Hi,
If, say, I use some app for 10 minutes, which uses alot of battery. And the phone was just after the boot. And then it shows App 80%, Cell Standby 10% and Phone Idle 10%. Shouldn't App start decreasing once I quit it? Why doesn't it?
To the best of my knowlege that number is telling you what percent of your battery has been used on apps (out of your total amount used).
For example, if you had used 10% of your battery and your phone is saying you have spent 80% of that on apps then that meants that the apps have used up 8% of your total battery.
Does that answer your question?

My battery life was very good in Mini. I used the phone for normal talking (around 30 mins) and 3-4 hrs of GPRS and battery wwas kept around 20-30% at
10PM after fully charged at 7AM. At that time the battery usage status showed something like this.
Display -40-50%
Android System 10%
Cell Standby 2-5%
Phone Idle 2-5%
Others (not remebering)-the remaining
Suddenly two days ago my battery started dischrging very fast and my full charge at 7AM came to zero at 4.30PM with similar use as stated above. But this time the battery usage shows something like this and consumption always remains highest by phone idle & cell standby parameters.
Phone Idle 40%
Cell Standby 30%
Android System 8%
Display 20%
Others - remaining
Now, my battery is draining a lot faster than it ever had two days back.
My battery had consistently been draining at around 1% per hour idle until today. Now I'm seeing it drop 5% in LESS than an hour while idle (idle meaning the screen shuts off and I don't use it).
So my question is, what do Cell Standby and Phone Idle mean? Previously they had both been 2-5% and my idle battery use was excellent. But today they both shot up to the 30-50% range and I'm thinking this may be the cause for the excessive battery drain even while the phone is sleeping.
I have not changed anything during these two days. But again to be sure I "Factory Reset" the phone and reinstalled all the software again but found the problem persisting. Moreover, during my travel to office (which takes about two hours) I find battery drain is minimum and same as my earlier days, i.e., it drains very slowly but once I enter my office hall the rate of drainage increases, But previously in the hall also the drainage rate was very low.
My queston is what may be the cause of this?
The only change which I feel is deterioration is signal level because the calls now frequently gets disrupted which was not the case earlier. Can this be the only cause for such high battery drainage ?
An exactly similar experience can be found in some other blog whose link is below ( for reference only)

Anticipating some advice/solution for improvement from the geeks here.
Thanks
i noticed i had the same issue whenever i installed some apps from the market...i noticed in particular a data counter to screen my phone bills and Quick Profiles.
So i suggest to think abotu the last installed apps and try to remove them one by one until you find the guilty one.
Remember afer uninstall to reboot your phone or you won't notice any difference
Have you recently rooted the phone? When I did mine I found there was a shell process left running that was eating battery (but doesn't show in the battery info screen) - Turning off and on again sorted that out
Thanks for reply. I will try your advices. But today I morning I switched off my charging at 4.45 AM and now at 6.37AM I am seeing my battery at 99% ot bad. Let me see throughout the day.
Even i am experiencing this problem
Phone Idle is 59% and Cell standby 37% for me?
Now i have removed all task managers and Info apps
lets see what happens to the battery life
@acemadmav
Your advise helped me to track my problem. I also use a Data Tracker software which was refreshed at 2 min and was the cause of battery drain. Now I have set it to 30 mins and my phone is back to full battery strength. Discharge started at 7.30AM after full charge. Attended not less than 45 mins of call, an hour of GPRS and I am still at 50% at 10PM.
@tejagamer
My Phone idle & Cell Standby is still high at 30% and 25% respectively. I googled about this and found that "Phone Idle" is the state when phone uses minimum battery required to keep the electronics of the phone alive and "Cell Standby" is battery consumed for communicating with cell towers in standby mode. Finally, when battery consumption is ok the percentage used by Phone Idle & Cell Standby doesn't matter.
Thanks

glad to help...it's been some months i'm "testing" my X10 mini about this kind of things, so i'm getting used to track down problems on my phone
Sorry to ask a probably popular question but search on the XDA app is very meh.
Phone idle will always be the top battery killer for the average user. That's just because the phone is isle more than awake most of the time.
You can get an app like setcpu and have a custom profile to underclock your cpu while you're not using your phone though

What do you call murdering?
Is your battery dead in 2 hours, or do you see idle as the top user after 12 hours with 70% left?
Why don't you charge the phone while on. When 100%I turn it off. (Don't unplug power in this whole process ) then pull battery. In a couple seconds you will see a battery with a ? In it. Then place the battery back in. It should say 5%. Let it sit for 3-4 hours. Boot to recovery and while battery status. If no recovery, boot to os and wipe battery status. Then phone idle ( the phone only shows "phone idle" to give you will a total of 100% since before your battery once had about 60% of normal battery life. Now that you have alot Battery, phone idle is a much smaller % than you had before.
Not murdering but in a 2hr space 50+% of my battery is eaten up due to Phone Idle.
I'll try that fully charge trick tomorrow. Thanks.

Before I did that I had ..... 4 hour talk time max. Now im 6+hrs. You'll see. Thank me later
Put your battery in the witness protection program. But seriously if in 2 hours ~50% is gone, I don't think its phone idle. Also something to consider is terrible reception eats battery. And 4g even though its not true 4g those higher speeds come at a cost. I think you can guess what the cost is.
I voided my warranty.

Even if I heavy grind on the phone until its dead.. it will not have a whole lot of battery left, nor will idle consume so much of his battery. So he needs to try the basics of battery maintenance first.
Sorry guys I described that horribly.
I mean of OVERALL drain 50% is Phone Idle. Not 50% battery life.

well now that you describe it like that, use the search and read up on the many threads about phone idle. peeps can't seem to wrap their head around it. and read up on display time too.
Phone Idle should be the remainder of everything else draining your battery, basically the minimum power draw. If you add everything up you should end up with about 100%. I say "about" because android rounds the numbers up/down to whole numbers.
If your phone idle is at 50% you're doing bugger-all with your phone. So long as your actual battery life is normal then there's nothing wrong. If your battery life sucks, then possibly your battery is dead/dying or something like the minimum CPU frequency is set higher than normal causing a constantly higher power drain.
Well as long as he followed the steps. Phone idle will not take such a high % of battery usage on the battery manager. If he talked on the phone for an hour and did pandora for an hour. You would see idle would take a small % vs the talk time and pandora streaming combined/separate.
So I have narrowed down why my battery dies even when I'm not using my phone...for some reason when I look at the stats under battery usage, the battery seems to be awake almost 60 to 70 percent of the time, EVEN when I'm not using the phone...my battery lasted a total of 15 hours...I made a 20 minute phone call and screen usage was 25 minutes on lowest settings....4g was on wifi was on...automatic background data was off...gps on....everything else was off....why is the phone waking when it is not being used???? any way to find out?

Have you tried restarting your phone and then tracking the battery usage?
Just my .02 here, I installed Earth HD live wallpaper and the phone went crazy. I keep it plugged into my laptop during the day and noticed that the battery was slowly draining instead of maintaining, not much only a couple of percent. Toward the end of the day I noticed the the battery charge was in the 50% range and dropping fast, you could see the go down so I did a reboot and the charge came back at 4%. So you may want to look at what you have installed and try removing apps that may cause issues. I removed the app and now no problems, I'm also using Beastmod.
Samsung Galaxy S II International
Samsung Android 2.3.6 update via KIES
Charged 100% and unplugged since 8am.
66% battery left on 2.06pm.
Display mostly is off. Just random short on for checking.
Is that normal?

Short answer: Yes, its normal
Long answer: Battery stats are measured in % of the battery that has been depleted. In this case you've used 34% of your battery and from that 34%, your display has used 43% of it.
Think it this way: Android doesn't measure the total battery, it just takes how much battery has been consumed from full charged and with that number, it splits it down to see which apps/process have consumed battery in that time.
For example: If you fully charge your phone, you unplug it, use the screen for 5 minutes and check the battery stats, display will be probably nearer than 100%.
You could dl betterbatterystats and check out whats consuming your battery. I dont think its supposed to be draining that quickly.. ocassionally,an app might not turn off properly and hogs the processor. what you can do is go to the task manager and see whether anything is in red..
Display looks about right, 33 minutes of screen on used about 15% of total battery.
Are you listen to MP3 or doing somthing else non-stop? Your phone is awake most of the time.
Someone said it before, but its a percentage. If you just leave your phone on standby with the screen off then Cell Standby will be at the top. Comprende? Good. Either that or your phone is possessed by a demon which turns on your screen and intentionally wastes your battery. But its probably the first one.
So I'm rooted on Android 10 and I'm trying to get more detailed battery usage.
I'm using gsam battery and I have extra stats enabled and I'm using betterbatterystats but nothing adds up right to me, or I may not be understanding the data, hence why I'm here.
When I look at the Android usage it says screen % and wifi % etc. And the other usage says apps usage. My assumption is that if I add up all the % it should equal what battery I've used. Example if I've used 10% screen, and 10% wifi and 10% on Reddit I should be at 70% battery left, right? But that's not what any battery app tells me, I'd like to see all the information.
Or am I asking for too much from a smartphone?
