Kernel: “A kernel is a critical component of every Operating System. It can be seen as a sort of bridge between the applications and the actual hardware of a device..”
Libraries: Libraries are chunks of code specially developed to activate key functions of the device (e.g. the camera or loudspeakers). Without certain libraries in your ROM, you risk the chance of your ROM not booting or working.
Bootloader: “A bootloader in general is the first bytes of code that a machine executes that will tell the bootsequence and will load the operating system into the RAM.”
Recovery: A recovery is an ‘application’ that allows you to flash kernels, roms, mods and tweaks. It is also a method of installing and updating your ROM, partioning your SD card and many other OS-related things.
Radio: The radio is the “the lowest part of software layer” that “handles the GPS antenna, GSM antenna and fires up the CPU: everything the [bootloader] needs to run the OS”.

Attention Korean note users: Due to the fact that you do not have an official korean note section, I've added threads related to your devices, to the "tools" section of this thread. My intent, is to give your threads and related information a permanent home here, even though your devices differ from our U.S. versions of the note. I believe that I've posted all current threads already, but please PM me if you have additions that need to be made here. We are happy to have you in our section, and will provide you all of the help we can.
Edit: Message for Korean note users from Awesomefireduck. e160 S/L/K 32GB(!) users. Your help is requested in the debrick thread, to assist other users with bricked devices. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Awesomefireduck.

Searching
When you have a question you don't know the answer to, don't post a new thread when you could post a question in a relevant open thread, and don't post a question when a few minutes reading and searching will not only give you an answer, but a feeling of accomplishment that you were able to find it yourself, and the confidence to remember and repeat the answer with the link to the thread or post with that answer when you see someone else post that question.
Consider the question you are going to post, pick out the keywords and type them into the search box. Try a few different searches with slightly different words.

If you aren't sure what a term or acronym means, check this Excellent term definition Glossary by benjamingwynn.
Acronyms
Good to know Definitions:
Glossary
ADB → Android Debug Bridge (adb) is a versatile command line tool that lets you communicate with an emulator instance or connected Android-powered device..
Android →Unveiled on 5 November 2007, Android is a mobile operating system running on the Linux kernel developed by Google.
AOSP → Android Open Source Project
Apps2SD → Move applications from the internal NAND memory on the device to a removable SD Card.
BLN → BackLight Notification
Bloatware → Software bloat is a process whereby successive versions of apps include an increasing proportion of unnecessary features that are not used by end users, or generally use more system resources than necessary, while offering little or no benefit to its users. Like all the crap that comes from At&t
Brick → When used in reference to consumer electronics, "brick" describes a device that cannot function in any capacity (such as a device with damaged firmware). This usage derives from the fact that some electronic devices (and their detachable power supplies) are vaguely brick-shaped, and so those which do not function are useful only as actual bricks. The term can also be used as a verb. For example, "I bricked my phone when I tried to modify its firmware."[
Hard Brick → When your phone does not turn on at all. When you can’t get in to CWR/CWM Or Stock recovery. You are basically screwed.
Soft Brick → When your phone bootloops. When you can get into CWR/CWM. When You can use jigtag to get into download mode.
Busybox → BusyBox provides several stripped-down Unix tools in a single executable. It runs in a variety of POSIX environments such as Linux, Android, FreeBSD and others, such as proprietary kernels, although many of the tools it provides are designed to work with interfaces provided by the Linux kernel. It was specifically created for embedded operating systems with very limited resources. Platforms counterparts, but they are pretty close and useful nonetheless.
CWR OR CWM ClockworkMod Recovery →A custom recovery for Android phones and tablets that allows you to perform several advanced recovery, restoration, installation and maintenance operations on your Android device that aren’t possible with the stock recovery.
DEODEX → Apk files have respective odexes that devs use to supposedly save space. Deodexing means you convert it back to a .dex file and put it back inside the apk. This allows you to easily replace file (not having to worry about odexes), but the main point was to deodex services.jar so that you can change all text to different colors (such as the clock color to white) and to deodex services.jar, you need to deodex everything.
Flashing → The process of applying a firmware image (or ROM) to a device. It generally entails a very specific order of steps. Failing to complete any one of these steps properly may result in bricking the device.
Firmware → is a term often used to denote the fixed, usually rather small, programs and/or data structures that internally control various electronic devices. Programs stored in the ROM, EPROM, or flash memory that usually control various internal electronic devices (Hard Drives, Keyboards, Displays, etc). Firmware is typically 'fixed' software that is not updated in consumer devices, however it is often updated (or 'flashed') by advanced users to fix bugs or add features to the device. Flashing firmware designed for one device onto a different device, or not following a specific procedure while flashing will often render the device unusable.
Kernel → is the main component of most computer operating systems; it is a bridge between applications and the actual data processing done at the hardware level. The kernel's responsibilities include managing the system's resources (the communication between hardware and software components
Radio → The cellular radio on the device which needs control software called firmware to control it.
ROM → Read Only Memory. In the context of an Android device, ROM is the internal flash memory where the core operating system resides. It can also refer to a specific version firmware that can be applied to a device through a process usually referred to as flashing. An improperly flashed ROM can often brick the device, rendering it unusable.
Superuser→ A program, which gives unlimited access privileges to perform any or all operations on the operating system.
ODIN → Odin is the Samsung software used to update Samsung phones. It does not work with any other devices other than official Samsung phones.
OTA or FOTA → (F)OTA stands for (Firmware) Over The Air and is the process by which required updates and enhancements to your phone's basic operating system can be sent to you through the cellular network. The Galaxy S II software update will be sent via FOTA and is available through Samsung Kies mini.0
ODEX → In Android file system, applications come in packages with the extension .apk. These application packages, or APKs contain certain .odex files whose supposed function is to save space. These ‘odex’ files are actually collections of parts of an application that are optimized before booting. Doing so speeds up the boot process, as it preloads part of an application. On the other hand, it also makes hacking those applications difficult because a part of the coding has already been extracted to another location before execution.
SDK → Software Development Kit.
Logcat → A debugging tool built into Android devices that displays system logs as they occur. See Logcat.
NANDroid → A set of tools that will enable anyone who has root on their Android device to make FULL system backups, in case something goes wrong or you want to try out that new experimental ROM/theme. NANDroid will backup (and restore) /system, /data, /cache, and /boot partitions.
Recovery Mode → A special environment that you can boot into for troubleshooting and upgrading purposes.
Kang → The process of creating a code based of someone else's code or reapplying code that someone else created into your own code (e.g. git cherry-pick)
Rooting → is a process that allows users of mobile phones and other devices running the Android operating system to attain privileged control (known as "root access") within Android's Linux subsystem with the goal of overcoming limitations that carriers and manufacturers put on some devices.
Giving Thanks
Giving thanks is important. It lets people know that their work or answer is appreciated. It is a faster method of feedback than posting a reply like "Thanks for your answer!" You must have one post to give thanks, so here is a good place you can do that without running afoul of the mods for posting no content posts.
The "Say Hi" thread.
You get 8 thanks per day, and they renew after 24 hours or so. Each thanks is independent of the others, so if you give someone a thanks at 3, and then another at 4, those will renew at 3 and 4 the next day. If you run out of thanks, then bookmark that page or open it in a new tab and give thanks later when you have one available.
If you use them all every day you are doing it correctly.
Some member titles you will see around the threads.
There are Junior Members, Members, Senior Members first. These make up the vast majority of XDAs userbase.
Recognised Contributors are nominated by other users and/or Mods/Developers. They are recognised for their contributions which are not specifically Development, such as detailed guides, one-click utilities and other tools/mods.
Recognised Themers are also nominated by users/Mods/Developers, for their work themeing custom ROMs and providing standalone themes for flashing.
Recognised Developers are nominated and approved by the Developer Committee, for their work in Development whether it be ROMs, Root methods, bootloader unlocks etc.
Elite Recognised Developers are again assessed by the Developer Committee, and are deemed to have gone above-and-beyond in providing knowledge/hacks/tools/apps/ROMs for the XDA community.
Forum Moderators are appointed by the Moderator Committee, after submitting an application (see the 'sticky' at the top of this forum - currently applications are not open). They are the first-line of keeping the forums tidy, friendly and orderly.
Senior Moderators are the next step up the ladder, providing site-wide support for Forum Mods and looking after the nitty-gritty issues, as well as areas of XDA not policed by FSMs, such as the Marketplace.
Administrators are next. There are several Admins - each look after a specific part of XDA such as the Portal, the Members and the User Experience of XDA as a whole.
At the top is Mike Channon, who is overall Forum Administrator.
Other titles you may come across:
Moderator Committee - sits on the Mod Committee
Developer Committee - as above, but for Developer Committee
XDA Newswriter - publishes articles for the Portal (front page)
Retired xxxx - have since officially 'left' their XDA position
Posting
Posting is something you may do a lot of here, but it is always important to remember to make your posts good ones. Don't post just to drive up your count, there is no special reward for the poster with the highest total and you won't catch the long timers here anyways.
You will find that there are some restrictions on your posting ability when you first start here. For starters, for your first 5 posts, there is a prompt and a time limit in between posts. While this may seem burdensome, it does an excellent job of keeping spammers from posting garbage throughout every thread. There is a 2 minute limit between posting and editing your posts. This stops at 30 posts when you go from Junior Member to Member.
Rate the ROM
"Rate the dev's thread with 5 stars using the rate drop-down button at the top of every page of the thread." If your found the ROM or MOD/TWEAK useful, then be truthful rate it there Rate drop down menu that have the star rating, along with the thanks you give the individuals that provided you with help or the DD (daily Driver ROM) you are using, or if you just test a ROM slap the rating.
Donations
Making a donation is neither expected or required, but always gratefully received and appreciated.
There are "Donate to me" icons above people's avatar,or in their signatures.
You can also donate to XDA by clicking HERE.
When you donate 10 EUROS to XDA,you get rewarded with a STAR
,which is displayed a little below your avatar. If you buy 10 STARS ,you will be rewarded with a

Thanks guys. I'm always around, lurking in the shadows, trying to stay out of the... non-productive..conversations that permeate some of the threads. Now that Joe handed off the reigns to this thread so that I have something to do during work hours, if you have any suggestions, additions you think might be useful, feel free to yell them out.
Aww... thanks guys, you were my last 2 thanks to make it to 1000. lol I now join that elite list of non "recognized" people to make that milestone. Of course, BubbaJoe is in his very own category as he approaches 3000.

I have had a telus i717 for almost 2yrs now. I'm in Canada.
My phone has been getting laggier and I tried wiping it and restoring it a few times.
I keep almost no data on the internal storage. says 10.1 of 10.7GB free.
I want to speed up my phone and was wondering a couple things:
-Can I use a really fast sd card as RAM or Cache? That should speed things up as I only have 750Mb of RAM.
-Whats the simplist way to overclock? Do I have to Root?
I am pretty handy with electronics and some plc programming, etc. But I have never rooteed a phone and I worry I will need some files that I wont be able to find etc.
I would like to hear from anyone who has a telus note and installed a custom rom and the steps they took.
Can anyone point me to a resource for rooting/overclocking this phone and the files I need?
I know I dont ask much do I.
Thanks all!

Ok
Thanks, I think...
The whole stupid questions thing seems kinda insulting but perhaps it is deserved.
I just bought a 90mb/s sd card and they kept shorting out in my gnote, have a slow one now and all is good? weird.
Anyways thanks.
cant find valid drivers that allow sgh-i717 to work in usb debugging mode.
re: "USB Driver for ATT I717 Galaxy Note -- Thanks to bigjoe2675"
all the links to the usb drivers actually link to gapps??? (gapps-jb4.1-20121011-minimal_edited_20131023.zip)
im having trouble getting my samsung note to hook up with adb. im trying to port the mmssms.db from my old sgh-i897 i was able to extract with adb... but i cant for the life of me get anything other than an unknown device "android" to appear in device manager when i put the sgh-i717 in debugging mode.
google has led me on a goose-chase for the better part of a day, dozens of different xda threads, hundreds of pages of replies not really specific to what im looking for. dead links. everywhere.

tl;dr; i was able to root the sgh-i717, setup twrp 2.6.3.0, and im running carbon-jb-nightly rom... but now im stuck trying to port over my old sms history.

I would not use twrp 2.6.3.0 as it is known to cause problems with the i717. I would stick to twrp 2.6.1.0.

1. Post only positive suggestions, amendments or point out mistakes
2. Don't post general questions into this thread create new threads in the relevant forum
3. Don't post Thank You, use the THANKS button
4. Be patient, remember I have a life as well and can only change things after you've told me
Before you start modifying your device it is recommended that you enable Usb debbuging :
Settings->Applications->Development->USB debugging = TICK
It's also worth installing adb on your pc in order to provide developers and other users proper debugging/logcat information regarding any issues that you'll later encounter, as this can be a big help when attempting to fix/solve any subsequent problems you experience.
If development on any of the ROMs below or any other entry has been ceased or is no longer valid then I would appreciate if someone (preferably the thread owner (OP)) could contact me and inform me so that I can label it as #CLOSED#. It may also be a good idea for the thread owner to contact the Moderator smokestack76 (or any Moderator) and request that the thread is closed.
Once a ROM thread has had no modifications for a couple of months of months, it will deemed to be #OLD# and I'll mark it as so, in an attempt not to clutter the ROM list, if the thread is still active then please PM me or post within this thread and I'll change it's status, please don't take offense if this is your ROM but, some form of housekeeping must be performed so that the INDEX remains a useful easy to use resource for the community.

There you go
There is a script with claims to odex a deodexed rom via a flash able script here for those who are interested
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2095922
[Script] Amestris Odexer V3.0 [4.1.2] Optimize your phone!
Is it possible for ROM-Creators who are using Aroma (like NeatRom by sale, where I originally liked to post but have not enough posts yet) to include this script into Aroma installer?
Reason for the question is the constant demand of different modifications for guys like sale, so instead to have time further optimizing their roms, providing custom versions of one rom for special demands could be avoided with a possibility like this.
Do not want to start a discussion about pro&cons of odex/deodex and zipalign as theres plenty to read on that topic online.
So let devs concentrate on optimizing their roms and users decide which color they think they need?
Please forgive me if I got something wrong, overlooked a post somewhere or just used the wrong keywords to search on that special topic
Would be happy with a short, technical answer if it is possible or not and why.

I don't think any dev would be willing to incorporate this due to the number of problems it would cause.
If you read the relevant thread you can see what a hit and miss affair doing this is.

Yeah, I tried the script myself on sale's rom and it just never worked. I could never boot back into the home screen. The odex me app at modaco worked a lot better than this script - for me anyway.

Purpose of this thread is to compile an index of links to resources such as RUUs, custom ROMs, and mods in an organized fashion. I've previously created and maintained a similar thread for the AT&T One X (EVITA) which can be found here.
This Index is always a "work in progress". Any suggestions on how to improve this index are welcome. If you find errors of any kind (incorrect or outdated info, broken or incorrect links, etc.), want your thread listed, or any other ideas to make this index better, feel free to respond here or by PM and let me know.
Please take note: This is an index, not a general technical support thread. Please do not ask questions about rooting, ROMs, etc. here. This is not the appropriate place for such questions, and you will have minimal exposure and response to your question by posting it here. There is an entire Q&A subforum for asking questions and getting assistance: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/help
DISCLAIMERS:
All work is by their respective developers as linked, and I take no credit for their work. Many thanks to all the developers and other contributors for sacrificing the time and effort to make these things happen.
I will not be held responsible if you try any of these mods, and your phone becomes bricked or otherwise damaged. Read up thoroughly before doing any mods to your phone. Know the risks, and understand what you are doing before trying anything.
Unlock Bootloader, ROOT, S-Off
Excellent guide here: Step by step guide for Unlocking and Rooting the HTC One (M8) AT&T Variant
Bootloader unlock
Simply go to HTCDev.com and follow the instructions there.
Root
After unlocking the bootloader, install the custom recovery of your choice and either:
1) Flash SU or SuperSU in recovery
2) Flash any custom or stock rooted ROM listed below
S-Off
Update: As of 12/7/14, the firewater devs have discontinued firewater. Since firewater is an online service, the exploit no longer works, even with the files. The thread is linked here for reference only: [s-off] firewater s-off
Sunshine s-off ($25) is currently the only working s-off method: http://theroot.ninja/
Toolkits
Note: I personally do not advocate the use of Toolkits. The steps are actually quite simple to do manually. And you are robbing yourself of a valuable learning experience by shortcutting the process. If you don't understand the process enough to do the steps manually, than you probably should not be rooting or modding your phone at all. UPDATE: I cannot currently advocate using the toolkits, as they have not been updated in a very long time. Outdated TWRP and SuperSU versions will cause problems for most versions of the M8 when using the toolkits!

RUUs
ROM Update Utility (RUU) is a Windows compatible executable (.exe) which will flash a complete software image to your device, including ROM, hboot, radio, stock recovery, and firmware. This is a handy method to return to (nearly) stock condition; as well as to recover from various conditions (typically when other solutions have been exhausted).
RUU will wipe internal storage. So backup any personal data by your method of choice, before running the RUU. Removable MicroSD (ExtSD) should remain untouched by RUU. But remove it, or backup that data, just in case.
If S-on, it is required to RELOCK the bootloader before RUU. Also, with S-on, you cannot run a previous (older or lower version number) RUU than what is present on the phone (primarly, I believe the hboot number is checked) meaning you cannot "downgrade" by RUU. Both bootloader lock and version check are bypassed when s-off.
S-off will remain after RUU, as well as SIM unlock (if you have it). RUU will unroot the device, as well as install stock recovery. To root again, or prepare for custom ROMs, simply unlock the bootloader again, and flash custom recovery.

CUSTOM ROMs
Note: My intent is only to compile ROM threads posted specifically to the AT&T M8 Development forum section. There is also a large number of compatible ROMs available on the "international" (generic) M8 Developmen forum section, already tabulated on its own Index thread here:
[UPDATED][INDEX][REPO][AIO] HTC ONE (M8) - ROMs | Kernels | MODs | Recoveries
Any ROM intended for the "GSM" variants of the M8 should in theory flash and function properly on the AT&T version. However, my recommendation would be to check the particular ROM thread to verify whether the AT&T variant is officially supported by the developer; or at least verified to flash and function properly by other AT&T users.
I will also caution DO NOT flash any ROMs or mods intended for the "CDMA" (Sprint, Verizon) or dual SIM versions of the M8. Dual SIM M8 is different hardware. Hardware difference has not been confirmed for the CDMA version (versus GSM M8) but at a minimum, there are partition and kernel differences, and CDMA ROMs are therefore not compatible.

Added. There is a lot of stuff in the "international" M8 forum that I still need to add here (as mentioned in Post #1). But thanks for confirming this one (both here and the "No question too small" thread).
I'm not crazy about the way the M8 forum has been fragmented. But it is what it is, and I'll have to work around it as best I can.

I'm posting in this thread because my ROM went missing and I'm hoping to locate it. Once I do it could be added to this list.
What I mean by that is that a couple of weeks ago I got the phone and D/L a GPE based ROM called SinlessROM GPe v1.35. It has some Team Nocturnal tweaks built in too.
Right after I installed the ROM I was traveling and couldn't check in here. Finally got done traveling and dropped in to check on the thread and it's gone! I mean, it was in the Android Development forum, now, it's not there any more.
Does anyone know what happened?

Its here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2709397
Its in the "international" M8 forum. It hasn't been in the AT&T M8 Development section in the time I've been here, but that's only been the last couple weeks that I've been active here (when I purchased the device).
hey redpoint73, I'm still running stock sense which is rooted and s-off'd and I'm curious as to what added functionality custom ROMs add (i know this is highly dependent on the ROM) and whether or not it's really worth the hassle of backing everything up, wiping the device completely, installing the ROM, restoring your apps, redoing all the settings etc etc which usually takes me from my past experience a good two hours to complete. Feel free to just use the example of the ROM you're using and what added functionality it provides that the stock experience does not. I know this is a subjective question which usually would return the typical "Flash one yourself and find out" response if it were posted anywhere else.
I'm actually digging the stock experience and I'm mainly asking because I've read multiple times that sense degrades and responsiveness slows over time and also if your or another ROM had some "i can't possibly live without these features" kinda thing. Thanks in advance for any insight. Other users that have custom ROMs installed, feel free to comment as well

When I attach my phone to my PC, I see the phone in my computer, but it is not letting me browse the files/folders any longer. If I try to open the phone memore or SD card, it locks up my windows explorer adn shows not responding. If I remove the micro USB cable, every think snaps back into action. I have rebooted the phone and PC I am sure its probably something stupid I am missing.
What is the deal?

The deal is that this is not the proper place to ask general support questions, as clearly indicated in the top post in boldface type:
this is an index, not a general technical support thread.
Hey Redpoint, fancy meeting you here. Guess what fell into my hands today? You guessed it, an M8. Kinda torn about it because I still really enjoy my One XL. Really cool finding another great resource page from you. Looks like I'm still in good hands.
The "change your mid without an eng bootloader" links to the wrong thread.

MultiSystem is a powerful tool and can perform potentially dangerous and/or destructive operations on your device and data that may affect your life. While it is unlikely to do irreversable damage to your device, it is not impossible, and you should proceed with caution. Loss of data and/or the need to re-flash a full stock (manufacturer-supplied) firmware IMGs (usually requiring a computer) is always a possibility, and is increasingly likely if you do not know what you are doing. It is possible to lose root access when using MultiSystem on locked-bootloader devices running unexpoitable (bu rooted) Android firmware, without careful reading of documentation or following the instructions. Please consult with expert users before performing actions you do not comprehend.

If this doesn't get affected by the locked bootloader, does it mean that you can flash AOSP ROMs on our phone with it? I know kernels are different, but maybe you have something else in mind. Sounds like a pretty interesting tool. Thank you.
From my Allianced Note 3!

It depends on the stock kernel though. So you can't flash AOSP ROMs for now (I've something in mind but not achieved yet: simply 2nd-init hijack of the kernel ramdisk. However, there's no promise that this could be achieved anytime soon). MultiSystem will allow you to run multiple virtual systems keeping your physical system partition safe & enjoying the freedom of swapping systems on the fly (say you've 3 virtual system IMG: flash a ROM to one of them; if something went wrong, use the boot options to boot the stock system or a secondary virtual IMG). Also, system backups now can be just a copy/paste of system IMGs & if you've Linux skills, you'll be able to insert a new microSD to your Linux machine & install/copy/modify virtual system IMGs as you wish & any of them is ready to boot when you insert it into the device & activate primary & secondary ROMs. For more detail, check the features in OP & Q&A section.

Sounds very interesting. if you ever need a tester for an AOSP project, just hit me up.
is it, in some way, close to the safestrap concept? Except this one has more options to it?

All 2nd-init recovery hijacks kernel at early boot & so, they've similar hijack methods but probably diffrent binaries or hijack scripts. There're many diffrences in the operation that you could easily notice by reading the Q&A section. MultiSystem is designed to be independet on device nor the OS version. I've tester's success on VZW S4 & ATT Note 3 for both LP & KK.
As for ramdisk hijack, this may be a long wait, since I need to deliver the main functions to almost all devices before adding time-consuming features.

I like how you made the tool independent on the device not the OS. That opens up a whole new level of usability for so many devices. You're good to go as long as you got root.
So, if I'm on a lollipop rom (on my note 3) and wanted to switch to another rom or just have to lollipop ROMs at once, Multisystem helps me get that. Sorry for asking a lot. Just trying to understand.
BTW, I read the whole thread.

You always need to run a virtual ROM supported by your current firmware/kernel. Always make data backup, b/c it's shared between all ROMs for performance/battery & to avoid splitting your data/messages/contacts/etc between different ROMs. So, you'll have only one recent backup of your data, in case you run a completely diffrent ROM that doesn't like your data (hence, wipe data & restore what you want from the shared backup).

Makes sense.
I'm asking because I wanted to know if this tool could be used as a "custom recovery" while on a lollipop rom just in case I wanted to flash something. And you know that SS doesn't work with LP and we are using a workaround to get to it every time we need to get to the recovery.

As the tite says, it's "MultiROM and Recovery Replacement". Yes, you can flah ZIP files to your stock system, current virtual system, or any of your IMGs. This can be done via MultiSystem Flash function or using FlashFire, which is 100% supprted by MultiSystem virtual ROMs. However, as stated in the Q&A OP, the updater-script shouldn't mount the physical system partition to /system when flashing to a virtual ROM (A minor edit in the updater-script is required).

When are you planning on putting the tool out for public? I see "under testing" in OP. Is there a specific reason for waiting? Just curious. Because this would be very helpful for other devs who want to build LP ROMs since they've been waiting for some work to be done on SS to work with LP (I know we have the workaround but a proper way is always preferred).

I'm working on a new version with bug fixes & S4/S5 support while @carl1961 is testing the current version. When he reports all issues on N900A & I fix them, it'll be immediately released.

Thank you very much, sir
As I've mentioned before, if you need a tester I'm always ready to jump in. My note isn't my daily driver, so I can f^ck it up with no problem as long as it is recoverable.

Since the current installation has some issues that makes it a bit complicated, I'd recommend for you to wait for the new version with one-step installation of all MultiSystem components in a flashable .ZIP file.
What hijack do you use for SM-N900A? safestrap just replaced e2fsck
And can you please push the source to github?

e2fsck is hijacked by MultiSystem as well. As for the source code, it'll most probably be open & get pushed to this GitHub repo.
* I know the word "best" in the title is a crazy word to use.
If I can at least narrow down what to look for and where it is I'll have a good start.
There are so many guides for so many various ROMs, Lineages, apps, launchers, etc I am utterly lost.
I see one "Index" called "Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Android Development" which I suppose I ought to *ONLY* look at, but then I also see pages that tell me I can put Android Oreo or Nugget on my phone! How? Which one?
Is this so? Where are those ROMs and are they installed differently that the ones in the "Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Android Development" section? Must I only consider 4.4.2 ROMs? Aarrrgh!
When the phone starts up we see the Verizon logo and an unlocked lock that says Custom underneath. I can choose Continue or Recovery.
* Continue runs the stock phone.
* Recovery runs a safestrap 3.72 (twrp v2.7.0.0) window with 8 option buttons.
The phone is an SM-N900v 4.4.2 build nc4.
I see a lot of n9005 options. Should I consider those ROMs?
I understand the concept of downloading a ROM to a miniSD card and using safestrap to load from the SD card. Is it that simple or ???
Mostly because it was the 1st ROM I came across that I found a way to download, I downloaded:
[ROM ] [4.4.2] N9005XXUFNG2 v2 [07 AUG ] HaWKiSH ELITE SERIES [ 5 THEMES ] by zohawkish
Bad choice?
Can't I get something newer with newer features?
Please answer this cry for help from a very confused dude!
Thank you all so very much.
