[Q] Formating 64gig SDXC - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

What is the best format for micro SDXC card? Should I stick with exfat? Or format it to something else?

Just got with FAT32; exfat is going to give you issues, and cwm recovery won't support it.

If you use windows, you can do right click > format > fat32. If you format via recovery of the phone, I believe it gives you an option. If you do it in linux, open the disk manager > unmount the disk > format > fat32.

If I plug it into an old HTC inspire it gives me an option to format it because it can't read it.. Will that put it in fat32? I don't really have the option to do it on a computer.

Back up all content on SD card.
Boot to AmonRA recovery. Choose to partition SD.
Choose no EXT partition, and no swap
There you go

Thanks, but i have already tried that, and it didn't work.
For those still having this problem, SD Formatter works perfectly for regaining the space in those ext2 partitions you no longer want.
Remember to backup all your important information from the memory card before formatting them.
If those wanting the link to download the software, pm me because I can't post links within posts yet.
SD Formatter works awesome. Just do a google search.
I just used Acronis Disk Director 11, (os win7), deleted the ext2 partition, and then to complete the task it will ask to reboot, then go back into DD and then resize to the full card. Again it will ask to reboot and that's all you have to do. Very easy.
thanks alot.......SD formatter works like a gem.....
Looks to work nicely. Thanks.
here is simple method that worked for me
i went to partition sd card option (after i had partitioned it wrongly)
then went to
advaced > partition sd > ext size to 128mb > swap size to 0mb... and i m done ...
recovered my 4Gb in 8gb card..
now installing MIUI ROM

Cant install or boot bricked?

I installed the new recovery and have been s-off lazypanda and now can only boot into bootloader and recovery but nothing else. I cant mount the SD card and cant flash or even wipe if i wanted to. What can i do?

Have you tried without the external? I it should mount internal by default

No I don't think so. I tried like the dickens to do it that way to no avail. The msd card won't be recognized as a separate drive from your device by your computer. You'll need to plug the msd card into the computer itself.

Many people would recommend "exFAT" file system, also some would recommend "FAT32" but due to the limitation of the file size, i won't recommend it, "EXT4" is good, but may not be a good choice for SDcard if you wanted to view the files on the PC using a "SDcard reader" one day, your sdcard then would be limited to read only, so you have 2 options:
1-format it as "exFAT"
2-just put it in the phone, Reformat the SD card with your phone Settings --> Storage/Storage & USB The file system on the freshly formatted SD card is the type that will give you the best performance with your phone.... in other words....(let the phone choose)

As i told you, Individual files on a FAT32 drive can’t be over 4 GB in size, but in exFAT it has no limitations, if it worked good for you in phone or pc then it's fine, if you faced any problems reformat it to FAT32.

1st off all. Why would you format your external SD card to F2FS. F2FS is only used for partitions like system/data(aka internal storage) and cache. There's no need to format your SD card to F2FS, all you can do now is format is back to FAT32 or exFAT (since that's what most SD card uses) and you should be able to use your SD card back.
Hit Thanks if this help you
