In network mode, there are options to set to GSM/WCDMA, GSM only and WCDMA only.
After I set to WCDMA only, all is ok.
But if I reboot, it will switch to GSM/WCCDMA again.
How come this setting does not stick? It works in S2.
Anyway to make the setting stick?

HI Folks!
I am wondering if someone knows How to set The Network mode to GSM/UMTS?
Navigating the phone tree:
Settings ---> Wireless & Network Settings --> Mobile Networks ---> Network Mode-->
Option Available:
Sprint Only!
Any CDMA!
Any GSM/UMTS
Automatic!
NO matter if I change it or not always when I reboot my phone it goes to CDMA or Automatic but always looks for CDMA.
I am using the photon with UMTS 850mzh so I need to know how to set that by default or how to hold that setting in the phone.
Also I would like to permantly Disable the "Roaming Guards" I am tire of switch off those thing everytime I reset the phone!
Thanks a lot!
p.d phone rooted and Activation thing disabled.
BOMB! bomb!
Set GSM UMTS
Dial *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone Information and select GSM auto (PRL)
Menu>settings>wireless&networks>mobile networks>roaming guards and clear the appropriate check boxes and that should solve your issue.
I'm a MoPho-er
I'm looking for a widget which turns the phone into 3G/HSDPA only mode.
I want this as my phone mostly locks itself into GPRS (2G/2.5G) mode in my area where 3G is available but often low signal strength. Usually I switch it by going through the menu.
Settings --> Wireless & networks --> Mobile networks --> Network Mode (and switch it from "GSM / WCDMA auto" to "WCDMA only"
Is there anyway to do this through a widget? Like the widgets that let you turn on and off bluetooth/wi-fi. I've looked through android market and haven't found anything yet. Does one exist if not is it not to difficult to make an app that does this.
you can try netswidget, Switch Network Type 2G / 3G, or Network Switches
My SG2 is set up in network mode with GSM/WCDMA(Auto mode).
When I’m home the signal strenght, WCDMA, is -101 dBm 7asu and the voice quality is very bad, almost unusable.
When I manually switch to GSM the signal pops up to -73 and 15 asu and I can talk with a sound quality as it should be.
To me it seems that the phone doesn’t switch to GSM, or too late, when the WCDMA signal is bad.
I have tried quite a few different modems for the SG2 but I can’t see any difference between the versions. Maybe it’s the network provider that manage when to switch?
If would be great if someone could give me some info. on how the switching between WCDMA and GSM works, and the thresholds.
GSM auto (PRL) will favour GSM over 3G.
I am not sure if it will work with your network, but you can only try...........
There are a few apps around that will do it, or you can just use the following:
1. Phone dialer *#*#4636#*#*
2. Phone info
3. Set preferred network type to : GSM auto (PRL)
Edit: I am not sure if it will revert after a reboot.
This post was rather useful info, although different phone and network, principle is the same:

I've a Galaxy Ace flashed with CM7.2 RC1.
I always have the Wi-Fi turned on and also the Mobile Data, so when I'm at home I use the Wi-Fi connection, but when I'm out I have access to the Network Internet.
My problem is that my mobile is often marking the option "Use Only 2g networks". So mannualy I disable this option, but few minutes later the option is marked again...
Do you know why is this happening? Is really annoying cause when I'm out im just having 2g internet...
Note: In my GSM/UMTS preferences I'm current usin GSM/WCDMA (WCDMA preferred), but I also used the GSM/WCDMA (auto-mode), and happened the same.
Hi guys, just a quick question here. My LTE (4g) is hit and miss so I currently have it set to WCDMA preferred/GSM.
Is there such an option that can give me WCDMA preferred/LTE? (So that my phone can automatically switch to LTE in areas where's its stronger than WCDMA)
If I have it on default LTE preferred it will only switch to WCDMA when LTE is non existant which is useless. I just want it to switch to what ever has the highest signal.
Cheers ?
