Hey I brought the Samsung Galaxy S3 on Three and rooted and flashed it with the latest unbranded software, it removed the three startup logo and three recommended apps in the play store
However, the stock bookmarks such as BBC news and BBC football are still there, how do I remove these?
Thanks in advance

To remove bookmarks already preloaded in your galaxy s3, all you have to do hold on the bookmark in the browser, and a menu with various options prompts you if you want to delete, modify ,etc. ....
I want to know this aswrll. They wont delete like custom favoritos. Its very annoying.

This doesn't work, it doesn't allow you to delete them

Omg, I'm going NUTS trying to get these things things off of here! I also made a second folder named after my Gmail on accident, and that won't delete either! I've tried everything!
No ideas?

I found a solution to the locked bookmarks.
Requirements:
- Root access
- Root file explorer
- SQLite editor app
Steps
1) Open the SQLite database located at:
/data/data/com.android.browser/databases/browser2.db
2) Open the 'opbookmarks' table
3) Delete all the rows
4) Delete the bookmarks from the browser, like you would delete any other bookmark
It's as simple as that. Those rows correspond to the bookmarks in the 'bookmarks' table and (I guess) just put a lock on them.

Worked! thanks a lot

Worked great. Easy. It was definitely worth the $2.99 for SQLite to clean-up my bookmarks page and the app looks like it'll be handy to have, in any case.
Thanks, radeon_x
=VODA galaxy S3 rooted=
Added app - bookmark sort and backup https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.happydroid.bookmarks&hl=en
backed up my bookmarks
--this steps may not be necessary- -
[*]task manager - (long press middle button)
[*]task manager - active aplications - end internet app her (you may have to scroll top bit left or right)
[*]task manager - page RAM - clear memory
..
titanium backup - i got the paid version not sure if wipe data is on free one
find internet
wipe app data
bookmark sort and backup app
[*](--tried a restore - it didn't work---launched the internet--logged out of google)
bookmark sort and backup app - restore bookmarks worked
then delete the bad bookmarks (copies of these have been made by the restore of you bookmarks)
There are probably too many steps here but it worked for me doing this
Anyone can contribute a shorter version
I think Titanium backup wipe data is the main bit, but backup you bookmarks first

You will probably want to do a "Clear data" as well (under Settings / Application manager / All / Internet). Until I did this my browser crashed every time I tried to open the bookmarks. Afterwards it worked perfectly.
deleting stock bookmarks..worked for me
Hey guys. I joined this forum just to say that I found a way to delete stock bookmarks on the S3. When I updated to jellybean, I just cleared the cashe in the applications manager in settings for internet explorer, and it got rid of all the stock bookmarks for me. Only downside is, that it reset all of my settings. Easy to change back though. Now I just have the bookmarks that I want and all of the stock ones are gone.

Thank you! Wow... it worked! This way is very simple. After clearing cache, some bookmoarks had returned but we could delete them all after beeing opened the stock internet browser.
Any idea how I can delete the bookmarks added by Samsung in the Chrome app? They, too, can't be deleted.
Found this solution on the Android Central forums and it worked for me (root not required):
"I did some searching and found a thread on xda about it. The guy said disable "com.android.providers.partnerbookmarks" in the app settings, but he said you can only do it if you're rooted. I'm bone stock, no root and it worked on mine. I even rebooted to see if it re-enabled it and the VZW bookmarks tab is still gone.
And maybe my mind's playing tricks on me but it seems to make Chrome run faster."

I was looking for a way to do this also on my T-Mobile S4, and used a similar way to delete all the locked bookmarks. But instead of clearing the cache, I cleared all data for the stock internet app on Application Manager. This wiped all of them and I was able to start from scratch. Thanks
Simplest solution
I went to applications manager, in the "all" tab, found "com.android.providers.partnerbookmarks" and disabled it. Worked. no root necessary
PS: I tried the solution provided by radeon_x. The opbookmarks entry in the browser.db was empty. International gt-i9300 (rooted, running stock 4.1.2).

For whatever reason every browser I try reloads tabs when I leave the browser. It's REALLY annoying - I'm stuck on edge most of the time, and finding out that my tabs suddenly reload just because I switched to twitter for a second.
I tried to pretty much disable the LMK, and it still did this...
I tried Chrome, Browser Plus, stock ICS browser, Dolphin and Opera (which does this slightly less often) Last time I had this problem was on my old tablet with only 256 MB of RAM. (Which still did this less often than the Note on ICS)
Every time this happened, I had at least 120 MB of ram free. Seriously, the note has a full gigabyte of ram, and yet this happens.
This doesn't happen to me on GB.
Is there anything I can do to make browsing normal again?
Like, exclude a browser from getting killed, or something?
I'm using a Galaxy Note..
Help please?
I tried all that I could, but was still unable to solve this problem.
I now had to downgrade to Gingerbread because of this issue, it is REALLY annoying.
I just want to multi task on my device...
I actually had tabs reload while I was still in the browser! Is there ANYTHING that can be done?
Still have this issue. Tried every damn browser I could, every ICS ROM I could find, but it still does this. Please help.
Maybe try Opera Mini (not opera mobile)?

Opera Mini does not really fit my needs...
And reloading tabs will still be slower than keeping them in memory, even with Opera.
Thanks for replying, though.
I wish someone who could help would reply to this thread. I'm tired of having to reload tabs almost every time too.

Hi all,
just adding my 2cents, I've been facing similar issue , as a lot of us, tried almost all available browsers on the google play
I'm finally using OverSkreen (floating browser) which seems able to stay on memory by registering itself in the notification area ...
Okay, it's a paid apps
Just want to let you know that I'm not advertising it, I do not know the dev and am not involved in anyway in the development
Just sharing my findings
I'm still digging that issue and landed here while searching the web ....
Hope this helps some
thanks for that, it's nice!
though i'd really love to use chrome, because of syncing and all.
Some solution here???
Try this:
1. Download the Root Explorer apk file from the link and install itit on the device.
2. Open Root Explorer and provide the root permissions.
Now tap on “Mount R/W” which can be seen on top of the screen.
Scroll down and open the “data”*directory.
Once in the /data directory, press menu key and select “New File”.
Enter the name of the file as local.prop.Now long press on local.prop and select the “Open With” option.
Now select text editor.
The app’s process name should be known to the user. For e.g. if the user wants to lock the Contacts app in memory, type “sys.keep_app_1=com.android.contacts”. “com.android.contacts” is the process of the Contacts app.
Similarly other apps can be locked in the memory in the following manner. Now press menu key and select Save and exit.
Now system will show a message saying ‘Old local.prop backed up as local.prop.bak’. And you are done.. Reboot and enjoy.
Get the app process name with apk info for exampel.

edit:
or use JKays framework to register apps as service! read the faq for whitelistening apps!! its great. works for me with opera. it is not reloading the pages anymore and hopefully dont cancel the downloads!

Hi, thanks for sharing your findings... Tried myself to use Xposed and app settings to make the browser stay in memory
Works really great
Only drawback is that it significantly slows down the phone so stopped that technic
Will try yours, thanks again

the only way to remove system apps is you have to be rooted, unless, like you said that the g nexus you can. If you decide to root your phone you can use titanium backup app from the market to delete google apps and other stock apps that come with the phone. Also You can use any file manager like Es or astro and manually go to system/app and delete what you want. Hope this helps
Just be sure you are cautious about what you choose to delete as for myself recently i used Titanium Backup Pro to delete several system apps and i deleted the ability to go into my "Accounts & Sync" settings panel anytime i pressed accounts it would reboot my phone so i was never able to change sync options or add accounts! Until i flashed 2.3.5
Hi
I seem to have lost the email client on my (wifes) S3!
It hasn't been used for awhile. so no idea when or where it has gone.
(I did, when new, reinstall stock OS to debrand phone)...
anyway, I don't like k9 (too ugly and poor gui),
could someone please point me in the direction of a replacement email app please...
preferably stock (as it'll have to do for now).
Thank you
Only 3 possibilities that it can disappear:
1. It is hidden inside touchwiz. You can click Show hidden Apps in app drawer.
2. Disabled using Settings --> Apps --> All --> Email --> Disable. You may have to enable it from there.
3. Deleted purposely from system/app using root explorer which may not be the case here
Thanks was disabled...
(curiously: how would that be possible, that is got disabled, without manually doing it ourselves?)

Hi all,
What I want to do: remove all Timescape elements from stock Sony ROM safely (avoiding force closes, not random deletion)
Why: I noticed that a Sony executive announced a week or two ago that their 2013 phones will not have Timescape running through the phone because it did result in performance lag. Instead they will use one app for the same purpose. I want to test removing the lag in my phone by removing anything Timescape.
News on Timescape: http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/01/14/rip-timescape-long-live-socialife/
You need a rooted device and an explorer with root access like ES Explorer in order to delete the apk files in the System/App directory. You can find more information at the bottom of the first post in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546253&highlight=bloatware.
I would recommend not to delete them actually just in case you want something back. In my case I have only change the file extension so the app won't start. For example gmail.apk has been renamed to gmail.apk1
A few months ago I clicked 'allow Facebook to sync with contacts' and similar options, I thought some features were useful. I tried disabling them all today and it has already made a helpful boost in performance. The true test will be a few days performance.
What I did was root my phone. Then I used an app manager that would allow me to disable system apps. That way I could easily restore any app that are really required. Anything with time scape or Facebook got disabled. I also disabled all system apps that were available from the app store.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
No need to root. Just goto the app manager and disable all timescape items and anything else not needed.
I rooted and used Titanium Backup where I uninstalled all "Timescape"-related (appr. 5-6 entries...)
Root needed to delete

You still need root to delete system apps. Once you have disabled them and decided that causes no issues, deleting them will free up a little space.
A few days ago I disabled as much Timescape as I could and so far it really does remove a lot of lag. The phone is already usable...
It can be nice seeing friend's Facebooks pictures etc. in your phonebook but the lag is not worth it. :victory:
So I have to switch phones I have smart switch to back up all other data but noticed it does not back up my apps and their preferences etc. So I am stuck having to rebuild my podcast library and re-enter notifications for all my medications... and yes... rebuild my clan village .
So without Root anyone have any suggestions on the best app to do this?
Also not extremely important but it'd be nice if it transfered over the app icon layout I had on the home screens
Thanks!
You can normally backup your user data with adb. Check the XDA forums to find tutorials.
You can also use Helium which works without root AFAIR.
