I'm still using radios from an early ics leak. Was wondering if most roms include the latest kernel and radios or if I had to manually flash those separately.
I also already went through the soff process and was planning on flashing a new rom soon
Thanks
You must flash radios on your own. Roms do not include them.

+1 and if they did it would be dangerous to do it

If you're s-on, you need to flash the latest leak to get the latest radios, if you're s-off, there is a thread with the radios in the dev section you can use to update them.
Thanks ^_^ just wanted to make sure before I mess up my phone

ROMs generally will NOT include the radio files which come with an OTA. The radio files are generally posted separately for people to flash as they chose. I'm on my own stock 2.3.4 ROM but haven't updated the radios yet.
Some people claim to see significant increases with newer versions of radios and some see significant decreases on radios. I personally just haven't had a chance yet.
This thread seems to be fairly well kept and up to date with the latest radios and previous versions in case you wanted to move between radio versions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193101
hope that helps!
Hi, I'm fairly new here and I've read that if you flash a GB 2.17 base ROM while on the 2.17 firmware it will make for a better experience. My question is where can I download this and what would be the procedure while flashing ROMs? Can someone please enlighten me because I want to bring out the best in my phone.

Here is the AIO for 2.17 - LINK. You would put this on the root of your sd card, then go into bootloader and let it do it's thing. Will automatically ask you to update.
Then just find the 2.17 ROM you would like to install and flash it.

Does this mess with hboot or bootloader (i.e. upgrade it from 1.4 to 1.5)?
I don't think so. Freeza usually removes HBOOT from his zips. May want to wait for someone else to confirm. Although, if you're already S-OFF you can just download the file in the sticky to go back to 1.4.

Does not mess with bootloader. In the linked post, he does however state that he assumed it was to be used with 1.4.
So I just restore my backup of the stock old base ROM and flash this? Also am I supposed to wipe when flashing the 2.17 ROM of my choice? Sorry for all the questions. Just wanna familiarize myself with this stuff

Don't know what you have as a back up, but I would do a clean install of a 2.17 ROM after you install the 2.17 firmware.

Sorry I have the stock ROM as a backup. Not sure what the base is although I'm sure it's not 2.17. It's whatever is installed after achieving s-off and downgrading. Is it recommended for the battery to be at 100% before flashing a new ROM?

Not necessary for the phone to be 100% charged for flashing. I wouldn't flash with anything lower than 50% though.
Okay so I flashed that zip through the bootloader but I'm still on the 1.13 base. I though that was supposed to upgrade to the 2.17 base

You have to flash a 2.17 ROM. The 1.13 base is ROM, has nothing to do with the firmware that you flashed.
the link has been modified to ONLY flash parts of 2.17, the radio and a few others things i believe BUT it wont make your HBOOT1.5 or change your S-OFF status or hurt you, when u update youll notice only the first few items in the big list off the update, actually get updated.
its exactly what you were asking for and its safe. just make sure u download the file correctly and copy it over correctly. anything wrong with this file can brick your phone since its concerning your bootloader.
Ok I'm either not getting something or I'm totally over thinking this does this have to be flashed before flashing every 2.17 ROM? Do i restore a certain ROM to flash it and then flash another ROM? If someone can detail the flashing process for this I'd greatly appreciate it (including when and what to wipe)

Since you have already flashed the 2.17 firmware, all you need to do is flash a Rom. You do not need to flash the firmware again.
Find any 2.17 or ICS based ROM and flash away. Be sure to read the OP to see what works or not. When I choose a ROM to flash I always read a few of the last pages on the thread to see if any issues are being discussed.
When flashing a new base ROM, it is advised to do a backup. I backup sms, mms, call history, apps, and then do a full wipe prior to flashing. This can help alleviate any potential issues from one ROM to the other.

You don't flash it in recovery at all, you flash it in bootloader by renaming it pg86img.zip, putting it on the root of the sdcard, and let it flash, after that you have the firmware and won't have to worry about it again.

You may not need to change anything...which rom? Some recommend that you update the radio, but it's not required unless you're having issues. It's probably best to update to the latest firmware (minus hboot), but again, not required. Check this thread for the latest:

You best bet is to stay on your original hboot and just update everything else.

This thread has everything you need. Then flash whatever rom you want.
Well I meant in terms of developing a Rom, if I took an existing one and changed it to 1.22

if u didnt take the OTA you need to flash the firmwear and new radio zip.. then just flash a 1.22 rom and your good to go
Hey guys,
Just had a quick question. I'm not new to the rooting game and have been doing it for a while (g1 fwiw) but just had some questions since the new update came out. I'm s off so flashed the updated radios and packages from captain over in the android development forum. My question though is I don't ever remember having to flash an update like that. Ive flashed radios before but I thought the base came with the roms. Am I wrong? Is this different than usual for a reason or do I just have a bad memory. I might be wording my question weird but yeah, anyone with an idea?
I'm not sure what you mean, you flash the radio/firmware and rom and you're updated.
I guess my question is I thought all of that stuff usually comes packaged in a Rom. Except for the radio I thought the base and all that depended on what Rom you flashed and wasn't fixed.

Radios are stored in a separate partition from the ROM. I don't think I've ever seen a ROM package include one.

Roms are built off of different bases. That hasnt changed.
Flashing a rom will update the base (software version)

Ok thanks that's what I was trying to ask. No sleep makes me incoherent I guess. So Captains zip with everything from the ota was mostly about the radio since New roms will include an updated base and kernel?

Correct, the radios and other firmware bits are on the secured partitions that require a signed ruu in order to install if you are not s-off. The base software installs on the system partition so can be installed with just an unlocked bootloader through a custom recovery like twrp. That is why so many people that are s-on and the 1.15 hboot can't take advantage of the new radios. Their only option at this time would be to take the ota. They can however load the new kernel through fastboot or flash GUI and then install a custom rom that has the updated base.

Please bear with me, I'll readily admit that I'm a newb when it comes to flashing ROMs, etc. I rooted my TB with the all-in-one tool and loaded the ICS BAMF Leak. I presume this was essentially an RUU, since I didn't flash any separate radios or anything.
I'm looking for a different ICS ROM to flash, mostly due to the poor memory management on this build.
My question is this, and mainly for clarification- If I wipe/format everything except the SD card, I will have to FIRST flash the ROM, then flash the radio to get data working?
It was only a ROM, and radios don't come with roms but the ones you had when you rooted work with the leak.
To flash a new rom just do the same thing you did for the leak, i have never flashed a radio (except for testing the tool) in a year of having this phone.

Well, that's interesting. I installed the NuSense rom based off the ICS leak, and had to install the leaked radios to get data back.
either way, i got the rom flashed and the radio flashed and working.
Thanks for the rooting tool, BTW

That is because santod modified the ril to work better with the leak radios. I get data just fine with the .19 radios.
