Dear Masters,
Being new to this Forum and being a newbie for Android I just want to ask few basic questions like:
1) What is rooting?
2) What changes rooting makes?
3) What is a ROM?
4) What is a Kernel?
5) What is difference between ROM & Kernel?
Hope this silly questions are not annoying to u. :fingers-crossed:

rooting gives You access to system files. When You have root You can use such software as titanium backup etc. but You have to be careful because deleting one file can lead to bootloop. It doesn't make any visible changes. ROM is just like OS on computer.Kernel is just a kind of connection between software and hardware. Whenever any app wants to use the device it sends requests to kernel.

What is difference between ROM and Kernel?
hi
i myself googled it (kernel) that is and what i found was something like this
the kernel itself is what controls all the processes, inputs (hardware and software inputs), controles the fysic and virtual memory etc etc.
and the rom itself (this is with out goggling could be wrong) is the software like compared to your pc it would be windows, linux, etc
hope ths helped had to translate so hope you understand!

your questions are absolutely not silly, but you might have tried looking by yourself first, if only to demonstrate a minimal effort on your side,
some of the links in this post, while directed to someone else, could give you few additional places to check (like xda wiki, and slang/definitions thread)

But I created this thread so that I can ask other questions here at a single place to you masters. As in googling there are many replies and I was not able to make it sure which was the correct. I count xda developers to be the best and always correct.

Question
Dear Masters,
Thanks for such a valuable replies to my questions, I would like to ask you some more questions related to the same topic as:
1) Is it adviced to root the unrooted phone?
2) Should we change the existing Kernel?
3) If the rooting causes void in Warranty, why the company itself would allow the unlocking of Bootloader?
Sorry, but as I said, I consider xda developers' answers to be the best and correct.

1) personal preference... If you do use lot of apps that need root permission and if you like trying out different roms then root is recommended
2) Again check out what the other kernel gives you extra... If the features of the new kernel are pleasing then it doesn't harm you to flash it
2)Why? Dunno why... But if you know how to root and flash roms then you would know that you can always flash stock rom and you will be unrooted and your device will be as good as new without any root trace...

1) Some apps required root access. If you don't need them, you don't have to get rooted. All custom roms have root.
2) Kernel goes with Rom very often. If your phone works fine, you can change kernel only for experimentation.
3) You can always return stock Rom with no harm to warranty))
Early I feared to install custom roms, but then I studied this theme and understood

You could have flashed a custom ROM withOUT rooting. Indeed, there are several custom ROMs that come already rooted.
EDIT: Sorry, ignore the above sentence. I'm mistaken. You need root. My bad.
Sorry, but in my opinion, you went backwards on this. You rooted for the sake of rooting, then wondered "what can I do now that I have root?", instead of rooting because you needed to do something that required root. But I digress, and I'll get off my soapbox now.
That said, several apps that require root that I like are DroidWall (control what apps can access the internet via 3g and/or wifi), SixAxis Controller (use a ps3 controller on your phone - great for emulators), AdAway (ad blocker), Chainfire 3D (for Tegra only compatible games), Root Explorer (essential for tweaking files in system folders), Startup manager (control what apps are allowed to start when the phone boots), Titanium Backup (backup/restore applications and their data, freeze apps), and SetCPU (undervolt/overclock/change governors/etc).
First of all i rooted for the apps that need rooting like titanium and some other apps.
Second, indeed for flashing because i always thought it was essential. (saw your edit)
Third, i read some things about security issues (dataleaks fe.)and thought i had to root to solve them.
Maybe i'm totally wrong but as i said before there is so much info that its hard to pick the right things out of the topics.
Thanx for your help. Learning more everyday

Flashing roms two methods ODIN or CWM and now MOBILE ODIN .
If you want to flash a custom rom you read that roms install instructions no more and no less .
Most but not all custom roms are flashed via CWM
CWM requires root and CWM install .
Root + CWM .

this one: CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEF_KJ2-v4.4-CWM4.zip
or this one: CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEF_KJ2-v5.0-CWM5.zip
Or am i reading it wrong?
KJ2 might as well take v5 CWM

And what about the unroot part? Do i need to unroot first and then CF-root?

voila
I guess what you mean is how to start right?
maybe:
1. download the rom you'd like to go for and copy it to SD card
2. download the kernel flash using Flashtool
3. install the rom using Recovery
whether OC or not depends on the kernel, so watch out and pick up the right one.
Hey,
So I upgraded my Samsung Galaxy S II I9100 to ICS 4.0.4 before 1-2 months. The new graphics and extra features looked really great at first, but 2 hours after using it on normal applications (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter.) It froze and did nothing, like literally just freezes at the screen it lagged on. This has been happening continuously for the past 2 months and I'm really sick of it, I upgraded my phone and my dad's one (both SGS2I9100) using Samsung Kies, ever since that, it just keeps freezing like 4 times a day and I have to take off my battery and re-put it so it can reset since nothing will do this.. The old the firmware I had was the really amazingly going well and never lagged even once (I can't remember which firmware though). I'm a total noob, I didn't and don't have my phone rooted or some stuff like that, expect downloading APKs off the internet lol.
I really want someone to help me in this, I know there must be a solution since I don't think I'm the only one who has been annoyed by this, specially when it happens on a daily routine. I searched over the forums and found nothing. I know there must be something talking about the issue but I'm too nooby to understand the article titles which might be a solution of my problem.
Please help me in my problem it really bothers me and xda is my last hope...
Thank you all.
Note: please use simple terms because I really won't understand, and if you do, please teach me them lol.
Well, first of all your up for some reading.
While you go from thread to thread you'll run into the world of ROMs and flashing.
The first thing you have to know is that your device comes with 4 things:
1) Hardware (dah)
2) Kernel (link between Hardware & OS)
3) ROM (OS)
4) Modem (Baseband for your country / Region)
You are actually on 4.0.4, It's Kernel is known to suffer the brick bug issue.
Flashing is used to get the best from your device, in relation to your personal user experience. You got plenty of options like Stock Roms and Custom Roms, as well as Stock Kernels and custom kernels.
When flashing stock roms you get the chance to get rid of your carrier stuff (bloatware and animation boot) by getting an unbranded ROM (samsung official stock rom), you can either go down to previous versions (Gingerbread, ICS 4.0.3) or even go up (Jelly bean leaked ROM). Carrier branded or not, it's just a matter of choice.
When flashing custom roms you get a whole lot of roms to choose from. The most common are CyanogenMod (CM), RR (revolution remix), Omega and etcetera. These roms take the best of the stock roms and leave the worst, so you'll get a more personalized experience.
When Flashing custom kernels your trying to get the best performance for your ROM, this means you can use a stock ROM with a custom kernel.
Modems are basebands that let your carrier network function in your region / country, so if you flash a modem, your network might not work, so you'll have to flash another modem and so on.
Check all that out and if you decide to go on flashing, we are here to help you on the easiest / safest way to do it.
rembember to read and re-read all first.
you did notice this is now your official post right?
Okay I kinda get it, can you kindly please send me links that will help my problem? I'd rather downgrade with Stock ROM than a costum one.
Another thing, will it affect anything that has to do with my Carier? and does my phone have to be rooted in order this to work? If so how can I?
Many thanks.

I'd personally advice you to get 4.0.3 stock ROM. What's you carrier? I could look it up for you while you learn about flashing/downgrade.

I need you you to tell me how do it too please

When the guy doesn't read it was a good advice to start doing it, because it's not really allowed to ask everything that is allready asked so many times.
When he actually does read, but doesn't understand (which I don't think because he's asking basic question about steps he must take) then it's maybe better to rethink if he's really going to flash something because he doesn't know what he's doing

Why don't you just flash a stock rom through Odin? No offence but I'm serious, the lack of knowledge you show here by asking about Recovery to me seems to be a sign you shouldn't root it at all, and learn a whole lot more about flashing and more if you want to.

Stock Kernel - i777UCKK6
Stock Rom - 2.3.6 - Gingerbread
I've read that many people are having problems on galaxys2root.com and have even bricked their phone by Installing wrong kernels.
So can you please tell me which Kernel i should flash ?

It's best to stay away from that site entirely. The site developer has multiple similar sites for many different phones, and apparently does it for the money, and is not really very good at helping people. Also, while he is a developer, his products sometimes, as you mentioned, cause severe problems.

It's best to make your own choice. The best roms are available on these xda forums. If you don't like the first one you try, you can always switch.

Some of the JellyBean based roms will. SHOstock3 will. Most of the others won't. If that happens, you can unlock it again for free with GalaxSim Unlock, as long as you download it from the developers thread and not purchase it on the market.

If you aren't willing to search and read thoroughly you can't expect support here. If we're willing to go out of our way to help and explain things we sure as heck expect you to do the same for your own questions before posting.

Hey, why don't you read Creepy's stickies for once? It's got everything you need. Without reading the stickies you won't follow the tips properly even if someone spoon feed you.
Hi Creepy, thanks for the wonderful tutorials. I have an unlocked 777 and rooted with that stickies only.
On a side note, ShoStock 3 will not cause loosing the unlock status for every devices. I haven't lost my unlock status after flashing ShoStock 3.
