[Q] Not picking up display name from hotmail server - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've used hotmail as my email for years and on many mobile phones
including iPhone 3G, 4, 4s, HTC One X and the Galaxy Nexus.
It seems as if the phone is supposed to pick up the display name from
the hotmail server but it does NOT. Anyone run into this issue and
know how to correct it?
Thanks!

[Q] Track N Remote Control your G-Note online - Free Service by Samsung

Recently found this free service from Samsung. Allows you to remotely find your
G-Note, lock it, erase it etc.
Been trying to make this work for a few days. It is working on the International Note.

Can register the phone with Samsung. Can link to the account on the phone. The web menus don't seem to be enabled. The international setting screens have some choices we don't.
Samsung US support had no clue. Anyone know anything about this?

I tried this last week and do not believe it works for AT&T phones.

Have you tried cerberusapp? I have it on everything.

Same story with AT&T version of GS2, AT&T removed the necessary software on the phone so it is not possible to let AT&T version to communicate with Samsung's service.

As of 2 days ago, they were taking account info to hand out free accounts in celebration of their 1,000,000,000th account or something. There was a link on /r/android.

Lost Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0

So guys, I lost my Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 inside my house somewhere and I cannot find it. I know the GPS is on and the device is on with little battery. Is there any way I can find it? My Google account is on it so is there anyway I can find it with GPS? BTW, I do not have any texting apps on it. Any help? Thanks

You should call on police, and tell them, you have got a drags, they will give you hard revision!! And you will get your desired sgp!!
Have you turned on wifi before you lost?

Use your router to locate him, there should be singals of all devices connected to the router, so, you can easily locate SGP5

You can't use GPS to find it considering the accuracy probably spans the entirety of your home. You may be able to locate it with wireless information from your router. I'd hurry though in the case that your battery drains quickly with WiFi always on.
Worst case, you'll come across it while cleaning or just retrace your steps to when you last had it.
Well guys, I found it using using the Plan B app from Lookout Security. It connected to my Google account and found where the location was in my house. Any suggestions on how I can be prepared next time? Like a backup GPS?

you can get a communicator like skype, parlingo etc. and if you lost again, you will be able to locate SGP with one call/massage to SGP.
you cant use GPS, coz accuracy of GPS is nearly of 15m-10m,
you can use also a spectrum analyser or a wifi device with monitor mode on, but the first cost ~600$, the second is hard to do, those two need to have wifi turned on SGP.
A couple of options:
You could install skype, or some other app that lets you receive calls, messages, or whatever over wi-fi. Configure the app with an audible alert when a call is received, and then just call your player when you lose it.
Configure the email client to play an alert sound when a new email is received, and email yourself when you need to find your phone
Download google voice and get a free phone number you can text from your computer or phone. Couple it with groove ip app and you have a free wi fi phone service. I use it all the time.
OK, Thanks Guys!

I know it's bad form to resurrect old threads, but I noticed an app on Google Play apparently made for this exact situation. it's called "Wheres My Droid" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alienmanfc6.wheresmyandroid)
install app androidlost....it is not using any memory because its using google account and app after first time doesnt need to be even started as any process normal or background...and then go to www.androidlost.com ..log with your google id and you can do what ever comes to your mind with device remotely.I find my phone and tablet with that 10 times by now or scare my friend who use it because you can even play police siren remotey on device. And this free app is also awsome for spying your girlfriend if she has android phone..mine have no idea that i read all here messages and now who calls here and who she calls..but for now she is good girl

[Q] Alternative to iMessage

The wife and I have iPhone's and use iMessage, but this week I'm going to try out a Verizon galaxy note 2 for my work phone. What are my options for replacing iMessage. The wife does not have texting on her iPhone plan.
Thanks in advance.
Maybe you'll want to try Kik?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
There's no iMessage compatability for Android. I'd suggest possibly having her use Google Voice (if the app is avaliable for iOS still) for her to text you and vice versa (if you have texting).
whatsapp
LiveProfile - can send photos and videos too and has the read receipts and "typing" indicator
Or Whatsapp - seems to be pretty popular
I use Google voice, but your wife would have to have a number to do so - maybe gchat?

Both of you can download Voxer. It's free and works for texts and pics.
Try kakao talk

Thanks for the info. We will give whatsapp a try tomorrow.
If you have facebook their messaging app is pretty good, and free.
Gtalk?

iMessage is proprietary crap. Install Google Voice on both devices (Android and iOS) and use standard SMS for free within North America. On top of that, install Groove IP and make/take phone calls for free within North America over 4G LTE.

Little biased.
Use Kakao talk.
Google Talk, and Email for pics and video.

Google Talk is literally the Android version of iMessage except you can use it from a browser too.

Except it's best to say iMessage is literally the Apple version of gtalk that can only be used on Apple devices.
But I guess if I'm getting real nitpicky...props to AOL, the first?

True, if you're getting picky
Regardless, its installed on every Android phone and is accessible through GMail and Google+.
actually you can do group messages with the included standard messaging application. Just make sure you disable your imessage on your iphones before using your android phones. If you dont and someone responds back to a text using imessage and it will sit on apples servers waiting for your iphone to come back online. Happened to me. Didnt receive texts from iphone users until i disabled the imessage feature on the iphones.

Has Google killed Exchange on Android phones as well?

Trying to set up gmail using Exchange and it keeps saying server unavailable. I was thinking Google killed exchange for all its competition...I didn't realize they killed it for Android based phones as well, or am I missing something?

They REALLY want you to use the Gmail app, which sucks because I know that I love a unified inbox.
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda premium
Yea I love the stock email...especially in black. What do I need to purchase from Google in order to be able to use Google with exchange??
Sent from my LG-E970 using Tapatalk 2
I use exchange with no issues. Check your settings and then check you corp policy. My company only allows so many connections via mobile devices. I used up all mine while flashing my HTC Vivid and the LGOG. The best way to set up exchange is to do manual setup from settings/accounts.

He doesn't mean corporate Exchange, he means that you can no longer add your Google account via their exchange connector, m.google.com. They did away with this recently to make you use IMAP andCalDAV/CardDAV.

Craigslist Selling Technique

I have a bunch of stuff I'm trying to sell on Craigslist, and I don't want to use my real phone number. What options do I have? A while back I used Google voice but it ended up messing up my real number.
It would be best to keep my number for personal things, friends family etc.. But then have a completely separate number for Craigslist deals.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
Well... You could just leave an email address. Doesn't have to be your real one. Or just download a text app, they give you a number, just know that they sometimes don't let you call without buying minutes, but let you text all you want

Yes, I always use an app called Heywire. Its a free wifi texting app. You wont get a local number but its free. I use it whenever I sell on craigslist.
Google voice and groove ip so you can have both numbers at the same time
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
There's a few apps that designate non used numbers to use for texting. I'd check that out

You can use Google voice on your computer right from your Gmail account (if chat is enabled) and you have speakers/mic enabled. No cross setup with phone needed.
