Hi guys!I have a simple(I believe so) and maybe noob question but I wanna be sure about something.I have recently rooted my 3VO and I had to downgrade to HBOOT 1.49.007 in order to do so.I have flashed the leaked Virgin Mobile ROM with Sense 3.6 and ICS BUT I HAVEN'T FLASHED THE FIRMWARE.ONLY THE ROM!
I saw that my HBOOT has gone to 1.49.11007.Now,my question is:is this bad or does this affect my device by any means?(EVO 3D GSM)If i want can I unroot and receive OTA updates, can I downgrade HBOOT,etc...?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!

You still follow the same procedures to unroot for ota, flash stock ruu for your phone after locking bootloader. That is all.
S off is what you want, bit ota only works on stock ruu

Thanks!(I have already hit the thanks button).Since you are very helpful(I am glad that someone experienced told me that upgrading bootloader didn't affect the phone) can you explain me something else?I have had this problem since installing custom ROMS.
If i shut down the phone and plug the charger in,the red LED goes on for about 3 seconds than goes back off, than back on and stays so,and in the morning when I power on the phone it says that I have around 60-70% battery(even though the LED is green).
If I charge the phone while on ,the LED stays red and the phone charges to 100%(but it won't come down to 95,then again 100 and so on).I have downloaded a battery calibration app and I have thoroughly followed the instructions(charge to 100,calibrate,discharge,charge to 100).
Will this eventually destroy my battery? Is anything wrong with this situation?
Thanks in advance
Nobody knows what this could mean?

My Evo 3D is unlocked, s-off, and running hboot 1.4. I know the OTA update for ICS and Sense 3.6 was just released, but I was wondering if there was a version of that update available that would allow me to upgrade without locking my phone or turning s-on? In other words a clean upgrade (preferably something i can flash from my phone) from android version 2.3.4 to 4.X (whatever the OTA update will upgrade me to) and HTC sense from 3.0 to 3.6. I couldn't find anything when I googled it, and the only thing close to what I was looking for here (hopefully I missed it and my answer is somewhere among the threads) required the wire trick, which im not 100% comfortable with.
Are you gsm or cdma?

If you unlocked and s-off you can flash almost anything you want, the wire trick is for s-on , you need s-off the flash the new firmware that is required fir ics, go to cdma devel. Section

You're already S-OFF, which means the wire trick doesn't apply, because the wire trick gives you S-OFF.
If you want the stock, rooted OTA, I would look here:

ok so when I flash this I will still be s-off and unlocked right? That's my main concern; I want to make sure rom toolbox, set cpu, wifi tether and all my other rooted apps I paid for work after I do this.

Yep, you'll still be s-off and unlocked. Roms don't take root, I don't even think they can

As long as you have s-off you're fine, the relocked thing doesn't matter, that happens to pretty much everyone who flashes the new fw s-off, don't worry about it.

I unlocked my bootloader with HTC dev, and have S-ON. Apparently, it is okay to flash roms in this state, having used this method. I don't want to try flashing, as I don't want to risk bricking my phone and I am waiting for either cyanogen mod for my GSM version of the Evo 3d, or a decent, working jellybean ROM. So, do I need to get S-OFF, or am I okay as it is? If I do need S-OFF, what would be the best way to do it?
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda app-developers app
Oh yes, and I have superuser, Google Now, CWM recovery and HBOOT 1.53.0007.
U don't need it but it makes things easier. My bootloader is locked but I have s-off. That's the way I prefer it. U really only need one or the other to flash roms.

If you want to flash new firmware you do. If you want to flash a kernel, depending on your recovery, you need to be s-off or use a computer to boot recovery. If you want a custom splash screen, you need s-off.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
I just installed the 4ext recovery and flashed a few roms. It can accommodate S-on to some degree. And its a lot easier than using the volume butttons to do anything in recovery.
You should give that a shot if you haven't already.
Is there much risk in using the wire method to gain s-off? I don't want to break any part of my phone and that sounds like it might... Im fine with the splash screen, and I don't want to mess with kernels. Would s-on restrict the usage of roms such as cyanogen mod, and is that rom likely to be released for the gsm evo 3d?

A lot of the ics roms that have true 3.x kernels that work better with updated firmware. You would have to s-on to update them. Unless you relock take all the otas the unlock again, but some roms based on the new OTA need the 1.58 hboot and all the aosp roms can't use it so it necessitates going back and forth with hboots. That also requires s-off.

it honestly doesn't hurt too much to do it, especially if you don't intend to fiddle around/flash ROMs with your phone too much.
Yeh man I was a bit skeptical to do it too, but after doing the research and finding out it was recommended to do S-off I was glad i did, and its fairly easy to do.
Hi guys,
Just to make sure, I have searched and googled but can't see the trees through the woods anymore... :screwy:
I like my 3d capabilities, I like sense 3.6 but I just want more control over my EVO and be able to flash some of the great stuff available here to improve my phone.
Do I need s off or unlocked bootloader? I have hboot 1680007 or similar, ics ..
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda app-developers app
U need unlock to flash other roms, gain root, etc
S-off is needed for kernels with aroma and non sense (aosp, aokp, miui, etc) roms, at least to flash them that easy as sense roms, because u would have to flash the kernel with adb without s-off...
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda app-developers app
Ok, so unlock will do fine for what I want.. with my hboot version, which is the easiest way to go and unlock?
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda app-developers app
If its enough for u to flash sense roms unlocking should do fine for you
Htcdev is one possibility to unlock, i dont know if there is another way for ur hboot, never saw that one
You have the official 4.0 update, or?
I think in that case Htcdev is the only way...

Thanks for the reference but the model in his signature is a GSM version so I think he would do better following one of the guides in the stickies of the GSM development forum.

oops my bad sorry gotta bad hangover
This is the guide you need. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743466
I must ask, are you sure your hboot isn't 1.49 or 1.53? Those are the only two hboot versions I ever heard on gsm.
Anyway follow the unlock method through HTC dev. However the links for control bear on the guide are dead. Just go to unlimited.io website and get the control bear from the shooteru section based on os, hboot, and computer your using.

I don't think you can S-Off yet with the latest. DirtyRacun may support it now I could be wrong. Watch Qbking77's videos on YouTube to unlock and root your device. Good luck and welcome.

If you are already on 2.09 hboot, I think you have to use the hboot downgrade method to brick your phone and install an earlier hboot which will let you run dirty racun. It is by no means easy, and I don't know if there is still support for that method.

The only way to downgrade your HBOOT on this device IS to brick your phone (if you're S-ON, that is). I think you misunderstood. This device is much more locked down than the OG. "Forget everything you think you know."
But at this point, the downgrade method isn't supported (yet). I already bricked my Jewel trying it (granted, that was after the downgrade was completed successfully, but still).
The team that put together the downgrading tool is still working vigorously on confirming a method that will work reliably with the new HBOOT. Stay tuned.

^^^ This. The OG EVO and this phone are not the same. What worked on one won't necessarily work on the other. Just wait for an S-off exploit for the new Hboot, otherwise you'll end up with an expensive paperweight, like the Captain did:banghead:
