[Q] AT&T, Samsung, and crap Apps ... - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

Hi! I'm new in this GS3 forum.
My device is: SGH-i747 (AT&T)
I have the Stock ICS v4.0.4 but rooted.
I bought Root Uninstaller Pro for uninstall all the wasting applications and keep my phone extremely slim.
There are some apps, services, and utilities that I'm scared to uninstall.
Can you give me the list of stuff that I can uninstall safely with Root Uninstaller?
Sorry, my english is very bad.
Thank you!

There is a thread on the subject here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728126

You can just freeze them with titanium backup and if something breaks just unfreeze it..

I manually remove apps from system/app and data/app using root explorer. But first I copy to sdcard in Stock-apps directory and FTP to my PC in case I loose everything. Then if you need yo put something back you gave a copy. Also .make sure you have a good cwm backup on your SD card and you can boot to it in case you remove something needed for the phone to boot.

[Q] Streak appears to be rooted, now how can uninstall all the crap on it.

I'm a new Streak owner (unlocked 2.2 from Dell) and a complete Android n00b. I followed the instructions on how to root my Streak, and I was was successful, since I have something called SUPERUSER residing in my apps. (Although I have no idea how to use it or what it does . . .)
The only reason I rooted the Streak to begin with is to get rid of some of the crapware that Dell puts on it. For instance, the CoPilot free trial opens up a splash screen and then promptly crashes whenever I try to run it. I was under the impression that after I rooted the device I could just delete the .apk files and these apps would be gone, or that after I rooted them I would be able to uninstall them like other apps. Either this isn't the case, or I didn't succeed with rooting the Streak despite what SuperOneClich said. Whenever I use a file manager to try deleting these, it gives me an error.
Anyway, I would really like to nuke the following apps that are wasting space and driving me mad:
Amazon MP3
Assistant Free
CoPilot <-- I would probably keep it if it worked, but it crashed off the bat
Dell Stage <-- Love the phone, hate the UI
Help for a guy who is over his head would be greatly appreciated.
download Root Explorer from the Market, it will let you access internal sd card so you could erase those programs you want.
Download Titanium backup from the market (free). You can uninstall whatever you like or just freeze it.

Titanium Backup will work great for what you want to do. Just make sure you don't delete anything that you need accidentally.

crotalus9,
Before you make any other changes:
1) If you don't have streakdroid recovery on your phone install it and make a nandroid backup.
2) Copy the /system/app folder somewhere (not on your phone) as a backup. You will need a file explorer that allows root access (I use Root Explorer) or use adb.
Titanium Backup is great. I use the freeze feature to test if removing an app has unforeseen side effects. Some apps provide services that are needed. Read the TB wiki for a lot of info on using Titanium Backup.

Titanium Backup question?

First off let me say if this is adressed in another thread or video, im sorry!
But my question is this: How does titanium backup work?
For example, if I run a full system recovery with TB and then flash the sbf file and then load gingerblur, can I then recover all of the settings and apps from titanium backup? If so, how might one go about doing that?
Another example would be, if I return my atrix for a new atrix for whatever reason, could I recover everything after that?
Thanks in advance for all your help guys!

When you start tibu press menu then batch, then select "backup all user apps" (I think its first). Let it run. Then you can run SBC and Ginger blur then install tibu from the market, open it press menu, batch, then go about 1/2 down to "restore missing apps with data" and start it and when its done you have all apps with settings back.
A also highly recommend buying tibu premium as it makes most of this automated.

Ok thanks for the reply! So titanium backup creates a recovery file on the phone that wont be erased and ill always be able to access it?
Also does it work if I get a new phone?

Yes, that would be my question as that is where I am.
I have the directory on my sdcard-ext; I've copied it to the empty directory of the same name on the sdcard yet I can't seem to get at any of my old backups.
What did I miss in the process? Is there a way to make it LOOK at this saved data?
Well I don't know about not being erased; the program backs up the application and all of its data into a folder. You can do single applications or all of them.
If you are say, resetting the phone or doing a factory reset, this is essential if you want all of your applications back the way you had them.
I'm using two phones and when I got my second, I just installed TB on it and backed up the apps that I wanted transfered wwith data (mostly games and things that don't have cloud data) and copied them to the new phone to be restored.
I just bought the pro version that gives access to dropbox and other things but I haven't used any of the features yet.

I believe TiBu's default location is in /sdcard/titaniumbackup (From root location). Now once you back up your apps all that information is stored in that "Titaniumbackup" folder. Now what you can do is copy that folder and where, even your computer and it's saved. You can even load that folder on a different phone and run TiBu on the phone and install the apps on that phone. Usually when you flash roms or even the SBF file it wont erase the internal SD card, at least I've never had an issue with my internal SD being erased in the last 2 years. Just take your titaniumbackup folder and put it on to you internal SD card and TiBu should recognize it no problem.
As far as how it saves it, I think it saves the .apk and it also saves another with the app settings.
Hope this helps clear some stuff up.
Ok cool, thank you very much for the help!

Uninstalling In-built Applications (or Apps that came with phone)

Hey everyone, i'm currently using a xperia x10i - 2.3.3 - rooted.
I looked around alot and I couldn't find the steps to un-installing applications that came with the phone.
Some Applications that came with my phone include: Hami, Hami Apps, HamiBook, KKBOX and a whole lot of other asian applications (I got my phone from eBay). I don't use any of these applications and they are apps that arent supposed to come with the phone (like messaging etc.)
Anyways I can't uninstall them normally but i really want them gone, my device is rooted and I heard it's possible to remove them. Can someone please help and tell me how to do so?
Thanks!
use the titanium backup apk. Go to the backup and restore in titanium backup and search for the application for delete. click on that and select uninstall! Hope i helped you
Or, mount file system as r/w, and mavigate to /system/apps. Delete the .apk's from there.
Titanium Backup ★ root but also ASTRO File Manager
Titanium Backup ★ root but also ASTRO File Manager.
Titanium Backup to uninstall the apps and future backup an app management .
ASTRO File Manager (for file an Phone management) To find all the data that the apps left behind if you don't delete the data an backups then when you login to the market they could say installed, besides you do not know if they are spammer apps or what. I would just delete them all an data too with out backing them up. And then do a Titanium Backup. Or just do a Sony repair or better yet do a factory reset an do a Sony repair then flash a stock/generic 2.3.3 for your region. Just to be sure that way you know what you have. And here are some links too do all that just read and watch the videos and it's easy too do, The first one is the easiest but you can look at them all to be the judge.

But the problem is he got the phone off EBAY and most sms/mms have access to all the phone accounts so I think the best thing to do is WIPE ALL reflash/reroot because the phone is rooted and you don't know where/who the phone really came from or who made the apps. Just to be sure i think that would be a good thing to do don't you, I mean if I/you got a hard drive or sold one you/I would wipe it, The phone is the same thing it's just a different type of computer/hard drive.

How do you remove apps from Optimus V after obtaining root using command prompt?

I have root access now by using Gingerbreak installed on my optimus sd card so now I need to find the correct procedure to removing them from my command prompt on my computer. What are the steps and then what are the commands to remove apps from my Optimus V ?
thanks in advance
I have found a more automatic way of removing the bloatware. I downloaded root explorer and moved the app files from within the system->app to my sdcard. That way if I ever want to I can move them back.
The guy above me is correct as well but E.S file explorer is a free app with no ads and does everything as root explorer and looks better while doing it.
Click menu enable root settings/mount then long click the app you want to delete
I prefer not to delete but simply "move" to sdcard so that I can bring it back if need be.
or you can use titanium backup
Before you move anything make sure they're safe to remove, as in won't affect other apps. Having a backup won't hurt too. Many apps can uninstall system apps, among them Titanium Backup, Gemini App Manager, Link2SD or file managers with root access such as Root Explorer($), Ghost Commander, ES File Explorer and File Expert.
A safer way is to freeze the bloatware using Titanium Backup Pro($) or Gemini App Manager rather than deleting. You aren't likely to be using the space in system memory anyway.
I like using the Harmonia ROM, but I have an S Screen, so I also use the Xionia Anykernel 14 with a button switcher, so it functions GREAT so far, and none of those crappy preloaded bloatware apps, but if I ever need to get back to the original OS, I can nandroid restore my backups of my old system.

Is there a way to get some stock apps back?

Hello, this was my first time rooting a phone so I tried it and everything went well, I deleted some of the stock sprints apps like sprint ID using titanium backup pro, decided to restore the phone but it seems like those apps are not back.
I unrooted my phone to see if that would fix the problem but it didn't. Is there a way to get those apps back into the phone?
Thank you
Download any custom rom (blur rom may included all apps) open it using winrar. Extract all system apps, copy necessary apps in to your sdcard . Then using esfile explorer (with root permission) copy apps from sd card to system/apps or data/apps (or try to install it). Change permission to rw-r-r if needs then reboot.
