I deleted apps using TitaniumBackup, I think that's what broke it. I was rooted, but I did an unroot in superuser before trying to install the update.
I just started a factory wipe for starters. Guess I'll need to recover an exact stock configuration, which is .181 right?
Google Matt's 1.6 utility to get back to stock. Install included drivers first.

Yes removing Bloat is known to break updates, like said before use matts DroidRazrUtility 1.6 to fastboot back to .181 then root and install voodoo OTA using the utility then in voodoo, backup root and temp unroot, then OTA, then open voodoo and restore root, and you'll be laughing.:laugh::laugh:
I keep getting a failed install and i didnt delete any bloat apps
I was rooted and managed to keep root and install OTA successfully... didn't lose anything or use any apps to keep root or anything like that no idea how it happened.

If you have Bootstrap or Safestrap open that app in your app drawer and use the uninstall feature. then make sure you have your temp unroot enabled and run the update.... I just figured it out...
(UPDATE)
Just finished installing up update, rebooted (took a while) into ICS. Nice new lock screen, root restored.
(UPDATE)
Text massager got ugly...
i am rooted and have used voodoo to save root but i dont hv any bootstrap or safetstrap in my apps.
wud having titanium backup and other root apps make any difference to the installation of OTA ?

Still no ICS *Update Failed*
I have my Droid Razr Maxx Rooted with Stock ROM no removed bloat just frozen using TB. Unfroze all apps and tried to accept the OTA and I keep getting "install failed." I do not have the Safestrap app installed. I tried using MattsTool v 1.7 ICS to side load as mentioned by a few people, but I cannot get the drivers to install correctly. I've tried directly from Moto, the drivers provided in various tuts but not luck. When I go to go through the process I get hung up on "waiting on device". I am using MAC but going through WIN using parallels.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks..
if it fails anyway to go to the install and start from there? where is it at?

Use Matt's 1.6 to flash back to stock. Then try OTA. That's what worked for me.

I was unrooted with the latest update (prior to ics) but super user was still installed. Update failed. I rooted and used Matt's utility to flash back to .181. Update failed. Realized I was still rooted so I used the utility to unroot and the update is still failing. I downloaded and updated the drivers from Motorola prior to flashing back. Ill try the update again with text tomorrow and let you know what it says. Any help would be appreciated.

You can still update even when u root.
You must have deleted some bloatware.. Check back if u removed anything

I never removed anything and I even defrosted everything before the last update. I haven't even had root between the last update and ics.
Then share with us the exact error message..

Would doing the mobile hotspots hack thru sqlite not allow the OTA to install? Because when the OTA is finished it just says fail to install. It doesn't give any reason as to why it failed.

I just tried to update my maxx and it failed too. Downloads fine, reboots to install update, and a third oftheway it reboots saying that the update failed. I also have done the SQL hack and also unfrooze all frozen apps.
I have the same problem. I got the message "The software update failed!" after doing the OTA today. I temp removed root with RootKeeper and did the Uninstall Recovery for Safestrap before downloading the OTA and then uninstalled Safestrap completely after the first failure. During the upgrade after the initial reboot the progress bar goes about 1/3 of the way, shows a triangle with an exclamation point inside of it, and then reboots and the error message appears with no other error details. I have a stock RAZR with the latest 6.11.748 installed with no deleted or frozen bloat. The only things I did were root and installed and ran Safestrap.
---------- Post added at 09:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:47 PM ----------
I backed out the sqllite hotspot hack just for jollies and same error so it definitely has nothing to do with that.
It's not rooting and freezing.
I did both of those and I didn't unfreeze or unroot before taking the update.
Safestrap is the issue.
I uninstalled Safestrap before the download. You think it could still be the problem?
well i dont have safestrap or bootstrap just rooted and titanium so i dont know what the problem is
I had the same problem. What software are you guys running? You guys need to go to droidrzr.com and theres instructions on how to get back on the update path.
Here's the Links.
http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...-go-back-to-stock-full-fast-boot-files-added/
This was recommended to me by Kelmar on Androidforums and it fixed my problem:
Try unrooting and fastbooting back to .748. Reroot, run OTA keeper then run update again.
I went from .181 and jumped to .210 ICS. I used rootkeeper and tried to restore the root. I already had the superuser.apk installed and when i used rootkeeper it said root was restored, but when i use root apps it does not work and the rootkeeper also tells me i do not have root access.
WHAT GIVES?
Sorry I can be more help. Did you uninstall super user and re load? I know there is a manual ADB push method that I used but you would have to use the search.
i tried uninstalling it and it wont let me

Hmmm. It is probably installed as a system app. Maybe you didn't update su binary before root backup? Try temp unroot and root with RAZR utility.

Ok where do i start? Gonna try and be brief as possible. So today i was gonna update to ICS ota. I uninstalled safestrap first cause i was gonna reinstall the ics version using the Razr Utility ver. 1.7, as well as use to reroot. After i uninstalled the safestrap app i tried to install the ota i just took. Well it failed. I rebooted my phone and the Safestrap (SS) splash screen still popped up. I tried to reinstall the SS app using Razr Utility 1.6 (that i used to install in the first place) and it failed saying "failed to find path" or something similar. Weird caused it worked to install before. So now i cant get the SS app back to try and uninstall the actual recovery. Make sense? I was gonna try and load a Nandroid, but it was made back when i was still on .173. Can i go back to .173 and then reupdate to .181 and try again? Can anyone help me sort this out? I know its a lot to swallow Thanks in advance to anyone willing.
Edit: I am a moron. Trying to install Safestrap failed because I temp. unrooted with Voodoo before trying the update and forgot to allow root again. Thought I was past the noob stage.

I installed the drivers successfully on my computer, enabled debugging (charge only), unknown sources and when I run the batch file I get that screen. I just did a factory restore and have 4.30GB free of internal storage and 1.78GB free for application storage.
Why is it saying I don't have enough space?

Do I have to have a microSD card in for this to work? This is the guide I followed and it doesn't say anything about a microSD card - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1315711

Ok installed Root Explorer, Boat Browser, Droid X2 Boostrap APK and installed it and it says successful. Click "Recovery Mode", tells me it has been granted superuser permission and reboots ... and instead of a reboot it just powers down I guess. I hold in the powerbutton for a couple seconds and it boots back into desktop. What do I do to get it to load recovery so I can install eclipse?

So the thing you are missing is that after the phone powers down, plug the phone charger in ( using the wall wart, not a computer or anything else, the wall wart ). When you plug it in, it will automagically boot into the BSR. From there you can whipe data, cache, and using advanced options, the Dalvik cache. Then install zip from SD card.
A few minutes later, you have the new ROM ( Eclipse right?). I just did it last night, and it worked great. ( I did have a down level Play Store not upgrade that caused problems, but I re-did the wide data.... and rebooted great).
That is a great ROM, makes my phone FAST.
EDIT: OOPS, I see the OP has it working.
Hi,
I plan to order a Verizon S4 phone today.
When it arrives, I will try to root it right away.
Will probably turn it on in a bad signal area (my basement) and turn on airplane mode.
I have never owned a Samsung phone before.
How can I check if the phone came from Verizon with the OTA already installed?
Thanks,
Howard

My new phone will arrive tomorrow.
I plan to just immediately boot it into Odin mode, and start the rooting process.
Is there a simple way to see if it has MDK while in Odin mode.
I just booted into Odin mode and it does not say what baseband your on. I would follow the rooting process and if flashing the prerelease kernel fails then you know it's a updated phone.

Another related question regarding rooting:
I installed CleanRom, and when booting up it asks me about "update samsung device" which starts a download.
I assume I should always say NO - as this might be the dreaded ME7 update which eliminates root and locks the bootloader ????
I would say no. It's weird that your getting that with a custom rom installed. Can you get a screen shot of the pop up?

I only get the Samsung direct download via Wifi (no SIM card installed yet) when I use TWRP to factory reset and then boot the phone.
On subsequent reboots, I do not get prompted for the Samsung download.
I have been suffering from the google playstore error 920. This seems to occur at about 100 apps of my 200 apps. I've been TWRP factory reset to start it over again. But, now I've figured out how to get the playstore to resume my 200 apps auto-installation: First, wait 10 minutes, then in settings I remove the google account, reboot to TWRP recovery and wipe cache and dalvic-cache, boot phone, run playstore which prompts me to re enter the google account.
I am trying to set the phone up completely with all my apps, accounts, etc.. before activating the SIM card and installing the SIM card.
Let me know if you really wan tthe samsung update screen shot. If yes, then after I'm done setting the phone up I will make a nandroid backup and do a TWRP factory reset to get you a picture.
Regards,
Nope, was just curious. No need going through extra work.
