Problem importing contacts after unlock/root - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

So I finally could root my XPS and then I went to restore the contacts backuped previously on the internal memory, same way I did when I first upgrade to ICS.
To my surprise, it preforms import but the contacts list is still empty, also, if I add a contact manually it is not recorded on contacts
Anyone? Or should I just start from scratch?

try to copy the backup file to a friend cell phone and give a try there..if it works then this should be a prob with ur flash so try to flash later the rom..
have u updated with pc companion or flashtool?

Well what I did was reflash ICS from start and it works as it should, restores the backup and so.
I did flash the root with fastboot following the provided instructions.

Hi All,
What is the software that cause this error to happen? Is it the Backup and Restore software from Sony Ericsson?
If you are using the B&R software from SE, there is a mini text underneath the selection which states that Contacts Synced using Sync services will not be backed up. In other words, Google, Sony Ericsson Sync and etc will not be backed up.
I restored my Contacts successfully. Here what I done
1) Reset to factory default
2) After the phone restarts I did not do any setup. I skipped all including email and contact setup.
3) Left the phone idle for 30 mins so things could settle.
4) Went to Backup and Restore and selected only Contacts and call log (No messaging or other Stuff)
5) Done. After 99% it says it done but my contacts got restored.
how did u reset it to defaults?
Setting -> Privacy settings -> Factory data reset.
Thanks. It worked for me too. I didn't wait but restarted immediately.

[HOW TO]Backup Apps + Data before upgrading to Gingerbread(2.3.3.)

Now that we have a few good GB ROM's available and all us X10 users have something new to flash again, here's how you can successfully backup your apps and data from 2.1 and then restore to your new 2.3.3.
Backup and Restore is working with 2.3.3
Those who made a backup, can restore all their data by installing the SE backup and restore app. [apk attached below]
Those who made a backup from My Backup, please refer to the instrucions below:
Messages and Call Log using My Backup Root: If My Backup doesnt restore your data, copy the backup data from sdcard/rerware/MyBackup/AllBackups to your computer or another folder in sd card. Delete rerware folder from sdcard, uninstall the app and install new My Backup Root from Market and copy the backup to the new directory(sdcard/rerware/MyBackup/AllBackups). Then restore.
Even though the tool backs up your contacts, it may restore them to 2.3.3 somehow.
Use export contacts (in phonebook options)to make a vcf file and then restore using a third party app like Import Contacts.
APPS: We all know the magic of Titanium Backup. Use this tool to backup all your apps and I hereby confirm that most apps can be restored in 2.3.3. For others, reinstalling from the Market would do the trick, depending upon the app of course.
And those switching between different versions of 2.3.3, can use SE Backup and Restore or XRecovery for an advanced restore to restore only the data.
Wishing you a successful Restoration

Please note: SE Backup and Restore is not meant to work in 2.3.3 Even though most members already know these apps, still useful for those who don't.
Contacts: I strongly suggest backing up your contacts in a vcf file using the SE backup service. There are options of import and export along with it. You can save the backup on ur SD card. Once you are on 2.3.3, you can import your contacts using a third party app like Import Contacts by edam. The ROM only gives you the option to import contacts from SIM card. But with this app, you can get all ur contacts back.

Messages and Call Log: Use My Backup Rootto backup your call log and messages. Even though the tool backs up your contacts, it wont restore to 2.3.3 somehow. This is still being investigated.

I have tried restoring data from Wolf's ROM. All apps with data restored Force Closed on the update. So please don;t try restoring data because something potentially for the worse may happen.
I would suggest you try the methods I have suggested. I have been able to restore all my data without any hassle. Sharing this with all you guys for the same reason. Of course all the backups must be made before flashing 2.3.3

I used MyBackup root, and data didn;t work for me. How did it work for you?
Backed up the data with My Backup Root while on 2.1. Copied the backup (sdcard/rerware/MyBackup/AllBackups ) to a computer(or a new folder in sd card). Flashed WB 2.3.3 and installed the new My backup root from Market. Copied the backup data to sdcard/rerware/MyBackup/AllBackups Then restored and voila!
It is very easy...check my post...

Never trust SE again. They said Backup and Restore wont work. And it actually works flawlessly. Shd have tested before going by SE's words.
Thanks a lot mate.
Those who only made a backup using My Backup Root/Pro, please follow the instructions in the first post to restore ur data.
I do not understand, why they didn't warn us or something about this.
And I do not understand why, they did not add the app in this update.
It's just silly

[Q] Is there a way to restore android deleted system file?

Hi everyone,
2 days ago I tried to update my aunts sensation xl and told her that it is better to update its ROM from 2.3.5 to 4.0.3.
So i created a google account in phone and added it in order to sync contacts....and after 2 hours, I thought that it has been synced.... but I was wrong.
After upgrading device to ICS, and adding the previous account that i made before upgrading, I was waiting for contacts to restore, but nothing happend....
I opened the gmail account on PC and saw that there was no contacts. So the only way for me to restore the contacts is to find a way to restore them from Phone device.
So,is there any software, either on phone or PC, to restore contacts from phone? or is there a way to have access to root folders and files of phone on PC to use a recovery program to restore "Contacts.db" file that was erased while flashing ICS?
I will appreciate any help from you guys to help me saving my reputation.....
Im sorry but those contacts are gone, you cannot undelete a file like that.
Also, for future reference, google only syncs contacts that you opt to sync when creating that contact (everytime you add a new contact, it prompts you where to save it, you would choose Google Sync)

Check the sim card's phonebook if they have any contacts and also check the sd card if they have any vCards left. If not then they are gone forever. You can also try to copy them from your aunt's old phone. (If she has one)

Thank you guys
So you mean that i have to edit SIM contacts again? Add photo, edit numbers, merge and so and so.....?

1) click on thanks instead of saying thank you
2) You won't need to edit contacts if you already have them. But if they are gone then you would have to start everything from the beginning.

[Q] Restore SMS/Contacts to Android 4.3 from 4.1.2 Nandroid Backup

Dear xda community,
recently a Galaxy S2 of a friend of mine got soft bricked. It was just stuck at the boot logo.
The device wasn't rooted or anything so I rooted it, created a Nandroid backup and flashed the latest version of a Custom ROM I recommend to use on the S2 (SentinelROM latest version).
Now he was on 4.1.2 when i created the Nandroid Backup, SentinelROM is based on 4.3. When I copy the mms databases from the nandroid backup to his data/data/com.android.providers.telophony/databases/ folder.
The SMS app will FC until I delete the Database files copied from the Nandroid backup again. Is there any way I can get his contacts and sms out of that nandroid backup on his current OS?
Thanks.
P.S. I will gladly provide additional information!
SMS and contact data are produced by system apps....restoring data from system apps into a newer version of the OS will ALWAYS cause force closes etc.
There *might* be a way around it....
You need to find the software / OS version he was running before and reinstall it....then import the data from the nandroid. Once you have done that.....
1) download 'SMS BACKUP AND RESTORE' from play store then use it to make a backup.....you should find a folder called SMS backup and restore when you search for it.
2) open the contacts, press menu and select import/export (or whatever it says) to create the file.....it should say something like vcf00001 when you search for it.
Move the backups to external storage, reflash the ROM and repeat steps 1 and 2 except (obviously) restore rather than backup.......
Or.......
Simply reflash the original OS, import the data and leave as is......

First of all, thanks for your detailed reply. Is it really enough to just restore the backup while on the same OS version (Jelly Bean 4.1.2) as when the backup was created? Could I flash a 4.1.2 ROM onto my Galaxy S, then restore the Nandroid /data backup I did and I'll have the contacts and sms from my friends S2 (where Nandroid backup was created on 4.1.2) on my Galaxy S i9000? Then I wouldn't need to reflash his S2
Thanks again and have a great day
As far as I know, it's the matching OS version that is critical here.....this simply will not work across different OS's......
The only other thing that *might* stop it working is if the data you are trying to restore is itself corrupted.......
As for restoring the data to the S.....
I did something similar with the vcf contacts file when I migrated the file from my Galaxy W to my S2.....
I can't speak for an SMS backup as I've never tried it....in theory it *could* work, as the backup is made by the app in a format it can recognise independently of the OS/phone, but I simply don't know.....
I would be surprised if data pulled from an S2 nandroid could be successfully applied to an S though.....
Make a nandroid of the working setup on the S and give it a try.....
My wife says I'm a phone geek....She's probably right
BTW.....how are you pulling the data from the nandroid?

I will only restore the data partition from the nandroid so I'd say there's a high chance of success.
I'm pulling the data from the Nandroid by using this command:
cat data.ext4.tar data.ext4.tar.a data.ext4.tar.b > data-combined.tar
to create readable ".tar" files. Then I can browse the backup as much as I want. I can find the sms databases but no contacts database which worries me. I really hope they're just gonna be there once I restore the backup on my Galaxy S.
I'm a phone geek as well
Lol....that's my tapatalk signature........
Is it possible that the contact records are stored on the sim card?

Some of them were. But most of them not.
Ah OK......well the easiest way forward I think will be just to reflash the S2 and restore the data.....
