Hello all
I was looking at all the nice music apps available with nice UIs and noticed that however good they may be, none allow connectivity to Google Music to access songs from the cloud.
I had read that someone released an unofficial Google Music API, however I haven't seen any apps take advantage of this. Also, not many apps seem to take advantage of Google Voice Actions to launch songs.
Does anyone know of any apps that have taken advantage of the API? What happened to the project?
Bump..
Anyone?

This might be a stupid question but is it possible to integrate a phone 'shake' function to shuffle music? It would be hella cool to have this on my tbolt. Thx
I believe there are media players that already do this but I can't think of any at the moment. But as far as it being "possible"...of course it is when we have apps such as Tasker which can perform whatever action you want based on states/events of the device. It may take some reading and trial to get it to work well but it's definitely possible.
I haven't seen any music players that claim they can do this. I'm not even sure if it's possible, but can any non stock music players be configured to access uploaded Google Music files? I find the stock Google Music app to be a little limited.

Cloud Sniper just makes the downloaded off line tracks available. I'm wondering about a program that allows access to the cloud files, not one that are downloaded.

Thanks! That's a great find. Glad to see that somebody is working on this.
I just took my Nexus Q for a test drive and i will say that even with limited functionality, this device is slick as hell. The LED lights look amazing when playing music, YouTube streaming looked great, and so did Google Play Movies (I tested Transformers).
If Google added the Play Store (and totally killed off Google TV), mirroring functionality, Chrome, and Netflix, it'd be a really well rounded device. Apps on Google TV have been stagnant but I think the Q would be the first device developers truly care about making apps for.
I hope Google has more plans for this device. It seems like adding these features in wouldn't be too terribly difficult so I'm really confused as to why they haven't already. What do you guys think?

It seems a little unlikely that Google is trying to sell a device whose features are yet incomplete. I think much of the progress that you described (Google Play, Chrome, etc). will come from developers rather than Google itself.
But I definitely agree; there is so much potential here. Its just an absolute pleasure to look at and touch (until it gets greasy).
So the one thing I really love to do on my phone nowadays is play music while doing many other errands. I have some favorite albums that lend themselves very well for gapless playback, that is the songs play without a pause in between.
I recently read that the latest versions of Google Play Music app has this feature but that it needs the latest version of Android. But it is not clear if it works even then as I read comments on the app store by people who claim it doesn't work blah blah even though they are on the latest and the greatest!
So, long story short, can someone please verify if this works for CM on our phone? Because I am all comfortably setup with Viper ROM and I don't want to unnecessarily flash CM if it doesn't currently work!
Thanks

I am using Google Play All Access. And it works (for the most part anyway.) I would make a nandroid backup via the recovery of your choice and try CyanogenMod. But that's just me. But I must say that on wake-up, there is a slight pause, on sound. (could only be media) can anyone else confirm this or is it only me?
Hi,
I have been a silent reader/observer of xda forums for a long time now and I thank everyone of the awesome developers out there for giving such good ROMs.
I've been meaning to ask this question for a long time but I was delaying it hoping I can get an answer for it myself. But today after spending close to 5 hrs on this with no answer I decided to ask it here.
I'm a music fan and I'd like to listen to it on my phone as well. I have an HTC One XL with the latest Viper ROM.
I have tried the following options.
1. Downloaded numerous apps (PVStar, NextVid and the likes). Some worked but not to my satisfaction. They're either very laggy or buggy or have unattractive UI to use.
2. Visited sites like youtify.com and tried on various browsers. (Chrome, firefox, UC, Dolphin, Opera etc.) hoping it won't stop playing audio when switched to another app or screen locked. On chrome and all the others it just stops playing audio when you switch to another app. On firefox it works but when screen is locked, audio becomes choppy (app's priority gets lower I think slowly). I tried to search for apps which can keep an app's priority higher but in no vain.
3. I also tried to find alternatives to Youtube like grooveshark app but it just keeps crashing whenever other apps are launched. I also tried Radio apps like TuneIn radio or pandora but you can't search for specific songs there.
P.S: Also some YouTube videos are specifically blocked by Google itself to not stream it to other apps/sites I think. How can we avoid this?
So, basically my problem is I need to be able to search and stream Youtube videos (Preferably have my own saved playlists) on my android phone while the screen is locked or in background while accessing other apps. (I know google is trying to bring 'play in background' feature to YouTube app itself but we can't create playlists there if I'm not wrong). Please suggest me a solution.
Thanks.

Thanks for a lot for the links. Tried both but the first one (Viral) is not so stable. It crashes often and a pain to use. However the second option (Modded youtube APK) seems to be the best option. I can have my own playlists saved in my youtube account and play them using this modded youtube app. The music will continue to play even when screen is locked but the app must be in the foreground. The moment you switch to another app or press home button or even pressing "back" within youtube, it stops.
It's a solution I can live with for now, but I would love to have something which can run even when in background. Suggestions welcome.
Thanks.
[BUMP] Any youtube modded APK?
Trying to bump up this as I wasn't able to find a modded youtube APK which can continue to run in background (i.e. even after pressing home button and accessing other apps). Right now the modded APK only allows screen to be locked but the app should remain in foreground.
And the youtube APK also doesn't play all files in playlist. It plays just one file that we select and stops after that even though there are other items in the playlist.
