If it was included in S2/Note doesn't necessarily mean that it should be present in S3 too

If u install foxhound rom i think u have a chance to install polar office also just do the "custom install" with aroma. Im almost 100% sure i saw polar office there. Did not install it my self tho.

When you open the polaris viewer on the sg3, you'll get a popup saying you can download the office version.
Haven't seen it anywhere tough
Sendt fra min GT-I9300 med Tapatalk2

im currently in xlite rom, surprisingly it does have full polaris office without any warning message.

the thing is in gsmarena when they reviewed the phone they said it had both polaris office and google books pre-installed
but i can't find non of them anywhere
still if anybody has pollaris office pre-installed,I would be thankful if he/she sends its backup

Here's the full version from the S2.

You might need to copy the apk to system/app folder and the two lib files to to System/lib The CMW zip seems to not be working right... but it works perfect.

Just get Kingsoft Office on the market, it's free.
Polaris is a commercial software, so using a version on a phone it didn't come bundled with is a violation of the ToS and as such copyright infrigment.

Hey, Smart Office is now available as a free download in Samsung Apps, it's a full office editor.

Lol! Are you kidding man? Can you imagine the cash Samsung would have forked out to have Polaris bundled free with 20 million SGS2's? Do you think they REALLY care if a few smart xda guys do a sneaky port? Lol! Google Play app purchases are for life and can used across device upgrades so really I'm just extending the life of an app I purchased when I forked out $800 for my S2.

The point is that you never bought Polaris Office through the Play Market but it came bundled with the phone. While you can transfer the APK, the license -not in the pysical sense of serial number or file but in the sense of having been granted- remains on the original device.
However, owning a S2 MAY give you the right to use the APK on your S3 as long as you still own the S2, especially since afaik there are no security checks on the APK.
(It's the same as with backups of movies... you may have as many as you want as long as you have the original providing you don't bypass any relevant security features such as CSS [which according to some courts is not relevant anymore])

Oh yes you are correct, my Google play paid app story was more of an anecdote to how murky the Android world is in terms of digital rights.
You were pointing out the legal position mostly. True but really porting any Samsung stock rom apps to say cm9 is just as illegal in terms of rights, these apps come bundled with Samsungs rom.
I would argue that porting a bundled app to another device is not legally the same thing as using software which has a momentary vale (on Play say) and appropriate licence which is not paid for. So in the case of Polaris Samsung has bought the rights to a bundled version so sharing it around on XDA is no worse than any Samsung bundled app like S Voice. And certainly not as illegal as sharing Modded Samsung bundled apps.
I could be completely wrong on this one however I did get this Zip from XDA

OEM apps are generally fair game unless the OEM states otherwise (Swype being the prime example), as you cant actually buy polaris office anywhere (I looked, if I missed something, let me know) and its only shipped as an OEM product on android so its fair game.

Favor to ask re: Amazon App store

Hi all. Not asking for anything that is stealing....
I am a NC user in Canada.
As of yet the Amazon appstore is not available in Canada though I have it installed on my NC it won't let me download or purchase any content for geographical reasons.
I am sure this will change soon, but in the mean time I am missing out on some nice daily deals! For example swiftkey is available free today!
I am wondering if anyone would be able to pm me the apk they download for free from the appstore. I figure if I get it for free on the day it was offered free I am not taking anything away financially from them, I am only getting someone to act as my intermediary until the appstore can work for me.
Would anyone be able to?
Would greatly appreciate it!!!
I'm fairly 100% positive that Amazon is still giving money to the publisher for every 'free' app that's downloaded through their app store, so you are still taking something financially away from the publisher, even if not from Amazon. Past that, the code is still protected and not 'free' regardless of the initial cost to the user.
Possibly but fact is I am not asking for hacked app and currently it is free. being in Canada I just font have access. I font think I am asking much.
From 1.1 Nook Color with 1.1 ghz overclock
I don't think it would work anyway as the apk for the app wouldn't be tied to your Amazon account.

Also I think Amazon can tell you're in Canada. It's the same way Hulu and other video services can tell your not in America. Unless you use a proxy then you are sol.
I tried to install the apk on my phone. It installs but when you try to change the swiftkey settings it throws an error about not having the amazon app store installed and to install the app store to use.
Has anyone tried using a usa vpn for getting apps off amazon?

thats why i cant buy it but if i have the apk on a free app i want to see if it will work
The fact that.it doesn't cost the.person downloading it anything does not suddenly make it free and available for the downloader to distribute it as they see fit. The Amazon store is the distribution method the publisher has chosen this time, if they've (Amazon or the publisher) decided that Canada isn't a place they want to sell or allow Amazon to give the app away, that's their choice, and someone giving you the app is no different than someone giving you a paid version from the Market.

that is your opinion which is speculation it is more likely due to is sues that have nor yet been setup fact is if I drove 1 hour to south and got on few wifi there then I would have no problem.
Thanks for trying to be more of a problem than a solution.
I hope you never mess something up on your nook color as technically the stick image posted on xda wad nor felt released by Barnes and Noble dip you would be also doing something illegal.
There are cracked versions of this pretty program floating around but i wanted a legitimate version knowing it will only be a matter of time before the store goes live here and I will miss or on the offer.
Actually, it's not illegal to hack the NC. At least not in the US. They can void your warranty, but it's not illegal to hack it. What you are asking someone to do is illegal though.

I didn't say hacking nook was illegal. But using an .img file of the stock Rom to restore to stock is. B&N did not open source there OS version for release. That img file is not the same file as their update files. This is the whole OS to flash back to stock.
And while what I asked might have flirted in a grey area look around at what is available on xda that is normally pay software. I merely asked for a file being offered free on the day it was offered as such. If you have a problem with that make your own thread and don't [email protected] on mine.

I am afraid sideloading will not work too, as Appstore will need to authenticate your credentials first.
While Swiftkey is a great keyboard app for mobiles, I find Thumb Keyboard to work better for tablets.

Facebook, Netflix, or Words for friends apps?

Hello,
Just got my Tab on Friday. Are the subject apps available? I cannot find them in the market.
Thanks!

no on Netflix and the future of it on this tablet is quite grim too.
there's no native Facebook app optimized for tablets just yet (how silly is that), only the phone version which is not available for this device. people tend to like this as a substitute for now:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.locomolabs.facebook
or just use the browser.
i think Words With Friends is not tablet optimized either and thus not available.

There isn't even an iPad app for Facebook yet.
I use WWF on my Tab without issue
I use the Facebook app from my phone. Actually, it automatically downloaded and installed when I first logged into the tablet. It synced all my apps, even the ones that don't show up in a market search.
I read somewhwre, I believe it was the words for friends change log, that they were working on a tablet optimized version. Could be wrong though.

Friendcaster isn't free but it works great. FriendMe should have a new version out next week that's more usable. And Facebook iPad is coming out soon... so maybe HC next?
Friendcaster sucks IMO. Only thing it has is the feed. You're better off using the actual website. FriendMe is a little better but its still missing some of the core features.

Yes they did during the last update. They said they are working on a Honeycomb version. The phone version does work, but it cuts off the bottoms of the letters in your tray. You can't tell F's from E's for example. Also when you use a blank tile the letter chooser is not displayed properly.
That said, it does work.
I would assume the new UI will be more like the Ipad's.
Andy
I have WWF on my phone, and it auto downloaded to my tab when I opened the market for the first time.
Suppose I have to wait since this is my first Android anything
You can sideload it: Download it here
Completely legit, use the quick download button. Install Astro before you download it, and use the app installer.

I've got WWF on my tab. Auto downloaded first time. It blows on the tab atm. The bottom bar covers like 20% of the letters. for some you have to drag them up to see what they are. They need a tab version badly.

just spoke to a Netflix rep. to summarize, he said that they are very aware that tons of people are looking for a Honeycomb app, and that they have offered the major manufacturers (Samsung, HTC, Motorola..) the necessary things to integrate Netflix, and that it's up to the manufacturers to decide if they would like to implement the DRM needed to run Netflix. but since some of these manufacturers, Samsung for example, are planning on a media hub.. the Netflix rep said that Samsung might see it as competition to their own offerings. so we should all contact both Samsung and Netflix to let them know how badly we want Netlifx.

So I just finished chatting with Samsung and this is what they had to say....
Dave: Hi, thanks for reaching out to Samsung tech support. How can I help you today?
Andre: I recently purchased your new galaxy 10.1 and found out that there is no Netflix app compatible with it. why is that?
Dave: Please allow me to go through the inquiry.
Andre: k
Dave: Let me explain.
Dave: Netflix works on Silver lite to stream movies. The Samsung Tab doesn't support this Silver lite. However, Samsung and Microsoft are working to release a upgrade so that Tab will support Silver lite and then you can stream from Netflix.
Andre: how soon can we expect this?
Dave: I'm sorry; this information will be released only after releasing the appropriate upgrade for the Tab and I do not want to provide you with any false information.
Andre: are we talking weeks, months, years?
Andre: this is a big reason i purchased the tablet
Dave: I can understand your concern. I recommend you contact our phone support at 1-800-SAMSUNG (726-7864); they are available 24/7. I'm sure they'll assist you further in this regard.
Andre: k... thanks

Quickoffice Pro - Is it worth it?

So for 5 bucks Quickoffice Pro SEEMS like a steal, but I have two main problems with buying it, and needed help or opinions.
First, how can I get the pre-installed app off my phone (running UnNamed)? Second, is it worth it? What's the best Office/Word Processor app you've found so far?

You should be able to use titanium backup to remove the one you are currently running. If not, having both will not cause a conflict.
As far as price... I use pro, and I do like it. $5? I dunno, it may be worth it. It is definitely worth the $0 you will pay for it if you get it from GetJar though.

I got Quickoffice and Documents to Go both from Amazon as FAOTD. I can't decide which one I should be using, though.
My 5 cents worth of wisdom: I used Quickoffice, Quickoffice pro, Documents to Go ( on the Blackberry, admittedly), and OfficeSuite Pro5 on my GS2. Quickoffice pro opens all files without complaining including PDF and PPT/PPTX and displays them correctly. Quickoffice also opens MS office 2010. I got rid of OfficeSuite pro when I found out it did stuff behind my back and caused wakelocks. Documents to Go on the BB was terrible, but I freely admit I cannot comment on the GS2. However, the free BB version would not allow for document editing or download, so I won't even bother getting reacquainted on android.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I went ahead and purchased it, as well got a free "SmartOffice" from the GetJar app store.
Atlan, your post told me more than enough. Glad to know the other Office providers were ****. It won't matter much to me until I have my bluetooth keyboard connected and my phone connected to an HD screen and i'm typing documents for whatever PA school papers I might have.
Gotta day, Quickoffice Pro seems pretty legit so far, just hope it doesn't crap out on me later on in the year.

They're still working on it, actually, and my understanding is that no 240x240 screen sized device will be capable of supporting it under android 4.3, so they may have it out when they update to 4.3, pending Google's say-so.
So a device that does not have certification for a version of Android that doesn't even exist yet is a fraud?
As far as it not coming on the Android 4.2.2 version, that was public knowledge back in early September.
Oh BTW

Are you serious?!? Name at least one crowdfunding campaign that treated their backers with as much respect, which had as many detailed updates, which had stayed on schedule, which has worked so hard around the globe? They came up front about Play store hiccup and even offered an alternative of another on-line store until they will resolve licensing issue with Google (which btw they are working on actively).
I don't understand everyone defending this "upfront" action they decided to take after a Google exec put the kabash on the Play store on this device last week. But I work for a manufacturer of medical devices and if we advertise something to be in our product it has to be there or we would get our assess sued into bankruptcy. My point was that they should have never advertised the device as a Google Play store capable device if they didn't have all their ducks in a row. Business wise, it's unethical and in other markets even criminal.

I certainly was not trying to belittle anyone in the XDA universe.
But the solution of sideloading the Play Store apk is unsettling to me. I own an OUYA and was an early adopter of one of the first Android tablets, the Viewsonic G-book. I have also been rooting and roming since the DROID 1. While ROMS and sideloading is great, it's just unstable and in some situations becomes a full-time job of keeping up with updates and fixes.
I love messing with my devices as much as anyone else here, but for once I'd like to just buy an Android device that I didn't feel the need to have to change in someway, and spending upwards to $300 on an Android device in 2013 with its fair amount of promises should deliver on them.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD
I agree with you completely and feel the same way but we need to draw the line here at calling it fraud.
I'm comfortable enough with side loading that it isn't an issue but the developer model is what is being discussed. November 30th is a long ways away in shipping terms and until they definitively say no I just think it's better not to get up in arms about it. Let them do their thing. Believe me when I say that if they screw this up they will sink.

Should they have removed the mention of Play Store being included back in early Sept? In my opinion yes. The release that recently came out should have also been done back then as well. "unethical"? Maybe. Criminal? No. The disclaimer that was a the bottom of their KS since day one covers their ass. Period, end of story, thanks for playing.

All the KS units are in the clear. The pre-orders may be another matter.
In my book, the campaign of AI Watch is fraudulent. Regarding Omate, I have a pretty good feeling that even if they would have published this disclaimer while campaign was active - they still would have gotten as much supporters/backers because for a lot of the people not including Google play store is not a show stopper. With a ways around it (sideloading), and alternative store, and active updates about working with Google to resolve this officially, I still say they built a strong community trust.
Btw, with Google planning to release their own smartwatch and probably a pressure from tanking Gear, something tells me there are political reasons for Google to continue delaying their decision. Just my conspiracy theory

I think its really funny how people are complaining so much about it. i mean i am disappointed my self as its part of why i've pre ordered the 8gb 1gb omate truesmart but it wasn't the main reason the main reason is because its the best smart watch there is so far. I'm no programmer but I can still install apps etc so it wont be too hard for people to install them, them self's once someone provides us with them to install.
as for no smart watches coming with play store i have the omate prototype on my wrist right now (re-branded as simvalley aw-414.go) and it has play store built into the rom. i know because i factory reset it and it was still there. that being said i hope they make an update for the one I'm wearing right now as it has some terrible bugs on the ui that make it not so good for using some apps show multiple copy's of their icons and you can not remove any of them without uninstalling said apps, after you put so many apps on it some start to vanish and can only be seen if you search for them, it looks like they tried hybrid the app drawer and the home screens as their is no home screens so no widgets or only showing apps you want to see. it also has folders but their useless as you can only put 3 apps in them. it becomes useless if i install a different launcher to fix the other issues. do you think omate firmware would work on it ? because the firmware thats on it says omate_hw2.0_20130923.1 and the model number says omate too.
if someone releases firmware for it that works properly it would be not so bad and very similar to the lower spec omate internals wise? as it seems to be reasonable for its specs if you ignore those software bugs that should have been fixed before release.

I'm sure if it doesn't work right out of the box, we can make you a rom from the Omate that will work quite easily.

It does not sadly. I mean its still useable but the issues it does have make it not very good to use so it really needs a rom that works properly.
the rom thats on it is custom build version: OMATE_HW2.0_20130923.115849 and the model number is listed as OMATE.
but yeah I'd be really grateful if someone does make a custom rom for it that works properly and tells me which google play store version to install and were to get the apk etc, I'm also guessing they would need to make a rooting app for it too so it could be flashed tho right?

[APP]Tapatalk (Pro)

I figured I would come here for some sort of guidance about Tapatalk. I'm sure some of you remember way back when Tapatalk was a paid app. I bought it. And now there is a Pro version. Problem is, the app that I paid for is now free. I emailed customer support about it almost 2 weeks ago and still haven't received word back. Anybody else feel this pain or has anybody even been able to reach them about being compensated for it? Guess for now I have to resort to Aptoide to get what I want.

I might be missing something, but I don't understand the issue.
The app was good enough for you to pay for it when you paid for it, and no features have been removed. The only thing you're upset about is that now other people can get it free? It doesn't sound like you lost anything here. Why would they refund you when you had the app and used it far longer than anyone who is just using the free version now?
The license is lifetime so he has a right to want any refund.

I don't understand.
The license says you can get a refund for this app any time you want, even months after purchasing it?

i think he's upset that it's free now and he paid for services that r now i guess:good:
The issue is that he paid for a fully working product, now that product has been removed from the play store and replaced by a gimped version of another product that he possibly paid for as well. I myself find this extremely wrong from the company to do this. Instead they should have left the two versions as they were and add a new free gimped one, but they wanted the good ratings from the paid one for the free one... Such bad practice

They didn't remove anything.
They made the pro version free and the HD with tablet enhancements paid.
What features did they remove?

Can I use it for accessing XDA Dev?

that shows you have no idea what you are talking about.
The original 2 version has been removed from the play store (can now only be accessed with some link from them) and replaced by a gimped version of the "tapatalk pro" application. I wont go into detail as to what is all gimped, as you can look t hat up yourself, but just so you wont post something like "whats removed again", for instance posting picturesin the "free" version goes only with watermark...

But the version you paid for (that you installed initially) still posts pictures without a watermark, even though it is not in the Play Store anymore, no?
If not, then I see your point.

Just go to their forums and read all the threads about the mess they did themselves because they were greedy.

Looks like I'll have to do that to get the full story.
I'm a little miffed too because I paid for it, but now I have to use their free version with ads, and if I want the ad free version I have to pay again? Thats messed up to me. Make your paid version free and add back the ads, then make a "new" version that you now have to pay for? So basically I can stick with the old version (which I am), but now I don't get any updates or new features. Yes they are greedy, there have been 1 or 2 app devs that ive encountered that have made changes where previous buyers would "lose out" in some way, but they came up with some kind of way for previous buyers to redeem the new or corrected version. These guys did not....I mean didn't they already have a free version? I know they at least allowed individual forums to create their own version they could distribute freely.
+1 I've paid for 2 versions of the app already, they just taking advantage now. I won't be paying for anymore versions. Came here thinking many more would be as annoyed but not so. Tapatalks own forum has some interesting info but little care from the devs. Poor form.

Yep, they even go so far as to locking every thread that touches this problem... Worst company ever.

Yes, they won't even talk about it. Second time this year I've had a developer screw me over changes to a paid app. Then they complain about people not buying it.

I don't mind buying better apps etc but all they ever do is rebrand the same app with a feature or 2 and then ask for more money. Almost like we're paying to beta test. The arguments about buying a new copy of windows are stupid. But if people must, XP -> Vista -> 7 were significant enough changes to warrant paying for a new product IMO.
I was fooled twice, my fault but won't happen a 3rd time. If they do happen to release something amazing, I'll obtain it from a 3rd party source unfortunately.
Well I don't think you will receive a refund. This isn't even logical enought to debate.
I remain of the view that the old version was much better with the themes, and everything else
