Backup contacts to vcf file.
Look for an app on Google Play.
To sync the Facebook photos with high quality, the app is Facebook Contact Sync, and for complete back-up, look for the Titanium Back-Up.
.VCF is the best option I have done the same, but do take care that if the same are already there in Gmail, when you sync with Gmail the contact are shown twice..
Just try it.
Go to android market and just download "MobileGo" apps. Its wounderful application. It will allow you to backup every thing i.e. Message, Contact, Applicaion including backup and many more.
I am using the same apps.
If it woks just HIT thanks button.

Hi
Is there a way to backup and restore high res contact's photos in 2.3.3 rom ?
After rom reinstallation and synching with google i get back low res photos of contacts.
Dont sync contacts and reassign the pictures to your contacts should be working all good

Yeah the manual way is working nice, but the the biggest pain is the fact it is manual
I was thinking about keeping all benefits from having sync on and to be able to restore those high res photos automatically.

I have searching for the same question.
Everytime re-flash the rom and sync the contact, I have to re-crop the hi-res contact image really furstrating....
Is there any place storing the hi-res contact picture in the system folder so that we can backup and just replace them after contact sync?
or is it I can backup the contact image by backup them in Titanium Backup?
Hope someone will help
Hi Friends,
I am having a serious problem with contacts syncing, backup-restore...
I like trying new build android OSs & therefore I need a backup-restore application for contacts, but I can not get a perfect solution up to now...
Even gmail syncing is a disaster for me.. I don't know which way is main, phone or gmail contacts? Sometimes it is bullshitting, syncing but not all groups, no sync for photos of contacts...
My experiences:
1- MyBackupPro-v3.8: Sometimes not restoring groups, & very very slow restore
2- SpriteBackup-v2.5.0.188: Sometimes not restoring groups, & very very slow restore
3- ContactsBackupPro-v2.5.4: Restoring groups but adding " character on contacts which are not having anything on Notes section & put themon a new group "
4- Some others are having problem as restoring contact numbers; ie, I am saving my contacts as a +XX YYY ZZZ ZZZZ format, but they are restoring contacts with +XXYYYZZZZZZZ format... & some of them are not restoring saved photos for contacts.
5- PC based backup-restore: Wondershare MobileGo-v1.1.0.111 is backing up, but with destroying the number format as I've just told...
Anyway, is there any contacts backup-restore program that allows you to (correctly) do restore groups + number format + without adding anything?
Finally, I met with android with MIUI, & I miss the Backup program of MIUI's own backup application, it was very perfect.
No advice at all!!
You might want to try manually doing my making a .csv file and importing and exporting to the phone.
In my opinion, people that say that GMail conmtact sync is not working they haven't set it up right...

Thank you but I tried that also, photos are not backed up that way.
Have you tried the actual contacts app import/export? I'm not sure what info is saved by this method but I was assume it'd be a full backup.
Also, this is somewhat related so I just want to mention...
on Wednesday the Google server went wacky and I lost about 3/4 of my contacts from the cloud. I went crazy trying to find a fix but nothing... then I got onto Gmail from the desktop. There is a contacts restore feature, to any time from the past 30 days. I just went to restore to Tuesday, and everything was back. Saved me!
Like amnigo said try the built in import/export function. You can find it from the contacts app menu.
Also the problem you stated about '+XX YYY ZZZ ZZZZ format, but they are restoring contacts with +XXYYYZZZZZZZ format' you should be able to use this Contacts Clean-up (I can't liunk it since I'm a new user so search for it in the android market) I had the same type of problem too and managed to fix it with this.
Try this
Am using this and works well

I know this & tried as well, but as you said, it changes the format & contacts clean-up sometimes does not work (may be some interfere with the rom build, I don't know!)

Yes, I have tested this also but this does not restore groups...
afternoon all.
been using GB for a while now, i decided to move onto a new rom so after trying a few different roms ive settled on a 4.0.4 aokp rom.
one thing i noticed on all the roms i tried was i couldnt get the contacts picture to show when making/recieving calls which was no problem on GB.
i have a contacts folder on my external-sd card which has pictures of my contacts in there which i assign to each person in contacts. but they dont show.
am i doing something wrong or is this feature not available in ics roms?
any info appreciated
tia
I think your google contacts sync the pictures as well when you add a google account. But prior to this your google account should contain the contacts with images.
The photos are embedded in contact files so that you do not have to keep a seperate folder with the photos of them..
After flashing how did you put the contacts back? Your backing-up file of contacts allows for contacts with photos? I mean sometimes I back-up my own contacts and it saves only name and number... What method do you use?
i have no probs with the pictures in the contacts list etc.
the only problem i have is that when i recieve or make a call it doesnt show the contacts pic on screen.
do u know what i mean?
I have the same problem.
Im using active sync and FB.
When syncing FB contacts the pic i now gone. In BG the FB profile pic is downloadef if the active sync didnt have enny.
Now on ICS all my contacts is missing pic.
Why so?

i was using bezkes aokp
so i decided to try hydrogens aokp and all is ok with this rom
contact pics now show when making/recieving calls.
I searching for any app that can manage better the contacts, save pictures with high res, back-up (even the facebook synced contacts)... Anyone find one? thanks!
When you sign in to google account your contacts got synced.
So unless google looses your contacts, your contacts are backed up auto.
Same with Facebook, until Facebook looses them you have them also.
I don't know why people worry backing up contacts like crazy.
go backup =[free] (need root) fast and easy backup for system setting, contacts (all system settings) msgs and all apps with their data.
es manager =[free] (no root ) for app backup .
titanium backup =[free + paid] {need root} all system backup .
Titanium back-up ... Also needs root.

Everytime I flash a new ROM I have to start from square 0 with contact pictures. Does anyone knows a method to use the saved contacts (with nice pictures) from previous ROM in the new ROM and keep the contact's nice pictures size previously saved? I tried:
- MyBackup pro
- Titanium Backup
- Save the contacts folder from data/data and paste it to the new ROM
None of the above was working: everytime I had small contact pictures in the Contacts.
Thank you.
My contacts are backed up to google. Therefore when I flash a new rom and log into google all my contacts and pictures are there.
Yes I agree with you. But when you restore contacts from Google into your phone, the contacts pictures are resized to 96x96 even in your phone the picture was full size. This is my problem. How to restore the contacts in the new ROM and keep the contacts pictures at the full size.
Best regards.
