Ok, the state of things is Bluetooth and NFC works, anything else wireless + Camera doesn't, lights is acting a bit weird, but it's a quick fix I'm too lazy to do now, the rest is ok. WiFi seems to be using some kind of their own code, at least with debugging output reduced, so I can't do much about it without reading the source.
replacing the broadcom .ko file from the original rom doesn't work?
fixing the lights is an easy fix... it just takes a ****load of time :silly:
camera is a real ***** without the source code I've been messing with AOKP when I still had a DZ and it was a pain in the ass

It's on my github, not the latest though. WiFi is broken on Sony's side, not much I can do. The camera HAL is linked to protobuf dynamically, and Sony's protobuf build breaks the boot somehow, so I think I need to cross compile the dynamic library using the AOSP tree as a base. I'm not prioritizing camera though, so you can try that.

Is there a way to use mms.apk in AOKP rom for Arc/ArcS as system app instead of conservation.apk in stock rom ? I really hate it but dont wanna use 3rd app for stability

I compiled my first ROM from source FRF91 for N1 w/root su+busybox+de-odex+gapps. The time of my AOSP -b master sync was around 9:00a pst, 07/10/10. This is not a "kang" of Modaco or CyanogenMod but I credit both and all teamdouche since I regularly need to look into their work to teach myself. Thank you dferreira and jr33 for not flaming my many noob questions and also thanks to dsixda for his reqularly updated android kitchen.
I still can't do much customizing and adding features because I still have to get better at too many things...sorry. Feel free to report bugs and I hope some of you could tell me how to fix simple things or add features by directing me to resources.
I am using themes by micromod777 for FRF91 that do work on this ROM.

thanks for trying out this rom guys. it is not a cut-n-paste. i really did compile from source. it took 5 alphas to get to this release. it is like a hobby for me to try and solve puzzles and that's how i tackled making the rom. i have zero programming knowledge and have fun relaxing trying to follow steps in a process to accomplish a goal.
When will you work on your desire rom project again? We really need someone to work on desire port beside paul. hopefully you can challenge yourself and make that desire rom perfect.

thank you. ...not an update though. it's a source build compile. the post i recycled had a paste-n-bake kang of an early aosp 2.2 that chris soyars put out via a tweet... ...and hundreds of people downloaded it but not one person posted a reply since i made clear i simply was passing it along.

How about compiling Stk.apk and extract the dictionaries from the LatinIMEGoogle.apk and putting them in the corresponding locations in your LatinIME source. That will get you more layouts than the Google keyboard and still all the features since they have now been included in the AOSP version. The Stk.apk (SIM Toolkit) is also useful for a lot of people, and only work AOSP based roms, and might possibly drive more people towards this rom if they want the stock experiance.
It should simply be a matter of running 'make -j4 LatinIME' and 'make -j4 Stk' with the -j flagset to your number of cores + 1 or 2.

I'm working on the same kind of project you are. The problem I'm running into is that every app that tries to access GPS location FCs on me. Did you ever come across this? Maps won't run at all, and I've had to set my homepage to something other than Google since it FCs the browser when it calls for location. I've got a working build otherwise!

Very cool that you have a working build environment. What OS are set up in?
I do not get the error you describe. Run a logcat either with ADB or using Logger from Market. Reading the log makes it easier to ask for help based on the specific errors. That is what I do. Ask the pros for advice. Some are helpful. Most ignore us noobs.
I am happy to offer whatever help I can as a rookie. Just PM me.

I'm in the exact same boat, just jumped into android about a month or two ago with my nexus (from an iPhone 2g, no less lol), ain't no turning back now
I'm also building a rom from source, more as a side-project to better familiarize myself with Android, but if it turns out well then that's always a plus.

The first non-Samsung ROM for the SGS2! This is 100% stock AOSP from Google.
What works:
- It boots up.
- Stock launcher.
- OpenGL
- Vibration
- Phone Radio (Incl SMS)
- Internal Storage / SD Card
What doesn't work:
- Wifi, Bluetooth
- Sound.
- Cameras.
- Sensors.
This is at least a proof of concept of how AOSP can work on the SGS2.
Installation:
Warning: Don't do this unless you know how to use Odin or have time to learn. You won't be able to make phone calls until you flash back a Samsung firmware!
Also, this is a custom kernel, so you will have the yellow ! on your device after flashing this (same as root).
All of your data will be lost - backup first!
Download the .7z file from http://www.mobile-dev.co.za/I9100_AOSP_V2.7z
Unzip using 7zip or similar.
Flash the .tar file with Odin:
- Default settings, touch nothing
- Load I9100_AOSP_V2.tar as PDA
Put phone into download mode (Voldown+Home+Power after turning off device), connect with USB, press Start.
The device should then boot up into AOSP. When finished playing around, flash back a stock Samsung firmware (from http://www.samfirmware.com/ or other). You may need to go into recovery mode to use the 'format data' option. (Volup+Home+Power)

Just needs a little tinkering in the init.rc, probably. This version is 100% AOSP, except for mounting the partitions using EXT4 instead of yaffs2 (obvious reasons). So this is a "no samsung code at all" ROM.
Little bit of tweaking should have wifi working without much trouble - no idea about the rest. Not really sure why I'm the first one trying this, to be honest!

Nope - 100% AOSP code. It's all just userland, after all. The Samsung "platform" sources are just the changes they made to GPL software, I guess?
And yeah, that was the point of this - for some reason I was seeing nobody playing with AOSP/CM - this will hopefully get more people involved.

No known exploits for the SGS2 yet, so not right now...
Security researchers have found some though, but nobody is disclosing any right now.
Progress on getting the radios working:
Nice big error about RILD, etc. The radio seems to be very different from the SGS1 (or any other hardware I know of...) If anybody has any ideas...? Otherwise, will have to try reverse engineer it or something? I hope not!

I noticed that the rild binary is very different to the one that you end up with if you built it. Have you tried using the stock rild binary and even libril.so?
Also, would it be too much to ask that you show us your vendor overlay (the boarconfig, device and other mk files)?

I noticed there was no active development that was trying to get the standard AOSP build working, which I really would like to use as my day to day ROM....so I decided to give it a shot. Feel free to help
I use the Ninphetamine kernel and a clockwork recovery initramfs. The initramfs has been altered and will not boot with other ones. This is because of a missing socket that the older init.rc doesn't make.
I'll be using the next post to describe what I'm working on and update it with any useful info I find.

AdamG has made devnull (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183063&highlight=devnull) which is basicly the AOSP build. Some stuff not working though as the CM7 team has not managed to get audio over bluetooth working.
He has also started the Oxygen development. The oxygen thread is here: http://www.forums.acsyndicate.net/showthread.php/1591-ROM-AOSP-GRJ90-2.3.5-Oxygen-v2.2.1
Good to hear others working on this too, hope you manage to get bluetooth audio issue sorted and perhaps help other AOSP / CM7 devs with that issue.

Ah, yeah, I forgot about that one. I'll be leaving it completely stock AOSP though (when it works well anyways). Might speed things up for me a bit. I am doing this as a sort of hobby too, interesting to learn how it works.

I have been using CM7 as well as Devnull/Oxygen and I felt Oxygen was very stable, while CM7 26 was the most stable for me while 31 made my me turn back to Oxygen.

I admit that that's a problem with open systems, but the flip side is that it's the very nature of opensource that allows you to make all these custom roms in the first place. You won't have this kind of freedom on a closed garden, that's for sure.

Remember open source is about sharing..this is the reason why android dominates smartphone markets :thumbup:

I think what trettet meant to say is, people are not honest enough to ask permissions and give credits to the source of any ideas they come up with.
I'm not just talking about some codes, lines or a whole ROM copycat, but sometimes an idea which result in better achievement should be given credit too.
An imaginary thought in Open Source Life, there are roots to everything, you can trackdown any development to its original source, growing some branches and leaves, or growing another family trees

If you want to be a serious developer, then be sure to read the licences of the sources you're using. Some licenses have very specific terms about what you can do with the code, such as requiring proper accreditation, specific redistribution requirements, etc. Even opensource does have its rules.

Develop your own os then. Open source has always been the best policy. If it would all have been closed source, you wouldn't even get a change to build cm, miui, cna, aokp or even android. Developing would then be zero and it would then be called xda-modders.com and not developers.
And what do you want to hide?
Hide what you make and not what you mod.
i think what trettet means here is, the orginality of the hard work gets lost in the case of themed roms.

I've been looking for the commit that caused my instagram videos to stop working. It also affects mirroring the screen to a chromecast. That's on the horizon. What is definitely new is some changes to the snd_soc_msm file that came from someone at CM.
If there are any blatant issues let me know And I'll see what I can do to remedy them.

I've been using it all day today and I haven't noticed anything totally funky. There is still the Netflix bug where you have to tap at different places on the seek bar to get a clear image. Also the Camera doesn't record video higher than QVGA. The Netflix bug goes all the back to Cyanogenmod but the Video recording may be fixable.

Try the OpenCamera from play store
Stock camera doesn't work even after the fix ..!
I found the media profiles fix but it looks like I'm still getting errors trying to upload videos to Instagram. The video plays back as all black. I'll add it to the ROM anyway. Maybe I can figure out if it's just Instagram or the media encoding.
@treyf711 is the new android L style recent apps screen is added in this rom...?
and are you going to update to PA 4.4.5 or 4.5 ...?

@kjjjnob is right. The recents are in 4.5 And I haven't been able to find that source on github but someone can point me to it if I'm wrong. At the moment I'm making a mirror so I can put out 4.45 later this week but I derped and forgot to do it before I left school earlier this week so I'm using my home internet that is about 150 KB/s. It may be later this week.
The 1080p fix for the back camera doesn't actually result in working recording. When trying to stop the recording it force closes the camera at least with the google camera. I've left it out for this reason until I find something that actually makes it work.

I do check out the stuff he pushes but haven't really added anything device specific yet. How does the man know so much Motorola stuff? He's gotta have some kind of inside experience.
Any bugs anyone noticed? I'm about to flash in the morning regardless lol I'm ready for that recent menu...

Dhacker is magic ahah. Maybe you try to talk with DJLamontagneIII, he merge updates on Slim Kang rom (CAF and prima updates) from Team Gummy kernel The last build works perfect, what's the problem with Instagram?

Whenever I record a video with instagram and try to upload it I get nothing but black video. Audio works fine on it but for whatever the reason the video doesn't show.
Has anyone got Netflix to work without xposed?
