You can't roll back because the boot loader has changed, you will brick if you try to roll back from the ota to 2.3.6

Damn... i officialy hate ICS.... Gingerbread ran so much better.

No... you can not. You will brick. New bootloader for ICS guarantees this.

Time to call verizon and get a refurb.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app

I'm bummed about ICS, too.
I did the update and headphone jack no longer is recognized. I use it everyday in my car. It's not lint in the port.
Anyone have ideas about a fix? I'd rather not root, but I'm on the road enough that I can't go on a trip without Pandora out the headphone jack in the aux port of my car...
Thanks,
Chris
UPDATE: Called Verizon and they immediately sent out a replacement. It was a refurb, but you couldn't tell at all. "Refurbs" are probably products that had the original retail boxes damaged. New phone is on 2.3.6... not sure I'm going to update again.

I just traded my galaxy nexus for a razr maxx today. I don't really care about down grading from ics cuz I know eventually the razr will get and I had the itch to move to another device.

Good timing, Verizon started to send out the OTA today, but there could be 2 weeks where it's distributed to everybody.

Looks like the previous owner rooted the phone but left the stock rom on here. Will still get the OTA or will be blocked?

It will lose root, but the OTA will go through fine.
Cool thanks. I really don't think I want to root this thing.

I recommend unrooting with Matt's utility just in case. You will get the update, but there could be issues. That is not the case most of the time, but it sometimes happens. I think it was a DROID pro update that messed up rooted phones. You should be fine though...

Google Now

Check out HTC Sensation theme and app thread. Google now will work on RAZR ics .211. With exception of voice search. But its a start and looks awesome can't wait until its fully functional.

Might be a dumb question since I'm new at this but can just install the apk for google now that was posted on the other thread and install it on my stock razr or do i need to root it first?

You need to be rooted, but Google just releases android 4.1 source, so a Jelly Bean build is in the works I'm sure. I would just be patient, it'll come soon enough

Yeah but we saw how long it took to get ICS ready for the razr. I doubt we get it before Christmas. You think with Google buying Motorola they would be the first to get anything after the nexus line of phones

Can I block OTA?

I just got a new razor Max. I hated ICS on it. Can I block the OTA or do I have to keep hitting cancel?
GINGERBREAD just runs better in my eyes.

You thunk they would of fixed ICS by now but still the Razr isn't the only phone that has problems with it.

Click on it -> choose "free app" option. Done
Now you won't have to worry about the update reminder anymore

I don't know if i'd call it a troll. I've yet to see a convincing reason for why I should upgrade. I'm still not sure whether I will do it, especially since it is a one way trip!
Wait till gingerbread out to razr.

A troll to not like Ics? I don't get that one. I don't want it either and used titanium to freeze the updater. Worked great. Ya'll enjoy ICS and I'll enjoy GB. Nice to have a choice.

Jellybean 4.1.2 update

I found a pretty easy way to get the JB update on my Razr Maxx.
Go here http://d-h.st/vCW on your phones browser and download the file.
Move the .zip to your SD card.
(If your unsure on how to do this i went into files>internal storage>find the .zip>long press and select move>click the back button on your phone>select SD card.)
Hold both volume buttons and power at the same time and scroll down to recovery.
Once in recovery select appl update from SD and find the file and select with power button.
Give it about 10-15 minutes BAM! Jellybean 4.1.2
"Found it", huh? lol

This is/was an official update. When they finally release another official update they will now have to include everybody updating from ICS as well as everybody who already took the JB update. Should be no problem to update OTA next time.

Im assuming when the official OTA comes out there will just be some bug fixes from what we have now. So far i haven't noticed anything everything is a lot smoother.

What gives here?
I installed this "update" as directed and was successful. However, my version is still 4.0.4 ICS but shows the 6.16.211 build. Is this supposed to be a Jelly Bean build or is this actually an ICS build?
Any clarification would be appreciated and thanks!

I am pretty sure you are still running ICS. Android and build should reflect the change. Did your lock screen clock change fonts? Notifications pull down change it's look?

Hi I am just about to receive the razr maxx running ics, its the uk version. Will I be able to update this uk version of the maxx using the method described by the OP ? I am assuming you have to root the phone to do this so would appreciate

Thanks for all replies

Will the root method for the December JB OTA update that got pulled work on this one? Or can root saver be used to update to the soak but keep root?
I use my wifi hotspot as my primary internet so I do not want to loose root, but the update I got in December that got pulled is not very stable.
I'm not sure i haven't updated yet. But from what I've read if you use ota root keeper it should save your root. I will report back when i update
