Hi,
Having just tried female to female usb connected to the oem usb cable by samsung, was hoping it will be able to connect and detect a flash or external drive but it did not.
So the question is this, since a usb is universal, would it be because of the oem cable or missing support from the kernel?
Even if power is supplied through, nothing was detected but power and it started to charge.

Good to see that, as it should be handled by the o/s...
USB Host mode?
Seen a youtube video introduced a special usb dongle as an accessory which turns the microusb port into usb host mode and it will allow keyboard and various other devices to be connected.
Seems like it is not a usb host port on its own.
You need a USB cable that supports OTG. You can get one for a few bucks from Amazon. The kernel already supports attaching all kinds of USB devices, so just make sure you have the right cable.

Is it possible, on way or another to connect USB devices to the BA?
SDIO doesn't seem to be possible since the power is too low.
Any other possibilities, i would like to connect my USB 802.11g WiFi adapter to it (it has windows mobile drivers).
I also read somewhere about a Sync 'N' Charge cable, does that do anything?
Thanks
From device discription it looks that the the cable support USB host. but i m not sure How the BA get 4.5v to run the usb devices.
The cable has a power input.
will the normal charger is applicable to that input?? cause there is no power adaptor with the cable.
if the normal charger fits that port, i will definetely order that, just as a spare charger part, because i highlz doubt to get the ba as a usb host, and if it worked at all, then only with proper drivers and also probably just with power connected, i don't see a connection with any usb storage stick, but as mentioned before, i will give it a try, as soon as i know about shipping to germany.
Are p500 hardware support USB OTG ?
nexus one has proved it

No and not in future
PS: you should have posted this in general thread, this is Development thread.
usb otg
Not working out of the box.
My setup:
"manufactured" otg cable
usb hub
usb cable from an external hdd (with two big USB connectors)
Connected the manufactured otg cable to phone, the Y usb hdd cable connected to the computer for power and to the manufactured usb otg cable and also to the usb hub.
In dmesg I get something about OTG going into low power mode, but nothing about the usb hub connected or about the usb keyboard connected to the usb hub. Just as connecting the charger.
I do not know if this is fixable. (kernel modules or something).
as a note, I used that Y cable in order to provide power to the USB, as the phone apparenly does not provide any power (if using only the diy otg cable the usb hub does not power).
With the power provided from the computer (the second USB plug on the Y cable has only the power pins connected, not the data pins) the usb hub powers up but it is not recognised by the phone, and the phone starts charging (power flows from the computer tot the USB hub and to the phone) but does nothing else.
I bought a micro usb to usb female adapter so I can use my usb wireless adapter so I can put it in monitor mode (for legal purposes only)
How would I get this to work
I plugged it in and it just sat there doing nothing
I also tried with usb flash drives and nothing happened
Any help?
Hi,
Has anyone managed to successfully find a solution to give an hdmi out display from the note pro 12.2, at the same time as a usb port via otg cable.
What I essentially want to do is to have the note pro at my desk connected via hdmi to a monitor, and still be able to use usb devices such as pen drives etc. Is there any kind of cable combination that will allow for this? I've not been able to find anything.
Thanks
Duncan
I have these:
Usb 3.0 Hub:

Usb OTG (with connection for external charger, a must have if you're gonna power devices via USB)

USB A to microUSB adapter, this one is for the HDMI cable:

You should try all-share-cast or screen cast(via miracast/chromecast) for video and audio. That would do everything easier.
I have connected an OTG cable to my device, I also have a powered USB hub connected to the other end of the OTG cable, When I try using a male to male USB cable to go from the USB hub to my computer my phone does not talk to the computer. Can I by making a special cable, have my phone talking to the computer and OTG?
I hope I explained this well enough
Thanks hope this helps you help Clancey Aggen

USB works via a type of slave/host setup. A typical scenario would involve plugging your device into a PC for file-transfer, in which case the PC is acting as 'HOST', and the device is acting as 'SLAVE'.
However, If your phone is operating in USB OTG mode then it is operating in host mode and therefore your PC would be unable to connect, as you have two devices hosting connections, but neither is seeking connection. Overcoming this limitation although plausible, is practically speaking, a waste of time in presence of other solutions.
The cable ends determine which mode to put it's respective device in. The Male MicroUSB-B end (the OTG end) has an extra pin that's jumped to another. This signals the "OTG" host mode in the device. "OTG" only applies to the MicroUSB, as the "On-the-go" functionality means it can be either host or slave.
May I ask what you are attempting to accomplish and/or why you need this setup? Just trying to transfer files or more?
Edit: my theory is you expected something akin to two-devices on a network hub. A typical USB hub is slave-device, used to share a bus lane together with other usb slave-devs, e.g. "turn one port into 4". Do not confuse with the similarly-named Network Hub. While it technically is still serial communication, thats on a whole 'nuther level functionality-wise. (Nethubs echo any received messages across all lines. USB does not do this to my knowledge.
