Do you have more than one Android device? You can only use roms made for the I717 version of the Galaxy Note on the Galaxy note I717 unless its a ported rom. The same goes for other devices, only flash roms made for that specific device or you can ruin it. Go here to find roms for the Galaxy Note I717 http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1496. You will also find useful information and kernels, radios etc in the link. Also when you are on this site looking at the forums and you want to look at roms for a certain device there will be subforums for each device that will look like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1493 all you do is click on the entry that says Android Development at the end and thats where you will find custom roms and other development.
Gents, I have put something together as a ref and one stop shopping...see my signature for the GNote Super Everything Page...hope it helps you...

I was acutally looking for a nice ICS custom rom but apparently i would need one for my kernel(XWKL1). What would happen if i install a custom rom of ICS ment for a different kernel would it brick my phone?
thanks in advance for any information.

probably but you are better off reading and learning before bricking your phone
ICS is yet to be released but we do have a buggy leaked ICS test rom you need to know how to recover before flashing .

Yes it is safe if you know what you're doing and for you that means don't go anywhere near an ICS ROM try a Gingerbread ROM first but before you do that read and read and search and search.
Just practising my speed typing....
wow thanks for such a quick reply so for example if i were to install the Omega rom i would need to get one for my kernel version only right? Then if would need to revert all i need to do is flash my old insecure kernel back and i would be back.
edit: - i didnt see B3311 post. ok i am a lil confused now if i were to install a custom rom ment for a differnt kernel would it work or would i brick my phone?
Kernel version doesen't matter.

Search, Read, Backup and try. Everything you need to know is in the threads. Please read friend that is the only way you get to learn. Look at me. Been reading upon the threads once i had my galaxy s2 just before xmas and i have read upon two months before i got my phone. Now even though i only joined recently i know near enough what i need to do regarding as rooting and flashing roms and themes go. But i still search whenever i can for what i need before i have to ask questions. And most of the time it is right there infront of you. Also another thing if you think the search engine is crap on xda use google. Most of the times it gives you what you are looking for.
Not having a go but today mininum have been two three threads what rom is the best and what one to use and so on. Anyway good luck with the flashing and hope you enjoy whatever you choose

And the key to all the reading is that you are less likely to brick your phone more likely to be able to recover from problems.

True but even with all the reading at least you will feel more comfortable about going about and rooting the phone and flashing a rom. That way at least you do not have to expect others to spoonfeed the information to you. Also when you flash a rom for the first time you will feel great about yourself cause you did it all by yourself than asking others to help you. Hope that makes sense.. and to what you said also you have a great point and i always read your posts when you help people JJe as you are one helpful guy.
Hey, I just contacted Google and advised them to remove the Google search widget that comes standard on every android phone's home screen.
It useless I told them, nobody seems to even notice or use it. Heck, why search when you can just ask?
Still waiting for there reply.

to be clear i never asked which rom was the best and which one to use. I have been reading up on all the different roms available i have narrowed it down to the ICS and the Omega rom and i know how to flash the roms the instructions there are quite clear my only query was about the kernel version for which i could not find a solution. Now i have another question since you guys are saying the kernel version does not matter then why are they country specific and suppose i use a kernel ment for USA would that mean when ics finally got released here for the sgs2 i would need to reflash my phone with the gingerbread 2.3.6 version before i could get the official ICS update from kies?

let me make this clear. Different variants of the s2 hence why you see different forums. If you have an international version then you are safe to flash whatever you want in this forum here. So if you see USA version I would steer clear it as it has nothing to do with the international version if that makes sense. Regarding your other question well yes flash BBL to stock official ROM and that is it

The kernal is not related to country or carrier. The csc is.
Practically all custom roms come with working kernals and modems for the rom.
As for getting the official upgrade, you can reflash your original firmware, but most here just download the new official firmwares from the Intratech thread or sites like sammobile and flash it with Odin. No need for kies. I don't use it at all except for when I first got the S1 in 2010.

Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403044
and also i like touchwiz so i installed the touchwiz apk mentioned below in the same thread i have an app called AppZorter which basically just sorts the apps in the application menu but when i try to do it i get an error that "No suitable Version of TouchWiz was found on your device". I searched the forum and found an updated touchwiz

Best asking on the illusion thread.

No.
Very unlikely to be any more custom roms made for the I9100G to go with the one (maybe two) already in existence.
Won't happen.

There are at least 4 custom roms actually.
Considering that Samsung stopped sending I9100 to some countries, I don't see why there wouldn't be a few more roms.
There are less and less shops in France where you can get I9100. You'll find I9100G almost everywhere, and I guess it's starting to be the same in other European countries.
Gee. There's 4. Compared to how many for the I9100/T ?
50 bucks says there isn't 8 in 6 mths (and 'cooked' pretend roms which are simply someone else's rom repackaged with 'cosmetic' changes/different themes don't count).
Bottom line is the I9100G is a 'nobbled'/technically inferior phone in a bunch of ways. That's why there's a small selection of non-stock firmware available for it.
As they say in the classics:- "You can put as much lipstick on it as you want, but it's still a pig..."

Thanks man! This looks good. Can we expect any ICS ROMs?
Just for my info, do these phones require completely different ROM or a SGS2 firmware with correct 9100g kernels will do the job?

There is not THE BEST ONE, mate. That's why we are here
I noticed that this site doesnt have anything specifically for the Galaxy S2 LTE HD.
So, I want to ask if the things on this forum like the methods, roms, and such be compatible with my device.
Can I go ahead and root my phone and use these roms and kernels?
I forgot to ask..
which development would I use: I9100G, original, or the other one?

thanks alot!
heya, so i was checking around, and it seems I have to root my phone, then use EZunlock to unlock it, then just install CWM and install the roms correct? EZ is just a app on the app store right? is there any 1 click things for rooting my s3 phone, or a really easy way? Gonna download a few roms now, I did see a few good JB ones, but did not see bamf, so will try out a few others. Let me know if you recommend a certain rom
Thanks
also guys, i noticed there is a verizon s3 section, and just the regular I9300 section, can i download roms from which place for my vzw s3? does it matter? I see the verizon android developement then just the regular development, so wasnt sure.
i recomennd using CF-ROOT and odin,
yes, be sure to check which version u have
GT9300 is the one for this forums
recomended roms = android revolution HD, checkrom, villianrom for first time flashers.
Umm I see there is like a section for each carrier. Then a section for Samsung galaxy III. Can I use those ROMs or ONLY the ones under Verizon section? Can u link the URL to the place(s) I can get ROMs here? Sorry lol just don't want go brick

See one place listed Samsung galaxy III I9300 then one Verizon Samsung galaxy III section. The generic is there I boosted this thread.

You are in the wrong forum. This is for the International version of S III.
Flashing anything from this section might brick your phone.
