[Q] Can I access Playstation Store on S3?? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I'm prepared to be told this is a silly question , but thought I'd ask anyway, as googling it hasn't brought me a clear response.
I have an S3. I understand that if you have a sony xperia play, you can access the playstation store and download titles. Is there any way that this can be accessed from a non-sony phone? Like my S3!
Or is there an alternative way to play what they can play on my phone?
Hope the negative responses I'm bound to get aren't too harsh!
Thanks!

Depends on what you want to play.
There are several PSX and other emulators out there, so if you want Playstation1 you're good to go.
Playstation Store has afaik never been cracked/ported to other platforms but the underlying games could theoretically run on your device with Chainfire3d.
The Xperia Play has a Qualcom Adreno205 GPU, I'm not sure if it's supported by the generic Qualcom plugin for Chainfire3d but it might.
The question in itself isn't really silly since the Xperia Play is an ARM-based Android handset with inferior performance as compared to the S3 so there is no obvious reason why a port should not work. If you'd ask how to get your PS-Vita games to run on the S3 that would be another question but the Vita also runs on ARM so... =)

Thanks, I'd thought about a PS1 emulator. But thought it might be easier to get the games from PS Store if they're there for the taking!
What's Chainfire3D? App? Mod?
Thanks again for your help

Chainfire3D is an app/mod requiring root which can emulate the graphic engines of other phones so as to be able to play games not officially released for the platform or which are only available in a lower resolution.
It is mostly used to play Nvidia Tegra1/2 (THD) games on the performance-wise superior but less hyped Mali GPU in our S3.

Chainfire3D sounds interesting. I've not come across a game I've wanted to play that was incompatible, but nice to know there are options out there.
So with this method I could play incompatible games, or as you previously suggested I could use an emulator, which are perfectly acceptable as I'm not a HUGE phone gamer, but thought I might as well abuse the tech I now have!
But no known way of accessing and downloading games from the playstation network?
Probably a question for the Xperia Play forums but, is it only PS1 games that they have access to? No playstation network exclusives games like Journey, or PixelJunk Monsters?

Gameloft games question

Hello I have an xperia play and bought some games on Gameloft. So just wandering if it's possible to transfer the same games to use on my galaxy, or I have to purchase the games again.? Also its not very clear which games actually work on the galaxy, the game hub only has a phew games that cannot be it surely.?
I'm probably not qualified to answer this, but I'll give it a stab - assuming you brought them through the Android Market, they're associated with your Google account and you can install them on other devices without having to re-purchase them.
Simply add your Google account to the new phone, go to the "My Apps" page and you find them in your list of Purchased but not installed software.

Gameloft are greedy. The games are imei locked and device specific. So you need to wait for sgs2 compatible games, and repurchase them afaik
I don't approve of their business model, so I simply don't buy or use Gameloft games. They could put games on market, but they would only sell it once per person...
I think it's that greed that forces piracy to prosper honestly I don't support piracy but imagine i already paid over 25 £ to Gameloft and they now want me to pay another 25£ imagine. No wander why the iphone itunes model is much better and android is way to fragmented.

I wouldn't necessarily blame this on android fragmentation..
I'd point the finger more towards the greedy companies, like gameloft, for making their games in such a way that it encourages "fragmentation".
I mean half the arguments against Android are actually based on the companies that provide apps and software, not the android platform itself...
Just my two cents.
Back on topic:
But you gotta admit, gameloft games are pretty damn good.. if not a bit overpriced due to the incompatibility issues..

If you e-mail them they will usually just send you the correct version for your new phone, their customer service is usually pretty good, I've never had to buy the same game again for another device, at least not yet.

There are no versions available via the website and GT-i9100 is not listed yet, you can currently only get them via the Games Hub and some of them look like cut down versions of the games, blocky textures and poor draw distance.
Hi
I bought over 15 gameloft games for my Galaxy S1. I have got now S2 and NONE of those I bought work ( I always save original donwloaded .apk) I emailed gameloft saying as well I can't even access their site as I'm getting NOT RECOGNIZED warning so as soon as I got update I will post it here.

It uses a different GPU to the Galaxy S so it's not likely to work, they will have to release versions for the Galaxy S2, once they do they will probably send you the updated apks if you tell them you changed your phone.
It's a shame Samsung didn't choose to go with the latest PowerVR GPU as that would have made things allot easier, Mali 400MP in the Galaxy S2 does not support some texture compression formats some developers are using so that will also cause problems.
Of course if they just stuck to the OpenGL ES 2.0 specs to start with we wouldn't have this problem.
Hi and thanks a lot for explanation. It is real shame and I hope this amazing phone won't be suffering of too many uncompatible games as that would damaged it's great potential. It is fast like a wind and I can't wait for some polished custom roms like last Darky's 10.6 by which I was really impressed on my Galaxy 1

[Q] Are Sony games interchangable between devices?

I am thinking of buying a Sony S1. I will be buying a Vita, already have a PSP, PS3 and Play.
My questions are about the games; so far I have only bought a few downloadable games from Sony for both the PS3 and PSP.
1. As with Android, can I purchase one game and play the game on multiple devices (I am really just thinking of the Vita and S1)?
2. What games will play on the S1. I have read on this site PSone games. But what about old PS2 games?
3. Are there lots of Sony games available for the S1 or will I struggle to find my old favorites?
Thanks and sorry if some of the questions are vague.
From what I can see it is no different than what you can play on your Play. E.g. a few ps1 games. Almost certain that ps2 games will never be supported. If you have the original ps1 games get fpse and then you can emulate them on the play and s1

GTA3 was originally a PS2 game
1. No, if you buy a game for the tablet s it will not be available on your vita, ps3, etc. Sucks, I know, cause I have multiple devices as well. They have to format/emulate the games differently. Hopefully in the future they'll streamline it, so for now I'm hesitant to purchase too much.
2. Officially I think it's only psone games now, but unofficially you can download emulators from the market that'll run just about anything and some of them will work with the native PS3 controller support as well!
3. There are about 12 in the "official" Sony store with more stated to come. There is, of course, the emulator alternative in the market and that will open up the window to just about whatever you want.
Thanks for all the replies, they have all been very helpful
I am thinking about buying the S1 and wanted to know if integration with Sony games would be a deciding factor.
For me, based on the replies I don't think it will bean important factor in my decision.
It seems that there are not that many games, they are all old and it sounds like I would need to buy multiple copies (or run emulators).
However I am still very tempted by the S1. I particularly like the form factor.
Thanks again
Games bought from PS Store on tablet, 'should' be re-downloadable on other playstation certified devices (Xperia Play, PSVita .etc) From within the PSStore app. It worked for me! I now have 5 free PS1 Games bought on my tablet on my Xperia Play.
To clarify Sony tablet games bought from PS Store should work on PSVita as it is playstation certified and part of the same ecosystem! Hope it helps!

Whats the main limitation(s) for the S3s gaming capability?

Good evening ladies and gents.
I'm about to jump off the fence and buy a new phone (and since I'm posting here I guess you've figured that I'm seriously considering the S3). But before I choose I want to know which games I can expect to be able to play. I stumbled onto the Tegra Zone a few months after I bought my Desire HD and was quite disappointed that it didn't support the content. I know the S3 doesn't have Tegra but stil a lot of the games are still supported/available.
I've now read through dozens of threads but I'm unable to find out how one figures out which games the S3 can run. In some cases I see thats it's just the "ultra high" setting that isn't supported (1. is this correct?). 2. Is there a different version of most games that are meant for non-Tegra devices or is it the exact game but some of which lack the highest graphics settings? Lastly: 3. Are there any games that S3 owners won't be able to play in the foreseeable future?
I would really appreciate input to any of my questions. Have a good day/night
It runs Mali-400 games and if you decide to Root just install Chainfire 3D and you can run most Tegra and any other games.
Gaming is very good. Thats all i have to say
Sorry i couldnt be of more help.
Have u tried looking on the playstore? With a friends phone or on the web page. Google searched? There is a thread about good ganes in the s3

S3 can play anything but Tegra3 Specific games, there is an app made by Chainfire it's called "Chainfire3D" where it emulates all different graphic chips in the market, so basically you can play all non-tegra and tegra games that aren't Tegra3 specifc as mentioned above. The app needs root in order to work. Dead trigger is the latest game to come out and it plays VERY nice and smooth. Shadowgun tegra2 version works, Pinball THD, Fruit Ninja THD, NBA Jam works nice PES2011, Blood and Glory work pretty well... I'm not much into gaming, those are the games I own, and I can say they are the ones that will hammer the CPU and GPU pretty good. I'm not sure what you mean with "ultra high settings" everything works. remember that the screen size is 1280x800 so some games that are made for smaller screen will have black bars or some cropping or some weird behavior, but I've only seen that on "time killer" games, can't recall which game was that showed this behavior, but still playable.
Hope that straight things out a bit for you.
Chain fire helps with some tegra games but it's not perfect eg sonic 4 ep 2 lags like treacle and some tegra games don't work at all. However the graphics hardware in the gs3 is the fastest in the world for a smartphone so there's a lot of potential. But tbh gaming without hardware buttons is pretty crap anyway.

Thank you all for your replies.
I had already read through the post you mentioned slking1989 but even though it assured me that a lot of quality games are supported it didn't give me a definite answer regarding how to determine beforehand if a game will run or not (like "system requirements" or similar). I'm guessing the reason HQ games doesn't show up in the Play store on my current phone is that it doesn't support themn thus it's no points showing them but since I don't have the phone yet I wanted to do some research.
My choice is between the S3 and the HOX but after your replies the S3 was pushed further ahead in the race (only kept back by the insecurity around Tegra games really). Now I just have to decide which color to get.
This may help u decide

Does Unreal Engine Games only work for Tegra devices?

I was wondering if these kind of games (developed on the unreal engine) only work for high-end devices with tegra 3? Because I recently download this game, "Dark Meadow" and it force closes. So I want to know if it is possible to run these kind of games on Xperia Phones. I read about Chainfire 3D but the truth is some games doesn't work if you have this driver installed. (And I really didn't see a lot of improvement, so...)
It is possible to play this game Dark Meadow on my Live? And can anyone tell me what Sony smarthpones have Tegra 3? Thanks in advance....
I'm really dissapointed, because the game seems to be good, I was reading that this company "Phosphor Games" also would release a new game called "Horn" which really seems awesome, is like a combination of Zelda and Infinity Blade, but since I couldn't run this game on my phone, I don't think I could run this game when it comes out..... :C
as far as i know sony don't have any phones with a tegra 3 or a quad core processor
in case you got it/bought it from the Play Store, you should report this as an incompatibility issue. But in case you got it from somewhere else, well, you're bound to expect the unexpected haha. Some games work just fine on our Xperias, yet the Store refuses to show them on my phone. 9mm is one of those rare ocassions.
Let's see how this develops, I am worried about gaming support for our devices too.
Yeah I've got it from the Play Store, it's a free app and it says there that my phone is compatible. But I read in other sites that this game is only supported on tegra 3 devices, so I think that's why it didn't work on my phone. I know there are some games that in the Play Store says they aren't compatible with our phones but they are. For example I play Modern Combat 3 on my Live. But I have to modify the build.prop so that it identifies my device as a SK17 which is compatible with almost all gameloft games. I'm worried to about support for our phones because I think in the future there will be a lot of games that need tegra 3 and would be really cool, but maybe we would not be able to enjoy them in our low-end phones.
Exactly. I remember reading an article on the frontpage about the SGSIII running Tegra-exclusive games, which was pretty cool, but I wouldn't hope to see that coming to our devices, let alone running smoothly.
But all games based on the unreal engine are ONLY for tegra devices? Because I also was reading gameloft will release their first unreal engine based game and it would be a shame that we won't be able to play it only because our phones are non-tegra capable.

is it possible to port these 2D pc games to android

I want to port "Desperados Wanted Dead or Alive" and "Robin Hood the Legend of Sherwood" (two of my all time fav pc games) to Android. I used to spend so much time playing these games when I was a lil kid. Amazing games. Dont understand why they havent yet been ported to Android. I reckon they would sell a few millions on the GPlay if the pricing was right. (Profit guaranteed) I would definitely buy them if they were available on the GPlay. Anyway since they are not and probably never will, I am trying to find out how to port these games to android. Since they both are 2D point and click games they would be perfect to play on the android platform and also much easier to port to android than 3D pc games.

If they are available on ps2 then you can download the roms of them (game .bin file) and run them in a PS2 emulator on android. Same with PSP games, there is PPSSPP!
You may find roms on coolrom.com!

I don't know about these games. But if they are DOS based games (like Dangerous Dave, Digger, Prince, Prince of Persia),
then you can use DOSBox to play the games.
More information is at DOSBox Play Store Page here.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fishstix.dosbox
Even if these games are not for DOS, you seem to be a person interested in old games (just like me). Then you can play those charming old games on DOSBox.
Press Thanks if helped.
Dangerous Dave
Dangerous Dave is already on Google Play, it's pretty good too.
