Enjoying my GS3 for the past 2 days. One main concern is I can't send texts to my groups of contacts which can get up to 75 per group. This was easy to perform with the HTC Sensation SMS app. Has anyone found a mod/work-around to edit this restriction to number closer to 100? I understand I can use 3rd party Handsent & GoSms, but I'm not able to use them for the fact you have to select if it's the home or mobile number you are texting. I can't do that for 75 contacts each time because there is no memory feature for that.
I believe there was a regedit where the string was changed from 10 to 99 for group texting in previous phones. Thanks in advance if you can provide a solution to this issue using the stock Sammy messaging app.
Here was the fix for the HD2:
**Increasing the number of allowed recipients in group sms through default HTC SMS
Go to registry,
HKLM\Software\Jataayu\Messaging\MaxRecipients
Change from 10 to 99 **
Does anyone know if there is a registry edit similar to this that could be set for the S3?
bump for answer?

I feel your pain. I switched from an HTC EVo 3D where the standard is 40 contacts per SMS group and seems to be the standard for all shift and LTE versions as well. For the life of me I cannot figure this out. 2 main files I found are:
/system/csc/feature.xml file
edit line (thanks freeza):
<CscFeature_Message_RecipientLimit>10</CscFeature_Message_RecipientLimit>
the other is inside the SecMms.apk file itself (must decomplile):
res>xml>mms_config.xml
edit line:
"<int name="recipientLimit">10</int>"
messed areound with both and still get the "10 contact avaialble only" error.
So if HTC can? do it why can't Samsung?

Android does not have a registry so this will only work on windows based phones. Android needs an option in the menu for this as well as same thread for group sms.

Just found this but do not know what to do with it:
SecMms.apk (Decompiled)
\res\values\strings.xml
And
res\values-en-rUS\strings.xml
<string name="recipient_max_limit">Maximum number of recipients is %d</string>
<string name="max_available">%d contact(s) available only</string>
(this is the message “10 contact available only)
<string name="max_recipient_limit_exceed">Maximum number of recipients (%d) reached</string>
<string name="mms_max_recipient_limit_exceed">MMS maximum number of recipients (%d) reached. Some recipients will be lost.</string>
<string name="confirm_mms_max_recipient_limit_exceed">"MMS maximum number of recipients (%d) reached. Some recipients will be lost. Continue?"</string>
the %d in the string is a placeholder but, where would the "10" be at?

HI
Not long had my X10i, and so far very impressed. However, Im trying to find out how to send a text message to my favourites. I run a football prediction league, and have 13 members. On my old samsung phone, i was able to type one sms and send to my 'group' of 13 contacts.
I have sorted my favourites out, but cant send an sms to them all at once?
How do i do it?
Thanks.
not sure that you can send it to a full distribution list
the only way is to select one then click left button to add more contacts you have to do that each time

Download the app Handcent, and use it as your messenger service.

i think after sending first sms with all 13 contacts (manuell added recipients), you will automaticly create an entry in your sms list, with a group u looking for.
1. new message
1.1. add recipient
1.2. menu key --> add recipient
1.3. menu key --> add recipient
..
1.13 menu key --> add recipient
2. type text
3. send sms
after this you schould create a groupe entry in your sms list. now you can use this to send further sms to your football group.

Thank you all for that. How do i group my contacts in handcent?
anyone know how to increase sms group limit of 10
Just been searching for a fix for this, any luck?
Maybe I need to change my search terms?
Yes, a fix is in vrtweaks for villainrom 1.4. Also lets you send over 4 sms without it converting to mms
Thx for tweaking pulsar!
What i also find very anoying is when sending group sms and one recepient has only a email saved, the whole sms is send to all recepients as an mms! Produced me some unwanted extra costs..
Just wanted to let you know
you can also use "handcent sms" oder "gosms" from the market.
they're much prettier than the stock sms app and you can send group sms to all the phonebook eg or tick off the conversion to mms and stuff like that
I changed max sent from 10 to 100, and sms convert to mms after 40

Hi, I have been using go SMS pro and I made some backups and made it auto backup by schedule..
I've noticed now that something probably went wrong and now I've got most of my SMS twice or trice, or even 4 times duplicate..
And if ill try to fix it handily by my self it'll take me 40 years, cuz I got over a thousand messages.. and each one is 2-4 times..
Is there any app that you know that could scan it and delete it by its own?
Like scanning the whole SMS and delete those who are the same..?
Please help. Its very important for me.
Thanks,
Yarden.
I'll second this one! Most other SMS apps have a way of sorting duplicates? They see sent or received dates. Would be cool if GOSMS could do this too. I noticed that a 3rd party sms app cannot back up GOSMS's SMS (geeze that's a mouthful to say lol)... the only way you can allow them to function is if you uncheck the box for disable other SMS apps inside GOSMS; but doing that in it's self causes other issues.
Hey
You said "most other app got way of.sorting duplicates.."
Can you name one please?
Although this is very old post and I already fixed the problem of duplicating the messages each backup, I still got a lot of old messages twice / trice...
Can you name a app that can scan and fix it?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
You could use "SMS Backup & Restore".
Make a Backup, Check if it was ok, Delete all SMS, Restore from Backup -> There you can choose if the Restore should check if the Message exists...
How do I choose such a thing?
Can you be more accurate please? I can not see such an option.
Do you talk about go sms?
Thanks.

you can try my app BackupSMS. It has this feature (delete duplicate messages).

Oh that's exactly what I was looking for!!!
It fixed my problem so easily!
God will bless you for inventing this simply genius app!
Thank you!

Kamma I downloaded your app to try and remove some duplicate messages I have but I get a force close.
I have an HTC ONE X running ICS
Life saver! I used SMSBackupRestore to restore backups after my phone got factory reset, and it kept hanging about half way through. I ended up with three or four copies of all my messages. Your "delete duplicates" option saved the day! Thanks heaps

Your App does have the delete duplicates feature, which is the only thing I needed (due to a mistake using SMS Backup & Restore).
It was HELLA slow, > 2 hrs for 7500 SMS, but it did work.
Thanks'd

The delete duplicates function didn't work for me. Running CM11 on a i9305 S3. It just says "Error while deleting duplicate messages."

Yes, but it's a bit of work. If I recall correctly, this is what I did.
- use titanium backup to export your sms messages to xml
- rename to .txt
- open in excel, don't import the xml, just the plain text line by line
- take a look at your file: are duplicates exactly the same? How to uniquely identify them?
- on column two, use a formula to extract part of the text that identifies a text message, use excel help or ask me by posting an example
- next column use a formula if(the identifier on column two = identifier of previous line, "", first column)
- copy column three, paste in column four data only
- sort column four to get rid of empty lines
- in titanium, delete all your text messages
- import the cleaned xml file.
- done
I'm a bit of an expert in this, so it took me maybe half an hour. Note that there may be text editing tools that remove duplicate lines, but that only works if the whole xml code of duplicate text messages is identical. Also not that importing xml files in excel is nice, but exporting them is difficult.

Maybe you can separate the sms and mms and then use my excel procedure to delete duplicate sms messages and delete the mms duplicates by hand?
To behonest, I'm surprised anyone uses mms...
Hi everyone!
I am using ICS stock (LP7) and it's built in mms.apk for sms and mms.
Now for some reason MMS are limited in size. At around 3kB (about 2000chars) I get a message that I have reached the limit and I then cannot write anymore chars.
I couldn't find any setting in the program itself that lets my bypass this.
I decompiled the mms.apk but couldn't find the solution as the mmssize in the xml does no fix this.
Anybody have any ideas?

I think that's a carrier size limit, not a phone size limit, but I'm not positive...
u cant increase the size its carriers may b diffrent but they ave to follow public privacy laws, gov laws, cyber laws etc
Yep. Carrier dependent. No workaround.
thanks guys for your fast replies
but that limitation also affects sms :-(
and it works with handcent sms. it's just the stock app that doesn't allow it.
just sent myself an sms using handcent that exceeds the limit of the stock app and i got it just fine.
alternatively, does someone know whether you can disable the link of sms size to mms size in one of the xmls or somewhere?
well iam not a mms or sms freek but wat i think is even if u double the sms size and send it ,the opponet will recieve it in a normal way ,like 2,3 sms ..,tht may b single sms for u...even now everyone dosnt own a android, ppl r on bbm,etc ive seen some bbm msg which r recieved in un readable format....so logically it may b supported on bbm but not on android....hope u got it...eg like viber ,the oponet shld a;lso hav viber in order to cummunicatee
i seldom write really long sms, but almost all my friends have either android or iphone. so they can all receive long sms-es
i sent a long one to an old phone of mine and that came in portions. but it didn't matter if it was 14 sms (equals the mms limit) or in 25 sms.
so the limit, while understandable, is a bit superfluous. and i am not a big fan of handcent :-(
What about the MMS mod in themes or development .
jje
which one? the one that disbles the sms->mms conversion? there is no answer in there and the thread has long been dead. tried it there before. no one listening or no one answering...
Hi,
There's something I'd like to do on my samsung galaxy note that I was able to do on my Symbian-based device in the past, but I can't figure out how to do it under Android.
I'd like to save multiple SMS drafts per recipient. However, my Galaxy note 2 only seems to permit me to save one SMS draft per recipient, with each subsequent draft overwriting the previous draft for that same recipient.
Here's why I'd like to have this capability:
If I want to type a long SMS to someone (more than 160 characters), what I like to do is split the message at logical places such as after commas, sentence endings, etc. I would do this by getting close to the end of a given SMS message and then stopping it at the point that I choose, saving it as a draft, and then continuing my text in a new SMS starting at the beginning of the next sentence, phrase, etc. Then, once the set of drafts is completed, I will first proofread and make corrections in the entire group of drafts, and only then will I manually send them off, one after the other.
Yes, I know I can type a long message and the SMS app will automatically split it into pieces after 160 characters, but that often splits words or breaks sentences and phrases in places that I don't want them broken.
Here's how I try to accomplish this on my G1:
Invoke the Messaging app.
Select New Message.
Select recipient.
Compose first SMS.
Select the Back key (draft 1 gets saved).
Select New Message.
Select same recipient as before.
Compose second SMS.
Select the Back key (draft 2 gets saved).
However, at this point, draft 1 has been overwritten by draft 2. In other words, only draft 2 remains.
Can anyone think of a way for me to accomplish what I want (or at least something similar) on my samsung galaxy note 2?
Thanks in advance.
no one ??
This isn't possible in the stock messaging app. You can use GO SMS Pro or Handcent SMS, which allow you to create folders and save messages in them just like in Symbian. So you can save parts of the long message in a folder and send them one by one. I like to use the stock messaging app in my devices though, so the way I do this is to type out the message till the limit, copy it and paste it in a note taking app, then copy it back to the messaging app when I need to send it. In ICS and JellyBean, when you select a bunch of text to copy, you get a share button to directly share it by SMS and other stuff. So it's very easy and doesn't involve copy-pasting twice. I just select, share, done. I find this to take the same number of steps and be just as easy as saving to a folder and sending. If you must do it that way, then one of the above apps should be right for you.
I regularly send long messages, sometimes even 10-15 messages long if I'm copy-pasting some stuff from the internet to someone, but I've never experienced your problem or messages breaking up and missing content. They just reach the recipient as one big message. Although, this behaviour is dependent on the mobile network provider, so I can't speak for yours. But I have never seen this happen with any GSM provider I'm my country. I'm guessing yours must be CDMA?
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
Could you please tell me which note taking app you use with ics thank you in advance. Tom
This is merely a work-around for how to work on multiple drafts to a recipient. First add your name and mobile device phone # to your Contacts List. Refine your first draft as thoroughly as possible. Then address that message to your own mobile device phone #, and send it. You'll see that message twice, as both your "Sent" & your "Received" message. Your first draft is "parked" in your mobile device's phone #. Now you can work on your next draft, as you would normally. If you decide to send your first draft to the recipient, just forward it from your mobile device's inbox!
