I have a big problem with Google Currents, as when I run MyBackUp it freezes when it comes to that app, or if I have background sync on in Google Currents, or when I try to uninstall the app.
I can't even factory reset under recovery as it always freezes when it tries to format 'data'.
Any ideas on how to fix?
I'm running CyanogenMod 9.

Delete currents data manually (with a file explorer, a terminal or via adb). Try the whole directory first (in /sdcard/Android/data search for the currents directory), if that doesn't work, delete everything inside the directory first then delete the directory.
Thanks for your help.
I've now tried that with Root Explorer but can only get as far as deleting all the other files under com.google.android.apps.currents which aren't creating a problem. I am left with 2 directories I can't open or delete without the system freezing and requiring a restart.
Any other ideas?
Try doing the same, but in recovery via adb, that way you'll be sure that currents is not in use. If you have directories inside com.google.android.apps.currents that can't be deleted, go inside those directories and delete everything inside, then delete the directories.
I can only drill down so far in com.google.android.apps.currents before I freezes. I can't get in to the 2 problem directories to delete any files in them.
I'll try and get my head round adb and see if I can delete it that way.
Thanks again.
Dude... Try to re flash the rom or port another rom... One more option is to take out sd card... Nd format it from your computer after copying your necessary data!
If useful... Do thank

I've tried to reflash the ROM but I can't factory reset as it freezes when it tries to format /data. I've tried to flash another ROM as well (without a factory reset) but that didn't solve my problem and just gave me a less stable ROM as I didn't format /data.
The problem files aren't on the SD card, so taking that out and formatting it won't help.
Thanks for your suggestions though. :good:

Thanks but TiBu has the same problem. The system freezes as soon as I try to unistall Current or wipe it's data.

It seems to be any access of the directories by the system creates a freeze.
Hopefully I can work out how to use adb and delete them that way.
If google currents is installed in your internal memory..try to tramsfer it to sd card..and if its in sd card try changing your sd card and also formatting it FROM THE COMPUTER !!

Do you know what the adb commands are to move the app to the SD card? I can't find one.
Or even better just a way to uninstall the app using adb which will hopefully delete the problem directories with it. (Should do!)
I'm an adb n00b and don't understand if/when I need to be mounting /data for example.
Thanks
It's OK I found the command I needed. mv
Problem fixed!
Thanks

Recently when I put APK's on my SD Card and try to install them I receive the 'Application not Installed' error. When this happens with market apps it's easy enough to unmount the SD and remount after the install. However if the APK is on the SD how can I do this?
Is there a fix for this? Also if it helps I'm running the Wildpuzzle ROM and the APK I'm trying to install at the moment is Angry Birds (getjar).

Yeah, the application installer shows up, I just receive the error message a few seconds of the scrolling grey progress-style/working bar.
Do you have a USB Cable? Try using "DroidExplorer", an awesome PC client that can directly install apps. Or, try using a File Browser like Root Explorer or Super Manager.
Do you, by chance, have an App2SD Patch? Because I have always found them buggy!
Try to "undo" everything you did up to before it stopped working. Also try formatting your cache partition and/or erasing dalvik cache. Did you do any flashing without making a NANDROID backup first?
Also try "SuperOneClick", there is an option to "Enable Non-Market Apps" for rooted phones.
Second-last resort? Factory reset. Last resort...? Backup all your apps/settings and reflash

Thanks for this. I'm trying Droidexplorer, explorers on the device wont install the apk as it returns the same error.
How long should the installation take. It's been running 15 mins so far, the internal storage has decreased a little but the installing window (on pc) is still up?
I am assuming you have a rooted phone with unrEVOked3 right? Would you happen to have some kind of App2SD patch installed....? Because I always found them unstable.... what firmware are you using? I am loyal to Sunaabh v1.1 (Froyo) Custom Firmware as it is well supported
Hmmm I've encountered that installing loop before. But only when trying to install an APK that wouldn't normally work, such as an older version of the Market or Flash 10.1. It just means it's waiting for ADB server to do something but ADB has obviously crashed. It should not take more than 30 seconds for an APK to install via DroidExplorer. Just unplug your phone and close DroidExplorer.
Does this happen with all APK's? How many have you tried?
Only thing I can think of is that you did something to damage your package.xml data and/or permissions are corrupted.
Did you try formatting your cache partition in Clockworkmod? Please try this, it will not destroy any data. But it will trigger a long reboot - it will appear frozen at the bootup splash screen but just let it go while it rebuilds the cache.
Also try "Clear Data" under Applications > Manage > Market.
Have you flashed anything in clockworkmod? If you can provide more details of exactly what you've done to your phone that might help, but I really doubt it.... I think the only option is to restore from a Nandroid Backup or Reflash Sorry... but these things do happen and we always learn the hard way lol....
You can use the official HTC Sync software to backup your phone numbers and SMS and stuff I believe, and if you want to backup your installed apps you can use Titanium Backup or many other Backup apps on the Market, Free or Paid.
Make into a zip file and flash via recovery

Thanks for everyones help, I now have it sorted!
I started an installation through Droid explorer and then cancelled it when the apk was on the phone.
Then I unmounted my SD
Then I used root explorer to browse to the apk on the phones internal memory
It installed with no worries and I remounted the SD!

EDIT: If it happens again, maybe you could try to format the SD card. Might be possessed with some bad stuff in the .android_secure folder or something.
Just as the title asks, what way can i backup my /data folder on my phone?
This app can do:
http://download547.mediafire.com/q29mmmao8urg/1mnp840xlv9v6qq/App2Card_2.9.6_26June11.apk
Ive been using it for long time instead of Titanium backup to backup not only files, folders but also apps with settings. All you need is Data Tools/Backup/files, folders, just select the desired item
Hope that help

I dont think so, but I think your sd card is not enough of space for this big /data, its more than 2GB. Did you check for this?

Hi,
I recently flashed a new ROM (fla.sh's fla.sh X2, it's excellent, btw) and successfully set up ext4 partitions for a2sd.
The problem is that I sorta "pushed" my phone a little bit too hard whilst downloading 3 apps simultaneously from the Market (I have a weak connection and was furiously multitasking at that time). In the end, those 3 apps wouldn't start at all; it'll load, then pop up a force close dialog.
First I thought it was a problem with the Market data or cache, so I cleared both. Still got errors. Now I believe that the apps are messed up from the ext4 partition.
How can I fix this? I browsed the partition through Terminal Emulator and Ubuntu, but I can't seem to find anything that'll help.
Should I format the partition (or SD card)? I'm picking that as a last resort, since I have other apps in a2sd.
Thanks in advance, let me know if I'm being ambiguous or you need more info.
actually u can browse a2sd partition directly using ur phone, no need ubuntu or teminal whatsoever. in this case, im using rootexplorer. its /system/sd
I can't believe I just realized that. Thanks for mentioning!
But still isn't helping me with my problems.
I took a look over at the fla.sh X2 post, and fla.sh said that it's caused by the V6 Supercharger script.
I'm downloading the de-supercharger script now, hoping it'll fix it.
Have you tried unninstalling them and then installing them again? :S
No, just do a factory reset before flashing. It will format your .asec and sd-ext folders and clean out the apps.

Btw, how do I mark a thread as solved using the XDA app on Android? :\
But thanks for everybody's help!

Just add [closed] or something to your first post
I just made a clean install from FoxHound 4.1 to FoxHound 1.5.3 with a factory reset.
Everything seams to work fine but I have a couple of problems.
One of them is that gallery not displaying photos in DCMI folder on external sd?
I can see all the photos when using a file explorer, but the gallery app refuses to display them, it only display new photos, even though they're placed in the same folder.
I am also having a problem getting playerpro to find the "MUSIC" folder on my external SD, when I want to select the music folder all it shows is a "/".
GoBackup was also unable to find it's backup folder on the external SD.
However apps like Power AMP finds the files on the external SD with no problem.
Thanks in advance.

okay the next resort is to delete data from mediastorage in application manager..reboot your phone and see if it works...
Install gallery refresh from Google play (free). It should force a media refresh.
I don't know if this app works for a corrupt cache. You could also try to remove the data of the media library

Has anybody managed to move their google music to the external SD card. I tried one script but couldn't figure out how to edit it. Any help would be much appreciated.
I'm assuming youre rooted? Install foldermount from the play store. You can move google music to the sd card so the app and all its data end up there. It puts symlinks wjere it would have been on the phone so that everything just gets redirected (so to speak) to the sd.

Thanks. I think I did it right. Cached music would be in android/data/com.google.music/cache i'm guessing
Here is a decent tutorial with rom toolbox https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYFw9bEAzM8
thanks for the tip! worked like a champ for me... the only thing I did not mentioned in that video was copying over my current cache before removing the music folder in the default loaction
Yes, was rooted and worked like a charm.
which option did you try? I'm having issues with both.

I first tried the folder mount method but I think I used the wrong source folder and it didn't work. Then I tried using rom toolbox and followed the instructions on the video and it looks like it worked.
using foldermount, I think i got the right folder. i get it setup and all but just doesn't seem to work. I tried the shortcut method with rom toolbox, and when I try to create my shortcut at the original folder location I get an error. Something about can't not create link. Some filesystems and sdcards are unable to use symlinks.....something like that. Fixing to try again and will get complete message.
Odd thing though. I don't know what i've done, but I'm trying to do this with spotify, The data used to be under android, data.... but now its not. I've got some kinda shortcut set up because I can erase my sd card and reboot and information come back. Will have more details shortly.
