yes you will loose your sms, simply follow this
1. backup your mobile now using clockwork mode
2. restore using kies or odin and root it
3. install kernal with clockwork mode
4. Reboot in clockwork mode and go to backup and restore
4. go to ADVANCE option and RESTORE DATA only, (if you will restore all or system then your mobile will come to same situation where it is now)
5. Reboot
Try it on you own risk, i will not liable for any thing, also if this will not work then you will have your backup to restore to come again on this situation where you are now
thanks but any other safe solution becuse beleve me its v.v important sms
just get an sms backup App off the market, simple

Can you give me the links? Because i dont find the appropriate answer..
Root - is having like admin rights on your phone, it lets you modify sytem files and use apps that need root permissions
Rom - the rom is like windows on your pc, it is the operating system
Stock rom - the rom created bij manufacturer
Custom rom, stock based - modified stock rom
Custom rom, AOSP - android open source project, rom build by creator from scratch
Flashing - rom is short for Reed Only Memory, this memory can not be changed, however you can add files, or remove everything and write something else, flashing
---------- Post added at 10:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:41 AM ----------
Tools
Adb - with adb you can manage your phone from your pc, push and pull files, boot recovery, etc
Flash tool - tool created back in the x10 days to flash rom, firmware. You can also root and install. Recovery (not all of this is available for XS ) and many many more
Recovery - a recovery can be entered before entering ROM, and can flash files to certain areas of the phone, a rom for example. Recovery can make back up of rom (nandroid back-up) and many many more (see doomlords new recovery)
fastboot - software to use bootloader, here you can flash other pieces of you phones memory, like recovery and kernel ( mostly recovery included in kernel
---------- Post added at 10:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:49 AM ----------
Most used file extensions -
.img - files for fastboot(bootloader)
.ftf - files for flashtool
.zip - compressed file for flashing trough recovery
---------- Post added at 10:55 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:51 AM ----------
Note this are just to short descriptions to explain all, it might not all be 100%. Correct beqause it is not that simple as I said, however now when you see the terms you have an idea what the writer means
You can PM me when you want to now something
How ro enter the different modes and thins like that look in the thread from doomlord

To make a complete back up of your phone requires root,
Mayby someones knows an app but I really think you need root
You can back up text messages and thinf witthout root
What do you want to back up?
The link sent should be atached to the big post, it is a thread from doom on how to enter the different download modes on your phone ans stuff, read it carefully before you begin doing anything

I used mybackup.. Is that data enough?
For backing up your apps, you can use titanium backup (needs root), or Astro (no need root)
And for contact, you can sync them to Google account...
Or install CMW recovery and then you can backup all your system (fully rom backup, and require an unlocked bootloader)
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
Music and pics and anything on your internal storage are safe, apps will be lost you can retrieve them from your google acount but that means re install so user data and setting are gone, contacts also on google account or back up app in market( depends on where you saved them) messages is app for in market with a kind of obvieus name, settings are gone no back up possible

Thats nice but he wants to unlock bootloader so he has no root. Meaning no titanium back up (great app by the way) and no recovery
Astro is the thing he is looking for I guess
Unlocked all my phones witin one week of pursache so nothing to back up than, after that like you said. root it
I backed up the contacts as a vcard and the apps using astro. Is there any other thing that i need to back up?
Sorry mate never used it so I have no idea what it actually backs up

Thank you so much for responding to questions being asked by a new android user in the general section rather than directing him to the development section to search for answers.
That had somewhat restored my faith in this community.

Using Latest Venom Rom.
A 'pictures' folder keeps appearing on my phone and it will not let me delete it, share it, or anything.
Won't let me take screenshots anymore either.
there is a text file inside the 'picture' folder and here is what it says:
"Failed to open the file (java.io.IOException
at com.estrongs.android.pop.app.PopNoteEditor$1.run(P opNoteEditor.java:237)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java)
)"
-----------
I've tried wiping caches, factory reset, fully install Rom from scratch, but get same error.
Any Ideas?
I've been trying for days now.
Wiped Cache, Davlik Cacher, done a full restore, factory reset and re-installed Venom Rom...still getting same errors.
So installed Android Revolution from scratch, STILL exactly same issues.
Surely somebody can help me??
thanks
Matt
