[Q] Hard reset without password protection - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hard reset without password protection.
Is there any method or application that put the password to be made hardreset.
For example, do not put as password to unlock the device, if someone (or child) for wanting to do a hardreset or unintentionally, the android does not mean that this is done.

Don't think so.
If you're letting a child use the device unsupervised (my wife is banned from even touching it),...... if you're rooted: keep a copy of your latest nandroid backup on external sdcard and PC. So if anything does happen, you can recovery in minutes.

Keys to press to create Bootloader Backup

The screen of one of my two XDA I is broken, but as the whole technical stuff inside is still working I am trying to get hold of my data that is stored on it. Unfortunately the Backup function of Active Sync is does not help because it does not accept my second device as one to put the backed up data one ("...device is not the same...").
Now I want to do it with the SD Backup function of the Bootloader, but as I cannot see what the screen is dysplaying I am not sure what buttons to press. Does someone know what buttons I have to press in what order to make the phone saving the data on the SD Card? Thanks for any help.
I think it is not possible, what you want to do.
There is a backup option in the bootloader, but this is just for the ROM and the bootloader. No additional data will be backup.
Also, if you only enter the bootloader, all of your data will be lost. It´s the same like doing a hard reset...
Stefan
I think you're trying to do something other than what you are actually trying to accomplish. Copying the bootloader isn't going to get the data off of your device. If you need to create a backup of the data, simply remove all your prior relationships then redock your broken unit and then you should be able to create a new relationship and create a fresh backup from the device. However, if you've already entered bootloader, you're done, as entering the bootloader performs a hard reset on the device.
Suggestions
I think what you can do is:
1. Connect your PPC to your PC with USB Craddle and ActiveSync
2. Install Pocket Controller software to control your XDA from your PC. Thus you can see the screen of your XDA on your PC.
2. Use any backup software (Sprite backup or Sunny soft ..) to back up your data.
Hope it helps.

[Q] Please help! Phone asking for screen pin!

Hi. I am having problems with my Galaxy S2. I don't remember the screen pin!
I have done a hard reset, wiped the phone and cacheand even re-flashed the ROM (I'm using Villain 2.5). When I start the phone it goes to the normal first time setup screens, I sync it with my google account etc but as soon as I leave it for a few mins it asks me for the screen lock pin again!!!
I reset it again and this time tried to turn off the screen lock via the settings but to do this it needs the old pin, which I don't remember! Please help!
Ensure backup data is not selected in the Privacy settings. Otherwise google will restore the lock after it syncs.

No it isn't. I even tried making a new google account after i wiped the phone and that didn't work either! I can't use my phone now grrrr!!!
try a reflash using odin maybe?
yeah i tried that too using villians 1.0 rom
Did you full wipe all the partitions prior to re-flashing?
Also google leaves some files on your sdcard or ext sdcard. Delete those too, even fresh format to make sure. I think they are android secure & lost. After first boot, as before, ensure backup data & restore is unchecked in privacy.

Yeah I set it to USB mode and deleted every file on it and formatted the memory card. Still no luck
How about full wipe, reflash, boot (no google account setup), uncheck all google privacy settings, reboot, if no lock pin, then setup google and sync......and see what happens.
Make sure you don't restore system data from Titanium (ie accounts). Wifi should be safe.

Given that a go and....it is still asking for the pin! It starts up fine after a flash and a wipe but then as soon as it goes to standby it asks for the pin again! If I wip it again and don't let it go to standby and go to the screen pin in the settings menu it still asks me to confirm the pin before I can turn it off
Pin is stored in efs. If you have a backup of your efs you could try phone efs clear in odin. But then you have to restore your efs map.
DO NOT TRY THIS IF YOU DONT HAVE A BACKUP OF YOUR EFS MAP, YOU WILL LOSE YOUR IMEI

I've just dl "GSII_Repair" free from market and backed up the efs folder to sdcard. I've also copied it to pc and ext sdcard as well, safe keeping. The dev says can repair as well, but no comments as yet.

What would happen if I lose my imei? I will do a search now to find out how to make a backup of my efs
Ive been away on holiday without my Galaxy as i still couldnt get it working. I tried the efs clear and still no luck it still asks for the password!
Any ideas? Surely someone else has forgotten their screen pin before?!
As its been a while and you still have no joy.....
Flash all back to stock, reset counter with usb jig, and drop it into a service centre.
Sorry can't come up with anything else, because if you screw up the efs, you could be in a world of further hurt.
Just remember to back it up next time. Sorry

Boot Password?

Is there such a thing?
If my phone ever gets stolen, I'll just consider it gone. The first thing anyone with half a brain will do is power it off and pull the sim. By having a boot password I'll ensure they can't use my data and have to wipe the phone.

this would be a great thing, like a bios password
I believe that Ice Cream Sandwich and later will let you encrypt your entire device so that you need to enter a password to decrypt it each time you boot.
The password is entered at the lock screen.
I haven't personally tried it because it appears to prevent custom recoveries from accessing data on the phone.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1388977 for more information.

If you have a password at the lock screen, files cannot be accessed via USB as it won't mount the /sdcard until after the password has been entered. But if you have a recovery installed then someone could just mount the sdcard from within that.
The thief would have to know what recovery is first. What are the odds of that happening? If you do end up getting your phone stolen by a thief with tech knowledge about Android, then consider it your bad luck and forget about it.
On a side note, use Cerberus. It's a hell of an app and you can remotely wipe data off your phone and SD card via www.cerberusapp.com or using SMS via the Cerberus client app (if your phone's internet is disabled).

Wow! I didn't know about Cerberus. I'm going to have to try this out some time. I especially like the idea of being able to take pictures of the thief.

It's brilliant. And for the very minimal amount that you have to pay for a lifetime license (~$4.5), you get to use up to 5 devices with your account. The best way to install Cerberus if you're rooted is to download the flashable zip from their website and flash it. Or copy the Cerberus apk to /system partition and set permissions. That way, even if the thief factory resets the device, the app will remain in the /system partition and still be active. Unless the thief knows how to go into recovery, wipe system and flash a new ROM (highly unlikely), Cerberus will always be there to work when required. If you install it from Play Store then it goes into the /data partition and gets removed when a factory reset is done.

Need help
Hi, i hv htc one v and i want to root it, i tried bt failed. Cd u pls help me....?
reset to factory setting with starting the phone
What if the phone is reset to factory setting with starting the phone? There is an option to do that with out starting the phone by pressing the down volume key and the power key.

Can you disable automatic factory reset/SD wipe after entering PIN wrong?

Currently if you enter the PIN wrong, or wrong fingerprint, or wrong screen-tap code wrong 10 times it will wipe your phone AND sd card. I cannot find any way to disable this. It kind of defeats the purpose of having an SD card if your child can grab your phone and erase it in under 2 minutes.... any help would be appreciated. I have an RS988 so I could root if need be but I don't want to use custom ROMs. Thanks.
I think, the risk that this situation will appear, is same high than you can have lost your phone or it was been stolen.
So i recommend to make a backup with LG backup to a second external sd card every month!
And no, there is no way to protect your phone against secure wipe after entering wrong pin for ten times.
Sorry!
BTW: most of the available restore programs are able to get your data back in this case. It is not an really secure wipe!
and...
Sometimes it seems to be possible to make a backup of all of your date using the adb bridge.
(connection to a pc is needed!) Use Google to get more informations about that procedure!
see here for example: ->
1.) https://www.technipages.com/how-to-backup-your-entire-android-device
2.) https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/general/guide-phone-backup-unlock-root-t1420351
I use LG backup only and i need ~1h to fully restore my H850. (including all setups for right management and sound settings too!)

Can I Backup a locked phone?

Hey Every One
I have a Galaxy A 21s on wich I broke the Screen.
Now a few Yeas later I replaced the LCD but forgot my Password.
-Usb Debuging is Disabled.
-No Custom ROM installed, so i cant delete the Password File.
-oem Unlock is alsoe disabled.
-Find my Phone is deactivated and Google recovery also.
I have now tried a lot of ways to get to my Data but nothing worked so far.
My last resorts are trying to get a full Backup of the Phone and use it in an Android Emulator to Brutforce my Passcode.
or install Custom Recovery, restor my Backup and delete the Password File or get in with adb.
Hence my question woud it be possible to Make a Complet Backup, wit example Odin and use it in an Emulator or restore it on a Rooted Phone?
If any one knows further ways of getting back my Data im open to try things out.
Thanks for the Help.
Edit: I found that i could use adb Sideload to install Apps from stock Recovery. The only Problem i woud need to spoof the signature of the .zip im trying to instal, maybe any one knows a way wit that method?
If you can't access it you can't copy anything.
A data recovery specialist that works with Samsung's might be able to.
I never set a lock on mobile phones or PC bios because you are the one most likely to get locked out! Security is physical, one will pay with blood for trying to steal my phone.
I redundantly back up all critical data often and keep backups in separate locations. Never encrypt backup drives. Hdds are best, flash for quick "dirty" backups. I use my 1tb SD card as a data drive then back that up. Also use two .5th OTG flashsticks.
Phone is always cased. Don't put yourself in the predicament again. Think it through and tie up the loose ends before they trip you. I've lost entire, irreplaceable databases before, not fun.
There's no such thing as overkill when it comes to backing up critical data. Digital data is otherwise very fragile.
Hi, I am in the same situation as you. I forgot the pattern but I really need to recover some data before restoring the phone. With the stock recovery were you able to remove any protection via adb sideload? Thanks
