How the heck do you keep this thing from going to sleep in the vehicle dock? I am coming from a Bionic and it NEVER used to do this...grrrrrrrr (frustrated)
And "smart actions" will not fix this issue...
neither will keep screen on while charging...
Running ICS 4.0.4

That's really strange. I have the nav dock as well and the screen only dims to keep it from overheating and burning the amoled.
And if that's not annoying enough, VZ navigator keeps popping up every time i put the phone in the dock
I just disabled vz navigator. Never used it so disabled it.
I have the same frustration. Does the Razr have a magnetic sensor that identifies when it's in dock? i don't have a Motorola dock but my Droid 1 had such a sensor.
I cannot make Tasker solve this issue either. I have tried setting it up to stay on when in motion, when connected to BT audio, connected to USB and neither Smart Actions or Tasker will keep the display on. It's maddening.

UPDATE: I can only successfully keep the screen on when I have no screen lock at all. I suppose I can create a Tasker profile that will disable screen lock when connected to USB charging or when BT audio is connected.
This is a new feature with ICS. I never had this problem on GB. It does not happen all the time either and I have not figure out why it sometimes sleeps in car dock and other times does not. Also annoying with ICS is that home button does not take you to car home, but to regular home screen. Only way I have found to get to car home after hitting home button is to undock and redock.

I'm looking for a possible app that can automatically lock the phone regardless of what it is doing. I use the MHL to HDMI cable to output to my tv when I'm in bed and I like to watch shows to put me to sleep.
The thing is when the cable is plugged in, the phone's screen never turns off because it would turn off the tv display as well. The display just goes dim when it's idle. I can manually lock it and it will shut off, but I would like something that can send a lock command or a power off command after a certain amount of time, sorta like a sleep mode.
I don't like having my phone screen's stay on until morning even though it's staying fully charged. It's usually pretty warm when I wake up. Is there any way this can be done?
Maybe it could be done with tasker? https://market.android.com/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm&feature=search_result
I gave it a try and it seems like a really nice app, but I couldn't find a way to command it to lock or turn off the phone. There were 2 options I saw called "lock" and "system lock" and I tried both but nothing happened when the specified event occurred.
I'm tempted to try the HDMI on my Galaxy Tab 10.1, but I'm thinking it would remain on as well if plugged in. Thanks for the suggestion though.
is this possible? and if so, how? i've tried a few apps from the market, but they didn't seem to work
Why? Do you hate your phone so much, you need a quick way to burn in the screen?
Actually, while it's in my car dock and I'm using google maps, or any music, it's hard to see the screen after it dims, esp. when driving with my convertible top down in the daytime.

Have you tried STAYAWAKE? Keeps screen on while plugged in to any source that charges.
the screen stays on already... but it still dims until i touch the screen again.
Use Tasker - it's more complicated than most apps, but it gives you tons more control over your phone too.
Just remember to both turn off auto-dim as well as turn your brightness up for the "plugged in" event or it won't work properly if you use tasker!
I have a setting for plugged and unplugged, as well as at home (in range of my wireless SSID) and away. So my GPS turns on when plugged in and away, but not plugged in at home. But my display is set up the way you want as well - and mine increases the display timeout too.

The accelerometer on my Razr Maxx works promptly and perfectly except under two conditions. The first -- if I'm lying down, say on a couch or in bed, and holding the device over my head facing down. In this position the device will almost immediately shut off over and over. It won't reboot, just shut down. I can always restart it the same way I would from any "sleep". I can get the device to stay on merely by rotating it to face "up" no matter whether I change position or location or run or do not run any particular application. Is this common? Is it by design for some reason? The second -- if I have Button Savior installed, the Maxx accelerometer will work but there will be a significant delay in responding. Like 15-30 seconds delay! No Button Savior - no delay. Install Button Savior - delay. Uninstall Button Savior again - no delay. This troubles me as I really like Button Savior even on devices that have "hard" buttons. Having these controls right under my thumb is the fastest way to navigate, for me. Button Savior (updated) works perfectly for me on other Android phones, on my rooted Nook Color (CM7), even on my rooted Nook Touch. Any cures for either ill?
Hi
The accelerometer issue... does this happens from the first day you bought it? I trying searching similar issues, could not find anything. I am almost sure it is physical defect of some kind, you should probably take it back for replacement.
I don't know if the accelerometer issue related to Button Savior began when I first installed the app (as opposed to coming from a particular app update, for instance) as it took a long process of elimination to find the connection. As to the "upside down" issue I believe it has always done that. However -- it only does it if I TURN ON the device while it is upside down. If I start using it facing up, say watching a video, and then turn it upside down the video continues to play flawlessly. Bizarre!
I know there is an option to use the light sensor to detect when your phone is in your pocket, and turn off. Maybe it's on on your phone, and it's detecting lower light when you flip it over and shutting the screen off?
ok, so i misunderstood the issue, i thought the phone turns off completely...
if it only goes into "silent" or "lock" mode... maybe you installed some kind of app that does that when you flip? or maybe your player has one of those settings? like... say you are in a meeting, with your phone on the table, it rings... you just flip it and it goes silent.... some android build have that as a default setting already...
here, check this so u understand better what i mean :

tried updating yet? i had the same problems prior to the 65.1.40 update
I'm running a Droid4 with ICS and use it with the Motorola car dock. When I'm using the phone on its own, I like having the slide screen lock so I can immediately go to phone, text etc. However, when I'm using the phone in the car dock, I have no use for the screen lock. I generally turn the screen off when driving unless I want to make a call or switch audio tracks. This requires paying attention to the phone for a second or so to make sure I'm sliding the right location which feels unsafe. I'd like to keep the screen lock on normally and not have to manually switch it to none when docked. Is this a built in capability that I'm missing somehow? I didn't see a way to do this with smart actions (which I already use for a couple tasks). Any thoughts?
Until my S4, I have pretty much been a Moto phone owner. I did have a brief fling with a Thunderbolt but that phone was god awful.
Whenever I docked any of my moto devices (D1, Bionic, RAZR MAXX) depending on what kind of dock it went in, the phones would just enter the correct dock mode. I had it set that when in my desktop dock Alarm Clock Plus would come to the front and be the active application. When in car mode, G Maps would become the active app.
I have purchased the official Samsung multimedia desktop dock as well as the official Samsung vehicle dock. When I dock to either of them, nothing special happens at all. The phone will light up the lock screen when it sees the power applied, but aside from that, 30 seconds later the screen turns back off no matter what app is running (exceptions being navigation (not just maps) and alarm clock plus. If in either docks, something like Slacker will run fine but the screen turns off at the defined times. This is not how things worked with any of my motos. This is a rather annoying problem especially with the car dock as I am constantly going to fiddle with the screen to get G Maps back to being visible. I don't like the idea of having to manually change the screen timeout every time I use the phone in my car as I *know* one time I will forget to turn the screen timeout back to normal and when I reach to use my phone the battery will be dead.
Is there a way to get the screen to stay on when docked? Is there a way to have a default app launch when docking in a specific dock? I know I could have disabled whatever sammy program manages the docks, but I have not disabled anything which has dock in the name (not that I even see one).
I have searched the forums, but my lame searches did not turn up anything.
