[Q] ICS update still hasn't arrived in my country? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

On the Update website it says Latest software : 6.1.A.0.452
I have the .75 gingerbread ver. installed.
when i click check for updates it says that i'm up to date, does this mean that the update still hasn't arrived in my country or what (i'm from Slovenia)

Yes, most likely that's the case.
However, it is very easy to install ICS through the flashtool. There is a nice guide for this somewhere in the Xperia S forums. This process doesn't even require you to unlock the bootloader or anything.
I just followed this guide and it worked like a charm.
If you're scared of installing it this way, it is probably better to wait a while. I reckon the update should arrive shortly for you too, as they started rolling out the update about 2 weeks ago now i think.

When Froyo Arives... Will I be ok for the OTA update

Right now I am running stock vibrant software with the kingklick oc kernel, oncl, and stock 2.1 unlock screen.
My question is when froyo comes out (hopefully soon) will I be ok to install the ota update. Our do I need to uninstall the lag fix and other mods.
Thanks in advance.

You would have to change your kernel, and it's best if you do a wipe when installing any new rom, especially a new firmware.
Does a froyo update not replace the kernel?
I had a similar question. Stock, unrooted Vibrant.... I got the JI5 update last week over Kies. Then I read that T-Mo had said not to install it. Are the odds good that I will have to jump through hoops to get the OTA when it finally comes?

The odds are you will need to Odin back to JFD to get the update via OTA.
However the odds are also that you will find it packaged here ready to Odin before you get it via OTA. OTA's are pushed out in batches, not to every single phone at once, so it can takes days or weeks for an OTA to complete for every device.
If you're already here (and it appears you are), you will know what to do when everyone else here does.

I'm in the same spot as you. I've got a vanilla Vibe and jumped on that Kies update =)
It's a great update and fixed the GPS issue but regarding the OTA, I'm sure we'll find out what's going on once the T-Mobile updates start rolling. Fear not, you're in the right spot.

Thanks for the info.
I've been around a while just lurking & learning. I've been dieing to root this phone (first android) but didn't want to do it and turn around after and return to stock for 2.2. It does look like we will have a rom before it comes OTA anyway.
I'm sure someone will take the Froyo OTA and make a Clockwork Flashable Rom if you dont want to ODIN. So hang tight and check back because believe me that as soon as the OTA goes out, it will be on a download mirror for all us in less than 24 hours.
Its a game.
They come out with something
The Devs make it flashable

A question about the recent OTA and root.

Hi,
Just got my phone a couple days ago and immediately rooted it using some of the great tutorials I found on this site.
My question is, I have been getting a notice to update to the latest OTA. Will this affect my root?
I believe it might disable root but you can always root after the OTA update.
was there a 2nd OTA update sent out, other than the one on Aug. 24th? if so i wasn't aware of this.

[Q][Mini Pro][Firmware]Last Firmware before ICS available anywhere?

Hello,
I am looking for the last pre ICS firmware for my SK17i. I am currently back on 4.0.2.A.0.42 since ICS was not the best performance wise and the notification LED didn't work (please let's not discuss ICS vs. GB here)
So now I wanted to flash the latest pre-ICS firmware which as far as I know is 4.0.2.A.0.69 (only for germany, but that's where I live). Or 4.0.2.A.0.62 which maybe is easier to find. Now I do know about the !PreRooted 4.0.2.A.0.69 in this thread. However I had quite a few problems with aswell as others described in this thread. Most importantly the flashlight wasn't working at all, the keyboard layout was way off (not just qwerty instead of my german qwertz). I'd really appreciate any help in this matter.
Also: I am a complete newb concerning android but I tried my beast to research this before posting
Thanks,
SM
Keyboard layout depends on the firmware region.
Flashlight problem seems to be related to the baseband, I have heard. Even though I kind of doubt it, but still worth of trying.
If you root your .42, you should be able to update via OTA (it means via WiFi and the app Update Centre) to the last 2.3.4 build without loosing root
Thanks Feanor88! I had only opened the update centre once and it told me everthing was up to date (forgot to refresh/recheck via menu).
Now it show's the international 4.0.2.A.0.62 Upgrade. But if I try to install it it reboots a couple of times and then starts up with the old FW and tells me the install was not possible and I should try again. Which I did with the same outcome. Any Idea what could be the hinderance? I'm rooted with CWM installed, bootloader is locked (never touched it).

CWM is the trouble creator. You will need to come back to stock and then try.

Thank you, that did it. Now I'm on the .62 GB firmware which I'm much happier with than ICS. At least now my Sound in Navigon and Skype work correctly, aswell as the notification LED and games like Osmos don't randomly quit

[Q] Factory Unlocked S2 and official jelly bean update

Hello to everyone. Sorry if the post does not go here.
I have a factory unlocked Galaxy S2 and wanted to know if there is a way to update it with the official jelly bean update, since the roll out started for some countries i thought maybe i could do the update too. My country didn't recieve the update yet, and when i search for updates, it obviously says theres none. But wanted to know if theres a method, that does not involve rooting or something like that.
Thanks in advanced
Just flash some other countries rom
I.e Spain
Yeah i heard that, but i wanted to know if there was a way to updating it without flashing some rom. Because i cant understand why i can update since my phone is unlocked. I even tried to search for updates without a sim but with no luck.

No.
If you want JB now then you will need to flash Spains or some other countries stock rom via ODIN or flash a custom rom via cwm recovery.

It's about the firmware, not about network status (locked - unlock).
Judging by your nick you are from Argentina-Uruguay. You'll get the update in march.

Just flash it via Odin / mobile odin so you can show off running JB while your friends run gingerbread or ICS (or iOS, they always look away going like "argh...I got nothing to show against that spaceship", luv it )

Massive battery drain and JB update.

Hi,
I'm very sorry if the problem was in other topic, but I looked first 10-12 pages of topics and couldn't find anything. My wive's Motorola RAZR MAXX (european, retail,non-carrier) is still on ICS, newest software availible, but from time to time get massive battery drain from process called Multimedia. Fully charged phone can run out of battery in few hours, get hot like from the furnace and finally turn off out of "juice". We are aware of the problem, that this single process is draining the battery, since we've looked at battery manager and this process is beeing constantly restarting, causing 100% CPU usage and draining battery. Forced-close helps, but this process manage to restart in background and it's stupid to constantly closing it in task manager every time after finishing some tasks that trigger him to start again. So, are there any temporary solutions for this? Is Motorola aware of the problem and will fix this in upcoming JB update? And finally, when EU versions of RAZR/MAXX get official JB update?
Regards, Jacek

i know, that happened to me also, but not all people get the update from the settings, so you need to flash it manually from stock recovery

I'm really aprreciate the help, but this firmware seems to be a leak, not the official one, so I won't risk bricking phone (wife's), especially, we've got iMac, so no windows program work on it (I presume it's needed for forced flashing via recovery) and I've never done any rooting/flashing myself. I'll have to wait for official update via OTA.
But you've mentioned, that you're familiar with the problem - was it fixed with the JB update in your case?

This may not come.
Only few ROM are updated via OTA: Retail.en.FR, Retail.en.EU, Retail.en.AU, Vodafone.en.EU.
And I think your ROM version is not one of them :/
You need to change ICS to one of upper ROM, and then you can take JB update.

Now wife has rom 672.180.41.XT910.NonEFIGSRetail.en.EU - why do You think this Rom won't be updated any time soon? I bought this phone from normal store, it has motorola warranty (non-carrier, it's not imported from foreign country), I live in Poland. If you're right how can I make the update SAFELY on on iMac? Is it possible? The problem is getting stronger everyday - process activating himself randomly and sometimes it's too late to switch it off before it do some damage to battery. It's bloody anoying!
I'm sure that ROM 672.180.41.XT910.NonEFIGSRetail.en.EU won't be updated to JB - This device will remain on Android 4.0.4 (ICS)
You can confirm that at Motorola website (Select Poland and Retail, then Motorola Razr phone):

You need to change ICS to one of updated ROM(Retail.en.FR, Retail.en.EU, Retail.en.AU, Vodafone.en.EU), and then you can take JB update.

As I know you must root your ICS, install Safestrap, install new ICS(one of Retail.en.FR, Retail.en.EU, Retail.en.AU, Vodafone.en.EU), root new ICS, install voodoo ota root keeper and buckup root, install JB update, I think this would look something like this.

Why rooting? Does just installing retail version of ICS and then doing OTA update to JB won't work?

I don't think you can just install other version of ICS without rooting.
Well, it’s looks like I’m ****ed up #$% I can’t update without rooting, I can’t root and update because there is no Mac tools for doing this, Motorola won’t plan to update RAZR/MAXX in my third world country to JB (get confirmation from support), and even if I’ll ask someone to make an update for me (if I found someone from near my location who know how to do this without bricking the phone) I still loose warranty because rooting void warranty. If I know all of this earlier I wold have never buy moto phone. Support guy told me that the only thing I can do is to make a factory reset, and if it won’t solve the problem give the phone to warranty. Either way I don’t have many options here – will try to reset phone first, it doesn’t take much time and doesn’t hurt.
But have one more question (maybe lame, but I’ve never done rooting) – since the rooting void warranty, is it possible to make an update to retail.UK JB and then COMPLETELY remove root with any trails it was on phone? So I won’t lost warranty and have newest software? If yes, then it will make sense to look for someone to help me with the whole update process.

Take alook in the dev section and search rsdlite with this tool you can flash 672.180.41.en.eu (fastboot file has a different name)
There are many threads on how to
Then you upgrade to JB
Root is not needed for any of this
dude there will be some big media file on ur SD card which would be not able to read like in my case there was 1.4gb mkv video file which was not readable by mediaproces so it was constantly trying to update the gallery so becuase of such files which are unreadble causes media process to constantly run.....so check ur SD card whether u have any such file...if no then search for dev section for root and flash JB rom....
