I am running .28 rooted. All of a sudden I am losing write permission to my dock SD card. A week ago it was working (with .28 rooted) and it also used to work with .21.
I discovered the problem when attempting to run a Titanium Backup writing to the dock SD.
I can regain write permission by removing/replacing the Prime dock. Can then write to the SD card with a file manager. But as soon as I run Titanium the problem recurs. It also behaves the same with MyBackup Pro.
Any solution please?

I got some problems with the write permissions on my sd card. From time to time my permisiions switches to R/O, although Root explorer doesnt show it. I need to switch to R/O and then back to regain write permissions. If i dont do that i cannot write or delete any file from sd card and i get the "Error deleting file" message. This recently happened afther playing Assassins Creed and the game could not save data. But the situation occured a few weeks ago when the game was not installed and did not know the R/O switch trick, so i had to format the card and do a clean flash.
I dont have long named files on the card (the kind that cannot be deleted by windows OS). All the files that innitialy could be deleted and/or moved become read only, like the sd card gets locked or something, and the only way to unlock it is the way described above.
Writing permissions on sd card are also not modified in Root explorer.
Any idea why this happens? I looked around and find others with the same problem but no solutions.
My card is a 16 Gb class 4 Kingston.
Also, it seems that the error occurs while connected to usb, and removing write potect using Root explorer doesnt work until disconnected.
I have successfully configured my phone to install apps on the sd-card before. But because of some problems, I have to do a restore, and my latest back up file was before I partitioned my card and do the conversion stuffs. Now, I noticed that my free phone storage is filling up fast when installing apps. But using Ap2sd, I can see that the phone can detect my partition(304mb free out of 457mb to be exact). Do I have to re-run the conversion of extensions again? I'm pretty hesitant to do so until someone confirms that its needed since I did a nand restore.
Another thing - my sd card keeps on going to R/O privilege. I have to always use Root Explorer to change its permission state. Is this a common bug or what? Thanks
It's probably a corrupted a2sd script. Try another version of it and make sure that it is supported by your ROM.
it's true it will work, you will see
So, previously I was able to download torrents directly onto my external SD card but yesterday I tried to download something and it gave me an error. It said Error: Permission Denied (writetodisk)
I was using the Bittorrent app, but I also tried uTorrent, and no luck. I am not sure what would have caused this change. I tried ejecting the card and putting it back in, rebooting my device, etc. Still nothing. I'm not sure what to do. I can still move files from my device onto my SD card, but that is rather annoying and would prefer to get to the root of the matter.
I am using a Note Pro 12.2 and the Sandisk Ultra 128GB microSDCX card running 4.4.2. I am rooted running the the stock Touchwiz firmware that the tablet came with--no Xposed modules or anything.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
As the title says implies, I am having trouble writing data to my external SD card - both through the phone and while connected to a PC.
Background: Got the S4 about a week ago. It was on NK1. I rooted, de-bloated, and made back-up in SafeStrap. Discovered I had to run the KK SD Card fix, but was able to write to the SD card afterwards. Yesterday, while trying to copy a file to the SD card while connected to a PC resulted in a failure (Device stopped responding or was disconnected error). After that, the whole phone went wonky - Titanium, Root Explorer, File Manager, etc... wouldn't open and/or run properly after wards. Several reboots and the problem persisted.
Figured I would just restore my back-up. Well I screwed something up and got stuck in a boot-loop - I odined back to NC5 (figured I didn't need to be on NK1), and re-rooted. Setting my phone back up I realize I can't write to the SD card again. I run the SD Fix but to no avail. Opened Root Explorer and looked at platform.xml, which has all the correct permissions (as in this post).
What's going on and how do I fix this? The SD card is a pretty important feature for me. I can write to and copy to the internal storage either through the phone and while connected to a PC, but not the SD card. FWIW, the SD card works flawlessly in my old phone, so I know it;s not the card.
Going nuts here.
Thanks,
Edit - So playing around with another (lower capacity) SD card I find that everything works perfectly. When I get time this weekend I will have to reformat and/or get a new card. Strangely, the problem card still works good in my old phone. Very weird.
Turns out the sd card was/is bad. Found a great deal on a 64gb card and it's working great.
So now for more noob questions: What is the correct procedure for restoring and or flashing roms with safestrap? On my other phones I'm used to entering recovery (TWRP) and wiping data/cache/dalvik, formatting, doing a factory reset, etc, then flashing and or restoring.
When I attempted to restore my backup on my S4 (as described above), I wiped data, dalvik, & cache. After that I either did a factory reset or format (can't remember which), the phone automatically rebooted, and that is when I got stuck in the bootloop and couldn't enter safestrap recovery. I am interested in flashing Eclipse but would like to know the exact procedures to avoid losing the ability to enter safestrap.
Thanks for the advice.
So first off, I'm familiar with how KitKat doesn't allow 3rd party apps write access to SD cards.
However, I've been using Solid Explorer to manage files on my SD card for some time now... Long enough to move well over 20GB of music from a LAN share to the card. I'm not sure why this worked, but I didn't question it. This past week, without really doing anything to the phone, that ability went away. Solid Explorer now gives the standard spiel about KitKat and SD cards.
Am I overlooking something here? Why did this ever work, and can I get it to work again?
better .... try esexplorer
I've explicitly removed and avoid ES Explorer for getting progressively sketchier.
Solid explorer is perfect as it is.
First try this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix
If it works, then check the permission for Solid Explorer. Usually, the app ask you for permission, don't remember where or how, but you could try to uninstall the app and then reinstall it.
I installed Advanced Tools to fix the SD card write access. Go to Settings and Root, and then 'SD card write access' to fix the permissions. I'm on 5.02 rooted.
