Questions for atrix 4g - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

1. How does rooting/flashing roms go? Is their any all in one tool or something? Tutorials?
2. I see the warning thing on the top of the dev section. Can someone explain it a little simpler?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...er UNLOCK/ROOT for AT&T 1.26/1.57/1.83/4.5.91
Click the link above and read it carefully.
Follow everything the command say. It will let you root and unlock the boot loader
When unlocking bootloader make sure at no point do you take the cable out, if you are asked at any point to select a command on the phone but it does not let you just carry on with the process. It worked for me. Mine was locked to Gingerbread 2.3.6 build 4.5.141
The warning links were posted so that if people had pre Gingerbread Atrix, they should not update over the air or there was a high chance of bricking the phone which would mean no recovery from it whatsoever.

I had a stock, locked Atrix on 4.5.141 (the latest release) and it went perfectly fine. I found a video that really helped (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6a0BWquqAc). It should guide you step-by-step through the process. Good luck, and join us on the CM7/Neutrino side!

[Q] Looking for tutorial, 4.5.91 OTA stock --> unlock + root

Hi guys, I had been running gingerblur on my atrix since the first beta release but wanted to take part in the 2.3.4 soak test so I wiped and updated OTA. I am still running stock 4.5.91 and would like to unlock so I can move back to a custom rom (probably Alien) but I have no clue where to start. This is my first android phone, no past experience with unlocked bootloaders. I am sure there are more than just myself in the same boat so if anyone would be willing to write up a tutorial for those of us on stock 2.3.4 that will allow us to get unlocked, rooted, and up and running with some custom roms that would be amazing.

I went through this thread, it seems a bit dated. A few 404 links too:
Simple Guide to Install the New CWM Recovery: (if you have questions about this, ask them in the proper thread and not here. This is my post from that thread)
1) Unlock your bootloader first:

Fine, I'll spell it out then.. Unlock your bootloader http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261
Now you have two steps to go, easy enough to figure out in the Development forum.

[Q] Last Question before I go through with it.

I'm rooted on like 1.8.3 I believe. Maybe 2.2, but definitely not gingerbread. Bootloader is not unlocked.
Can I simply flash this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138204 - the 2.3.4 version, and be rooted and ready to install a ROM while being on gingerbread?
Thanks for your help.

So says the OP... I'd read a few pages first though, just to make sure.

I'd say this (and I say it with the most benevolent intentions):
1) You don't know that 1.83 is in fact 2.2 (froyo). 1.83 just refers to AT&T's software release, not the current android version on your phone. This leads to...
2) Flashing that will get you 90% of the way there, but I fear it won't get you that last 10%, which is the dealbreaker- ROOT. This is because I'm afraid you don't quite grasp ADB...but no matter, I'm here to help.
3) What I would do is flash the 2.3.4 SBF with the BL UL (bootloader unlock)...(all of this found in the thread you linked), but then I'd go here. It's a really simple automated process that works through the command prompt/ADB and, with it, it's very quick and easy to attain root without all the manual ADB commands. On top of that, it's very useful for many other things besides just obtaining root.
Also, you might want to just look at this thread to see if there's anything useful, helpful, or downright lifesaving. And you can thank responder #1 for that.
I hope you didn't take this in the wrong way (frankly, me being a ****). I just want you to know the proper terminology, and not FUBAR your phone.
Always better to ask (though maybe search, first) than to go ahead and brick your device and then be a screaming all about the forums begging for help.

I need help!!!

I'm on 1.8.3, rooted, and webtop modded...I really need to update but I don't flash anything because I don't want to brick...I searched here but everyone is talking about unlocked boatloaders.....someone please help me update!!!!!!!!!!!

Dont be scared.
If you take your time to read all of the material that you need to know to unlock your bootloader it is easier than anything.
Just spend a couple of days reading and by the third day (MAX!) you should know everything you need to know in order to unlock your BL.
Once that is done, then flashing ROMS/Kernels is a easy process; all you have to do is reboot into recovery and then flash the ROM which is in the .zip file.
Once your bootloader is unlocked, you can flash ROMS and Kernels, however the process involves ADB and fastboot in use with the command prompt but all the instructions are quite clear.

Search pudding in the development and read that thread carefully. Its not hard. And read ahead as you do it just so you know what or not what to do.

I suggest reading the noobie guide, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600 . It'll basically teach you about everything you need to know with all of the relevant links.
One suggestion, before unlocking the bootloader go to 2.3.4/4.5.91 first.
The reason I suggest this is that is the following. About the one way you have any real likelyhood of hard bricking your phone is to go backwards from 2.3.4 to 1.8.3 after having the bootloader unlocked. So safest is to get comfortable with the 2.3.4 so you are certain there is no need to go back, then unlock.
It really is not that difficult. Read the threads a few times so that you are certain you have the game plan down.
Ok but first do I update using ota or another method since I've modded my webtop?

If you use the OTA method of upgrading, I believe this rooting method will work on Atrix. You could then have root access back without unlocking your bootloader.

[Q] Need help unlocking bootloader ( 2.3.6)

i just traded my xperia play for a motorola atrix, and the android version is 2.3.6, can you root and unlock the bootloader to flash custom roms from 2.3.6 at the moment?
http://briefmobile.com/how-to-unlock-the-atrix-4g-bootloader yep and welcome to the atrix forums
may i suggest first things firs install
android sdk on your pc
it has adb and the fastboot stuff we use alot and can communicate to the atrix
when the atrix gets messed up or just
to help unlock the bootloader with fastboot also
it would be great if ya can include phone
specs but DO NOT include stuff like imei but the other stuff in about settings-about phone

RSDLite gives me error " Failde flashing process: unable to retrive interface handle (0x7027); phone connected."
I would follow the pudding OP. Flash the unlock only sbf file, boot into fastboot and enter the fastboot commands. .sbf files can be trickey and there at helpful hints to curve sbf flashing problems in my noob guide.
As far a the automatic unlock... the Android version doesn't matter so much as your firmware version. 2.3.4 & 2.3.6 are both 4.5.91 firmware I believe. But still suggest using the pudding OP as a guide.
*Edit*
I saw tour post in my thread... that's funny that you claim none of the unlock methods work, b/c what I think you meant to say was that they don't work for you.
How do you think hundreds or thousands of people have unlocked their bootloader? Do you think there's some secret super easy way we just aren't telling you about?
I helped someone unlock their bootloader this afternoon with nothing but the instructions in the Pudding thread OP. Check out the conversation in Rom Racers recovery thread. I'm chalking up your problems to user error.

Did you factory reset / wipe data, and clear cache partition & dalvik cache in recovery before you flashed?

I'm running in to the same problem!
I can't get my Bell Atrix 2.3.6 to unlock bootloader
Tried following the pudding noob link but I ran into the problem where RSD lite detected it as "SE Flash Olympus" instead of "NS Flash Olympus"
As I continued reading other ppl's posts down the page, ppl are suggesting project cheesecake or the other link to do the sbf flash which doesn't work for BELL anyways ...
I'm not ready to go with project cheesecake yet cause the directions aren't so straight forward ... (step#3. Using root explorer move those files into their correct places (just follow folder setup, where they came from is where they go) Just where is these "correct places" are?
My device is already rooted and I think this is the only thing stopping me from flashing my rom to CM7
Please help ...
Getting super frustrated!
sorry missed a few posts somehow...
Hi i'm in the same boat, i don't want even try to unlock until i'm sure, my Atrix have 2.3.6 the firm version is not a 4.5.91 is 4.5.2A-51_OLL-48 so i don't want to mess up, i only want the battery fix in CWM, but i understand is only for unlocked phones. Thanks for the help.
Same here. After a lot of reading I am totally confused.
All the guides for unlocking the bootloader are for 2.3.4 / 4.5.91.
My virgin Atrix has stock Bell 2.3.6..
Under Build number it says 4.5.2A-51_OLL-17.8
System Version 45.21.78.MB860.BellMobility.en.CA
Baseband N_01.07.05P
Does this mean that I can still safely unlock the bootloader using pudding's guide and the instructions for unlocking the bootloader on 2.3.4 / 4.5.91 ?
It seems that I am not the only one asking this question.
Someone please clarify that once and for all!
A million THANKS in advance!
Same here
I have the same Question, I have a rooted Atrix 4G no Bootloader unlocked
Android Version 2.3.6..
Build number 4.5.2A-51_OLL-48
System Version 45.2.48.MB860.Latam.en.01
Somebody knows if is safe use the Only unlocker sbf for International for Unlock the bootloader this Atrix???
Thanks

New DNA with Questions

I hope I posted this in the rigth section, if I didnt I appologize. So, I used to have an HTC Thunderbolt and yesterday I upgraded to the DNA and I love it. But I do have a few questions. See I want to root it, but I dont want to have to hassle with all the custom ROM stuff again. Plus all I really see a need for me is to have root access. So I did do some looking and came across these links
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36976137
and

Im still a little new to the rooting scene and just want to make sure I know what im doing before I do it. So here are my questions.
1) If I root will I still be able to install the OTA updates that come on my phone?
2) Are the two links above both rooting methods, just different ways of doing it?
3) If yes to 2, is there a current "best" way to root the DNA?
4) If I decide to un-root, is there a way to do that? (im sure there is and a guide even)
I think that is all the questions I have for now. Thank you very much and keep up the great work here.

Follow the first link you posted because in order to unlock the bootloader you need the super CID hack then after you do the super CID hack go to the htcdev.com page and follow those instructions and then either flash a rooted rom or the Subusybox.zip to get root
To un-root simply lock the bootloader and run the RUU file

1) In short, no. To get the ota you'll have to install the stock recovery, and maybe relock, etc, etc. The easiest way is just to flash a rom based off the ota
2)Yes, but the second links to a thread which then in turn links to the first thread you in posted. Just use the first link you posted
3)See #2
4)ruu and fastboot oem lock, if your s off then its a little more complicated, but you will be able to be 100% stock as opposed to 99%

It means that the Security Flags have been turned OFF (S-OFF) and it allows you to write unsigned.img's and do other stuff to parts of the device that with Security ON you wouldn't be able too such as writing to the boot partition while in recovery, flash radios to the radio partition
