Yeap. Done. Had issues with Modern Combat 3 lagging in Singleplayer. Hmm, btw, any guides to unroot? Just in case I needa claim warranty
Good man
If you ever need to unroot, in case you have to send the phone in for warranty service or whatever, find your firmware in this thread or if you can't find anything specific to your carrier use the most recent one for your country from here and flash in Odin.
Do a factory reset just to make sure there's no apps laying around on the phone that might tip off whomever repairs it (Samsung) that you've been running non-official firmware on it, and get a jig from eBay to reset the flash counter (do a search for "Samsung Galaxy S2 jig", costs a couple of bucks).
Not sure about the MW thing as I've never played it, hopefully someone else might come along and offer a hand (Maybe change the title of your thread ?).

If theres any award for XDA's most helpful member, think you deserve it. Thanl you so muchhhhh. Really appreciate it
Awwww You're much too kind.
No worries, as long as you read up & follow the instructions for flashing a rom/kernel you should be able to handle things just fine, and given you nailed the CF Root thing first go without any dramas (which is a pretty fair effort, a lot of people who post here seem to have problems with it ), I'm sure you'll ace anything you have a go at

Thanks. Anyway, flashed my official :

Firmware info

PHONE: DXKL1

But erm, its still rooted
Flash the kernel on it's own. Hard to say why the kernel didn't take when you flashed the full firmware.

flashed the tar.md5 file. Am i suppose to remove the .md5 and change it to tar?
No. Don't have to remove the md5 bit. If you've tried flashing the kernel on its own in the PDA section of Odin as per my last post, try re-flashing the entire rom.

You downloaded & flashed the "official" firmware as per your post on the first page, didn't you ? If you've already tried flashing the stock kernel as I'd suggested & that didn't unroot your phone, try flashing the whole stock package you downloaded again.

Ok, im on stock rom. What I did was to flash the kernel for root. Firmware wasnt touched. So, erm I have to reflash the entire rom. Any links I can refer to? I'm from Southeast Asia - Singapore
I gave you the links to official firmware on the first page. Yes. I told you how to unroot the phone on the first page with those links :-| I'm not going to tell you which firmware to flash, you should be able to work that one out yourself given you mentioned your original firmware on page one as well.
Hi I was just interested in which way is best to root my device and why.
I broke my last galaxy s2 doing it via odin as I was unable to unroot it.
This time I have done it the superoneclick way and unrooted via ginger unroot app.
Yes I'm a noob and someone if any one answer will have a pop about which thread I should've gone to, but looking around for the last hour has shown bugger all.
I could'nt for some reason unroot with odin and am baffled why.
Any help would be appreciated
Regards Shaun
Root using one of the many root kernels.
Unroot by flashing a stock ROM from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Easiest way just flash CF Root via Odin. Job done simples.
Yes, I'm going to have a "quick pop". Initial search of Q&A forum turned up very similar questions, this is where you should have posted instead of creating a new one?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=8243020
Answers are above, including the link with guides.
Hi I did this the first time via odin, but was unable to unroot.
I used an insecure kernal and had the original kernal but when I flashed the original kernal back it was still rooted.
So this may be a silly question but why do I need to flash a rom as some people seem to suggest?
Sorry to sound thick ( I am I guess ) but so much info has really baffled me.
I thought you downloaded an insecure kernal and flashed via odin and that was it, rooted, then if you want to unroot you flash the original kernal, use usb jig and job was done.
Or am I way off lol
Again sorry if I am that bad
Regards Shaun
If you flash back stock firmware, busybox and superuser are removed, so you won't have root access. Also stock kernel as part of the package will instal stock recovery.

The actual rooting process changes (adds) things to the system, that's why you need to flash a "clean" one to unroot.
The unsecure kernels only provide the means to perform the root, they don't do the actual root.
Kernels like CF-Root or mine (see sig) do perform the actual root on boot, but as said above, it involves adding things to the original system.
First and foremost, thank you all for your info it is much appreciated and I mean that.
But I am totally lost and still have a screwed of G2 in the drawer.
I have followed advice to the T and some how I am no better off.
I mean what has firmware and roms got to do with rooting or unrooting.
I just want to get to grips with rooting before flashing firmware or at least someone to say what I did wrong.
On my new G2 I did it via superoneclick is that wrong?

it keeps coming up with force closeandroid.com and has lost its signal for 3g.

Thats usually in most cases not following the relevant instructions .
This method works but if you cannot understand it then leave your phone unrooted and start reading the Guides and FAQS .
Root + CWM .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Basics are choose your kernel flash through Odin phone is now rooted .
Ignore the yellow triangle or just buy a USB recovery jig to remove it .

Just re-flash official firmware from Intratech's thread [ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KG, KH, KI, KJ, KK1/2/5, KL1/2/3, LA2 Download (mentioned in an earlier post).
Follow his instructions exactly, and you shouldn't go wrong
After you've further researched and read, follow the above mentioned rooting methods to the letter. Done

Flash a fresh/clean ROM like suggested in this thread, that should most definitaly fix that phone and get it back to fully working state.
So just before I do this flashing the firmware, just to make sure you understand!
I do the flashing the firmware as if I was flashing the kernal?
Also I'm on 2.3.4 will it stay as that or will I have to use another firmware for that?
Again sorry if I am getting this wrong and thank you for your patience
Get a USB jig.
Flash your stock rom of choice from the intratech thread.
Flash speedmod kernel or whichever you want to gain root.
PS. You shouldn't be flashing anything if you don't know what your doing.....

The intention is to get the phone in a working state, so you can just about flash any official firmware you like. Your Android version will also upgrade if you flash a newer package.
Good reports about XILA2. May have a few Italian apps on it, you may wish to keep them or uninstall later. You may have to flash a seperate CSC later, or just manually enter your APN.
Follow Intratech's instructions and go for it!
I was on Samsung GT-I9100 / I9100XXK14 / 2.635.7-I9100XXK14 before rooting and flashing custom roms. On 2nd flash I lost all sms and call logs (nothing else) while using Titanium Backup Pro. I also had backed up in Kies. But found out I can't restore from Kies becuz it doesn't recognize custom rom. Purchased TB after I lost original XXK14 firmware due to a botched backup on my part. Can anyone help me get back to my XXK14 firmware temorarily so I cans restore sms and call logs?

Saw this link earlier but the XXK14 download link is broken and I'm not knowledgable as to what other stock roms I can use here in the U.S. on AT&T (not sure that carrier is an issue other than the fact ATT is GSM / HSPA+ 21 Mbps). I'd really appreciate directions to an alternate XXK14 link and/or another compatible GB 2.3.5 stock firmware.

Here is what you need to do
1. Get Check FUS downloader: LINK
2. Run FUS Select you Carrier / Region / Model and Download the Stock firmware for your phone.
3. Backup anything you need. You will need to wipe the data and the cache from Recovery mode before you flash the downloaded Fware..
4. Use ODIN and Flash the Downloaded Stock Firmware to your phone. You will loose the root access and you should have your stock back. Yeah before Install Wipe data and cache.
Lemme know if that works. If any doubt... just ask. Dont do anything wrong i'll try to help if i know the answer.

Did you try the "firmwares" link??
I have concerns about you flashing your phone if you can't navigate a website... No offense. I'm not trying to be insulting, but it's really easy to find.
Hi guys,
I'm a newbie so please bare with me. I have a Virgin Mobile UK Samsung Galaxy S2 which was on Gingerbread 2.3.4 or 5. I foolishly flashed it yesterday to yes you guessed it, ICS 4.0.3. Now as far as the phone itself is concerned, everything is working pefectly fine. No issues whatsoever except now I've noticed that my carrier has changed to T-Mobile UK even though the phone has full functionality on the Virgin network still? Also I get the "This device cannot download firmware" message now when connected to Kies.
Have I totally ruined my phones chances of downloading any official firmware in the furture now? And how can I correct the display of my carrier? I'm guessing I will have to find a stock ROM from somewhere and re-install. But doesn't that do something to a ROM install counter someware on the phone?
Thank you in advance.

You are fine. Nothing has gone wrong. Use the FUS and get the stock firmware for you phone. Flash it via ODIN... Read the above few posts.
For your Flash counter and Bin counter, You can reset it back to zero. Look for Triangle.apk . TO use that you need to have a rooted device. Super user permissions... so run Triangle while you have rooted device? If not then root it to reset the bin or flash counter ( If you want) or just flash back the stock Fware..
No you havent ruined you phone. You can download all official firmwares. Just wait for the offical ICS for your region.
Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply. So just to clarify... If I re-install the stock firmware there will be no need to root the device and install the program that resets the counters?
Also, I've noticed that Virgin Mobile UK isn't listed under my territory?
Thanks again.

Hi there. First off all, i AM familiar with the process of rooting. I have rooted a few phones before(not recently). This is not what i need help with.
However, i have never unrooted a device/gone back to stock firmware.
I am currently thinking about rooting my SGS3. But at some time, i am going to sell the phone to someone else. And they would probably want a "new"/fresh phone with stock firmware.
Therefore what i need help with is how to unroot my S3.
As far as i understand. This is done by flashing the device and put the firmware (XXELLA) on it.
But if i already have rooted my device, and i do as mentioned above, will this work as an unroot?
If i do this, will the phone be as it currently is(before rooting)? Or will there be small changes or flaws/differences from the current firmware?
The firmware i have found and wich is corresponding with my currently firmware is:
I9300XXELL1_I9300AMNELL1_AMN
(could not post link since i do not have enough posts yet)
Does anyone know if this would be the same firmware wich is currently on my device?
I may have misunderstood parts of the process, so please have me excused for this.
Thanks in advance.
See the attached picture for device information.
ELL1 is not the same as ELLA. it will unroot, yes

I forgot to say that when i unpack what i download i get:
KIES_HOME_I9300XXELLA_I9300OXAELLA_742798_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
So i guess this is the XXELLA firmware.
I have also checked out several guides for updating with this firmware, and every guide links to this file.
yes, it's the same
Moved to proper forum.
You will also want to remove the flash counter, using Triangle Away.
Alternatively, you can follow this thread here
This way, the one you are selling your phone to will have the warranty in place
