Just got the s3 2 days ago and when i connect it through kies its telling me my phones firmware cannot be updated through kies. Is anyone else on rogers getting the same thing?

I did the update within the phone via setting ..did not try kies yet..but if you only want the update do it from the phone...setting/about/software update

I am getting the same message on kies, cannot update there. Has there been an update? I have checked a few times on the phone and keep getting no update available. I am on build number IMM76D....is there a more recent one?

Did you actually update to a newer firmware version or are you just referring above to checking for an update? If you did update, please let us know what version you are on so we can confirm we are on the latest version. Thanks.

Mine gives the same, I can't update through Kies.
ro.build.display.id=IMM76D.I747MVLALE8
This is it ..but it did a small update when i got the phone ..it said connecting..downloding..and when i rebooted it said android is upgrading for like 5 seconds . But it was tiny..maybe it was the carrier update or something like that..
Now its saying up to date as soon as i touch the update button

I have the same build on my phone. Interesting, mine came with that build in the box. Could be carrier specific.

I had the problem too where it wouldn't accept the model. Had to flash modem back to original Gingerbread modem.

Turn off phone hold down the volume down button and the power button until it pops up I believe that's correct haven't done it in awhile
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
And you might have to flash a GB modem as mark did

Kies does the same on mine. And my Note is stock unrooted.... Kies always asks me to update to the newest version, it appearz to update but when it starts up again, back to phase one

I just called Samsung and they told me to wait 72 breaking hours and then it should work....I've waited long enough for ICS...and now this crap...no other methods worked so i guess im stuck regardless

This may have been a test release where they open the flood gates for a short while and then close it again.
I doubt it is due to the massive amount of updates since it was via Kies and not OTA, not many people would check that every day (in my opinion)
Sorry guys. Hopefully something works out soon)
Anyone know why kies keeps saying installing hotfix but wont install. Removed and redownloaded twice. Got link from samsung.

did you entered your S/N and Model number in cap's? that what i had to do this morning when i updated my phone to ICS, it wouldn't work with lower case letters but when i put it in capital letter it worked.
RE Kies Wrong S/N
When I enter the serial number and model, I get a screen with "Chinese?" symbols and an ok button. When I select OK, it brings me back to the enter serial number and model screen. I've reverted back to original GB radios, and still the same thing.
Any ideas?
After i downloaded kies my phone connected and finished update. Awesomeness

It's an upgrade for GingerBread not for ICS. If you're already with ICS, of course, you'll not see any update. The message however will come to everyone. At least, we have our warranty back! Cheers
Finally! Now just wait for the update to JB

I was ironic about the update JB. The history of Motorola does not allow us to dream. I received notification of ICS but it was with the last rom. I am thinking seriously about buying a HTC next year. A pity that only meet the Mercado Livre in Brazil.

I've already rooted/unlocked my phone, and I'm running the base ROM. Is it safe to install this update? I haven't seen anyone mention it, so I'm thinking it's probably alright. However, I figured it would be safer to ask anyway, given the "do not allow any OTAs to install without asking if they are compatible" warning in the FreeGee thread .

I don't think it will install if you're not on stock. I think the install will fail.

In currently running stock firmware but rooted. I'm in the 3 network in the UK. I checked the other night to see if an update was showing and nothing, and I've been checking periodically over the last few weeks.
Tonight I thought I would give it a go and I am currently downloading a 548.36mb update. Does anyone know what this is??
Sent from my LG-D802 using xda app-developers app
Its kitkat buddy
It has to be Lollipop, pal
For real?! I didn't think I would get the OTA as I am rooted. Plus I've not heard anyone else getting it.
Is it sad that I'm stoked about this?!

Just attempted to update but Xposed and Root got in the way. No way to unroot the phone without a PC in guessing?
