4g in CM9? - HTC EVO 3D

Maybe I'm the only one who saw it, or maybe I don't know what I'm reading...but... I haven't seen anyone else talking about it. Seems like big news? I've read it like 100 times to see if I'm missing something that makes it unimportant, but I don't think I am, so here, you guys check me:

Its pretty big but you know how for some reason 99% of people on xda only have sprint's 3g in dial up areas.
I live in a suburban place with decent 3g and extremely fast (12mpbs) 4g so this is really big news for me.
We just have to wait until its stable before toast will release it.

It's big news. It will be bigger once it reaches us. I use 4G at work, since it's better than the 3G signal there. Plus, it just completes a huge piece of the pure aosp experience puzzle. We're getting there!

Yes! I can't wait!

Is it true?
Seriously, I'd like to know if this means 4G has been obtained on CM9. That gives hope to Sense 4.0 ROM's, too (I would think).

They've gotten it working, but I don't think it's available in any release yet. I don't think it'll help the Sense 4 ROMs since the HTC kernel is apparently quite different from the AOSP/CM one.

Thanks for the info. It still gives me hope in the aspect of if they got it to work here, it's possible elsewhere.
My pet peeve with having a ROM is to have one fully functional with all of the capability the phone came with. Having the Wimax hardware with no Wimax functionality is like having a limb that doesn't work.
Sense 4.0 (at least the two I tried by Chubbzlou) are definitely worth the daily drivers and very stable and responsive. However, where I am ATM, I haven't been able to do much flashing and testing AND I need my 4G/Wimax.
This also is interesting because I'd like to try CM9, but, shied away because of 4G and supposed stability issues.

Great news since I am having a hell of a time selling my 3d for my upgrade. May just keep the damn thing.

Lucky. Wish they had done what they were supposed to with WiMAX. I'm stuck with poor signal as it stands on Cape Cod as it is.

It has, there's even a screenshot for proof. But it isn't yet implemented in any release builds as far as I can tell.

Unless the battery life is at least ALMOST as good as on MEAN rom, I will not make the move. I have always exclusively stayed with CM ROMs in the past, but the power and battery life of MEAN roms has spoiled me. And with MEAN ROMS, I have always had 4g.

I already made a post about this. I would love to just touch it. I dont care if its stable or not. CM9 is sweet however meanrom has been great its just too damn slow all the time...

You guys realize that it's cm9 for the 3d was released yesterday with Wimax, right?

Your personal Opinion

For people in a good 4G area, do you miss not having 4G when flashing a 3.5 rom? I mean, I use the 4G at work when I need to upload to the dropbox quickly, or if I need to load a video quickly...but I just don't know.
Do you miss it?
Thanks in Advance
I get 4g at work and home but have never used it except to run a speedtest. I just dont care about it as 4g drains the battery like crazy
I would miss any feature that doesn't work even if I barely use it, such as 4G. I'm sure other people have their reasons for not caring, BUT I would love to counter this question with another one:
What is so appealing about Sense 3.5 that you would even be willing to think about sacrificing a fully functional phone for? I'm not sure there is one added feature that I can't achieve with either an app or Sense 3.0 itself.

I have an answer to that...just the addiction of flashing, trying something new. We all love it. It's why we're all here. But this isn't only for 3.5, but for cyanogenmod as well, which doesn't have working 4G.

+1 i love sprint but their 4g coverage is horrible.
I've only used 4g like twice. It drains the battery too fast for me to use it without my phone being plugged in.
Thanks for all the feedback guys. I think I'll stick with with 3.0 than.
I'm intrigued about some of the answers you received. People saying they are only here for one ROM only, or a flashing addiction. I'm totally baffled by that thought process. I guess I just don't have the same opinions than most. To me a community that shares knowledge, open source, and continues to not only improve the platform, but actually the whole industry is what keeps me here. I have one word for you that will speak a thousand words in itself. That word is "TrevE". That pretty much explains what I was trying to say.
I've always loved the CM ROMS ever since my HeroC days. When I first got my Evo3D at launch, 4G was cool but not necessary. I've since been on MIUI and CM and do not miss 4G at all. My wifi connection here at home is a lot faster than Sprint's 4G anyway. And when I'm out and about, 3G is fast enough for me.

I'm right there with you. While I don't use either of those ROMs, I have a lot of respect and appreciation for a ROM built from AOSP source, from the ground up. I don't use them because I really enjoy sense overlays, and they had to be released incomplete, and I can't accept that. I however have used cm, and what is there I really enjoyed.

CM9

I'm so excited for CM9 that I actually just spent a half hour typing different combinations of 9.0.0-RC0 shooter kang into Google hoping to find some sort of alpha zip or something to no avail. Lol.

I have been running one of the Evervolv pre-Alphas for about a week now - All 3 of the ICS builds in the CDMA dev section are usable, you just have to figure out which features you can and can't live without. I love preludedrew's Alpha4, the HW accel makes it so snappy. Honestly I don't miss CM too much (but I will definitely try them out whenever there is a release). Try out one of the other releases - having ICS is sooooo worth it!

I just wish the CM team would pop their heads out every once in a while to let us know that the evo3d is still under development. I'm sure it is, just worries me sometimes. Nobody has really released a stable AOSP rom (or even beta really) yet and the phone has been out for 6+ months.

I agree although this phone is tough for a few different reasons.
1. There are two completely seperate versions GSM vs. CDMA and thats fragmenting the devs.
2. 3D is tough and a first for many
3. GSM kernerl source was f'ed for a long time so that threw development time in the trash
4. The upcoming ICS release has somewhat slowed development because some are just waiting to see what happens with an update. I wouldnt want weeks or months of my hardwork go to waste overnight because of an update to a whole new build by HTC.
With that said i think once ICS does drop it could provide many answers about some of the "under the hood" workings of this device, and development will pick up. As someone said this phone is a real beast under the cover.
None of this is to say that the devs currently working arent doing a great job. some of the stuff i have seen is great and there is a lot being done to get AOSP roms going on this phone. I have seen Development pick up greatly over the last few months. So i look forward to whats in store.

Never getting cm7 because of ICS is just speculation on your part. Regardless, we never got it.
We aren't even officially supported by CM, nobody knows what exactly is going to happen. That's why people should get comfortable with other roms...I can only imagine what this place is gonna look like once cm9 nightlies drop and our phone isn't on the list.
I have no doubt that CM will eventually make it's way to the evo 3d (I do have doubts about the 3d part ever working tho) it's just gonna take a little time. It will be worth it once everything gets rolling.

i just wanted to point out that according to the cyanogenmod website we are officially supported
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/htc-evo-3d
we cant say for sure that the reason cm7 support was dropped was because of ics but it is a pretty good assumption thats the case. im sure once cm9 nightlies drop all our fears will be lifted lol. at least thats what i think but with how quiet the cyanogen team is cant help but begin to doubt them haha at least we have some great alphas to play with for now!

Hey Zone. Great to see you on the Rezound forum Unlocking and rooting is fairly easy but I was a bit gun shy at first. Tried to read up a bunch first if that make sense. lol. I really don't mess around too much with custom kernels because I feel the stability and speed is already good enough with custom roms. But I'm sure custom kernels bring this device to another level. Anyway, just wanted to say hi.
Also Cleanflash is a great way to flash boot.img. Scott did a great job with it.

lol. That's the truth. Wimax speeds were about the same for me here but the difference is LTE has more coverage in my town overall. Less dead spots for sure. Only thing that has surprised me since switching is there have been at least 4 LTE outages this year. It seems like when they go down, I can't even get 3g it goes right to 1x which is dreadful. But I'm sure they are going to iron this out.
Haha.. funny to see you switch over too. It's funny how that works. Amazing how long that EVO battery lasts when it's NOT attached to the NOT-now Network.
The speeds/switch capacity issues/discount change finally did it in for me too.
Glad to see friends on the other side!

ICS currently has a touch screen bug (big, for me) where sometimes you swipe in one direction and it 'jumps' the other way. May be the kernel.
GB is stable and working great. All of the GB ROMs are stable as a rock.
I use Ineffabilis. Lots of great features, and 100% stock base. Nothing stability-wise touched.
Every single non-stock kernel has stability issues with most peoples' rezounds (even without overclocking). The dual 1.5ghz doesn't seem to need an overclocking (this is the first phone I've ever felt that way about), so it doesn't bother me.
Stock kernel is great, and everything works. Some great Devs here, and it's getting busier by the week as our phone gets more attention.
Welcome, sir!

I have been looking and looking but I cant find a CM9 port for the Rezound.. Can someone link me?

But here is the Nightly thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566489
Note that it has been closed more or less due to abuse (excessive off-topic discussion and general whining)
The developer's repo for the builds, note the changelog in the thread is not up to date, the latest build in the repo is from May 16th at the time of this post:

RIL and ICS kernel are the primary roadblocks. Both have been worked on behind the scenes, RIL is fixed and kernel will happen eventually. CM9 will likely arrive in full form sooner or later, but currently not complete and stable.
That sucks! how is the INC way more stable than the rezound for ICS?
So.. when ICS comes out from verizon for the rezound, Cm9 stable will be possible?

Even though I don't particularly like Sense, the Sense ROMs I've tried are generally more completely functional that the Sense-less ones. I'm willing to roll with one (Nils' Business Sense) until a CM9 port comes out.
But to address the OP, the SGS3 will probably have a better CPU at the least when it comes out; don't know about radios & camera, though. It also looks like the CM9 work is already farther along. If you can wait, you can order or pre-order the GS3 and return it if the camera or radio prove to be intolerable. I probably would have waited too if my mom hadn't had an emergency need for my Inc

Work on CM9 on the GS3 is only for the international version, 3g, the US version will have LTE and will have the same issues.
Two words... Released Source....
Until we have that, it will be tough going.
Unfortunately, it appears the halcyon days of AOSP on Verizon are past. Hope I'm proves wrong by the GS3.
I'd like to help change that. Have never developed for an Android kernel before, but have done Linux work. Willing to take a shot at the pmem issues at least. Sent a PM to dmeadows to see if he's down but not expecting much. I'll just have to wait and see

Notification Dropdown Quick Settings Tab

First I want to thank all the crew working on the Super JELLY ROM. Your attention to detail is making this the best ROM I've ever used and I've used quite a few.
I have a question to throw out to whoever has the answer. One of the things I miss most with my update to Jelly Bean is the Quick settings tab in the notification dropdown window.
Are Quick Settings just gone forever with JB, or will there be a Mod for it someday?
I know Super JELLY has something like it as an option is settings, but I just liked the old school one.
From what I've read, the code that allowed enabling that has been removed by Google/Android.
Edit: wait, maybe HTC removed it. I don't use sense, but on AOSP, I have the same toggles that have existed since froyo (or maybe it was GB, I forgot). Just abandon sense, android is much better on the AOSP side.

Truth...
Look man, the evo is a great phone. However, if you plan on having a broad source for development forget about it. This phone is and has been coming up short with custom offerings. Sorry. Because I once loved this phone, but there is nothing here happening for it.
HTC removed them. Started with our last OTA actually as we saw the ATT OneX have quick settings in their OTA, and then when it came to the EVO getting theirs it was removed... Personally thought that this was a sprint thing since other One series had it but now with the JB OTA rolling to all devices now it shows it was an HTC decision as its now gone from all of them...
Maybe they have something in the works for that area, or there are other plans in place for something else completely new?...

Development lacking?....
I'd rather have a handful of top notch work, then a ton of average work, in my opinion...
"...coming up short..." ??????
What exactly are you missing out on that's somewhere else currently???
I'm sorry but this kind of stuff here is what's wrong here! People that want to sit back and complain in ANY way about development should move on and leave... This is a development site, if you are not going get off your own butt and try to learn yourself and HELP then you best not utter a peep complaining about development!!!

CM10.1, MIUI w/4g, SlimRom Official, JB kernels w/ active governors, updates from DEVS consistently, mostly regarding AOSP roms.. but thats just a few..Sorry if what I wrote as opinion bothered you or anyone else. Simply stating what is true, this device has dated AOSP roms, and I was informing the user. Apologies..However, you wont have to hear my opinions stated anymore, I bought a GS3 to get some solid custom roms. See ya!
CM10.1 is here maybe you should look before posting it doesn't exist......and JB kernels will come once source is out... Which will be pretty soon, so dunno what's the disconnect there...do you not know that to build true custom kernels you need source? sgs3 got JB before the evo so naturally they'll have custom kernels before it too...
Sorry things are not spoon-fed enough over here for you to get everything you want... Like I said before, part of the current problem is attitudes like yours where you will have the nerve to sit back and complain about things but NOT get off their arse and try to help/learn!

Still lacking..

Glad they are spoon feeding you over there.
As I said before only thing lacking is kernels and that's awaiting on source which will be out anyway now. We got JB after the SGS3 did so its natural to get source after them too...
Now since you have ur SGS3 and are fully over there, I'm going to suggest you stay out of here as your posts are nothing but trolling in nature...

I couldn't deal with the 'plastic' overall feeling with the GS3 but that's just me. Overall the development for the EVO LTE is phenomenal. Now with CM10.1 running almost perfect, I could never imagine giving up my cell.

Every HTC phone I've owned had an aluminum chassis that gave it a bit more heft. They have a very solid and reliable feeling to them. My phones have survived being dropped from all sorts of heights and all types of conditions. My father once dropped his HTC Touch Pro in discarded motor oil and the phone still to this day powers on and works. He has yet to upgrade it because it's only his work phone and he claims it's the most reliable phone he has ever owned.
I've owned the gs3 before I bought this EVO and I have to say. Yes there is more development there, but overall its all the same ****, we have devs working hard for us just like they have devs working hard for them over at the gs3 forums. we have great roms over here for us EVO users. My only real issue is with custom roms (cm based) is my Google nav not working at all but personally its not a big deal, I'm fine with sense, I can get telenav to work there.
I do wish we had miui (which I believe someone is working on, could be mistaken).

You mean like this?
So the quick settings are available in Viper4g 3.0.0 I believe they are the only JB Rom that has them thus far.
