Galaxy Note SHV-E160 Rom - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Can I post a rom in the Dev section for the Korean Note?
Gingerbread 2.3.6 Pre-Rooted
Port of the original I717 Gingerbread rom but customized
English Language Support
1: Download rom and Odin from the bottom of this post
2: Run Odin
3: Click PDA and select the TAR file
4: Hold down the volume - key and home key and press the power button until the coal mining mode screen appears then press the volume + button to enter the coal mining mode
5: Connect the phone to your computer click start to begin
I did not create this but spent a lot of time testing it. Before anyone says anything about this not being in the Dev section I figured this would be the right place to put it since the rom is not for the Galaxy Note I717 so I am hoping it is in the right place, but if it needs moved I am sorry. I only posted here so I wouldn't have to start a new post in another section since I was already asking a question about where to post this rom at in this thread. I know its not an ICS rom, but its a start. Use at your own risk I am not responsible for your device bricking. It worked well for me so hopefully you will not have any problems either. Also I uploaded it to 4shared.com only but if you want to re-upload it to another site post the link and I will put it in this post. Thanks to Teamleader and all Chinese/Korean devs working on the Galaxy Note SHV-E160 K/L/S variant of our device.

nvm

So eager to try this. I hope there will be more support for this Note variation.

eestite 'The
I understand that there are at least 3 variations of the Korean Note.
SHV-e160S and L and another version. Each one is linked to a different carrier.
To the OP: which version of the Korean note did you cook this ROM for and will it work across all Korean models?
Thanks!

Good question!
And also, to those who were able to root their NOTE (E160S) kindly post the methods that you followed. (ex. Tegrak way, etc..)

How abt some screen shots?

BTW, I was able to root my E160s.

Hi Guys,
I was able to root my Galaxy Note SHV-E160s. I know it is rooted because I can run apps that needs root access. Many Thanks to Tegrak who made this possible. Now the only thing missing is a CUSTOM ROM. Before, they said that it is impossible to upgrade the HTC BlueAngel to Windows 6.5, but it was a success and now an old friend on mine (D-TWO) was able to make android work on it. Before, they said that HTC HD2 can not be upgraded to Android but lookwhere it is right now. Running on ICS and beta JB. Galaxy Note SHV-e160s, is not far from it. If more people will request here, developers will listen. Please let's make this happen.
I want to share how I was able to root my Note (SHV E160s) successfully. All credits goest to Tegrak.

First I downloaded these files
>Tegrak-Kernel-Build-32-for-SHV-E160S-FA09.recovery.tar
>Tegrak-Kernel-Build-32-for-SHV-E160S-FA09.zip
>SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_x86.exe
>SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe
>Odin3_v1.85_intratech.zip
>TEGRAK app https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...WsubGFnZml4Il0.
The Build number of my Note is SHV_E160s_FA09, that's the reason why I'm gonna use the files mentioned above.
1. Installed TEGRAK APP. (look in Google Play)
2. Save Tegrak-Kernel-Build-32-for-SHV-E160S-FA09.zip on my phone. Should be in internal memory /sdcard/tegrak/update folder
3. Save the file Tegrak-Kernel-Build-32-for-SHV-E160S-FA09.recovery.tar in my laptop
4. Installed Samsung USB Drivers
5. run ODIN
6. Turned off the phone and went to download mode (hold power + home button + volume down key)
7. Connected the phone to my laptop
8. Once Odin detected the phone I clicked on PDA and searched for Tegrak-Kernel-Build-32-for-SHV-E160S-FA09.recovery.tar
NOTE: Do not tick on anything, just leave everything the way it is.
9. Click on start....wait....wait...it will tell you when it's done and you phone will automatically boot itself
10. Turn off the phone again.
11. Go to recovery mode (power button + BOTH volume keys0 and once you see the SAMSUNG name, unhold the power button while holding BOTH volume keys. And you will have the recovery mode. You will have two options, select the second one where it says install from ZIP and look for Tegrak-Kernel-Build-32-for-SHV-E160S-FA09.recovery.tar and flash it. Once done, it will reboot your phone.
12. Go to your apps and run Tegrak Kernel App. Tap on Enable rooting. And will then give you a message where it says "Success! done."
Your Samsung Galaxy Note SHV-E160s is now ROOTED.
Try it, run some apps that needs root access.
Now, let's look for a custom ROM!

I was able to root my e160s as well and upgraded it to ICS using tegrak's files (UG06). one last problem i have though is the 80 character limit on sms. Ive tried the workaround from the link below but sadly it doesn't work for ICS (sms workaround working for FA09) any idea how it can be fixed? Thanks!

Good find. My issue with the 80 character SMS is now fix. I just inserted the micro sim to my friends iPhone and edited the "My Phone Number" from there and walaaaaa! Handcent SMS is not working with unlimited SMS characters!

I did install the koxda ROM, its GB, but it doesn't include google.play and wasn't able to run it. (Chinese doesn't need it, they have their own markets). SMS was working perfect on it.
I later installed ICS stock and worked the sms/mms fix, + handcent and myphone number adjustment... this gives you perfect incoming SMS... but SMS sending is limited to 80 characters. I haven't been able to work network Video Calls - even though the phone menu showing the feature. Then again you've got a rooted ICS working otherwise perfect.
@phonephoenix : 3G is working perfect, but you have to add your network detail manually at, w/ mobile networks > mobile netowrks > (add) ACCESS POINT

Samsung Galaxy SII HD LTE root fail

Hi guys really sorry for the noob quesiton here. I was trying root my Galaxy S2 HD LTE that i just got from Korea (I am based in the UK)
Was trying to install ICS on this - not sure I have fubar'ed the device or just that my korean is not up to it, but I cannot figure out what I need to do.
Basically i got to the stage of installing kies, then Odin 1.85, and was following the "Firmware I9100XXLPB Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) for Samsung Galaxy S II I9100" link
Can someone tell me if there is any recovery from here? I have tried to reset the device to no avail.
Im sure i have done something stupid, just not sure if i can recover form it
Thanks
Nim
Contrary to popular n00b belief, the Galaxy S II HD LTE is not an i9100 (it is an SHV-E120S). Therefore, if your can use Odin to restore a stock SGSII HD LTE you are good. Otherwise you have messed up your phone by not using common sense.
I think the install was partially interrupted by kies, which could have saved it.
Why are you using an LTE phone in the UK anyway? We don't have LTE here (yet).
P.S. Your phone does not have an 1.2GHz Exynos CPU, which is (IMHO) tons better than a 1.5GHz snapdragon. That 720p screen is a beast though
there is only way to get your phone working again, u have to flash the proper rom back again , there is no have ICS yet for Samsung II HD LTE SHV-E120S/L . i could upload the rom I'm some place but is too big 964MB so add my Skype be i will find a way to send it to u "raidycv". this rom is already customized by teamleader v1.3 you can send normal sms message even if u are not in korea.
many thanks Raidy - i have sent it for repair, so i think iw ill be ok for now - let me see what turns up and will get back to you. Thanks again for your help
It would be great to get a forum open so we can start stocking up info on the SHV-E120 S/L/K . Currently there is 1 official firmware update which i do not recommend, as it may limit you if you try to root the phone, it also removes the option to disable LTE.

If someone has their phone rooted, could you please save upload your Stock rom here for nimbles/anyone else who bricks ? I updated the official firmware and can't seem to root my SHV-E120K

Help with Ace GT 5830

Hello. I am needing help with the Galaxy Ace GT 5830. My friend took it upon herself to try to update to the CM9 beta and it didn't work out.
I've tried helping her by going back to the stock rom that I found however its really random as to win the rom's installation will be a success. Sometime it will hang on the Samsung logo screen and sometimes it will load in the rom just fine but her phone network will not pick up her carrier. Sometimes it will pick up the carrier but later it will lose the connection.
model: Ace GT 5830 (I assume this is the same as the Ace GT s5830)
kernel: 2.6.35.7-perf-CL882825
[email protected] #21
current rom: update-cm-7-20120602-NIGHTLY-cooper-signed.zip
I've been using Odin 4.38 with an included "TASS_v1.0.ops" file (not sure if that's significant). The phone has clockwork recovery 5 installed on it.
I obtained the stock firmware from the Samsung site:
GT-S5830_NEE_S5830XWKT7_S5830XWKT3_S5830OXFKT1 and it sometimes installed correctly but as I said previously the phone network would rarely work.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? No, she didn't make a backup when she did all this unfortunately
Use cooper.ops. Tass.ops is for galaxy mini. U can succesfully flash ace with that mini's ops amaze me
Next time make sure to understand and know exactly what your're doing before u do something stupid that can hardbrick the poor thing

Hi
I'm the friend in question he was helping
We've since changed back to stock without an issue, however I've now gone from 5830 to 5830D since apparently that is the only Canadian stock ROM we can use with the correct baseband.
CWM however doesn't seem to install with this particular model now, so I'm stumped at how to get it to install when that model is not officially part of the script.
Is there either a stock 5830 (not version D) ROM and/or CWM file that works with the newer version? Sorry I'm completely new at this so sorry if I'm not asking the right questions
baseband doesnt matter these days, unless your're running the ace from latin america which uses different gsm spectrum than the international ace, you can just flash any stock international ace and got all working perfectly fine.
btw the latin america ace also can use international ace rom, just need to reflash the modem afterwards.
try these, flash any stock ace rom, then flash just the modem taken from that rom for your region.
Ok will try that.
I thought the baseband did matter only because when I tried two other stock roms I was unable to connect to the network afterwards, till I found the one using TLKI4, granted we did nothing with flashing the modem.
No, baseband doesnt matter much. I've been running my ace with chinese, russian, europe baseband and didnt find any difference.
But in the case u got constant network drop, maybe your operator need specific modem for your county/region.

Surprisingly it seems this phone is running a leak firmware that is android 4.2.1 and it is a custom rom that you are currently running as we can see in the about phone section which means you phone is rooted( try downloading Root Checker just to check if it is rooted, it should be rooted )
...some custom roms dont have the options of NFC in them so there for you cant use them....try flashing a custom rom with android 4.1.2 ( not the leak Android 4.2.1 and 4.2.2)...that should do it and before that go into your about phone section and scroll down and take a screen shot of the custom roms name and version so that i have an idea of which rom this is

[HELP THREAD] Galaxy S3 Ask any question.

There are a lot of people joining xda on daily basis, and there are a lot of repetitive questions being asked which fill up Development threads. Point them here. Feel free to ask or answer questions. Idea of this thread is to get users to help other users with their problems/questions. Please do not spoon feed, but rather point in the direction where that user can find an answer and educate himself
I don't actually have the GS3 unfortunately, but in order to make XDA a better place, I thought I'd open up a help thread for those who need it. I won't be able to give S3 specific help, but I can help in terms of general questions. Hopefully some of the experienced S3 help out on this thread, because it'd make everything easier. Thanks!
First thing first. I strongly advise you to read THIS thread before posting ANYTHING on XDA.
Then, have a quick look at the names of threads in post no2, you might find what you need right away.
For ROM issues please do mention in your post about:
ROM name
ROM version and base
kernel version and its settings
any mods applied on top of it
flashing "style" aka dirty or clean
something like this
...and be sure you have asked before on the ROM thread unless you have less than 10 posts on XDA
Third. Even if you do get your question answered, please, do come back and read threads in post no2 (coming later as soon as we start getting the guides) to educate yourself. You'll be surprised how much time and frustration it will save you in the future.
ASK ANY QUESTION HERE,adb, drivers, superCID etc...... You will either get an answer or will get pointed in the right direction.
No abuse towards noobs tolerated here! No question is stupid in this thread.
***I feel that a little OT is healthy to the success of this type of thread. The people here who help the most will develop a comradery therefore OT is allowed within reason. Common sense will be applied ***
HALL OF FAME
People who contributed most to this thread and helped countless number of people with their problems/questions. In no particular order.
Currently none. Hopefully soon.
Big thanks to Undercover and Xanthrax for this thread model

Stuck
Hey guys, i'm sort of a noob on these forums so any help would be great!
I've had previous experience with rooting because of my S2, no problems at all. I got my s3 about a month ago and I've been trying to figure out how to root it. It's a GT-I9300T ( Australian model ). It has a lot of Vodafone bloatware, however it's unlocked as i'm using an Optus sim card. I've also read that there aren't many differences between the international model and the T model, so any international ROM should work fine. It's running 4.3. I've read about how KNOX is built into 4.3 and makes rooting difficult by blocking the installation of custom Roms and disabling superSu. I'm not sure if i have Knox though, because i don't have a KNOX app installed; there are no KNOX related apps installed on my phone ( according to the all section of my applications manager ) and it says nothing about the KNOX counter in download mode. Is KNOX still present on my phone, and will i be able to install customs roms?
Also, what would be the best method of rooting? I have tried the saferoot method by Mrw0lf on YouTube, which is made not to trigger Knox. I've read about CF root and other methods involving Odin, have not tried any yet because i'm scared of bricking my phone. Any help or link would be helpful. Also, if something goes wrong; would i be able to flash a stock 4.3 ROM onto my phone using Odin? I'm downloading it now from sammobile and i was wondering if flashing anything through Odin would cause problems.
Lastly, is there a way to backup my EFs before rooting? I can't find them through the default file explorer and the folder is empty in 3rd party ones. I can't seem to find them when i go through my phone on my computer, i just want a backup before i try to root.
Anyway, vital phone info:
Model: GT-I9300T
Version: 4.3
Sorry for the long post, but any help would be cool. Also, i'm not that good with all the technical things behind rooting such as CSCs, basebands and such, so any simple explanation would be nice
Thank you! :fingers-crossed:
Good morning
Dont worry about knox
There no knox for S3 now matter what variant
Now secondly.
U can flash everything from i9300 on your i9300t however its advisable that when u flash roms that u maintain or re-flash afterwards the appropriate modem
As the only difference between models is the band frequency
To root it ... For myself the easyest way is ...
Grab philz recovery
Flash it with Odin
Afterward boot into recovery
Go to advanced and choose re-root system
Then just boot the ROM go to market and download supersu you're good to go
About backup efs there's a loooooot of apps to do so u just need the pick the one who's flavour suit u best
Take care
If u have doubts just pm me

I just rooted my phone using Cf auto root. I forgot the warranty was expired so why not It ended up working, now running CyanogenMod 11 nightly About the modem, the reception seems the same. The signal i got before I rooted wasn't that great, haha. But i'll probably flash the modem anyway, just in case. I found a thread with most of the modems for the s3 here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/ref-galaxy-s3-modem-radio-collection-t1740061
All the modems are for jellybean, however the ROM i'm on ( CyanogenMod 11 ) is on kitkat. Can i flash any of those modems? For the T model, they say there's no regional or carrier specific one, even though i checked my modem on sammobile and it's not listed in the thread. The latest one is for 4.1.2, i'm on 4.4.2. Should i flash it? Also, can you flash it in CWM, or does it have to be through Odin?
Edit: Seeing as you're a fellow S3 user, have you experienced any lag or freezing with your phone? It happened quite a lot pre root, but i just thought it was due to the bloatware. And Touchwiz, haha. But it's happening with CyanogenMod 11 as well. I know that it's a nightly and that bugs are to be expected however i have an S2 running CyanogenMod 11 as well, and there's nowhere near as much lag. Any ideas? I reset the phone and re installed the ROM twice, mainly because i forgot to flash Gapps XD Any ideas? Should i do a full factory reset, free up some space? I know that there's 2gb left on both the phone and my SD card.
Anyway, thanks for all of your help so far!

If u flashed cm u have retained same modem so no need to update modem
Just leave it be.
About lag no my phone runs just good no matter what aosp or recent stock rom
Check your kernel config or go for a custom one a and set him up to what suits u best.
I use agni kernel on cm alongside with a optimised profile
And even with a UV of CPU and GPU my phone runs real smooth and saves juice

ive got experience with flashing custom roms and know how to do it but im quite paranoid which is why i have this question. Im currently running foxhound 2.4 on S# GT-i9300 with siyah kernel and i want to flash slimkat 4.4.2 build 3. i was just wondering if siyah kernel will get in the way of the flashing. Will i need to flash stock kernel then flash slimkat/gapps or does slimkat have install its own kernel in which case i guess i should just flash normally.

I think you should probably full wipe before flashing another rom. Then you should be good to go to flash slimkat and gapps.

SD Issues ? backwards "u"
My Wife is on her 2nd SD card with the same issues. I copy all of her pics and some videos from her move them to the Sd card. When going into my files it says there is 500+gbs on it! The file path extsdcard/Android has 467 gbs and 471 folders. Then there is a data folder but the D in data is a backwards u then ata. This folder says it is 467gbs with all folders named with crazy looking characters. I did try and search forums but could not find where to post and didn't want to get yelled at by the "Geniuses" on here for posting in the wrong place or not searching well enough. So if u could please get me to the right place it would be much appreciated. All the files are pics and vids of kids and thankfully we have auto backup in with google otherwise it seems we would lose all photos and vids. Thanks. Please see attached pics for reference
S3 4.0.4 stock rom
I had installed android 4.3 on s3 but then I installed 4.0.4 after that I had no gsm connectivity see the block sign between battery and wifi. I have gsm connectivity on 4.3 but not on 4.0.4. A guy told me that it has something to do with the bootloader. I wish to install 4.0.4 stock ICS BTU rom if there's a way do tell me. Thanks in anticipation!
i am using GlamourS4 5.0 rom and googy max2 kernel
the first problem i have is when i pressed the emergency call button on the lockscreen,
it did show anything such as the keyboard and the signal will stop a few seconds and come back.
second, i found the nfc not working anymore in my phone.
the nfc and s beam tag are greyed when i try to turn them on.
can anyone can solve my problems?
Anyone for my weird Network problem...?
I recently rooted my S3 via the CF Root method. Flashed CWM Recovery 6.0.4.4 via Odin.
That's it.
And now this weird problem-
My network is lost anytime! And the phone even doesn't say "Not registered on network" or something like that!
My phone was working properly and suddenly a friend of mine messaged me that he tried calling me but it said that my phone was switched off! I also noticed that at time even the data connection was not working. NO! It's not that it didn't show it isn't connected to the network or the data is disabled! The signal in the status bar was of 4 bars as it is and there was this symbol of 3G beside it. I tried calling my friend but the call got cancelled! I redialed, I didn't hear anything and then again the vibration saying the call was cancelled! I called up on my S3 through my landline number which also said that it was switched off -but not immediately. Whenever someone called me, they didn't hear anything for a long time of a minute or two and THEN it said that my mobile was switched off. I tried selecting my network operator manually, it said 'Registered on Network' but still I couldn't receive or make calls or use my internet data. But I could always send or receive SMSs!! It means it was connected to my network. The only solution was to reboot the phone after which it worked fine for a few hours. FOR FEW HOURS ONLY!
Now it happens at least 2-3 times per day and it has been important for me to check whether the data connection actually working and I'm able to access the internet or not because that's the only way to find whether someone can call me or not!
How do I fix this? I'm having my exams now and I don't have time to setup my phone again by changing ROMs!
Please tell me a way to fix this without changing my ROM!
I'm on Android 4.3 Stock ROM.
Unable to download Add on on Triangle Away V 3.26 even i do have Internet
Does anyone experience this message on Triangle Away V 3.26. "A fatal error occured while downloading the package. Please make sure you have a connection to the internet and try again later." ("I do have Internet Connection")
Google search question
Hello everyone.
I have noticed a strange behaviour of Google search after flashing SlimKat 3.9 and 3.10. Settings for search applications and contacts on the phone are gone. Is it a new update from Google or a bug? Fresh install didn't help. Screenshot attached.

Gpu for I9300 is ARM Mali 400 MP, as far as I know.

Could be to do with the EFS partition. 4.3 uses a different version and apparently problems can occur when trying to revert to an earlier version. As far as I have read elsewhere, the problem can be verified by checking the IMEI number in settings - if it is all zeros it has been corrupted and will cause what you describe. I'm afraid I don't have a solution but hopefully this info might help you move a bit closer to one.
Another SlimKat question. According to battery stats, it seems that my wi-fi is always on. I've used 3g only since last charge and wi-fi is off in settings. Can it be helped somehow? Screenshot attached.

Step-by-step procedure to flash Revolutionary HD ROM to Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300

Hi All,
I successfully root my Samsung Galaxy S3 I-9300 (UK version) last week, now I am trying to install a ROM (based on your reviews I'm going to try the Revolutionary HD), but I couldn't find detailed instructions on how to do it for this phone. I did this process few years ago with my HTC desire, so I'm not totally ignorant of the process. I reviewed the "[Q] Safe Guide to Root and Add Custom best ROM to Samsung Galaxy S3 GT19300 unrooted" but it looks to me that it is developed for Nexus and other phones (the main procedure with no doubt is very similar for sure), but would it be possible to have a detailed procedure for this phone? Starting from what software should I use to do which backups before proceeding.
Apologies if this had been already explained somewhere in this site, maybe I'm just too tired today, but I couldn't find it.
Warmest regards!
Pegaso
Did you mean Revolution HD?
Found this step by step: Install Android Revolution HD v40.0 on Galaxy S3 I9300 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Custom ROM.]]
But you should install the latest: [ROM] Android Revolution HD 52.0.
And I would use TWRP instead of CWM - TWRP I9300.
Or at least PhilZ - [i930x][CWM Advanced Edition] PhilZ Touch. It is not being maintained anymore but will work well for now,
How to verify partition location for TWRP
Segio,
Thanks for your quick response.
I used TWRP instead of CWM as you suggested, installed & run the app following the instructions in:
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/114
after selecting the phone model some files are downloaded and then I get the following message from TWRP: "Ensure the partition listed below is the correct one for your device. If you do not verify this then you risk bricking....../dev/block/mmcblk0p6" No / Yes
How can I verify that? Is it safe to proceed?
Warmest regards
Done!
Sergio,
Thanks!, with your help I was able to figure out how to install Revolution HD in my Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300.
It looks great!
Thanks again!

Good to know everything went ok. Next step will be to try an AOSP Rom.
Take a look at: [ROM][Sep 13][4.4.4] I9300 AOSP NeatROM v8.0.

Sure!
But for the time being I need to figure out how to root & install a ROM (stock-like) to my wife's Samsung Galaxy 4, she's complaining that it is going slowly. I'll take a look soon.
Just by chance, can you direct me to a tutorial to support that model? We got it in UK, so it is probably the international version of it, need to check though, but what ROM would you recommend? I saw in the forum that Revolution HD its not even mentioned (does it support that model at all?!)
Warmest regards!

Hi All!
Few hours after installing Revolution HD my phone lost the ability of making calls! (quite annoying!), the calls just drop few seconds after hitting the "send" key, no income calls either. Any clues? Please anyone...
Rgds!

Quick update,
I flashed again the ROM, but this time I didn't select the options to make it extra-fast (don't remember the screen name, but it was the only one where you have the chance of making choices) and now it resurrected! I can make & receive calls (for the time being!).
I'll be bothering soon anyway to install other ROMs (AOSP NeatROM seems nice).
By the way, and just if it easy to explain... why do you guys talk of "internal" and "external" microSD cards? As far as I understand there is one slot for mSD cards and I always understand that this is called "external", is there a part of the internal memory of the phone that acts like a "inetrnal" mSD card? If that's the case how to I locate it?
I hope this will just take a brief explanation...
Warmest regards!
Internal SD is a partition of internal memory where data as photos, maps, screenshots, etc are kept. Some apps store backups and large data there.
It will survive a "wipe data" but will not survive a "factory reset".
Double check your S 4 model before flashing, but it is probably a GT-I9505 (international Version).
If you want to keep samsung touchwiz flash [ROM][KitKat][12/09][GNH7 V3.1] WanamLite Fast & Clean.
Or go directy to an AOSP rom: [ROM] SlimSaberKat-jflte-4.4.4-20140921 [unofficial SlimKat builds] for jflte.
.
Sergio,
Quick update. I was able to re-stock to the original Samsung firmware using ODIN, so I recovered full functionality.
I can confirm that the model is S3 I9300.
Made a backup using TWRP
I realized that I flashed the wrong (or at least out-dated) version of Revolution HD, I got the one you suggested above:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/rom-android-revolution-hd-52-0-android-t1797334
But when flashing it the MD5 sum check failed. I downloaded it again but same results.
Any clues?
