Hi guys,
Now that I bought a new phone (SGS3 ), I need a fast ROM for my Hero, I want to use it for GPS mostly, so it doesn't need to be the latest Android version available, not even a very pretty ROM, just need it to be fast and with a 100% working GPS.
What ROM do you recomend?
Thanks a lot :good:

Decked_X for speed.
Villainrom 12 for stability.
(ignore froyo roms - those have battery issues)..
I'd agree with 1ceb0x
Decked_x(2.3.7) is very fast (if gps wise you mean- 'satnav' then I have issues with Google Navigation(not auto rerouting)
Villainrom 13 (2.1)is also very fast- I use it with Launcher Pro- as on occasions I found with HTC sense a slight hang (roughly i'd guess 4-5 seconds) when pressing home.
Heroine++(2.1) is also very fast- as above i use Launcher Pro with this too- tbh couldn't really notice a difference between this and Villainrom 13 both are very fast
Sorry wrong phone forum. But the launcher info still applies.
4 to 5 seconds pressing home? That's horrible. You should try a different launcher. I know LPP I is supposed to be one of the fastest launchers but adw works a lot more fluid for me I've found. Also try ftl launcher or lightening launcher. Hell even zeam is faster than launcher pro. At the moment. As for roms I'd go with blazer for gb or Frankenstein fif02 for ics. I use Frankenstein now and ran GPS yesterday all thru new Orleans it worked perfectly.
Sent from my Rooted Samsung Epic 4G Touch, Frankenstein FF02 Rom ,
Am sold on the flashy transition effects when scrolling through homescreens with Launcher pro .- also i like the ability to be able to hide apps with LP.(getting off topic now -SORRY!)
recently been having dreadful Force close issues with VR13 and Heroine++ both 2.1roms. (Most likely my fault- think my sd card is getting clogged up from being flashed too many times-even though do all the wipes before flashing).
Flashed Heroine++ yesterday- going back to Decked_X today!
on that would recommend Decked_X
Hope you find what your after -Please let us know what you settle on.

Yeey xD!
Try Elelinux's latest version
You can also try the latest Elelinux-7.2-Hero-v3.9 Android 2.3.7. I was amazed at the speed. At least it feels faster than Decked_X.
SHPONGLE v3.5 with some gps.conf tweaking seems to be the fastest for me.

Where are you from?
Where can I get the latest radio?
My GPS doesn't see any satelites :S
Hi guys,
I think I'm staying with SHPONGLE v3.5, but I can't update my Radio, I've downloaded the file, renamed it to update.zip, put it in my sd, and in Recovery I choose Install update.zip from sd-card, then it shows that the upgrade was done correctly (very fast) and it says to reboot the device to end the instalation, but when I reboot I still have the old Radio version.
Any help?
Thanks

You must have S-OFF in your device. You can find out this information in the bootloader. It should be written "S-OFF". IF it is "S-ON" you will need to "S-OFF" it in the first time before trying to install a different radio version.
Glad everyone is using my rom. It makes me jumping for joy xD!

Bit of a wide open question maybe? But I'm sick of waiting for HTC to release the 2.1 update and want to move to a 2.1 ROM on my unbranded UK Hero.
I'm not bothered whether it's got sense or not I just want a fully working fast ROM.
What do people recommend.
Thanks
Sense - VillainRom 5.2 (5.3 should be out tomorrow)
Non Sense - ( I don't really use them so not sure)
Sense - VillainRom 5.2 (honestly ... In my personal opinion, there is a lack of competition)
non Sense - I've tried a bunch, but I just can't get into using a crippled phone.
I've been using Sense Hero 2.1 by Stickman
The font that is used in the pictures on Htcdevscene.info has reverted back to the normal font as people were'nt Happy !!!!
Everthing is working fine at the moment and another update is due out to fix some issues.
Can anyone compare this to the Villian ROM as I havn't tried that one.
Thanks
I tried almost all 2.1 roms on XDA, and even if developers made an awesome work on it, 2.1 is not worth it yet on Hero.
Roms are pretty stable, but not 100%, it's really slow compared to 1.5, and the battery drain remain huge.
Last thing, if you use Spotify, I think you can forget about 2.1 roms for now.....
MCR 3.2 is still the best
Well you say that but VillainRom 5.2 certainly is not slower than 1.5 roms

Do you guys feel that when using 2.1 roms, the phone starts out so fast and stable when you just flashed them then a couple of nights later, its so laggy and some things start to make problems like making phone calls or wifi stops working or acouple or the lag becomes more and more
my favorite 2.1? aHero 0.8: clean, stable and I don't have to complain about "issues"
Vanillain 2.0 JIT - AOSP maybe is better, I have to test it (Vanillain 1 was awsome)
One advantage about Vanilla ROMs: you can, if you want, use JIT

I have noticed that running the free app "autokiller" (which just tweaks androids internal settings) keeps it speedy at all times.

I also tried that, even with 2 or 3 applications running the phone remain laggy. Back to MCR after 1 month and a half on 2.1 (VillainRom and aHero), my hero is smooth again and I can use Spotify without having to kill all processes before.
And that doesn't prevent anyway from the battery drain
Was using Legend port but as was going for Holiday, downgraded to 1.5 for GPS. Now I'm itching to try but ROM development seems to be in explosion . Gone few threads for almost a week now and still cannot find any definitive answers:
a) Which build has the stable GPS without that on/reboot-off/reboot bug?
b) without sleep bug?
c) Bluetooth audio call working without any problem?
d) Without Camera green-blue tint
e) 95% stable? well close to 100% will be bonus
f) Can hold charge for at least of 7-10 hrs.
Thanks.
I'm using Legendary v1.3.5 right now and it looks good. Waiting for VillainRom 5.3 tho.. ;-)

I will check it out. been charging up my phone form all the flashing i did earlier.
The last version had an issue on my phone so ill try this. I will edit this post for you when I can update you.
Edit: I have installed it and it seems to be running fine. At first its a bit laggy like any new rom but after a couple of reboots it got better. I installed busybox and a bunch of other market applications and didnt find any issues yet. made a few test calls and no issues. I can't test the 3g connection since i am not in range and i barely have phone service, but i am sure it should work fine.
i cant seems to get back into the xrecovery by hitting back anymore so i guess i will have to redo that part. Otherwise no issues. Back to my working rom backup so i have a working phone for work
good luck!

No, not yet the Phone dial loop is still there. You should try Shipped 2.1 light which is a SE striped version, it is really fast and stable I got near 700~730 scores in Quadrant...
Sent from my X10i
3g conections workijg fine with ultralight 001 its faster 17mflops and over 700 in quadrant plus no bugs calls works everytime
Battery its running fine It just went down 1% sleeping 7 hours so thats amazing
Still got 50% since yesterday and i was playing alot with the phone so indeed its a nice rom

I got some problems with ultralight version but the light one works well for me.
Battery performance has got better and I can notice it's faster than the standard SE 2.1 rom. Still I don't like the fact that there is no gallery shortcut in the camera app it would work only with mediascape...
I don't remember if vignette has a shortcut for the gallery have to try it again (even if it's SO slow)
Please post question for the 2.1 aosp rom in the correct thread,
And yes i know that thread wasnt started when this was but i have to keep thread tidy

if your not sure try a sd build...once you try android you will never go back to wm6.5 (wp7 i dont know, never used it).there are varius builds, you have to try 3-4 (from those good ones) and see waht is made for you.dont forget every sd and every phone is diffrent,i have 2 HD2 with the same sd ,one works great with rafdroid and the other with coredroid....i dont know y...if you install froyo 2.2 ,2.2.1,2.2.2 builds DONT use task killers, they only make the phone not work good...froyo a nd gingerbread are smart OS's and they kill processes by them selves when they need it.for the "live" widgets (no sortcuts),email's ,and other sync programs(like bbc, whatsapp etc),and more then 2 emails make the phone with a little lag 1-2 sec because they are syncing every time.put only things you need and you'll see that you will ever want to go back to wm6.5....

I used DesireHD ROM in my HD2 for quite some time n really loved it for the Sense integration. But i migrated to GB wen it was launched n was surprised to see the diff in speed. There is no sense in GB yet(fully functional i mean) but i have seen tremendous improvement in speed with GB when compared to Froyo in HD2.I'm using all the launchers available n they r all smooth n fast in HD2+GB.At present i've settled for Go Launcher because it offers more than 7 homescreens.
So try GB in ur HD2 n i'm sure u wont complain about speed
I have used every ROM known to man and I am going to say the tytung NexusHD2 Gingerbread V2.5 ROM is the fastest most stable ROM. I love Sense ROMS, but they seem to lag after a few weeks of usage even with an app killer. Try it, you will always come back to it. The best part about owning the HD2, YOU HAVE CHOICES!!!

The biggest difference I can find by looking through both threads (Cherryblur/Ninja) is that Cherryblur also supports the international build of gingerbread (being 4.5.2.0 OrangeFR), whereas Ninja only supports AT&T.
However, there are other minor differences. One difference is that ninjablur uses the new market, whereas cherryblur uses the old market.
But cherryblur seems to be more of a complete rom from the info given in the first post. These are features that it offers that ninjablur doesn't (according to the ninjablur thread):
2048k SDCard Buffer
Circular Battery and Custom Data Icons
Battery fix implemented
10 Point Multi-Touch
Proximity updates in build.prop
Avoid screen staying on in calls
WiFi scan in build.prop set to 90
Preinstall script neutered to avoid install of AT&T crapware
QuickOffice app REMOVED
Tethering enabled to use stock Hotspot app!
AGPS Enabled
Shows a menu item under location for VZW, supposedly enables AGPS from YOUR network (not just Verizon)
MMS "Reply to all" Enabled
Untested, does it work for you?
Max recipients of SMS/MMS increased to 20
Untested, does it work for you?
Disabled the locking of Default APNs so you can edit them
GTALK WITH VIDEO!!!
WEBTOP OVER HDMI!!!
Re-added ICE for contacts
WAKE ON VOLUME HACK!
Also, don't be afraid of the red theme, you can download a theme uninstaller that will give your phone the stock look (while keeping all of the rom features).
I would go with cherryblur.

Actually both use the old market.
Also know that none of the available themes will work on the cherryblur rom.
My advice: try them both for a few days and see which you like best.
If you use CherryBlur, you might have to flash the 4.5.91 radio to get 3G working if you're on AT&T.

Ok thanks for clearing that up
I had the 4-5 beta, then ran CherryBlur .5 and switched back to beta 4-5. When CherryBlur 1.1 came out I switched and stayed until version 1.3. The webtop had stopped working for some reason so I tried Ninja .4 and the speed freak .5 version. Ninja runs really good but I think that CherryBLurs 4.5.2 runs better. Seems snappier between screens and opening apps. Like the person above said, try them all out. Heck about a week ago I was on rooted on 1.5.7 and have learned to flash, unlock my bl and managed to soft brick my phone LOL. I definately am learning. Being I had carpal tunnel surgery and I'm home from work the next few weeks, I might try to learn more about ROMs and stuff.
Two new kids in town... Cherry(3.142) and Alien...
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
I've been switching between the two and to me the latest Cherryblur seems the snappiest and most stable, I was getting a few FC's with Ninja SF.
However, I don't like the theme on Cherryblur and can't seem to flash mattedblues
Ninja Vs CherryBlur
I was on the same dilema for a few days reading long posts on the Ninja Trhead until I decided to give it a try(Ninja)
- Went directly to Build 2 and have not experienced major problems so far other than the Theme refuses to install.
I came from Ronaldo´s Rom which is very stable and also based on Ken´s work but a little slow and nothing special featurewise. Also I was experiencing a few connection problems and GPS a little slow to Fix.
Ninja is fast, as I said, theaming does not work for me (I think I know what I am doing but it just refuses to install from CWM nor Rom Manager) As I cannot get the theme to install and a few features are based on it, there is nothing more I can add on that regard.
I am concerned on the maturity of the rom and how slo it is movin forward in fixing bugs/adding features..
Sorry, cannot say much about C/b since I have not used it but from the paper I think is more mature and also based on the old market (Ninja is on the new whinch I dont get along well with.

I hear you, I like the eye-candy of the Honeycomb roms but I've always been a performance over eye-candy kinda guy.
That being said, I've tried all forms of roms on this tablet but the one I kept going back to (and currently using) is the Beasty/Clemsyn rom which ironically also uses VTL (Vegan Tab Launcher) as its default launcher.
Using SetCPU will allow you to OC to 1.6 as well as undervolt it. (gets kinda hot at 1.6 without undervolting)
Get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1084573
There is actually an easy way to get the 5.1.1 ROM on BL 2.0. Just install the 1.1 ROM and flash a 1.2 Kernel over it before rebooting. I used Clems newest Froyo kernel.
The fastest I've come across the the C&C ROM. Fast, and stable, with almost everything working. I say "almost" because myself and a few others have problems with gifs on web pages from some unknown reason. My second choice, and the one I use, is Brilliant Corners.
Btw Clemesyn has released the Ultimate froyo ROM. A port from notion ink. I think you should try it. The rom is in development thread

On my Gtab, Clemsyn+Beasty is way faster. Stable as a heavy rock. I've run a lot of different roms, but have found none that can match C+B for my usage.
BTW, if you do decide to go with Beasty, make sure that you get his latest update. I believe it was released 10-14-2011. I had an earlier version, and had some Skype issues with it. The new version has corrected those.
I should mention that I have also run the C+C rom (yesterday in fact) just to compare. Nope, doesn't come close to the speed of C+B.
Good luck.
Just flashed C+B from recommendations on this thread. Loving it so far.

Main thing is C+C has the Tap-n-Tap elements and C+B is a NI/Adam port which is more Android like.
I cannot stand the Tnt menus, so my daily is C+B. And its FAST, stable, and everything works.
Thank you everyone for posting. I will try out the Clemsyn+Beastly rom. It sounds like a true beast. Ill post back with my experience on it.
Personally i would try the rom Brilliant Corners. It is hands down my favorite Froyo rom.
Why don't you give VEGanTab 7.1 a try, it is Gingerbread 2.3. Everything works on that ROM, camera, BT, h.264 video etc. OC to 1.6 using Clemsyn's Gingerbread kernel.

Looks like an interesting rom, and I'd try it IF they could get the video camera working. I use Skype for video chats, and since the camera in VT 7.1 only works in still mode, not video, that is a deal killer for me.
Nice eye candy though.
I am having problems with this rom. I am posting here because I didn't have sufficient credit to post in the actual thread. I flashed and it works great, but now whenever I try to install an apk, it reboots every single time and never installs. Any ideas on how to fix this? I went back to factory firmware and wiped everything completely clean before flashing to this rom.

After flashing I always boot back into recovery and wipe data, wipe cache, and wipe Dalvic as well. Wives your issues I would also suggest fixing permissions.
Try this and see if it helps.
Thanks Joeb. Everytime I went back to recovery it was the built in recovery from the rom and not the cwm one. I just chose wipe factory/user data and all works now. One thing I noticed coming from gtacomb was the gtacomb browser had more features and was 10x faster than the one that comes with this rom. Anyway to get the honeycomb version of browser on this tab?
On my gtablet C+C is faster than C+B.... As everyone was saying that C+B was the faster froyo rom I gave it another try on past weekend but I still feel that C+C is faster and more stable...
Maybe it's because I'm not using any app to manage the overclock features?
Does VeganTab 7.1 have hardware acceleration? We might be able to have skype videochats working if we flash Clemsyn fix for that...
I have tryed many of Roms and Flashed my Gtab more then I can think of and always end up reloading Beast. To me its seems to be the most stable and reliable Rom for Froyo. I like that I can customize it with different boot Images and wallpaper to make it almost portray Vegan 7.0. If one was to choose a everyday user I would believe that Beast would be hands down the one to choose. As far as the browser issue I don't use the one it came with and use Dolphin HD. Way better and a perfect match for this Rom.
