Hi guys. I'm from the HTC EVO 3D section and was considering maybe going for this phone at some point in the future. One thing I am curious about though, is does the S3 support proper (not pre-defined) text reflow in stock or dolphin browser in the same way HTC devices do? If not, are there any custom roms which allow this?
Thanks for any info.
I think Chrome supports reflow, don't know about any others, chrome runs pretty well as well, worth checking out.

Thanks for the response.
I much prefer Stock or Dolphin though. Unfortunately Opera is out of the question too because the default google search cannot be changed to the UK version.
I'm not sure...but I heard that the S3 has a read mode, that does text reflow. Don't have mine yet..so I can't check.

On the gs2 browser when i zoom in on text, it doesn't reflow.
Is there a way to get the text to reflow???
(because scrolling left to right is rather tedious)

bullsh*t. there are no settings for this. dont mix up text reflow with double tap fit to page.
i use opera mobile, the only one browser where it works on sgs2.

Isn't the option "Auto-fit pages" what you want?

This guy is right. It is double tap to fit the page.
Really annoying, the only thing I miss on my HTC Desire! Really would like full text reflow, but double tap really isn't that bad!
Opera is the only one with a propper rendering as you are searching for.
Has its own Presto engine coming with it. Best browser at the moment, imho. And I spent some efforts to compare, measure and daily-use almost all the existing browsers.
What I also like: it's the only browser that allows to activate a single flash content in a page with several flash contents.
HTML5-Test: 234+11 (stock: 182+1)
Browsermark: >60'000
Rendering: top
Same issue for me.
I switched to Dolphin Browser HD which is great and does text reflow.

I changed for Opera precisely for this reason, the text reflow.
It changes everything for ease of use.

Yes it's very smooth, and you don't get the frequent checkerboarding. Make sure you get Opera Mobile rather than Opera Mini.
I don't understand why some people have to lie on this subject !
Some SGS2 owners (a minority, but still) said in this forum that if they pinch to zoom (even to a very large size), and then *slowly double tap on the screen*, text reflow will happen (without zoom being changed). They said they can achieve text reflow at any zoom level using this method.
Apparently you can't trust anyone here. If someone thinks he can do this, please post a video so we could all see it's possible (as of now there a ZERO videos on the net showing this is possible).

I can do it on my htc Desire running MIUI rom, using Dolphin HD.. zoom in, then double tap fast and it reflows. i've always done this on my browser so im really surprise that its not normal!

It does not. As has been stated already only Opera Mobile does it properly on the S2, so far. Stock: nope. Dolphin: nope. Don't let anyone fool you.
Dolphin Browser HD can reflow (see screenshot, full version of Lifehacker website, not the mobile version).
I really don't understand...on my device and another 2 of my mates devices with dolphin installed and fit to pages ticked we can never get it t reflow when piched to zoom..it will only reflow on double tap...how come people keep saying it will reflow on pinch to zoom??? plse tell me how to do it???
Thanks
Hey every one I read a article this morning that was on the app Appy Geek but was originally posted on Tech Radar. But the article says.
A snippit of code posted on Google's Chromium Code website reveals Google's Chrome web browser is to be ported to it's Android smartphone operating system.

Here is a link to the article, Chrome finally coming to Android?
Now I think this might just make a pretty significant change to Android and the user experience with Android. I also think it is about time Google made Chrome part of Android, that is if this turns out to be true with the release of Ice Cream Sandwich.
What is your opinion about this? And any links to other articles about this would be awsome.
Edit: I decided to do some more investigation on this subject. Below are some more articles that discuss this topic. From what I have found so far we will know for sure about this and if it will just be a app or the new default browser.
Is Google Chrome Coming To Android with Ice Cream Sandwich?

I don't know about that now cause the article also says this.
Expect to see the official announcement at Samsung Mobile's Unpacked 2011 event in San Diego on 11 October - which is where we're also expecting to see the unveiling of Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest iteration of Android, and the Google Nexus Prime.

It's definitely a possibility, the Logitech Revue already uses Chrome.........I'm using it right now!
I have no real issues with the stock browser apart from its inability to download all files out the box.
Would be cool to see what They come up with tho, the firefox android version was pretty pants imho
I like the default Android browser, heck I have never even tried another internet browse for Android cause it is a very functional browser to me. Now when I was using Windows Mobile on my HD2 I tried several different browsers on it cause Internet Explorer just was notfor me.
Now having said that I do have two things I do not like about thedefault browser. One is the URL address box does not stay at the top of the browser pagewhen you scroll down. And the little icons you use to highlight text to copy and past or whatever you want to do with it does not really work that great. Even on my Acer Iconia A500 tablet, which I am using right now.
Shamless LOL
I added some more links on this topic to post #1, and this is a shamless BUMP!
I use Chrome everywhere now, except my phone, but I did think that the stock Android browser was based on Chrome. Am I mistaken in that assumption?
As for a fully fledged, actually called "Chrome", browser on Android, that just smacks of win!!! Especially if you can sync with the desktop version
Edit: Incidentally, I used to think the stock Android browser was the best available, after trying all the Market available browsers, but now I'm on MIUI and the browser is just amazing! (I do still want Chrome though )

Plus from what I have been reading so far Apply had a epic fail today.

If Chrome comes to Android, there will likely be minimal change compared to the current browser. They're both based on WebKit, so the backends are identical. The only possible change I could see is to the UI, which is minimal on the phone side. Maybe we'll see proper tabbed browsing, like what's in Honeycomb.

Yeah that is like one of the main reasons I personally would like to see Chrome on Android. I have a Acer Iconia A500 and I love the tabs on it. They make using the browser so much smoother and user friendly to me.
One of the articles I read today was talking about just this point. I can not remember if I posted a link to it or not in post #1. But remember the browser in Honeycomb is themed to look more like Google Chrome bit it is still basically the same browser as the phone OS under it all. Point being this ICS is suppose to combine Gingerbread and Honeycomb into one OS. Also if Chrome or even a Chrome themed. Browser is intergrated into the Android OS it will be a pretty big change as the better internet browsing experience will help make Android more appealing to users.
I think this is a great idea, ICS with chrome. I just hope it will be fast!
wah nice if chrome is the default browser in ICS
The android stock browser is not bad, but it's only not bad,no more.
And It's not based on chroome, but it has webkit like chrome
I was using these two apps just fine since the beginning of TFP but now I can't see any of my bookmarks when using the APW Bookmark widgets. It'll show stock browsers bookmarks but not Dolphin browser anymore.
Can anyone help me figure out a solution or should I email Dolphin browsers developer about this?

i'm experiencing the same thing and was about to post about it too would love an answer or alternate widget suggestion
Im guessing DB updated and changed something that doesnt make it as compatible. I wish I noticed it sooner so I could just roll back the updates. I use that widget alot >_> it's annoying now having to go into the browser now and pulling up the bookmarks lol
Lazyness at its finest.
Hi guys,
As I've written in the Android Pro Widgets thread,
Dolphin updated their application and one of the changes was blocking the access to bookmarks. What it means is no application except for official Dolphin apps can access the bookmarks list so it can no longer work with Android Pro Widgets.
We contacted Dolphin and hope to resolve this as soon as possible.
Please be patient

Thanks!!! Greatly appreciate you popping in and letting us know what's going on! Very much appreciate it.
Hi again,
As of now it seems like we won't be able to support Dolphin Browser anytime soon.
Per their request we implemented it as a separate Add-On a while ago. All left is for the apk to be signed by them like they did with other 3rd party Add-ons (and some cosmetic changes...).
Unfortunately they recently informed us they might not be able to support us (???) at this point. My attempts to explain it is already implemented have failed with no answer.
I didn't understand it at first until I saw their new bookmarks widget update today. I guess they thought they can do it on their own (You decide if they got it right).
Anyway, I tried my best and it really exhausted me so please understand why I'm giving up on that one.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm looking for an alternative to the stock one. Why do you like it so much? And did you try chrome, firefox or any the other browsers out there?
+1 I use this browser for its floating capability. It works great in that respect.
Does anyone know if there are any other apps like this? It would be nice to maybe be able to do this with any app.

I hit thanks by accident lol. The developer who makes this browser also makes Stick it! the floating video player, a floating calculator, and floating terminal emulator. The maker of A.I. Type keyboard make a floating split keyboard (useful on the Note when using tablet mode). Those are the floating apps I know about.
As far as any app having the ability to float, there is a thing called Cornerstone that allows for floating windows with up to three apps at once. I believe it's being used on tablets and I heard it may be implemented into CyanogenMod but I don't know much about that. Here's a link:

Wow, nice find. It has a great interface. I LIKE!
The floating Window really does make multitasking seamless. The only sticking point I have encountered is os related. The excruciatingly slow upgrade schedule imposed by at&t/Samsung means a large base of gnotes users are still on the "offical" bloated gingerbread rom.
If you want flash support on this browser, then you will have another reason to upgrade to ics.
Just what do you think you're doing, Dave? Dave, I really think I'm entitled to an answer to that question.
this and stick it are sick! Good to show off the multi tasking our phones are capable of and to use up all this screen!

Depending on your device Chrome works flawless (On Nexus 4 is impressive, whereas on S3 was a bit slugglish, so pretty much device dependant). You can also try to search in here for AOSP Browser which is the default browser for AOSP ROM's and behaves pretty well too ^^

Dolphin works great, even though i don't like the fact it used to reset my openened tabs after reboot (I usually stack over 20 tab to read later or similar, and that nerfed a bit my experience even it works great, definitely worth a try!). Maxthon used to be a nice browser back in my Sensation times, it's been a while since I used it but some dev's even include them on their builds, so worth a try as well.
As nearly everything in android world you should just try it, usually worth the experience because it hardly depends on device and use (for example, my "special" use and Dolphin browser).
Best regards,
