Hey guys i am playing with wattsapp & so i managed to change UI of this app & now i want to modify the name.
For ex - wattsapp to wattsapp ultimate
I tried Apk edit but its not detecting Java even i have the latest one (java 7 update 5)
I know Xda is Home where developers live so asking here,hope you guys will help me out..!!!

Try APK manager. Decompile APK ..change name and compile again. Search for APK manager. Or APK tool tutorials in XDA.. Post questions in Q&A section for quick answers.

as for the file, go to res/values/strings.xml
and change
<string name="something_application_name_txt">whatsapp</string>
to whatever

u need to do 'if' command for ur rom's SemcGenericUxpRes.apk on apktool,

Can anyone please direct me to the correct tutorial(or similar) on how to modify framework-res.apk files of 2011 xperias like St15i,st18i, etc.. ????
I have been Here but it is for the earlier xperias. Does it apply to today's xperias also ???
decompile apk using apkmanager , edit files and zip.
install apkmanager first and you will get to know everything, no need for a tutorial.

I'm using Apk Multi tool, since Apk manager is no longer supporting.
My problem is that the system ui apk i have is from a custom rom(Hybrom v11) which has control panel in the notification area.
Now when i'm decompiling the system ui.apk i get an error in apk tool, an error too technical in the log for me to understand.
I get an error in Apk Manager 4.9 too probably the same as apk multi tool.
So if error occurs some part of the apk is not decompiled right ?
If it is not decompiled correctly how am i going to edit the xmls and recompile it ??
systemui.apk needa dependencies to be decompiled. check there will be an option of decompiling apk with with dependency. when it asks for dependency file, point it to framework-res.apk

Just now did that. But apk tool says that framw-res is not the dependent apk. So what is the solution ??
decompile it without dependency and post log here.

Any way one off topic question . Can you tell me how to mod power menu. I want to add reboot and recovery in power menu for my st15i . Do i have to add images for it ??
its not in systemUI afaik. there is other file I forgot its name.

Currently i'm refering This thread. It says I have to edit fw-res and Android.policy.jar . Is that method applicable to Xperia 2011 devices ??

Greetings XDA, Im new here and i need some help regarding apk multi tool.. Ive searched the forums but i couldnt find any suitable answers
So I am trying to decompile the framework-res.apk and edit the styles.xml in values folder .. but everytime i compile it back and push it to my sytem/framework, and restart my phone bootloops..
this happens even if i donot mod anything in the apk and just decompile - recompile - push..
Any ideas ?

You have to sign the APK after you decompile!

This is wrong. Never sign a system framework file. You only sign user apps and a very small number of system apps.
What changes are you making? For what OS?

ohhk! It happened to me as well and someone told me its because I haven't signed the APK.
Anyways, Thanks for correcting me
Try by making compression level to 0 and heap size to 512
This solved my problem though.
Also be sure that u don't get any errors while compiling the apk.

i am trying to edit infinity view apk.
I decompiled it using APK Multi tool and created a project but it always gives me error as shown in fig.
Plz tell me how to fix this error.
I think i have to import some files but don't know how to do them properly. i tried somethings but unable to resolve this error.
I think you also need framework files.

Why are you editing with eclipse. What do you want to change exactly? Edit the xml file with notepad++ .. And compile back apk with apk tool again.

Use notepad++ to edit .xml and .smali files.

I just finished cooking a ROM, but when I touch the messaging app shortcut it says the App isnt installed. Meanwhile if I go and open it up from applications menu it opens up without a problem.
I would like the rom to install without this problem. I think it could be that the shortcut is pointing somewhere else and not to the actual application location.
Any advice on this?

I mean in a Rom developing way. I know I can remake the shortcut and it will work.
I need to know if theres a way to edit the shortcuts targets inside the android config files.

if permanently den open .apk and rind maniefist. (or sumthing ) den goto 'label' tag change apk name of installing. if u wanna change link search like 'proccess.mms.xxx' replace all like 'process.phone.xxx'
Hey, I am having a different problem but still apk problem, I am Modding the stock keyboard ics apk, I just unzipped it changed the icons and then rezipped into a apk but it won't install the apk, during installation it says app not installed. Can anyone help me, thanks

My question is how they make it able to run on other devices?...How i can mod ? answer my question take me as a noob.

it is only for developer i think,
mod app is not easy for common user,
if you do not know well about development .you will find mod some application is a very difficult thing.

Well first things first, you need the apps you're going to mod...
Pull them from your ROM.
Decompile
You need apktool for this...
First things first, you need the framework-res.apk in the apktool folder.
Open a command script and install it with: apktool if framework-res.apk
Then decompile your app ( ex: SystemUI.apk ) with: apktool d SystemUI.apk
Make your changes
Change the images, do some XML editing, some smali things....
Recompile
If you want to recompile it to an .apk file use this in the command: apktool b SystemUI
DO NOT ADD APK, cuz you're building the SystemUI folder contents into an .apk

Is this just an posibility 4 Layout and ui (XML) changes or can i even look & change @ the java Code and underling activities?
