is it good/stable? Had been thinking of RealICS 5.1 or even 4.1 (as some people have issues with 5.1)
Hi
perhaps radio could work with a simple jack and an antenna-looking stiff wire connected?

Haha np
And FXP CM9 or KRsH CM9 are the two CM9 ROMS I've tried and both are stable.. But, FXP CM9 is better.. It has more modding options..
Why not try FXP 132 CM10? It's also very stable and quick... And a lot of the bugs in 131 are eliminated in 132..
But if you still want CM9, then I would recommend FXP CM9 ....

Thanks a lot! Might as well try them all, one by one, right? Some people say go for RealICS cuz CM9 has more bugs, others (like you) say the exact opposite. Now that I have finally unlocked the bootloader, might slowly start getting more and more adventurous over the next few weeks (only had the phone for like two months now - purchased new sans warranty).
Off topic, my almost 3-year-old daughter loves the phone, loves talking tom cat, ben dog, doing jigsaw puzzles and coloring on the phone

Well, in that case you would have to try yourself
I still standby the ROMs I've suggested BTW
And yes, explore the modding world, but be smart and careful when trying new stuff.. And always have a backup ready before trying something you've not tried before or/and something that you aren't sure about..
And no matter how careful you are, you are bound to have some problems or the other, but in that process you learn a lot.

I use it as my daily driver. My Z2 has been running the CM11 nightlies since the day they were released for the phone. What are you wondering exactly? I just saw the CM11S thread, but I'm not interested in it. If you're wondering, here's the CM11 downloads for the Z2: https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=sirius
M9 is out I think. It's the stable version.
Can anyone please tell me whether the active noise cancelling (not only the microphone noise suspension, but also the one that works with the special sony headphones) will still work on Cm? I hate to lose that feature as it's pretty much the only reason why I bought the Z2 over others.

It is already expected that Sony proprietary technologies will not be available on AOSP releases unless Sony decided to release its source codes. There maybe decent alternatives such as x-Loud vs DSP Settings but still not comparable to Sony's current setup.
How is CM on the Z2 now? I've been waiting for awhile to try it out as some people seemed to be having some problems, there was a lot of talk of bugs with it.
Well I've been using CM Nightlies since they came out and I can't go back
CM is faster, you have ART, the sound mixer is allot better, tones of CM themes on the play store... etc...
With stock Sony Rom you have noise cancellation but the sound with those headphones and equalizer is bad I have to say. The X-reality is quite nice but unfortunately only works with the Sony App Album witch I personal don't like.
The only thing that I miss is the camera that in the Stock Sony Rom is better... but for the rest CM rules big time! :good:
How's the battery life on CM11?
Better than stock especially is used with ds battery saver on xposed
Im using the one plus one cyanogenmod ROM for the z2 I love it but it constantly crashes :/

I'm not yet have a phone but I'm wondering to buy it as soon as I figure out how well and stable custom ROMs (especially CM) work on it (just because i hate the stock one)

Camera. I had an event to added, needed my camera in top shape, didn't want to take my S4 along. I believe camera still performs best on stock. So dats why
Camera performs exactly the same imo, just doesn't have as many advanced auto modes as stock camera

The difference between the pictures you take in CM and stock is huge. I went back to stock because of this too.

Me too... I would love using CM, but the camera isn't just the same as stock (even on manual mode). Probably CM11 is using old camera drivers?
Recently flashed the M9 snapshot on my Z2 but have been running the nightlies for a while.
Very responsive and snappy usage and comparable battery life to stock (power saver not permitting).
Agree with the others regarding poor camera quality. Fidelity not as high in CM and slower 'shutter speed' than stock which sometimes results in blurry photos.
Otherwise very happy. Will continue using as daily driver.
I hope they can correct camera issues when 314 sources are released.

Flashed M9 release last night and having an issue with data/wifi. When I'm on wifi and either go out of range of wifi or turn off wifi my cellular data doesn't work. It says I have LTE but data will not work until I reboot or toggle airplane mode. Am I missing anything here?
I flashed latest 17.1.2.A.0.314 prior to flashing M9 to get latest baseband. This is on Tmobile LTE.
I have been using it as my daily driver since it was available. The only issues i currently have is that when my phone is docked in the Sony docking cradle thingy and i remove it the screen stays on as-in i have to manually lock/turn off my screen,it doesn't auto-lock. This only happens with the dock not with the normal charger. The second and final issue i have is the lack of the 4K recording feature, but then again that is not an issue for me at all, since 4k is completely pointless for me at the moment.
Apart from the above issues,i LOVE CM11 and will never ever go back to stock.
