[Q] Should I recommend the neo v or not. - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

Hi all,
I want to buy the neo v for my father (never used a smartphone) I want to know if the camera quality is so bad that he could not be satisfied with it or not.
I have limited choice when it to smartphone and the neo v is the only decent choice in my coutry (pricewise).

Wrong question on a Neo forum .. but the camera is just fine and 5 MP is something you can live with with good quality. compression rate has always been our problems but you get good images nevertheless. I would say go for it, he would just be happy. :highfive:

Thanks for your answer, I was reading review of how ppl are dissatisfied with the camera and got scared a little (and the 5mp neov camera clearly underperform from what I have seen compared to some similar camera).
and for the question I dont think the general QA is better place for my quesion.

He means that on this forum, whe probably have a biased opinion
I'd recommend a dual core phone like the Xperia U, or Galaxy S advance. The neo is not future proof, with apps become heavier in near feature, the phone will be too slow to use.

[Q] Which phone to buy?

Hi
one of my friends want to buy Samsung Galaxy Ace... n ofcourse i recommended it, but the dealer she went to, recommended sony xperia neo V saying that there are alot of customer complaints for Ace.
I just wanted to ask, what are the known issues for ace?
i personally use Galaxy Mini and Galaxy S2 and on neither of my devices i had any issues (that were manufacturer related)
thanks!
Go for Ace. I have been using ace for about 8 months now and there are no complaints.
the only complain is the battery life but it can be redemed if u know how to save battery and with some apps
He should ask what are those complains about. I absolutely love my ace, he's still a baby with 1year old and never got sick.
Sent from my GT-S5830 using Tapatalk
If you ask this in the Xperia Forum, you'll get completely opposite answers ... Ya better check here ... and Let's be honest. Xperia Neo is way better than MY (cause I have one) lovely ACE. It has 1ghz Processor and can record at 720... But see it by yourself!
mm i dont know about others.but they are wrong go with SONY ERICSSON XPERIA NEO V
better specs dude wvga, secondary camera ,512 mb ram and 1ghz processer and best one it is planned upgrade to v4.0 awsome. but it will be costlier than ace.............
go with SONY ERICSSON XPERIA NEO V

RAM is a major issue with this phone. Go for Xperia Neo V!
lol ok the answers were all mixes xD yet thank u all for replying
i totally love samsung.. infact want to work for it one day
what i heard though was ace had some signal dropping issues, which ofcourse m sure can b fixed with some upgrade (its just tht those who are totally novice and want to use a smart phone, dont really knw how to and then complaint!)
having said tht, my friend is also a novice so i think xperia neo will b good option.. jus tht its battery life SUCKS!
abt battery optimization.. (i've a youtube channel xD http://youtube.com/EdenDroidChannel)
i definitely knw how to optimize battery hehe
thank u all!!

It has to be the Neo V. Sony Ericsson have already released a beta ICS build and it is guaranteed an upgrade early next year. The Neo V is superior in every way to the Ace. Official CM support and official ICS. Better processor, better screen, more RAM and the list goes on and on....
Sent from a phone with an app.
Go for ace .
As much as I'd wish every person in this planet to buy the same phone as me (the bigger the community, the better), I have to admit that the Ace can't compete with the Neo V.
go for ace!
dude go for neo v. its not coz ace is a bad performer. when it comes to android go for hardware. neo v is ll bit costly but obviously a better choice plus its getting ics.
Go for the Neo V , it's much better

Wildfire S or Xperia Live with Walkman

Hey Guys - trying to decide which one to choose from - Can get them basically at the same price ...
I have tried playing around with both - main points to look at - speed and camera.
The XLWW is definitively faster - but the images taken at artifical light - seemed more yellowish (should've been white) + there was more noise and less detail. The Wildfire S on the other hand made better low-light photos but was a bit sluggish as compared to the much nicer interface the XLWW had ?
Another point is : HD video on XLWW vs 640/480 on the Wildfire S
Oh and I am really keen on the Wildfire S design (not that the XLWW is that bad but the WIldfire is better).
Which one is the better one at the end - what is your opinion ?
I would go for the XLWW. 50% of my opinion 'cause I'm a Sony Fan.

What about the other 50% What's it based on ?
I've used them both and I also recommend the XLWW, it's just better than the Wildfire.

Thanks - I think the wt19i is better myself - it's just that the camera issue is kinda important to me and the little test I made in the shop didn't convince me to take it ... I know it's a low-end phone - but still 5mp is supposed to make decent images at least.
I have had short experiences with both phones. And I would choose Sony Xperia LWW over HTC Wildfire S any day because.. its..
Newer (October, 2011 vs May, 2011).
Will soon get ICS (and this is a big one for me).
Lot more processing power (1GHz vs 600 Mhz) - this will matter a lot if you plan on keeping the phone for a while.. there is so much in the Play Store and you would want to install a lot of apps.. the more processing power, the merrier.
Music is really loud - although yes it distorts at high volumes but its awesome.. especially when watching youtube videos with friends in high noise areas).
Got a front-facing camera. I am an avid Skype user so it was a must for me.
Regarding Camera.. yes, Wildfire S is definitely better with stills.. but i would say it's a little compromise over LWW's ICS love and greater processing power. And moreover, LWW can shoot 720p videos..!
All said.. i still love to hold Wildfire S over LWW. But verdict - Sony Xperia Live With Walkman.
Hit Thanks button if I helped.
My vote for "Sony Live With Walkman", there are several reasons.
1Ghz processor
512 RAM
Start ICS 4 update this week onwards.

No, i don't think so. Xperia Neo V had some picture quality issues too with GB and it hasn't changed with ICS.
But, you can always post-process images to remove that yellowish tint.

the yellowish tint is easily removed - I would be more concerned in the loss of detail made some test photos at a shop today - compared to the wildfire s - the lww had significantly low detail when image is zoomed ...
otherwise all the rest seems much better - but I am hoping his could somehow be a software issue

Yeah indeed, its a software issue coz it overcompress images but I am not sure if there's a fix for that yet.. maybe some senior member could shed some light on that (anyone listening?), have you tried googling it..?
But even if you decide not to go for LWW, Wildfire S is still a big NO, the processor is really dated. What other phones have you considered..? Is Xperia Neo V (there is a bit price drop with the launch of Sony Xperia Sola) and HTC One V within your price range..?

actually had a look at the Neo V and the picture quality of the camera was pretty much the same - which lead me to the conclusion that the problem might be coz of the software... or a crappy camera matrix.
anyways - the lww works really like a beast with the regular rom that it comes with I was looking at it in the shop and was impressed - let alone with a custom rom - just maybe waiting on a fix for the overcompressed image - wasn't there going to be a less compressed version of the image coming with the ics ? (as a setting ?)

No official word from Sony about the setting, just street rumors, which got proved wrong with Neo V, so hopes are low for LWW too. Yeah, u r right about the stock rom - m a big time timescape user - looks beautiful, works cool.

I truly hope this gets fixed - I see the same problem with Neo, Neo V, LWW, ARC - pretty much most of the late 2011 phones have this issue ... so until a fix is released I will be pretty much holding off.
And you won't have to wait for long.. coz ICS coming to LWW soon starting in a couple days as per the official Sony blog. Start asking around on ICS related threads.

.. and man i just realized its the android 4.0.4..! The ICS update on Neo V I was talking about earlier was 4.0.3. This time, both LWW and Neo V will get 4.0.4. And some guys here at XDA saying we will get a new kernel too.
So hopes are high again for a fix for the camera.

Thx for fantastic support and great community

I just wanna thank everybody here at this forum for their great support.
Also I wanna say goodbye to this section. I won't be so active here any more because I changed my phone to a neo v.

No. I am satisfied with the phone. It's a fantastic phone. Now after using it a longer time I got out that the screen dimension and the resolution is a little to small.
I was able to get the neo v only 3 month old in top conditions for 120 €. So I took the chance and bought it.
No I have no other phone to sell, only the lww.

I will try to describe it but my English isn't that good. I hope you will understand what I try to say.
As you already said the neo v is one class higher. When you hold the phone in your hands you can fell and see it. Fell it because you have got a bigger phone in your hands. See at because the neo v uses materials that look better. No trist black like the lww. The phone I bought is the blue gradient. The phone housing changes his color from black to dark blue depending on the angle you look at it. It's really nice and fantastic.
The chrome parts on the left and right side of the neo v look nice and gives a felling of a higher phone class. The bigger screen size and higher screen resolution also puts you to a higher class.
The phone is already running android 4.0.4.
The neo v has got the same CPU and gpu like the lww. So the ics on the neo v runs as smooth as on the lww. I have notice some small visual changes between both ics on the phone. The widget selection for example on lww and neo v has got a different look.
That's all I can say at the moment. I could only take a look at the phone yesterday evening (sunday). For the next few days I am not at home because of my work. That's the reason I am still using my "old" lww.
I didn't regret buying the neo v.

Would I be out of my mind to trade my Ion for a Neo?

I had an x10 xperia for a few years with MIUI installed since january, just gave it to my dad after upgrading to the Xperia Ion. I really like the Ion, but miss the physical buttons, lanyard, and the MIUI rom from Oodie was working so good on my x10. If x10 had HDMI, front camera, and a little more ram, I would have never let it go. Btw I gave it too my dad because he needed a phone, the Ion was free so I took my upgrade, and he got x10. Ion now has a working stable MIUI, but without HDMI, some theme issues, and call recording only records you. Im considering trading/selling Ion to get a Neo, not the V version I want 8mp cam. Is this a dumb move?

ya bro... it would be a dumb move.... there is no point in downgrading your cell phone..:cyclops::cyclops::cyclops:
A totally dumb move in my opinion
The neo in no way can be compared to the ion
And FYI, the hardware buttons on the neo/v suck!
They turn to copper in no time, and even start to squeak a little, like mine.
I will recommend you to stay with your ion.
Sent from my Xperia neo V
I can understand it, but within a year you will be disappointed with the lag when there's a heavier android version.
Battery life is great for the Neo and it's a very compact handset.
Via Mobile
I wouldn't call it dumb move. I have Neo V and im enjoying it! Its1 year old phone, its getting Jelly Bean, i overclocked it to 1.6 gHz and its working amazing, even hard games, my Neo V runs FIFA 12 and Amazing Spiderman without ANY lag!
I dont agree about buttons, i really enjoy using hardware key on my Neo V, i think that is the same situation as original Neo.
If you dont like them, you can always flash a AOKP ROM and have Navigation Onscreen buttons.
Battery life is average, it can last a day with some average usage (I use Neo V for browsing, viewing facebook, playing some games like FIFA 12, Bad Piggies and all those stuff and battery last from morning charging to point when i want to sleep. It has HDMI, and front camera.
If you dont want THE LATEST AND GREATEST THEN DEFFINETLY GET NEO V OR ORIGINAL NEO. IF YOU WANT NEWEST AND BEST THEN STICK WITH ION, I would be happy with ION if i had one.
dont go for neo my friend...
stick to ion

[Q] Buying Xperia U or Xperia P?

I'm thinking of buying the Xperia U but I have a few questions.
How is the call sound quality, headphone quality and loudspeaker quality like?
How is the screen quality like and how are the graphics like on high end HD games?
Is the browsing very fast on this phone? Does zooming in and out on desktop websites lag a lot?
Has anyone's screen stopped working or has their been any hardware failures that have happened to a lot of xperia u's?
Finally, how long do you think it will be before the phone becomes out of date? I want to use it for maybe 3 years after purchase so I need to know if it is future proof.
Sorry for asking so many questions but I want to be entirely sure the phone is ideal for me. Thanks if you bothered to read this far and double thanks if you answered any of my questions.
In order.

I would recommend you to increase the budget a bit and buy Xperia P instead Xperia U.
Cause 1GB RAM will give you better smoothness than XU's 512 MB RAM.
Also SONY is still keeping XP in their mind while releasing Official updates like JB. [XU have Unofficial JB Port]
No offense to the XU users. It's just what i think that while buying android handset, it's better to go for a better hardware spec. Off course if u plan to increase your budget.
Guy above is right, i still regret buying xperia sola, when i could pay 30 more euros and buy xperia p... It is MUCH better and worth the money... I also think that its developing community is more active than xperia u... No offense of course
Also, u should know that a device like mine it is said that because sony reached the target of sales for this device, now they dont give a damn about it.... We all rely on xda to get jelly bean while xperia P DOES HAVE official jelly bean from sony...
Finally, technology is evolving SO FAST that u need to buy an expensive device so that it can compete with future device... (my opinion)
Does the extra 512MB RAM make a big difference from xperia u to xperia p? The processor and GPU are the same but stuff like screen and camera is better on the xperia p
Trust me, xperia sola with 512 mb of ram barely gives 150mb available, logically xperia p should give u at LEAST 300 mb of free ram...
As far as i know, true gaming devices must have at least 1gb of ram...
Any other comments on the Xperia u? What do you use it for on a daily basis?
If u dont play heavy games then it will do the job BUT IF U:
1) Are sure that 4 gb of storage is not enough (like me). Remember xperia u cannot take sd card...
2) Want to play heavy games, i am pretty sure that xperia p will do better
If u meet either the first or second condition then i urge u to buy xperia p but if u dont then feel free to buy xperia p... My sola is the same as xperia u but i can use an sd card and i must say that since i am not a hard core gamer it does the job pretty damn well
Does the xperia p have a slightly yellow tinted screen? In some videos I have seen the the white looks slightly yellow. Can anyone with an xperia P confirm whether the white is pure white or tinted yellow? Also, after upgrading the firmware to jellybean on Xperia P, do you get various problems with apps such as gallery app not working and does the phone lag or does it get faster? Sorry for all the questions. I just want to be sure before I purchase it

Actually there is no device exists which is completely error free. You just have to make it right by your self. The situation is quite same for Android Update also. Check the General Section, you will find a thread there named as - Xperia P JB Review.
Many users posted there JB experience there. That should be useful for you. And as for the Yellow Tint, Sony took care of that issue, after first few shipments of all of their models.
Hey guys ! I'm Running rooted and S-off HTC Incredible S. Its okay but outdated now. We are fully up to date in software, but the hardware is behind. Looking for a new phone is so difficult right now..
I have a budget of $300-$400 Aus. Samsung SIII is a little old now, N4 has no storage.. I wandering is Sony a good option? Would you recomend any Sony device in that price range?
Thanks

Headphone quality-sounds good , the default headphones aren't good enough u'll surely need to buy a new 1
Loudspeaker-Totally disappointed by the loudspeaker
screen quality-Display is just awesome with 280ppi
Browsing used to lagg when I had too many apps installed..otherwise it works good
No hardware faults as such
Hahahaha there is nothing called as future-proof..U is already outdated, maybe you should go for P instead.
