Jig from s2 work with s3? - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

Has anyone that has rooted and tripped the counter tried a jig that worked with the s2 for clearing the counter?
I haven't seen a clear answer.

Saw this asked before and was said it doesn't. There are ones now online that say for s3 but don't know if it works

I have the jig from my s2 works. But only download mode does not reset timer.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium

So the jig just prevents you from having to press all the buttons to enter d/l mode? Seems pretty convenient, and less wear and tear on your buttons too. Win/Win

From what understand on Note, the counter is reset by flashing a bootloader. Which one,i have no idea. Proceed carefully if you start trying to flash bootloaders. Its an easy way to turn your phone into a paperweight

Jig?

Has anyone found a seller for a jig yet? I hear some cappy jigs work, mine didn't.

While I know I could hack together one, I figured I'd order one online that has worked with Galaxy S II's I ordered mine from here today, and it should arrive within 5 days. Cheapest price I found and well, doesn't hurt to try. As soon as I get it, I will do a rooting of my device and check unless CM7 gets released (non-nightlys) by then.

Mine came from ebay seller "mipick22".
I think he stated that it was tested on both phones. Mine works on both, reset my SGS 2 counter and yellow triangle.
Amazon
Any confirmation that the one from Amazon works?

They are typically used for flash ROMs (boot your phone directly into download mode) regardless what your phone state is (bricked or note). If you never flash ROMs, you don't need this.
You can also flash ROMs without this jig. But on GS2, there is a flash counter and warning icon if you flashed anything but stock ROMs. This jig let you reset that counter as well.
It comes handy if you flash ROM often.

I know when I plugged the jig into my cappy, I didn't need any type of button Combo for dl mode. But I just read someone used their old cappy jig with the sgs2. They held volume up/down, THEN plugged it in. So ill try that when I get home.

Some people's old jigs are working, some aren't.
My guess is the GS2 is less forgiving than the Cappy to variance in the resistor values. As I understand it, 300k was good enough for most Cappys, but for the GS2, it may have to be 301k.
As the link from naturefreak I bought mine from MobileTechVideos for my captivate and it worked in my att SGS2 also. His is WAY BETTER than the one I made.

Kind of a loss here. I have a At&T Galaxy note that I rooted and put clock work recovery mod on.

The answer to everything is not 'get a replacement'. The guy above asking if download mode is accessible is spot on.
Provided you can get in there, reflashing a stock package for the i717 isn't impossible and should restore full functionality.
Best of luck
You can always try the Samsung Jig, it still works on my Note.

Download mode is not only if the phone powers on.
there maybe other things going on. the DL mode is a completely valid question. and i hope that he can.
a jig may work as well, i had luck with home made jigs from resiters. with about the 301 of resistance. but that was not for the note.

Yeah you wanted an i717 ROM instead if you can't get into recovery or download mode you have a hard brick and JTAG is really your only option. If you have access to a computer try Odin or kies as a last resort but I'm pretty sure your bricked sorry.

If can not get in download mode, No one can save you here. The usb jig is your only hope you have. Or send it out to get repaired.
If you flash the wrong rom your phone needs JTAG service. You can send it from Nigeria using DHL and pre-pay the JTAG guy at www.mobiletechvideos.com. The JTAG is $50 but I don't know the shipping cost.

You're mean
I don't know for sure, but I would imagine if it didn't flash, the counter won't trigger and he'll be OK. That's why I asked about the recovery - if it's still stock the flash probably didn't take. If it is a custom recovery, it probably means that the flash took and borked his phone...that would be the case where I would think he could expect a hefty phone bill when they catch on...
Well they would charge him for shipping the new phone checking the old phone, won't be pretty lol. This is what you get for just diving into flashing formware , I read the topic he flashed from and I knew it wasn't good for our phone yet it wasn't ported to i777 so there's no way I'd flash that.

Your phone was totally recoverable. In my view, you should have taken responsibility for your actions, and stayed with the issue till you fixed it.
It's a shame, and just plain wrong, when people abuse the warranty to get a new phone for free when the problem was due to their own actions. It's like stealing. From my time in the forum, however, it seems to be rather common behavior. I even see a post from time to time where one person advises another to do this.
At least AT&T/Samsung wind up with a phone which can be repaired and resold.
And now, since you sent them an I777 which boots to stock I9100 recovery, you will have a month or two of existential anxiety while you wait to see if they charge you full price for the phone, as written in their warranty.

Oh goodie! You messed up your phone and got AT&T to fix it by giving you a new phone, the cost of which they can easily pass on to their other users.:good:
If u screw up yer phone, and u don't want to bother with trying to get "technical" and figure it out, there is a good chance this cycle will repeat itself. I would suggest taking a few days and just pouring over all information available here on how to do things and getting things properly understood before u go about flashing again.

[Q] hard bricked or what? help plz! :'(

Hi!
I have the samsung galaxy note i717, a few days ago the phone shutted down by itself while i wasn't ussing it, it read online that it was too much apps. i did the soft and hard reset and i had the same issue, so i read the next step was a factory reset. so i did it, and wipe the cache. after that, the phone started to reboot/restart by itself while i wasn't using it or wasn't charging... i did the factory reset, reboot it and even reinstalled it the firmware again on kias, but, the problem keep happening. today i left it charging for a long time and the phone won't turn on, it doesn't even show the battery logo, no download mode, no safe mode, no reset mode... and i think it is hard bricked. i read about jtag, changing the motherboard, or use a jig... i want to know what u guys think about this... i bought it on ebay and i would have to return the phone otherwise, so i'm trying to fix it by myself...

JTAG is for a phone with the rom from another phone flashed to it. You can't enter recovery and Odin doesn't recognize it. It is the only way to bypass the boot and flash the correct rom.
Jig is for phones that won't go into recovery by software or buttons.
I think you have a battery issue. Trade with someone, then you will probably need the jig ($3.00 from ebay) to get into recovery.
well guys thanks a lot! but, i took it somewhere and the dude changed the battery nothing hapened and he told me i should just return it and i did. i loved that cellphone!

Before I Do Anything, Jig

Hey guy,
I recently bricked my phone and sought assistance first before I came to this. I have "hard bricked" my phone so i'm only left with two options: jig it or jtag it. Of course since the former is cheaper, I wanted to try that first, and if that fails, I will jtag. My question is where can I find a jig for the galaxy note I717? Help would be appreciated!

That is completely not true.
A jig is not, and never was, intended to fix a hard brick.
It first made its appearance with the galaxy s 1 variants because certain bootloaders would disable all button combos, making an easily fixable bootloop (soft brick) a much more tricky situation, so it was discovered that shorting pins 4 and 5 on a usb board with 301k ohms would force download mode ON A PHONE THAT WASN'T HARD BRICKED.
When the galaxy s2 was released, it was discovered that the jig not only forced download mode, but reset the flash counter as well.
On the note, it will force download mode if you're in a bootloop but not reset the flash counter, however the button combos should always work on a note with working bootloaders so the jig is superfluous.
Also, the resistors used play a role in whether the jig will do anything.
My jig boots download mode on my old captivate and my note, but the resistance is out of tolerance on my brother in law's galaxy s2 and does nothing.
Tl;Dr: jigs work for the purpose they were intended to.
i recently hard bricked and paid mobiletechvideo to jtag it for me. back like new
