I noticed that the Samsung email app (not gmail) disables autocomplete, auto capitalization, and auto period when typing in the body of an email. Is there a trick to reenable this?
Yes, I am having the same problem. I'd prefer not to use the samsung email app and use the stock one, like on my old Motorola Droid. Any way around this?
I've found that auto completion etc works fine when X9 is activated for the samsung keyboard but not for swype or for Swiftkey (nor the awesome swiftkey beta)
Am also having this problem - have tried numerous keyboard apps - all do the same thing. Ie autocomplete works fine for email addy, subject, but is disabled/does not work in the actual message content. All work fine in other text input situations such as SMS and gmail however. Very frustrating
bump for possible solution pls?
Can we freeze the built in email app, and install the standard one?
Anyone else having this issue, its fairly annoying like!!
I'm awaiting delivery of my SGS2 (tomorrow!), so I can't be sure about this, but I'm 99% sure.
Freeze the email app and forget about it. Try using the gmail app instead. You can set up your gmail account to collect email from other providers. I stopped using Hotmail and a pop3 account months ago when a friend told me about this. You need to set up the email accounts via the gmail website, rather than in the app, but it works a treat.
Not for everyone, I'm sure, but it solved all my email woes across every ROM I've flashed since.

As far as I am aware, gmail cannot collect mail from ms exchange. Plus, you'd loose the other exchange features such as calendar/tasks etc. It should be something simple to allow auto correct etc on the email text box?

You're correct - it can't get mail from an exchange server. But, if you're just using pop3 then it works great.
Yea, the gmail app works great and is updated regularly. The built in email app that supports exchange is the problem.
I was able to solve the auto complete problem by updating the phone to a newer firmware version(XWKE7), but the auto capitalization, and auto period still don't work.
The reason I asked about freezing the email app was because I had another phone, I think it was the Atrix, that had a signature bug, and someone posted a new mail.apk file that fixed the problem.
Auto correct, Auto Complete, Capitalization & Punctuation
This is a known issue. Its not there with the samsung native keyboard but there with any third party keyboard. The two keyboards which have solved the auto correct and auto complete problem is Smart Keyboard Pro and Perfect Keyboard. Auto capitalization and punctuation has still not been corrected though. But I would any day use an awesome keyboard like Smart Keyboard Pro and live without auto cap and punctuation in the email app than be stuck with the crappy samsung keyboard.
Hope this helps.
Just to let you know.
Auto capitalization on the email client is working now with "Perfect keyboard"
I'm using the native email app on my Samsung Galaxy S2 and for some reason spellcheck and autocorrect don't work anymore. It still works under text messaging, Gmail, and everywhere else (I have it all enabled in settings), just not in samsungs native email app. I've tried using different keyboards, but nothing resolves the issue. I've also tried clearing the data for the mail app and redoing my settings but this didn't help either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I tried searching the forums but didn't see anything about this.
Is it possible to instead just reinstall the email app? I'm rooted if it makes any difference.
I searched and couldn't find any other discussion of this.
I use QuickPic because it has always been way better than the built-in gallery app, but I noticed that on my DNA I don't get the "messaging" option when I hit the QuickPic share button. I can share via facebook, gmail, and about 6 or 7 others, but not via messaging or mms.
I then tried a few other gallery apps on the play store with the same result -- messaging is not an option when I try to share a pic.
It works fine if I use the built-in Gallery app.
Is there a fix for this or is this a limitation of sense or gb?
Thanks!
I noticed this as well, I'm presuming this is due to Sense as it worked fine on my Galaxy Nexus.
It sucks not being able to send photo's from facebook via text. Anyone found a solution to this problem?
I have tried using K-9 Email app and TextSecure and hello sms. All of the three seems to stop running after a while in the background. So if I install the any of the 3 and then set it up and it works fine. But then I switch to another app or do something else or not use the phone for a while they stop working. I have tested this and it seems like android os is terminating the process after a while (none of the apps remain in the running apps list on system settings). So is it possible to get these apps to work? By work I mean get notifications if I receive a text or a new email. Also the builtin gmail app and Hangouts and Stock Messaging apps work perfectly fine, no issues.
can you check this post, it worked for me

Love my Amazfit.
One thing that's been bugging me though. All notifications work for all apps except SMS (using the Android default SMS app, not some 3rd party one). Anyone else have this issue? I've reviewed the SMS app settings a dozen times and they're all correct.

I'm having the same problem. I've gone back and forth with customer service and haven't gotten anywhere. Did you ever find a solution?
using a different sms app for now
