Exchange sub folders - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an exchange account setup on the G3 however when viewing folders I only get a couple folders like sent, inbox draft. I can't see the sub folders in the inbox.
When syncing the sub folders show up but then disappear and are not accessible.
Any one figure out how to display inbox sub folders ?

Use Touchdown instead.

Just figured it out. That was crazy easy but tricky. Too see folder list you need to touch the small green arrow only on the folder view

IMAP Prefix?!?

Does the Hero's mail app have the option to set a IMAP prefix path? Or am I bind and can't see it
Seems rather odd to me I thought you generally needed prefix paths if you mail server is on a Linux box as all your folders (sent, trash etc) are sub folders of the inbox.
Any ideas?!?
i think it did, yes. it was the very last option on the page if i remember correctly, but it has been a week or so since i had the hero in my hands so am not 100% on that...andif i remember it wasn't called prefix, but something similar.

You mean imap folders? In the mail app, you can press Menu->Folders and choose different folders. I have two problems with that:
1) Only the currently shown folder is checked for / synced with new email.
2) The mail widget is not customizable and always shows the root folder.

I can do that but all my folders a sub-folders of the inbox (INBOX.Sent for example) you use a IMAP Path Prefix typically to make the mail client understand that it shouldn’t put all of the folders as sub-folders of your inbox.
Because I can't tell it the correct prefix I can't send mail (it dosn't go the correct folder!!) or save draft emails etc etc...
you're absolutely right.
I just grabbed the one we have at work and checked it, and the prefix option does indeed seem to be missing.
I know it was there on the magic, but it seems they've removed it for some reason.....
I just checked out K-9 mail and it is awesome. Supports IMAP prefix, too
Yea I'm currently using K9 as its my only option due to having even more issues with the provided mail app. Shame it would have been nice to be able to use the HTC widget

I installed Enhance Email from the market. It gave me the functions needed to do batch deletes, batch moves, etc with the "select all" option. Its by QuantumSolutions. There should be a trial version on their web site if not a free version in the market.
Hi Rico,
THank you for the reply and recommendation. Seems like you had to buy another app to enhance the current limitations in the stock email app in the android platform. My problem is my trash folder shows i have 7 undeleted emails inside but when i open it there is nothing inside. Its really annoying and frustrating that the stock email in the Dell 5 is unable to do even simple functions like bulk delete or move or transfer. In my case , i don't have that many emails on the Dell as i clean up the trash folder every day but I cannot understand why these 7 emails can remain hidden in the folder and i am unable to delete it. Its weird. Since the emails are hidden i'm not sure even if the Enhance Mail can delete these hidden emails. Appreciate any help anyone can give to solve my problem.
Cheers.
Hi Herojam
have you logged on at the client side and erased the emails from the trash bin, then perhaps remove the account from the streak and reinstalling? Could just be a minor glitch where reloading the account may clear it upA?
Hi Rico,
Yes i managed to clear the hidden emails by deleting and removing the account and then recreating the account again. The hidden emails have gone. Thank you for the tip.
Looks like there was a glitch as you mentioned.
Cheers.

Great, sometimes that happens. The android environment is really nice. Like itover windows mobile for sure. Even though we get the basic layers of functionality, thats the beauty of it, it allows you to add on apps, etc that makes your android unique. The enhance email is just one of various ways you can manage emails and multi accounts.

[Q] stock email app - not syncing sub folders

Hi,
previsouly i used GMail app which later i found that it does miss a important functionality - NOT ABLE TO ATTACH DOCS - so i dumped it....
after that i moved to Stock email app which i found very nice and clean in terms of UI and performance. but now i have found that its not syncing the subfolders / lables in gmail id....Also if i opne the subfolders the little refresh button will spin and it will then show the new mails, but it wont show any new email count in the sub folders as it shows in the inbox....
any one encountered this, or is anyother way to resolve this issue.....i am on stock rom itself....
Any one pls help me !!!.....
Hey guys any one pls.

it's not possible with stock mail
try k9 or thunder something...
I can attach any file to Gmail with "Root Explorer" app popping up a an option for attaching. I use "Download All Files" app for download attachments to phone or sdcard.

Also having the same issue with the default email client on my Galaxy S2.
Looking for an app that can sync emails (including subfolders), contacts, calender entries and tasks (for MS Exchange)
Any suggestions?

Exchange ActiveSync, inbox sub-folders

Set up Exchange e-mail with no problems and have been using it for a while.
Everything is working fine for all the generic folders (inbox, drafts, outbox, sent, trash, junk e-mail).
The other day I noticed that some of the sub-folders I have under my inbox do not appear on the Eris.
It's not consistent, some sub-folders under a folder appear, but others do not.
It seems like the mail client chooses sub-folders at random.
I see no option to select which sub-folders sync to the device either like in the gmail client. Has anyone figure out a way to make ALL subfolders in the inbox appear?
Not sure what the answer would be. All of my folders that are on my exchange server show up in my list. I do have a personal folder in Outlook that will not show up on my phone as it is not on the server. Sorry I'm not much help!
I know that in Touchdown, you can choose which folders you want to sync to your phone and such. I have stopped using the standard email app because it didn't have the ability to do message filtering (which I need for work when I'm on-call).
Sorry that this is one of those "I'm not really sure, but try this app instead" emails, but you might want to download the trial version of Touchdown and see if you like it. You can use the full features for 30 days before having to buy it. And I've seen it on the Amazon Appstore for as low as $7.99 (much better than the $19.99 normal price).
snortman
i finally got my relevant folders to sync. so i take it that you click on folders and inbox and see your subfolders?
if you long press a folder, you can change the sync options. all of mine were sent to manual.
Though i did read something recent that you may not get notification for emails received in your subfolder... not sure about that yet, because i just configured it a few minutes ago.
I'll let you know though.

Email Quirk

Is there a way to replicate subfolders for a corporate active sync? Android is the only OS I know of that does not allow subfolder replication native to the APP. Touchdown you can do this, so I'm sure there's a way to make the default app do this. Just hate the idea of having to pay $20 for something that really should be built into the stock app.

Seems like most here don't have much experience with your problem, myself included.
Did some searching and found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-800472.html
Doesn't seem like there's any popular free alternatives (best bet will be k9 email for free, but not sure how well it will help your situation), but this will at least point you in the right direction and give you a few things to check out.
I know roadsync is half the cost of touchdown.

Not sure exactly what you mean.
My subfolders and their contents show up fine.
I do know that the emails that fall outside your sync date range will not show up, but that is not due to them being in a subfolder.
Now, if you have a client rule on Outlook that moves a message to a different folder, that may not work because your phone receives messages directly from Exchange, not your Outlook client. If your phone gets it first and you read it before Outlook gets it, Outlook may not process the rule, and thus the message may not move to the desired subfolder.
My phone using the default ROM rooted of course and using the standard email.apk shows all sub-folders on my inbox on both my corporate active-sync email as well as my home IMAP server.
Or are we missing what your asking for? Or like the previous person said do you have REALLY old email in there? If so just change your date range.
Also remember that some exchange servers "enforce date range max's" this is to put less load on their servers.
Here's what I'm trying to convey. I have several teams around the nation and have subfolders under my inbox for each team member. I have rules on the Exchange server that allows when someone to send me an email, the email goes righ to the right folder. On Blackberry, iPhone, and WM, I've been able to go into settings, tell it that I want it to 'push' email for those folders, so that when someone emails me and Exchange moves the folder for me automatically, I still know about it on my phone.
With the default email app on the Androids, I can go into my folders, but it's like a manual push. So if I want to see if I have any new email from one of the team members, I have to manually pick that folder and wait for it to sync. If I have new email, it shows up. If not, I just see the old stuff from the last time I synced it.
In Touchdown, you can pick which folders in replicate in settings. Anytime I get new email that is moved to those folders, I still get a notification that I have new email, can access the email instantly, and don't have to manually move the email to the appropriate folder. Does that clarify things a little better? Thanks.
