ALLEGEDLY
still too small after having my note for a while now
If the rumor of simultanous launch is true, I'd gladly skip the GNote. The 4.8" screen is perfect for me, comparable to GNexus's 4.65", both without physical buttons. I'm sure the screen will be Super AMOLED Plus HD. Anything less doesn't deserve the GS3 name.
I was actually all set to pull the trigger on the GNote today until I saw this. I live the size of the GNote, but really wish it was a quad core. Also for someone that goes through as much battery as me through a day (almost 2 full batterys on my skyrocket a day), I didnt want the hassle of taking the back off the phone constantly since people on here have implied it being very difficult. Might just do GS3 until the Note 2 comes out
If everything in that spec list is true.... I'm getting one.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk
I care a lot less about screen size than I do screen resolution. 1280x800 or 720p would be fine - anything less is useless on a screen that size. It'll be interesting to see how it stacks up with the Note.
Also, I want to say I read that the photo in that article is a discredited 'shop-job, but I'm not sure. Having zero bezel around the edges of the phone would make it awfully difficult to hold and not create mis-clicks.
I'm pretty sure that's photoshop job but thin bezel is not new. HTC has two 4.7" phones with thin bezels, one for WP7, one for Android. None are being called too big by any reivewers
Gnote us the best phone sometimes its just best to get what u what instead of trying to keep up cause there will always b a better phone at the rate we r going

That's is a very subjective matter. I tried multiple GNotes at AT&T store. It certainly feeled sluggish in stock form compared to my GS2 in stock form with a lot of apps installed. GNote could have benefited a lot with a much beefier processor than the S3.
Interesting article. The ceramic and size info is indeed new and I have not heard any of that from my source
Right now we are expecting
4.65 hd screen and a new dual core, not quad.
I will poke around and see if I can find more

These supposed spec leak articles are a joke, designed to drive traffic to those site. They just speculate on the incredibly obvious. What phone hasn't come out with a slightly larger screen, a bigger processor,a better camera more memory etc. Its a given that if you wait another six months you will always find a "better" device. "Super AMOLED Plus HD"..lol.

Mr.Ed,
I wonder what happened to that Skyrocket HD (a.k.a Galaxy S2 HD LTE in Korea)? If this rumor is true about the launch, it makes no sense to release the Skyrocket HD at all. So, if there is no upcoming release schedule for Skyrocket HD, we can assume GS3 is coming to US this summer.

According to a leaked AT&T road map, the skyrocket HD is suppose to be released at the end of Q1.
I'm not gonna get too excited about it at this point. I'm not too ready to move on to the next big thing, specially if it has a smaller screen. I just moved from the streak to the Note, and on paper this is about twice the phone that the Streak was. However in actual usage it's not that much faster, and in some cases more choppy.
It's a better phone, don't get me wrong. I'm just saying that there's no point in waiting forever. There will always be something better on the horizon. And the Note meets my needs perfectly right now, and probly will for the next year

I doubt that one (probably imported from Korea) will have AT&T compatible LTE bands.
After getting used to the Note, I wouldn't want to downgrade to a smaller screen. I love how everything is huge on the Note. On my GNex, everything looks stupid small in comparison. I'd rather wait for the Note II with Exynos 5250.

Look at all the hype the Galaxy Nexus/Nexus Prime was getting just to find out you couldn't expand the memory, only went to Verizon, etc etc.... I messed with Note a day or so ago and it wasn't as bulky as I thought. I was more curious about development issues. The Skyrocket and the Hercules (i727 & T989) are basically the same phones so from the development side there are more behind them. Not sure if an SIM unlocked Note can work on T Mobile or if T Mo is going to offer the Note at all.

Do you have a link for the Note 2 or is it mostly just talk as of now?
I'm most interested in the ceramic back. If it is durable, I think that could create a really interesting new path for Samsung in terms of design. I can just imagine a smooth, matte finish feel that would feel super sexy and high quality. Not that Samsung hasn't achieved high quality design using their plastics, but I would be really excited to see what they could do with some other materials seeing as they have really proven that plastics can be used to create a rock solid device.
So, I have been using my SGS3 for about 6 weeks and I am loving it. This phone is loaded with so much technology that I can not really see what more I would need in a phone.
1.4 dual core CPU
2GB memory
LTE
GPS
Music and video player
Gorgeous 4.8" screen
Will this not last me a few years? This phone will not be obsolete any time soon.
What more would I really need in a phone? I know in the future phones will have more stuff built into them, but to what end? I can actually see myself using this phone until it is dead.
I know there are people who upgrade to the latest and greatest every time something new comes out, but the average person does not. So, will you upgrade to what ever comes out next , and if so, why? Or will you keep your phone for a while?
For those who will upgrade, what would you like to see in the next phone that the S3 does not already have? Coffee maker? Juice squeezer? Clothes Iron? Hamburger maker? Nail polish applier?

this ^ plus there's bound to be a whole host of features... Soon (well I'm hoping) phones will be completely voice controlled. although I quite like the gesture control (someone over in the apps forum has developed something)
There are never "needs" to upgrade just "desires". I will be upgrading if the next phone has HD Super Amoled Plus.

Depending on the design of the next Google Nexus phone, I'll be getting that.
Most likely it will be a Motorola product
It will be obsolete in 15 months. Trust me.
When the S2 was released, about 1 and a half years ago, people said the same thing: it'd the "the phone" for years to come. Now that I've had my S3 for about the same time as you, I look at my old S2 (that I gave to my wife) and think how was I able to use such a tiny screen!
The thing is: our expectations will shift upwards, new technologies will emerge and things we don't even know that exist today are things that a couple years from now we won't be able to live without.
I refrain my self from saying "this will be my phone for xx years", because I am a tech addict, a gadget junkie! I remember clearly that a couple weeks before the release of the S3 I wrote in the XDA S2 forums that I wouldn't spend a dime on moving from my S2 to the S3... until I held it in my hands! I wrote that there is nothing in the S3 that I couldn't have from the S2.... how wrong was I ?

Exactly the same with me
If they make a phone with
- no wake up lag
- no physical home key
- 2 GB RAM
and leave everything else the same as SGS3, I'll buy it immediately.
Galaxy nexus would be a perfect phone for me if it has sd card slot and better SoC at least like s2, now when google put tegra 3 in nexus 7 which performs really well it's obvious that next nexus phone will be equipped like this or even better . So i'm 95% sure Nexus 4 or whatever it's called, will bey next one

Hi,
Just saw this vid about the Galaxy Note 2 and its S Pen features. >>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTMfkG8a-2g&feature=BFa&list=HL1346344641
My question is... what are the chances that the geniuses here at XDA can replicate some or all of these functions for the S3 if you had an S Pen?
Ideally it would be nice to have extra functions when you hover the pen over the screen, and pressure sensitive handwriting.
Having seen this vid, I'm quite disappointed that the S3 I love so very much, is no longer the Samsung Daddy! :crying:
What do you think? Forget the size difference, just features, is the Note 2 looking more functional than your S3?

i will be getting the Note 2 as long as it has LTE WITH its quadcore......if not then they can keep it. i have the international s3 and after coming from the skyrocket and galaxy note LTE version. this s3 just crawls on the network.
so im hoping the quads will get LTE this time around.
Im sure I heard that it would be 4G with the quad core.
(OFF TOPIC)
I'm British with an International S3. I phoned my network/carrier this morning and asked if my S3 would be compatible with 4G when we get it in the UK (By the end of the year apparently). He assured me it would be. Why can't the International S3 get 4G in the US?

The screen is capacitive for your finger and also inductive for the pen. That is how your hand doesn't draw lines on the screen while you are writing as the capacitive part gets turned off while the pen is being used. At least that's how it works on my Note 10.1 and I'm assuming the Note 2 is the same
I believe it's the pen that senses the pressure and tells the pone.
Here's hoping all the cool stuff from the N2 turns up in the JB release for the N10.1!!!

I think he lied! I'm sure I read somewhere on here that the quad core processor in our S3 cannot receive LTE and that's why the US version uses a dual core instead

cant be just the pen who's pressure sensitive.
If it's really only the pen, u could actually reengineer the pen to work capacitive, which would give any other user the same experience as the Note..
Either way.. Im wondering what JB-Features they add for the S3.. as we've seen there are quite some near features for the NoteII.. nothing u couldn't do with the S3 I believe

I did say to him - I thought the (international) S3 didn't have a 4G compatible radio. He then asked if I had received a new sim with the phone. I said a micro sim. And he said then it would be no problem. He said something about how he works for a specialist department and he could ping my phone and get certain info back from it about its capability.
I'm wondering (which I now realise I should've asked) will the British 4G network infrastructure be different to the US? Meaning we wouldn't need the same phone hardware as US 4G users to receive the same speeds.
In fact, I might just call them back tomorrow.

Wow! We're talking S4 already!!
The initial envy I had for the Note 2 is starting to fade. As I have the international S3, I think the hardware's pretty much the same, just bigger screen and overclocked. And all the software differences could be addressed with a few updates. Jelly Bean being the main one.

How do you figure that? In what way is it inferior?
The N4 has a better CPU, GPU, screen and software.
The S3 has removable storage, that's about all that is better.

I wouldn't say Nexus 4 is inferior, but has it's drawbacks. Non-removable battery, no possibility of adding storage and maybe lack of LTE, but that's the end of it. Well, and its manufacturer is LG, that's a drawback for me, but thats all.
The fact that it sells for 300$ is it's main selling point, besides it's processing power (which I am beggining to consider is starting to be overkill). 2Gb of RAM is fairly nice too. If I did not own a SGSIII rigth now, I would be kicking my ass in a rush for getting one, that's for sure.

Removable battery is meh, got the nexus 7 and was concerned about freezes from overclocking too much and not being able to pull the battery, but if you hold the power button for like ten seconds it does a hard reboot so problem solved.
Storage is a kick in the ass alright but I have unlimited data and my music on Google music so I can get around that problem too and as for LTE well Ireland doesn't have LTE so that's a moot point.
It all depends on each persons situation I guess.

s3 is iphone killer , so yeap its stacking up pretty high in the competition
S3 still wins it for me. Hate those onscreen buttons. Hate that n4 doesn't have support for SD card. My 16 internal is filled with game and apps data while my 32g sd card only has 4gigs memory left from backups and videos, etc. My S3 rarely lags and at 1.6GHz, my benchmarks are all higher than that of stock Note2. Multiwindow support is coming so the only real advantage of note2 is the RAM which i think is overkill because i never fill up the 1gig i have bec i removed all the freaking bloatwares from samsung. I dont know though if it would be enough when the multiwindow comes.

We must understand that manufacturers are looking at profits and increasing utility is their main focus. Consider that there were people asking this same question when the s2 came out. Yes, it was "the best" in most areas, design, hardware etc. But that was then, this is now with the s3 replacing the s2 as the name suggests. We must consider the future developing prospects for the Android as a platform and what they hold and how soon manufacturers will release this "new technology". The reason why I put new technology in inverted commas is because when manufacturers introduced new products as "new", they have long been aware of the latter but only introduce it to the market now as it is better (more competitive) that the current devices.
Manufacturers are able (based on demand) to determine when a product is at its peak (in terms of sales) and so introduce a "new product" which they have developed long ago to gain new demand thus maintaining or increasing profits, the latter is most likely.
So in terms of the utility of our devices, yes we have "the best" but for how long is the real question? The new s4 is already developed IMHO but they are just waiting to release, I'm sure they monitor this forum to see what user demands are in the future, I "too much lag here, multi windows there, device getting too hot)" and so they adapt their product to meet user requirements thus increasing utility and potential profit.
Right now (given that there are no subjectively better products on the market) I am very happy and would not what anything else but let's see the "new" stuff in the future.
Hey XDA I have a note and my mother is willing to trade me for her S3. Would you consider it an upgrade? I would miss the spen but I really think the big phone is not for me. Much smoother, the cpu/gpu is a big upgrade.
I would do it. I go back and forth between the two, but imo the s3 is the superior of the two.

I actually think that once the upgrades come to the s3 that it have the same functions as the note 2 other than the s pen.

I'm using a rom now with multi-window and stuff on it, it is fantastic.
Not to mention I get much better battery life than on my note
Note2 > S3 > note at this point in time. S4 is right around the corner which means the note3 isn't too far off either. Right now isn't really a good time to upgrade

If we're to believe Samsung Display, the display arm of Samsung, which is actually a desperate company, there might not be a Note 3 as we know it. They're replacing both the Note 2 display, as well as the S3 display with a 1920x1080 4.99 inch panel this year. This according to Anandtech. I suppose we could see a curved OLED touting Note, but then again, flexible OLED yield isn't supposed to be good enough for production runs til 2014.
Unless they're keeping the display a secret, this is what most would expect. This doesn't mean that they'll have some other type of offering or combination to allow SPen functionality on say....the S4, but I wouldn't personally design a new chassis around an S4 and call it a Note.
I'd definitely choose the S3 at this point. The Development support will last significantly longer than it will for this device. Isn't it the most popular Android device ever? That is to say, more users often means more ROMs, the pressure to update and develop for it will be higher.
Since were not talking about an upgrade, its a no brainer.
But if you had to use an upgrade, or pay more than say....50-100 bucks (personal figure) I definitely wouldn't do it. A new generation of SoCs is just around the corner. Just as well, the GPU is much more powerful on the S3, but app support and UI/general performance isn't too much better now that we have 4.2 AOSP. And while an official JB is probably a couple months out, but it will bring most Note2 features home for us.
That's the current sitrep for both devices.

At this point, trade for the S3, as the XDA Note community is shrinking...

Hey XDA I have a note and my mother is willing to trade me for her S3. Would you consider it an upgrade? I would miss the spen but I really think the big phone is not for me. It a hassle to Carry around especially with the extended battery. Could someone give me some advice on if its worth it. Thanks in advance.

Personally I love my note and it's plenty fast with the stable roms out there. My gf has a S3 and it's a nice device and I can really see the appeal but it really depends on WHAT you plan on doing with it. I remote into computers and my home network. Work on servers all from my phone so moving to a smaller screen isn't what I'd do. It has the horsepower to show up plenty of phones and though it's a gen old with older hardware, I kept my 86 toyota camry longer than I've had this phone and THAT was a piece of crap.
But again it's all about needs and wants. If you feel that you need the faster phone and are willing to loose the screen size, I say go for it.

Agreed, with new phone announcements coming up soon it doesn't make sense to upgrade for any form of currency, but in a straight trade, it might be worth it.

True, but I'd hazard to guess that's more due to the devs waiting for official JB to be released. But as my gf likes to remind me, I'm often wrong

I find the ui performance much smoother on the s3. ridiculously so actually.
the 4.2 roms do help the note but it still isn't in the same ballpark as the s3
actually the note 2 non international is fast enough, after you apply the Lag-remover app, posted this month. The Note flies after!

the fluidity of the s3 blows the note out of the water...
so so smooth.
