[Q] Call Audio issues in ICS - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed Resurrection Remix 2.5.1 (ICS) yesterday with the CM9 Kernel. Everything works (i think) up until I tried making a phone call. I have no audio during phone calls (I can still make them, i just can't hear or be heard). Audio works in other apps, such as music and games. The mic works when i try to use voice commands. I reflashed RR 2.5.1 with again, and tried the Siyah Kernel, and again using fluxi Kernel. I've rebooted the phone a dozen times, still no luck.
I had this issue the last time i tried to use an ICS rom (i tried 3 or 4 different roms about 3 months ago, all had the same issue). I downgraded to a GB rom (Unleased)and the phone was fine.
Any ideas?
(Aslo is the hardware back button and search button supposed to be disabled in ICS?)

2.5.1 is an AOKP ROM so I would suggest that from GB you flash an ICS stock firmware via Odin to get the bootloader installed properly and then you will need to do a full-wipe(possibly format system/data/cache if it helps)and then install.AOKP if not installed properly over AOSP will cause problems.

The i9100 doesn't have a search button. The i9100 has a hardware home button, with a menu button on one side, and a back button on the other. This is the forum for the i9100...
If you really meant what you said about your phone having a search button, then I doubt you have an i9100. Check the label under your battery for model number.
EDIT to add; if you DO in fact have an i9100 and are just confused about the search/menu button... It sounds like you could also be describing an issue caused by a missing /efs/imei/keystr file. Do you also lack a power button menu, and the phone just shuts off if you hold the power button down? If so, are you missing that file?
If the answer is yes, make sure you are rooted, create an /efs/imei/keystr file containing the word ON.

Hmm. i didnt notice the AT&T version of the phone (the I777) had its own subforum. That's probably most of my issue, thanks for pointing it out.

[Q] Menu button intermittant or not working:

Evening
An issue with an SGS2(traded in my SGS for it) I just bought, its stock never had custom rom etc. Couldnt find any threads that answered this question bar this one for a different handset - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1509980
1. enable wifi and then the menu button would through a fit as if possessed by a demon.
2. pull/replace the battery and it would fix it for a short while.
The stock rom it came with was 2.3.4, and Kies said that was the latest version - yeah right. Went on to sammobile and downloaded both the 2.3.6 and 4.0.3 roms.
3. wiped the delvik, cache and data and odin (1.85) flashed the 2.3.6 rom from above.
Menu button has stopped spacing out, but worse it now dosent work at all.
I'm inclined to think that this is a hardware fault and its time to return the phone to the shop(Cex) for a refund.
[small update]
Put Cyanogen9 on as I needed ICS w/root to run CF's triangle away app etc. And low and behold the menu button is now working again and has been solidly for the last hour or so wtf..?

[Fixed] Samsung Stock ICS ROM with SIM card lock + Power menu issues

My phone have 2 very weird issues since returning from the Service Center. 2 weeks back after changing my kernel to SiyahKernel 3.1rc5, I noticed my wifi no longer works (it was not be able to find any AP and will keep searching then automatically switch off). I reflash the phone back to stock GB ROM and stock kernel everything and confirm the wifi hardware is somehow damaged. I sent the phone to the Service Center and they have the motherboard replaced. Wifi works after that.
First thing I got home is to nandroid restore my phone prior to servicing. Wifi works now but I could not make any calls, sms or use mobile internet. I then realised the phone did not request for me to enter my SIM card PIN (I have always enabled this) when booting up. Once I disable the SIM card PIN, my calls, sms and mobile internet works! Funny thing is this problem only affect Samsung ICS ROMs (any firmware as I have tested many in the past 2 weeks), but the same SIM card lock function works fine with CM9 or Samsung GB ROMs. Just for the record, I tested this on pure stock Samsung ICS ROMs (no custom ROMs or kernels).
Another issue is the Power menu is missing (the menu that appears giving options to reboot or power off, and no I am not talking about the APM in custom ROMs). Now when the phone is not in standby, holding the power button will send the phone to shutdown immediately instead of presenting the usual power menu. Again, this only happens with a Samsung ICS ROM and not with CM9 or Samsung GB ROM.
I am not sure how the new motherboard could have caused all these software issues but I am fairly certain it is a hardware issue so I need some confirmation or possible fix if it is software related. I was thinking of sending my phone back to the service center but my problem is that these issues only affects Samsung ICS ROMs but ICS isn't official release in my country yet (yes I know it has been ages since the first official ICS ROM for the international SGS2 was released), so I can't really show these problems to the service center with ICS on my SG2.
I have captured the logcat of my phone with the above 2 issues with the following action sequence performed on the phone: Phone boots, Call (to 1633), test SMS, remove SIM card lock, Call (to 1633), Hold power button.
Any expert review on my issues would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Edit: problem solved without need for logcat, thus removed
Anyone has any idea what is the problem with my phone?

Maybe check your efs\imei folder the they keystr file? I had this problem before and the keystr file had disappeared after a flash

This was the solution! Thanks a million!!!
It had not occurred to me that the problem was with the /efs folder as the CM9 & GB ROMs didn't show the symptoms.
Thanks once again.

[Q] Wifi Problem !

Hey guys !
To begin with, I have searched and searched and have not been able to get help.
Phone stats :
Model GT - I9100
Android - 2.3.5
Baseband:
XXKI4
The problem is, I turn on wifi, it scans, then turns off. I have tried adding a wifi and it comes up "unable to save the network".
I got this phone 2 days ago from a friend.
Mac address and IP address are listed as "Unavailable" in advances settings.
PLEASE HELP!
Tried a hard reset?
Thanks for a quick reply !
I have tried:
Power button and home button (holding)
Factory reset. (Home + Power + Volume up)
Are either of them classified as a "hard reset"
I'm sorry, I am very new to android and have just moved over from apple. Not looking to go back just hoping to clear up this issue !
Yeah, that's one way to do one.
You should try updating your device. Your firmware is pretty outdated.
Either with KIES (crap software, but simple - you know, just like iOS ;-) ) or Odin/Heimdall (little harder, but works for sure).
Tell me if you need help.
Hey, updated to ICS using odin after researching all about roms and kernals and what not.
It did fix the issue of the phone constantly in a loop of turning itself off (HOORAY). Wifi is still not working
Then try a Rom that isn't based on Samsung's. Flash the resurrection edition of CM9 via Odin and after that the latest nightly via cwm. It's worth a shot, as CM comes with its own kernel and such.
If it's working under CM it was some sort of software fault and we can try to figure it out (unless you want to stick with CM).
If it doesn't, it looks like a hardware fault and I cannot help you.

[Q] power button dead- need touch version of CWM to backup with.

Hey guys,
Been lurking on the site for a while, I've searched all morning for what i need but with no success.
Setup: Att sgh-i777 rooted etc. running JellyBam 5.1
Problem: Power button stopped working, cannot use recovery to backup/flash new software.
Plenty of threads on the button issue, that's not the main question (suggestions welcome though) I just really want to backup before I send it off for repair.
Seems my best course of action is to get a kernel with touch based recovery. I tried downloading mobile Odin to flash a new kernel but it's telling me my phone isn't supported for some reason? I ran the dump file Odin suggested but not sure what to do with that info now. Next best option appears to be to get a .tar of the siyah kernel and flash it with Odin via PC. I just can't find a .tar for that kernel anywhere and I don't have enough posts to ask in the siyah thread.
So, can anyone give me a hand- either with trouble shooting mobile odin, or tracking down a .TAR of the siyah kernel or...any other suggestions?
Edit: Just found this- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644240
I realize this is in the 9100 forum but looks like it simply converts a zip to an odin flashable tar which is what i'm looking for. Anyone have any experience with it?
Thanks in advance for any insight!
You want to do a nandroid backup? Yes just flash the siyah kernel in the development forum with mobile Odin. It does work with our phones.

Odin says "Device not supported, or not detected (check root)" see attached screen. I'm definitely rooted, have superSU1.04, use TI backup frequently etc.
It actually magically started working again last night though. I immediately did a backup but at the end it said "md5 checksum failed". I then ran kernel cleaner, wiped cache, wiped delvik and flashed the newest siyah and tried again and backup was successful and now i'm on touch recovery. Mobile odin still tells me not supported/not detected though- any idea what might cause that? could it be ROM related ?
I'm going to flash back to jellybam 4.1 today and see if that does it.

It possibly can be ROM related (but I am not certain). User AJ's Siyah kernel 7.6.8, it's works well with all the ROMs.

Yup, running 7.6.7 now and enjoying it.. My power button is currently working again but i turned on 'swipe to wake' in Stweaks so when it fails again, at least i'll still have a working phone. the volume wake from AOKP settings doesn't work when the phone is in deep sleep so pretty useless. As long as i stay on Siyah kernel i guess i'll be able to limp along until i get the button fixed.
The Odin thing is still strange though, will have to try another ROM and see if it recognizes my phone then. Tried Jellybam 4.1 but kept getting reboots even with full wipe- tried flashing it twice. Maybe i got a bad download, i'll try again tonight.

Try 7.6.8, I'm using 7.6.8-S and swipe works perfectly fine on my end.

Oh yea the swipe to unlock for siyah works great. I was referring to JellyBam's AOKP settings which offers a volume to wake. Volume wake works when on charger, but won't wake it from deep sleep. Siyah's Swipe wake does both :good:
I would still love to have an odin flashable .tar of siyah though- If anyone has any insight on how to get that (or make it from the .zip) that would be awesome. I used the tool from the thread linked in the OP and it did turn the kernal zip into a .tar but i don't dare flash it to test...

Read somewhere that jellybam 5.1.0 places the wrong phone info in the rom. It show up as i777 instead of sgh-i777 and this might be causing Mobile odin to fail on the compatibility test.
To turn your volume up button into a power button edit the /system/usr/keylayout/gpio-keys.kl file to read:
key 115 POWER WAKE
key 114 VOLUME_DOWNWAKE
key 102 HOME WAKE
key 107 ENDCALL
key 105 DPAD_LEFT
key 106 DPAD_RIGHT
key 103 DPAD_UP
key 108 DPAD_DOWN
key 232 DPAD_CENTER
key 116 POWER WAKE
key 212 CAMERA WAKE
key 115 is the volume up button. This only works in the fully booted os. Doesn't work in recovery.

Yup that was exactly it. I notice it when i went back to Jellybam 4.1 and saw the full device name in the 'about'. Hopefully 5.2 drops soon with all the necessary fixes!

Thanks for this info. Is there a thread or tutorial somewhere that will explain how to access and edit this file? I assume it's not as simple as just navigating to it and making the changes?
Also, how do i get volume to go up if i turn it into a power button? wouldn't that make my phone lock every time i tried to turn up the volume then?

It actually is just as simple as finding the file, mounting the directory as r/w and then editing the file. As far as turning up volume, you would have to turn down volume and then use the on screen volume panel to adjust.

Great thanks. So to mount the directory it appears i need to use ADB, or could i use an app such as Root explorer or something like this? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beansoft.mount_system&hl=en
Can i access the file right from my phone to make the changes once i have the directory mounted correctly?

I use root explorer on the phone. If you use a rom that has support, you can add a line into your addon.d files to keep from having to manually change it everytime you update your firmware.

Thx for the info, i'll have to test this out. I'll nandroid and back up the original file too just incase!
Let me know how it works out for you.

Hi,
My wife's power button went out on her i777. Backed up the file and changed key 115 to power wake. Rebooted. This made volume up and down both stop working. Changed it back, they both work. Any ideas?
I have it running AOKP with AJK kernel.

[Q] Several major bugs with AOKP (Neo MT15i)

Hi. This is first time I rooted and changed something to my phone's core system. I bootloaded through Flashtool and got in the newest kernel, ROM and GApps from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613017 and my baseband is 77 (http://www.mediafire.com/?1oyztnqww22bgek). Things looked fine and my system was working as it should. But soon I was starting to see these bugs:
Screen moving from left to right and back at recovery menu on vol up/down press. Not a big bug though, still possible to work with the menu and read the text.
No lockscreen. Tried all the lockscreen options at settings, but power button still just turns the screen on and off. I can only see the lockscreen right after I reboot my phone and before I enter the PIN, the wheel works as I've set it but then I can't get into the lockscreen anymore.
Strange menu button functionality. Firstly, when I was in the home screen and pressed the menu button, a menu with system settings popped up. Now nothing happens, for both HW and SW buttons. Since the time it worked I was just messing with settings but I'm sure I didn't disable anything like that.
Browser and Google Play not working, Play says RH-01 error, browser just crashes. GMail works.
Tilt not working properly. It did after the fresh install, but now it works only for menus, not for homescreen like it did before. I've tried running a widesecreen-only game but it's being displayed in normal, portrait mode- with errors. Enabling/disabling the tilting didn't help.
And I believe that there are more bugs I didn't mention. I did everything as told in this article http://www.theandroidsoul.com/aokp-xperia-neo/, just with getting the newest links instead of the ones provided. I installed the Hallon version of AOKP and I was running GB 2.3.4 before, if that helps. And like I said- I am doing it for the first time so I am quite new to these things, so firstly sorry if I didn't mention anything important and please describe the steps about how to fix it a little bit more detailed. Thanks!
Hi..
That ROM is legend sometimes ago,and dont have problems like you said.
The step I did was like this :
1. Flash full firmware ICS(.ftf file)with flashtool.
2.Flash kernel
3. Flash ROM
4. Flash Gapps
5. Flash Add-on if any
Enjoy
Sent from my Xperia Neo V
MT15i_4.1.B.0.587_Global.ftf ICS firmware and hallon kernel flashed through Flashtool, then rebooted into system. Then in revocery I wiped cache, dalvik and reseted to factory, installed the newest AOKP ROM, installed GApps, booted into system. My screen is still moving from sides as the screen refreshes in recovery. But after booting, still the same issues persist...
Inside the old recovery, screen dancing is known issue, try Flash other kernel,no harm changing kernel.
Can you provide,Aokp ROM version and kernel you have..

AOKP Hallon JB Milestone 1
I tried the CM10.1 and my recovery menu fixed but the bugs weren't fixed, so then I flashed the CM10 and my recovery menu changed again, now with black background and again, fixed animations. But then my device bricked so I flashed again the MT15i_4.1.B.0.587_kernel.ftf.
Couldn't you just send me links to a working combination of kernel-firmware with AOKP? The requirements says I need baseband 72/77, do you have any links or tips for these? I've tried several combinations but just none really worked, now I am on stock laggy JB 4.0.4 and I have no idea what to try now...
