No that isn't true. Please reread the thread. All you have to do is to download the zip file and place it on an external sdcard, then reboot the phone, during boot, hold Vol + and Vol-, then choose recovery. The system will boot in recovery mode, it will take a little while to boot. Once booted, you will probably see some kind of Android image. At this point, press Vol + and Vol- and choose the update option. Locate the file on your external sdcard and wait. The whole process shouldn't take more than 20 min, but I haven't done it on a RAZR before. Good luck!
Finally just keep in mind that this is a leaked version, so we aren't sure if this is the final version, technically out could take you of the upgrade path, until someone verifies this is final.
Good luck!

This is not necessarily going to work. I have noticed that side-loading ICS updates from stock GB like that can lead to errors. That is why we he have this 100% working rooting way.
On the XT912 the way I get people on ICS in my utility is flashing GB 2.3.6 fastboot files, then ICS recovery which I pulled with DD after flashing it myself. This why when they side-load it they will never error, and requires no rooting.

I side loaded my ICS upgrade (leak) without issue. I think our only matters when your rooted and forgot about whatever changes you made to your system. If the OP is new to this stuff, I doubt they has made any system changes and could always just try the method I posted above. If the upgrade doesn't go through out would just fail at the verification phase and they world still be able to go back normally onto gingerbread and would still have the option to wait for the official OTA.

So if this would take me off the official update path, would there be a way to get back after? If of course the leaked version is not the final... if there is a way then I will do it tomorrow for sure! Still want the official OTA when it comes.

So I have the file as you say and ready to go, but is there a way to get back on the official OTA release? My guess would be to side loan the right GB version...

My opinion? Just wait until it's confirmed... It probably will be confirmed in the next week. If not before the end of today, probably by the end of next week.

Was the leak not offered to specific ppl by Motorola & Carries? And if so wouldn't they allow the leaked version to be update if there were to be a change for the final? This is a question not stating anything.

[Q] Please help - Rooted and then possibly bricked?

Hello all,
I'll be upfront with all of you - it has been a long day for me! First, I shattered my old phone's glass when dropping it to the ground. I then went to Verizon and purchased a Thunderbolt.
At least I was excited to have a new phone! I successfully rooted the phone and then tried to install the BAMF 2.1 ROM using ROM Manager. The upgrade seemed to go properly, but after rebooting, I am now stuck at the Thunderbolt boot screen.
I pulled the battery a whole bunch of times and no luck. I can't seem to find a way to get into a recovery console if possible from here. It's late and any help would be deeply appreciated.
I'll be glad to provide any more details for anyone who is willing to help...
Thanks very much in advance!
--Isaac
How long is it "stuck" before you are pulling the battery? That first boot might take a few minutes.

I've waited over 5 minutes several times. Right now, I've been waiting at that screen for over 15 minutes...

So after the battery pull then reinserting battery have you tried to get into h_boot by holding the volume down while holding the power down at the same time until you get into h_boot then toggle into recovery?

Okay - Now I've read from the forum that I can get into the bootloader by holding down the power and +/- volume keys. That worked!
Would my best bet be to try and update again?

You need to check the md5 of the rom you downloaded. If it doesn't match the download it and check md5 again. Might not hurt to delete the radio and re download too?

Yes - coming from stock rooted froyo. I am aware of the 2 and 2.5 version of the radios, but don't know yet how to install or incorporate them. I will check around right now to figure out how to do that.
Your not flashing the rom as an update right? Also do not flash through rom manager. Use cwr by getting into h_boot recovery the way you just learned by holding the power and volume buttons down.

Flash the radio through cwr. When finished flashing pull the battery and go into cwr again to flash the rom. afterwards re-name or delete the radio file set your up and running

Check md5 of the radio of you can. The radio needs to be in the (root) folder on your sd card our or will not flash properly. The rom should be located in the (download) folder of your sd card.

Hit the Nexus forums, and you may just want to keep your Razr. I was planning on returning my Razr for the Nexus, but I'm not swayed by initial first impressions.
And keep in mind that if you pick up the Verizon model it's a thick beast!

Verizon extended it's return policy till Jan 15th(as of today). So I am basically renting the device and returning it and paying $35 to "restock" it.
their own damn fault really. It was them that pushed it back... and back.. and wait for it....

Getting back to topic, anyone play with this. Is the nandroid backup option available?
Yes, and it also works like a charm. However, I have not yet tried to actually RESTORE a backup.
I saw the message
"No /sdcard/.android_secure found. Skipping backup of applications on external storage."
does anyone has seen this message while doing the backup in CWM recovery mode?
what it means?
It means you don't have any apps installed to the SD
i checked my razr file system...
i saw /sdcard and /sdcard-ext and i have some apps installed in media.
I've seen that on all of my phones. Its normal.

SD card is internal media storage - SD card-ext is the removable one you control by pc or some old apps install to it. I keep my backups on it, eg.

This is a guide that has all the files you need to DL.
Basically it will guide you through downloading Odin (open disc in a nutshell) and the two files you need to flash the phone back to stock 2.1 eclair. It will tell you how to put phone in DL mode. Never disconnect a phone from PC while Odin is running.
After that, it will guide you through the rooting the phone and getting a custom recovery(clockwork mod).
CWM recovery is what is needed to install a custom rom.

ok im confused on the rooting part. I cant seem to put it into recovery... the vibrant logo just keeps on restarting till i let go and the phone just starts up.
Are you on GB boot loader? Make sure your using correct button combo to get to recovery. Think its down and power at same time. Kind of a pain in the butt to do until you get the hang of it. Soon as you see Samsung let go and it should give yellow text scrolling, then recovery menu.
°thats not exactly rooting. The HB ROM has root though, so when all is finished you will be rooted.
Also make sure when HB is installed, when you first boot it let it sit and don't touch it for 10 min or so
If you get stuck pm me

And don't forget to use OTA rootkeeper if you dont want to loose root

dont worry got it you need root explorer im a noob and i thought you could do it from your computer.
Can anyone confirm this working? Are there any bugs found so far?
Only bugs I've found are with the initial setup. After you first boot into JB you need to do another reboot to finish updating app databases, and also you need to clear backup assistant's data.
Before installing just clear cache guys , this is CDMA ONLY ....

Adding items to the home screen seems quite buggy. Every icon wants to jump into a folded. After you drop it into a folder you can move it out onto the desktop.

Manually install without root..
1. Download an place in external storage
2. Have your phone charged at least 70% (just in case)
3.Boot into stock recovery (turning off the phone and turning back on pressing at the same time volumes up and down , scroll to recovery and choose it pressing volume (up) ..
4.From there you should get the android abortion , press volumes up and down once more an it should look familiar from there wipe cache ( don't worry , your stuff won't erase) and install update from SD card ** it should take about 8 min an you are ready to go ** JELLY BEAN VERSION (4.1.2 ). enjoy.
