[Q]Galaxy S3 Not Reading Sim Card? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the international GS3 and got it unlocked with a code and it worked fine on Orange network, while the phone is on Three, so then i flashed Omega 7 and rooted and it will no longer detect the Orange network, its just a circle with a line through on the status bar.
I thought maybe it wiped the unlocked but checked and it still says the phone is unlocked so i thought i would test and put back in the Three sim and it worked fine and then i had a old pay as you go o2 network sim and put that it and it gets a signal and the option to top up.
So i thought maybe the sim is faulty, and put it into my iPhone 4S and it gets signal and reads it, i followed the instructions and revered back to Stock to see if that fixed it but still the same problem.
Anyone have any ideas why or how to fix this?

Check your IMEI number

How would that help?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk

If your phone lost it's IMEI number, it will revert back to a default-number.
Some networks still accept the phone with that number but most don't.

Just checked with the three card in usig *#06# and a imei comes up so it can't be that or should I t do it with the not working orange card in?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk

IMEI is your device ID. Does it match the IMEI-number on the box or under the battery of your phone?
If not, you're on a generic one.

Yep its the same as the one on the box. I hm

Try another Sim and also check the Sim is locked into the receptacle properly.

I've tried two other network Sims and both work as well as the orange Sim works in my I phone.
Weird thing is when the orange sim. Is in the phone it shows the apn correct for orange but I just get the circle with line through where the signal should be.

CSC includes Orange ????
Network settings entered manually if not .
jje

Your SIM might be locked to your iPhone's IMEI or does it work in other devices?
I've only heard a few reports of such practices and none so far with Orange (regardless of country)

As above....check apn settings

I checked apn under three and the orange wasn't there. I put in orange sim and three apn is gone and orange are there and the correct settings but still the same stop sign looking symbol where network signal should be.
Not sure what csc is.
It worked before in the g3 before I flashed to the omega rom so don't think it could be locked to a phone

phone's imei doesnt match true imei
hello,
what does it mean that the imei given by the phone doesnt match the original imei written on the back of the phone?

If for some reason the rom you put on your phone screws up the IMEI and replaces it with a generic IMEI you now have a different IMEI than before. This was happening with the SGS2's a while back when flashing certain roms... Was fixed pretty fast and haven't heard about it happening again BUT there's always a chance and no guarantees...

Is there anyway to fix it back without any backups?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

It's actually happening quite a lot with the S3, especially the US-versions
Some people have claimed it to have been fixed when flashing a Stock ROM through Odin, but should it not be fixed then you'll need to have it repaired by Samsung.

There have been a few users claiming to have fixed it without Efs backups in the sgs2 forum (from fading memory). Have a search there, as any method will /should be similar
Worth a search/try, or as posted above, will need to return to Samsung

Use "k-tool" to backup your imei and keep it in a safe place(upload to dropbox and PC) and use APN manager to backup apn settings. Btw is a brilliant app to have when traveling
Edit:u can recover your missing imei nr. But be sure to have the original efs folder, especially NV-data.bin most not have tampered with

Galaxy S2 Strange problem?

Hey guys.
Got a few problems with my GS2 I don't know what has caused it, was working fine checked my voicemail and then it stopped working?
on my pull down notification bar i have "emergency calls only", If i pull out my Sim the phone knows there is no Sim in there, and if i put it back in i can copy all my contacts from Sim card to phone so the card reader is fine.
Even though it says Emergency Calls only, if i dial 911/999 It says "Number is out of service"?
If i turn on the Internet (3G) My Internet will turn on but i will not get any 3G icon along the top of the bar?.
I'm thinking of re-installing the latest Android 2.3.5? but i have no idea of what i need
If people could help me out! i would be very great full!

Yeah can see all that
Android - 2.3.5
Baseband - i9100XXKI4
Kernal - 2.6.35.7-i9100XWKJ1-CL647431 - Is this the right one? for that baseband? I'm not sure if i flashed the kernal correctly?
I flashed the kernal through ODIN in the PDA Section? is that correct?
Build Number - GINGERBREAD.XWKJ1
That's correct.. How about checking your sim if you put it right.. Alot of people sometimes put the sim in the wrong decision or fliped it upside down and didn't realized it.. It happened to me once

Ics update gone wrong(pin problem)

Hello everyone,
Last night we updated an s2 to the original ics, using the ota.all went well during the presidure, but later we found out that it can't receive calls, or make any calls, and it cannot register to the network. The Sim is greek, and the phone was never flashed with room in the past, everything was original from Samsung.
Amy ideas?
But it does ask for pin code and reads the sim card?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
No pin, doesn't ask for it.nor locs the screen.
I looked in apn and there is nothing there.
So it doesn't recognize sim card?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
I guess not.
But we have replaced it with a brand new card, same number and network.
And is the new card working?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Have you tried to input a new APN? You can get the specific APN for your carrier with an internet search or a phone call to your carrier.
The new is not working either.i tried the apns ,i have the same carrier. But it is not able to save them.
The phone is working fine when i put my own sim in it.
Go to about phone and see if your imei is empty. If it is empty then your efs got corrupt and I guess ypu don't have backup of it. If you do have a backup then restore it. Otherwise I hope you still have warranty left as your going to need it.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Imei is there, checked it with both cards
So, after searching alot,i have found out, that if i disable pin it all works fine. But the screen doesn't lock, and i can't use pin.As soon as i enable pin again then no more calls.
Any ideas?

My imei is messed up

my imei is messed up the guy i got it from unlocked it from the galaxy unlock app which finds my unlock code and so when i try to call up samsung and give them my imei they say they cant find the phone and so do any of you guys know how to fix that
Your imei is located under your battery on a sticker on the phone. Call your carrier and give them the correct imei to enter into their system. No need to call Samsung.

I was messing around with Rogers GS2 LTE i727R to use it Mobilicity (AWS). I had to flash a T989 ROM (T-mobile) and radio, and somewhere along the way, I messed up and IMEI disappeared.
I just started from scratch (factory reset/flash rom/flash radio) and IMEI returned and the phone is working.
You may want to completely wipe the phone and flash your rom/kernel/radio carefully.
Oh, and make sure your phone is unlocked as well.

Big big problem!!

hello my galaxy s3 has got a big problem..everything works except data!!i can't make any calls, can't go to internet( wifi works)..what can i do???i got to use like an ipod...lol

I don't know if you tried to pull out the simcard and clean the contacts. This was a common issue on the HTC Desire HD and this little fix worked fine.

Updated to Jelly Bean??
if yes go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918601
Is the phone new? Has it ever worked for you? Have you considered the fact that it could be network locked(SIM locked)?
My phone ALWAYS shows "Not registered on Network" when I'm at home, that's because signal is terrible since I updated to JB (modem related).
Have you tried different SIMs from different networks? Have you tried your current SIM in a different phone?
[the phone is from 29 june..always worked bit one day data stopped working.. i got a HTC sensation and the SIM works fine in that phone/SIZE]

Ok,
so here comes the question my girlfriend always asks me
"What did you do between it working, and it no longer working?"
You say data doesn't work, does that mean you can make phone calls?
I didnt do anything it just stopped working and i cant do phone calls...its like using an iPod.. maybe someone blocked my imei?could it be possible?

Yes, it's entirely possible, but you'll need to check with your provider. There is no way of checking from the device itself if the IMEI has been blocked.
Did you buy the phone new?
You could, potentially, be extremely unlucky and someone blocked the wrong IMEI code when attempting to block their own.
Ye it was new..there is no way to make it work then?

Well, if it really has been blocked, you should get in touch with your provider, and potentially have to go through some lengthy process of proving to them you legitimately own the device and didn't block it yourself. It's unlikely though, as I've never heard of a device being removed from the block list before.
Your other option is to leave the country, it will work in another country
Failing that, return it to Samsung telling them it just stopping working, you did nothing, and insist they replace it.
Probably wrong Kernel, happened often to me on my old sensation

What network are you on? I had to go to t mobile web site to get configuration settings sent to phone. All was then ok. You are not providing enough information, Network, whether phone had ever worked, if it has been modified in any way etc.etc.

Dodgy Phone

Right details. Phone doesn't make calls it just ends straight away and it doesn't receive texts. Data works on Orange SIM card I believe the phone was used on orange. IMEI matches that under battery. I don't think it's blocked as data works? It says Orange TMobile in notification area.
I tried other sims Three and GiffGaff and it doesn't prompt for unlock code however only says emergency calls only. Any ideas people?
It's either partially unlocked or you need to flash another modem.

I'll try another modem but KH3 reported working on O2/giffgaff. How can it be partially unlocked? What does that even mean?
That it may look unlocked to all networks but it actually is unlock to some carriers, or something.
Get galaxysim unlock and check it out.

Oh I already tried that app and it says unlocked everything says unlocked! Starting to think it is blocked now...
Try another modem.

Thanks for the help but four modems and an update to jellybean later it's still emergency calls only. Got to be blocked.
Call your carrier & find out.
