Hello all,
I've just installed resurrection 2.5.1 Overall it works flawless. However I am not having problems with connecting to Kies. Whenever I want to connect to kies, I receive
"Unsupported Connection Mode Alert"-Reconnect the device in Samsung Kies Mode. Current connection mode is not supported by Kies. (It advises me to disable USB debugging)
When I disable USB debugging, I don't receive any error but it hangs on "Connecting" screen forever. I tried wiping sata/facctory reset, wiping cache, setting permission, changing ports, reinstalling drivers, changing ports. Nothing works:crying: Now I'm left without my contacts and all backed up data!
Am I missing something. Does anyone else have the same problem? PLEASE help
Kies only works with stock roms.

since RR is an AOKP based rom and Kies will only Support Smasung stock roms
Forget about Kies
You can only use Kies with Samsung software, Resurrection Remix just won't work with it.
Thanks a lot for the answers. But does this mean my backed up date is gone forever? Is there no way to restore my backedup data???:crying:
Go back to stock & try restoring your data.

always u should backup ur contacts by exporting it to ur sdcard as .vcf file that way u can always restore it back when needed
also u can have this 'Moborobo software' installed on ur pc so that u can backup ur data and apps to ur pc and re-install them after changing Roms
Go back to stock. Root your phone. Find an app on Google Play (search/try some out) that enables you to backup your contacts (you could just as easily back these up to Google & restore them whilst using any rom), sms & call logs. Reflash the rom you want to use, restore your data.
Flash Samsung firmware, restore data with Kies, make contacts backup to .vcf file, backup SMS with SMS Backup & Restore, then flash RR and restore again contacts by clicking vcf file in file explorer (eventually end action with contacts when prompted) and SMS by the same app.
Root is not needed for this.
Sorry for mistakes.
Thank you all. Now I am just thinking if it worths to install a custom rom after all. I feel like it's too much hassle, now I will have to go through all of these steps. It sucks to be a rookie but wish they mentioned that Kies didn't work with resurrection. I would not rely on that backup in this case.
Don't be disheartened
If you stick with custom roms you'll find you no longer need Kies. I never use it nowadays. There are plenty of ways around these things.
Lets keep on topic. No Whats best request. Cleaned
Cheers
No need to reflash everything.
just take another samsung phone.
connect it to samsung kies.
restore your data in it.
now install latest zapya in this phone and the other phone in which you have installed resurrection rom.
open zapya and connect it on both devices.
NOW SEND CONTACTS THROUGH ZAPYA FROM ONE PHONE TO THE OTHER (with resurrection rom).
Backup done.

Hi guys,
I'm fairly new to all of this, ive been reading up on flashing and the different roms, rooting android devices etc... i personally still using a symbian i know lol but its all modded and flashed so im not a complete noob...
My girlfriend got a sgs2 few months back, i flashed Lightening for her, she thought it was great with the speed and UI of it all..
Last night i showed what MIUI looks like and so i flashed it for, her spent a while setting it all up, she loved it with the masses of customisations etc...
Now i KNOW kies is an utter piece of crap ave had a numerous problems with it and her phone before but not like this...
Basically after flashing MIUI the phone would just not connect to Kies at all, the only thing it would do was come up as a removable drive of which i could not access half the time (told me the disk was empty) - the phone would only give me the option to mount/unmount the SD card NOT the usual "transfer data to pc" so i did all the usual troubleshooting tasks: reboot phone and pc, reinstall drivers, reinstall kies to no avail.
the ONLY reason i need to reconnect to kies is to get all her contacts msgs gallery etc back
I cleared all data and caches when flashing as i know you should when flashing a new rom.. ive only flashed lightening v5 and v6.1 but had no problems whatsoever and i was wondering if there is a known problem/solution to this?
apologies for the long post just wanted to give as much info as possible also she DOESNT have an sd card as of yet other wise i would have just used a 3rd part backup manager to backup/restore from SD card...
i did wonder (AFTER restoring back to Lightening rom backup) would it be possible to 'advanced restore' JUST the 'data' from the recovery menu whilst runnning the MIUI rom or would that just be a complete mess?
Thanks for any help you guys have would be greatly appreciated
**EDIT** - Sorry if this is in the wrong section i couldnt find anything related or a suitable thread after searching quite a bit
As far as im aware kies only recognise stock firmware. Also you could still use the third party apps and save it to the internal storage of the phone no need for external sd card, as you dont need to wipe internal storage when flashing new ROM.
Did you make a backup of the lightening ROM? If so restore it and backup contacts/messages using a third party app and re-flash then restore.
Ricey
Hey Ricey thanks for the reply mate,
Ahh right ok then, i assumed that it would work with all custom roms as it worked fine with Lightening but now i think i know its because lightening is a stock firmware thats been rooted and had some tweaks whereas MIUI is actually custom.
I wasnt aware that it doesnt wipe internal storage when doing a wipe data+cache, until last night when we noticed that all her photos and apks were still on the phone just not apps lol...
I'm assuming that if i use a 3rd party app to backup contacts and msgs etc they WONT be wiped along with all of the other data for the backup app.
1 last question: any recommendations on a backup program from the market? i keep reading about titanium backup but not sure if this performs the task i want it to.
Thanks
**EDIT** sorry forgot to answer your question - yes i did backup the lightening rom and restored it after spending nearly 2 hours trying to find a solution to this problem
Sms backup+ will backup sms to your gmail account, and restore between roms.
Sync contacts to your google account.

They will still get wiped its just gives you a backup to restore once reflashed. To backup contacts just use the stock contacts app, and export to SD. When re-flashing just import from SD using the same method. As for Messages use sms backup & restore off the market by ritesh sahu. The app is pretty self explanatory.
thanks for your input guys, in the end i just used the MyBackup app from the market and i got it all flashed and working correctly..
Now to get customising
Ok so i rooted my phone, installed Custom rom (checkrom Revo) and theme, flashed with custom kernel. And it seemed to improve the issues i was having, which i believe are network related not phone related. Carried of course denies that.
Anyway my brother asked me to do the same to his SGS2 as he is having the same issues. Now i have a couple of questions about this.
1) Firstly once i root the phone and install the custom Rom KIES does not recognise the phone. I do a factory reset because its going from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 firmware. Is it possible to update all the previous information like what KIES backs up (contacts/settings/gallery/ etc etc) without the use of KIES?? I dont want to do a restore with CWM as that takes it back to previous ROM/Theme. I just want to restore all the user based settings that KIES can backup and restore.
2) I made a backup with CWM just in case, because of the KIES not connecting i restored the backup, reflashed the stock carrier firmware and stock kernel. It now connects to KIES but it has the "this device is not supported for firmware update". Ive looked in the forums and cant seem to find a solution, usb debugging is off, ROM and kernel are both stock. I am in Australia and with Telstra and i dont think they have even released 2.3.5 yet so my main concern is finding a solution for Question 1, if i can then updating via KIES is not overly important.
Thanks in advance for your help.
1. Yes you can backup and restore those things without KIES. I recommend titanium backup which can backup all the apps and most settings.
With the stock contacts app you can backup your contacts on your sdcard.
The pictures you have made are stored on your sdcard by default, so you don't have to back them up (Tough I would recommend it too).
2. Have you checked the drivers? Uninstall and reinstall them. Try switching USB debugging on and off.
I hope that helps. I don't like KIES and I believe you can understand why. I do not use it anymore, since I flash custom ROMs and there are several other apps to backup and restore like titanium. You should also search the market for other backup apps, but titanium seems the best for me.

Thanks for that, i just wanted to make sure, my phone im not worried about, but i would prefer not to lose all the stuff my brother has put on his.
And yes i can understand why, i hated the program from the first time i installed it. Its horrible to use and it cant decide whether it wants to recognise a phone or not.
Brother, I have backup from Kies, Now kies is not recognizing my note2, and I have no titanium backup, So how will I be able to restore the backup I currently have in my PC from Kies to my mobile without Kies...

I have had Cyanogenmod 7.1 stable installed on my s2 since December, first time I have had a real issue with it. This morning when I turned the phone on as soon as it gets past cyanogenmod boot logo I get a number of force closes the first is always Calendar storage and then Acore. This is followed by media, superuser, droidstats, email, whatapp, clock, google play, bluetooth share and titanium backup these are in a random order but always the same apps. Once I force close them the phone goes back to the boot logo then the force closes start again,in an endless cycle the phone is pretty much useless. I have access to download mode and clockworkmod but I would just like a way to backup my contacts and sms messages before I do a factory reset, or possibly a fix for the issue?
Any help appreciated =)
Plenty of apps on Google Play that enable you to backup/restore your contacts/SMS/call logs. I'd definitely do a factory reset.
I have apps installed for backup purposes but the FC's messages don't allow me to access them =/
Hmmmm. OK. That's a problem then.
I guess you could try flashing CM7 over the top of your current setup & hope that fixes things but it probably won't. So you could do a Nandroid backup in CWRecovery then do a factory reset or do a completely clean/fresh install, and from there you could use something like AppExtractor to restore your contacts/SMS/call logs from your Nandroid.
I attempted to recover a old backup but a got an error of md5 mismatch in clockworkmod. I have created a backup of the current system but the same error pops up if I attempt to recover, I did this to check if the backup wasn't faulty. Will I still be able to use the appextractor with this error?
If I can ill attempt a clean install of 7.2 that just got released and recover my contacts in the way you suggested =)
Good question. I don't know. Couple of times I used AppExtractor when I was running GB I didn't have any of the problems you're experiencing so I guess you're only going to know when you try it.

happens to me also
but still no luck with the solutions available ..
My SII isn't rooted and doesn't have USB debugging. I am able to connect the phone to USB to access files, and was able to back up everything with Kies, but I don't know how to access the text messages. My new phone is an S3 running Cyanogenmod.
I'd prefer to be able to access texts via PC rather than mess with restoring them to my new phone, but anything that allows me to actually access them would be useful.
sorry for your phone,
there are some programs which allow you to control your devise from computer via wifi and there is no root requirement but at least you have to be able to read the security code which appears on your phone which allows your computer to control it via wifi, these programs include kies, and AirDroid.
furthermore connecting through usb cable will allow you to restore your files but i am not sure about restoring the sms. moreover the best way to prevent these difficulties for the next time is using programs which easily sync the data including your sms in to cloud, such as jottacloud.

This is the S2 forum, Not S3.
Titanium Backup is able to backup SMS message without root access, atleast on my HTC One X anyway. If your able to do this you could then restore them on your SGS3.
It really depends on whether your screen is 100% broken, or if you have some visibility.
I have a stock I9300, un-rooted and up until 3 weeks ago had been happily using ADB and Samsung Kies to backup my phone.
Then the wonderful thing called Kies 3 happened - and since then I've not managed to get a single backup out of it.
It seems to backup some things but my applications it fails on yet won't tell me WHICH application is causing the issue (or if it's just Kies being Kies).
I'd like to be able to take backups of everything on my phone - something like Kies + ADB together, I know that with my phone being un-rooted, that application settings/data will not get backed up - I'm not sure what else wouldn't. But I'd rather not root my device.
What I'm asking for are recommendations for a SINGLE backup solution that would allow me to backup my phone to my PC, so that that can be included in my PC backups.
It's probably asking a lot just to find a single solution for this, I'd be happy with 2 solutions to achieve my aim as long as both of them worked together and backed up to the PC.
I'm happy enough to keep using ADB, except ADB doesn't backup SMS/MMS and ADB's Restore functionality is not at all granular - it's more like a 'my phone is boned, restore the entire thing' rather than restoring part of it.
If you recommend that I root my phone in order to get the single solution backup then I'd be happy to consider it. (If I were to root my phone, would restoring it or upgrading firmware be an issue from that point on - assuming I didn't want to use anything but stock firmware?)
Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated, I'm going to take a look at Helium and see what that can do for me, although I'd prefer a PC-based backup solution.
Unrooted try Helium .

I've just tried Helium, it didn't work well - the desktop client/web interface never appeared in my IE10 or Firefox 25, so couldn't actually backup to PC. Another concern with it was it didn't explicitly say it backed up MMS, only SMS.
Does it do both?
