[Q] How similar is our device to the Galaxy S2? - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

I've just come up with an amazing idea, but how closely are the players and the galaxy s2 related?

The only common similarities they share is the branding and AMOLED screens.

I can't, i have to chose from one of these.
But thanks for the reply.
i dont want to start new topic so i will ask here.
I want to buy new phone.Max price limit is 300e.
I m choosing between desire s, nexus s or maybe desire.
sure all of them have great screen, however i am little bit worried about nexus s because it doesnt have gorrila glass. so i dont put my phone in pocket with keys but you never known how can it be scratched. so is the glass of nexus hard to scratch like gorrila glass or not? and if not will screen protector help in gorrila glass way?
second demand are roms. i like miui rom from screens and i read that ics miui was released today for nexus s so its pro for nexus. so i need just these two roms, ics and miui.

Worth getting S2?

I would would like to know of it is worth getting a Galaxy S2? Would it be durable? Is rooting as simple as flashing a kernal? I'm considering if I should upgrade to this from a desire z.

i would wait for the Galaxy SIII to come if it was me, but if you get the SII, you won't be dissapointed.
Rooting IS EXACTLY like flashing a kernel (CF-Root, uses Odin). It's really easy.
And SII is a great smartphone, gets a LOT of development and it's really popular, so it will be supported for a long time imo.
Yes if you don't want to wait for the SGS3. Rooting SGS devices so far have been the easiest. Flash CF Root, job done.
Unlocked bootloaders are a plus on the SGS line unlike some other phones...
It's still a powerful phone and will last you for a while yet.
Yes!!u wont regret it
It's a very good phone although Samsung customer service leaves a lot to be desired . I had a problem with the phone not charging and took it to Sammy
They said it was moisture damage and they could not fix it. Thought they were talking rubbish so opened it up myself and found that one of the plugs was a bit loose. Fixed it and been working fine since. One thing I do have to add is that if you will be spending so much money on this then you should root it to make full use of it

The Beast would have the following features
DISPLAY: Type Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
Size: 720 x 1280 pixels, 4.6 inches (~319 ppi pixel density)
Protection: Corning Gorilla Glass
- TouchWiz UI v4.0
MEMORY: Card slot microSD, up to 32 GB
Internal: 16GB storage, 1 GB RAM
CPU: Quad-core 1.4 GHz
Honestly its more like a galaxy nexus but with slightly better specs.

don't hestiate
don't hestiate, buy and enjoy SII. i'm really happy with my Sii until now. Using from May 2011 and never see others devices better than Sii until now. Sorry for my poor English.
Far easier than the Desire Z anyway. No commands at all. All I did was flash a rooted ROM through ODIN then flashed CWM and flashed the ROM I wanted. But I wouldn't suggest getting one now, the S3 is around the corner. Most likely to be comparable to the HTC One X, if not drastically better.
I honestly don't like the HTC One X. It doesn't fit for my uses. It doesn't have external battery and memory card. As I also don't like sense. As I have helped friends to root Samsung phones, they seem quite easy. My main concern is that the phone wont last me long as I seem to have a habit to drop my phone. What preventive measures can I take to not crack the screen?

Doubt about new phone

Greetings! First of all sorry for my bad english.
I'm watching this forums for some time but I finally made an account because I need some advice.
I have Galaxy Ace at the moment and I'm in a search for a new android one.
So i got stuck on Xperia S, Galaxy S2 or something 3rd
And I'm not sure if galaxy S2 is still worth buying? Is there any better dual core andorid?
Quad core is just to much at the moment for me and I don't see any reason to get one.
I found HTC one S is a great phone but it's to costly for me and I really don't like HTC phones.
Anybody?
Best dual core android at the moment? Or at least best for its value
The galaxy S II is still a great phone. Depending who your service provider is you could maybe even get some other phones, but the s2 is amazing. It is one of the most durable phones, even though it does feel cheap. It will come with touchwiz so I suggest you put a custom rom on it. The battery life is pretty nice on it. The screen is nice, large and bright. The phone is very nice, with its biggest downfall being it feels rather cheap, but still a trustworthy phone.

Go for S3! There won't be S4 anytime soon, so... There won't be a better phone any time soon, so, until then S3 will be the best phone in the world!! (Just like the S2, two years in a row!)

If u have a galaxy s2 . i dont think u should upgrade to galaxy s3
because there isnt that many new feature in it that is worth the upgrade
the galaxy s2 is a great phone and it will suit your needs for another year
so stick with s2 till s4
trust me i had s2 and i went for s3 and i didnt find that many new stuff that was worth the upgrade
The main improvements over the S2 for me are much better screen, call quality (clarity and no echo), hugely improved audio (even better than S1 thanks to siyah audio tweaks) and much much better battery life. Plus an improvement in looks IMO.

I've had my S3 for 2 days now having upgraded from S2 and to be honest so far I think my S2 was better. I was running wajk miui on my S2 and it was great. running stock on the S3 at the moment but i'm finding lots of little bugs. motion to put your hand over the screen to stop media doesn't work, s-voice is pretty crap and it doesn't seem anywhere near as fast as my S2.
Having said all that I'm going to persevere with it and try different roms til I find one that makes it run much better.

Personally, right now if I had the choice of SGS3 and Note 2 I'd go for the note. Faster CPU and more RAM, bigger screen, battery and S-Pen.
Wait for the Galaxy Note 2 if you can put up with the huge screen (in some cases it's the bigger the better but that screen is a little too big for my liking)

What is stopping you from upgrading to a Note 2?

I'm tempted really, by the speed and stuff and the extra ram. But the size irks me a little and the fact that the only plus goodness is just a pen which writes on the screen, it doesnt help that it costs around 600euros here in my country, which is 800 SGD.
Hi,
I haven't upgrade my international Galaxy S3, because I hate big screen like that. I prefer one phone and one tablet (10inches).
I don't think they have an huge difference between Galaxy S3 and GNote 2 speed. At last, pen exists for galaxy S3or other capacitive digitizer.

I can use the Spen for my s3 too?
I don't know if I had to set something up beforehand, but I tried my friend's Note II S-Pen on my S3 and it didn't work. Not going to lie, I'd've liked a Note 2 but I didn't know if it would've fit my hand (I found out today that it does - mostly). If my next phone is a Samsung one (hopefully so) then it will be the Note 3.

No, S-pen doesn't work. But C-pen (made by Samsung) is design to work with Galaxy S3.
(Because of digitizers were different on Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2, some features are only available on GNote II.
one word. "BIG"
It's just too big, that nd the fact that I have 22 months of my contract to run.

C pen is rubbish and doesn't respond to the s3 very well even without a screen protector, I know cause I wasted £15 on it

Who said the Note II is an upgrade?
It is bigger, but sometimes smaller is better (if this weren`t true, Samsung wouldn`t release the S III Mini).
first it's too big, expensive, and i love my galaxy s3
The 1gb ram of my s3 just irks me actually. But I think I can survive till s4 comes out..
