How can they do it? CDMA verse GSM technology. Maybe in the LTE market possibly if using the same radio frequencies and technology...
Secretly send some where in the KC metro area...

Yes and I quote
" The first is the U.S. Federal Communication Commission's 2010 decision to eliminate the "Home Market Rule", which prevented carriers from forcing rivals into compulsory roaming agreements in regions they owned spectrum (AT&T voiced its frustration at the time). The elimination means that even though Sprint owns spectrum in these two metropolitan regions, it can refuse to use that spectrum, instead renting it out and relying on compulsory roaming from AT&T."
The second regulatory change is the FCC's 2011 "extended" roaming rules (a link to these rules on the FCC's servers appear to be inaccessible at present), which required carriers to offer high speed broadband roaming to small rivals, as well as voice services. Again this allows Sprint to piggyback off of AT&T's high-speed LTE network in these metro regions."
How else should take this?

You can aready roam on different networks, from my understanding its full time roaming. But I do not know that's why I asked
Sent from my PG86100 using Xparent Red Tapatalk
they ARE NOT selling contracts at&t! they are using at&t's network as their cellular backbone in those cities. same thing as roaming onto a verizon network.
how can they do it? more than likely they will be placing the proper equipment on already established at&t towers. same as the local telco hanging copper on power poles.
For god's sake, find yourself some cozy place to discuss Sprint services other than this forum section. Jesus, E3D isn't only a Sprint product, FYI, there is GSM version, and they sell it all over the world, you know, and it's pretty popular.
Yea I know theirs a gsm one, and at&t ppl can talk about at&t if they want.
Now go find a nice cozy, rock to crawl under n die

Isn't it kinda semantics? Their using laws to make at&t let their customers onto at&t full time network, I am sure sprint has 2 pay at&t for this, so they are basically selling contracts 2 at&t against at&ts will.

ok. so using your logic, sprint sold your contract to verizion long ago because everytime you roam you are most likely on their tower. so, are you a sprint or verizon customer? its just semantics.
no that's different (at least a lil) because I am usually NOT roaming.
If this is done then you will essentially be roaming all the time, on at&t, against their will.
Sent from my PG86100 using Xparent Blue Tapatalk
So what's the problem. You still pay the Sprint rate and you still have service. Who cares about this other than AT&T
well if ppl read the op I said MAY
I was really just wondering if this means sprints service their will go to ish...
Sent from my PG86100 using Xparent Blue Tapatalk
I live in northern WV. The towers in this area are owned by Ntelos. My phone shows 3g signal just like it would anywhere else. I get service just like I would anywhere else. These roaming contracts are nothing new, and you probably use other carrier's towers every day, but you don't even know it.
Roaming contracts r not new no.
But as far as I have read doing it for a whole city of any size is.
Sent from my PG86100 using Xparent Blue Tapatalk
What is your reading comprehension level?
Sprint is, and I quote from the article, "force AT&T to sell it roaming." Basically whats going is that Sprint left that area and is using AT&T's network to provide service for their customers there. They can do this by two regulations in place that put AT&T in a corner, forcing them to sell them roaming.
No where in the article does it talk about contracts.
Sadly today I got rid of my beloved Note. before my trial period expired I made the decision to cut ties with it. not because it was a bad phone but because of 2 issues. 1) the high price of AT&T phone service and the lack of unlimited data plan. I came from sprint 13 days ago and could not stand looking at my data usage and my first bill scare me. so I returned back to Sprint with my new S3. Love the service on AT&T. I think is the best so far. but not at a cost AT&T want it. so,,, good bye Note!!! :crying::crying:. one more thing,,,,, THANK YOU ALL AT THE NOTE FORUM FOR YOUR SUPPORT AT ROOTING,UNROOTING AND ROM FLASHING YOU ARE THE BEST AT THIS COMMUNITY XDA-DEVELOPERS ROCK!!!!!!
understandable...hate to see you leave but it is pricey. I, too, pay about 45 dollars more a month for att but I couldnt stand sprints service in my area. the trade off for me is worth it for now. plus, i love my note. it IS the main reason I came to att. be cool man. youll be missed...
Me too men. The Note was the reason I switch to AT&T. But I'll be watching for the Note2!!!!

I was told in NYC they are turning all the old payphones into wifi hotspots. I was wondering if there is any truth to that or if that already happened? If that is the case you would never need to have a data plan.
Certainly understand. I spent years w/Sprint (not always enjoyable) BUT switched to AT&T when I got the iPhone3g when it came out.
I'd love to try Sprint again...maybe they will get a Note.
HAVE FUN with the S3 (even though it is tiny).

If you have bad coverage for Verizon, I wonder if/why you believe it would be better with another service provider. Before jumping the gun why not get someone with another Note 2 on Verizon and or another Verizon smartphone to your house to see if it's not your particular phone. Also why not try to have other people with other networks over to your house to see what their bars are like? If may be that if Verizon has bad coverage in your area that it might not be that much better with other service providers. Lastly, if you wanted to keep your Note 2, which in really the best smartphone out there, and your unlimited why not just invest into a cell phone signal enhancer for your house, which would help with signal for your Note 2 and other other smartphone you get in the future?
If you like the Note 2 then you could just use a new carrier.

What are good carriers near you. I'm sure you could sell or trade that note 2 but you should go to T-Mobile and play with a nexus 4. All I hear is how bad the battery is for a top end device. If you can tough it out in a few months nicer phones will be dropping.

In Portland, where my parents live even though Sprint, tmo, and Verizon show 100% coverage you get no reception whatsoever in their area unless you have AT&T. If people in the OP's same area get better coverage witg another carrier then why not switch? Why own a phone and go with a carrier if you can't even use it at home?

there is a town(Rochester, IN) 1 hr west of me that has absolutely no Verizon coverage...you can not even buy a Verizon phone there lol. that being said just switch carriers and keep the note 2.
Op, you always start some sort of "should I do this" thread. This is America bro you are free to think and make your own decisions...take advantage of this freedom because one day you will no longer have that choice.
Yes you can sell your unlimited vzw account. There are a few for sale on ebay right now (you can sell for about $200). It just takes a call to vzw from you and then the buyer. It's as easy as that. *You do lose you phone number though.

Any folks near New York area using ATT service? Do you have coverage when you have some road trip to Bear Mountain or some other hiking place?
My biggest fear was losing data connection when you need the driving direction the most.
Verizon saved me once in Ithaca back then near those wineries, but I am not sure if AT&T can pull off the same there....
Thanks for any comments here.
I am not so concerned about the unlimited thing because my wife will still be using Verizon's unlimited line in our family plan. Not like I lose such option forever.
I'm from Albany, drive down to Long Island a lot, take the Amtrak train occasionally. LTE is hard to come by, but Hspa is pretty consistent. No complaints at all. I jumped from big red in 2011 and haven't looked back. AT&T has been great to me.

Yeah but basically you are paying twice for the phone. Verizon does not lower the price of their plans which includes a new phone subsidy, then on top of that they take the full price of the phone and charge you monthly for that until you pay it off. And lastly a $24 financing charge. Verizon is the ultimate scam corporation.
