Hey guys,
I'm new here, so please excuse me if this is the wrong forum, but I guess I'm kinda in the right place (I cannot post to the dev forum cause I'm new, so I have to ask here).
I'm following the thread(s) on webtop2sd for quite some time now, but never had the urge to register. Now I wanted to try installing webtop2sd and enjoy the freedom of having a 'real' linux OS. However, when the webtop2sd app is not recognizing my ext3 partion, thus I cannot select a target partition ("no valid extfs partitions found"). I partitioned the card using minitool partition on windows (and trust me, nothing I did wrong there). I'm using the original ROM (Android 2.3.4), superuser installed, got no CWM, so pretty much the factory default Atrix (here in Europe). My SD card is a Samsung 32gig class 10.
Anyone an idea what I am doing wrong or how I can install it properly?
edit: hm, I just realized that I didn't name my partition anything - does it need to be called 'osh'? (cannot test it right now)
okay guys, I used webtop2sd to partition my sd card and it worked fine... I guess there just was some incompatibility with win xp, my sd card and minitool partition
how can I close this thread/mark as solved?
WOW
hey dude, we have the same sd card and the same problem...
what rom are you running? im on the latest nottachtrix, and when I use 2.0.1 webtop2sd my phone force closes, and when I use 1.1.2 of webtop2sd, my sd card is not recognized at all... Any help would be super appreciated... :crying:
I've got the same problem as you Steamedcurry... Need help pleease...
delete all of your partitions form SDcard, make one FAT32 partition. Now you can make another partition in Webtop2SD

Hi,
Ok I am new to android but I have rooted my Hero and put the Modaco ROM on and update the radio so I am getting there. Now I have read that you can install apps to your SDCard and also transfer the ones already installed across to the SDCard.
I am just a little confused as to how to do it. From what I have read this is what I think I should do but just want someone to confirm im right.
First partition the SDCard with a EXT3 partition of no greater than 1.5GB.
Then if I am reading this right that is all there is to it the ROM will recognise the EXT3 partition and do the rest??
So no one can tell me if im right? I am also wondering if when I am partitioning the sd card if I have to delete everything on it as I have all my music on it and my Copilot maps and it would be a PITA to do.
And for the partition is it Paragon Partition Manager I should used?
Thanks.
How to Move apps from Phone memory to SD in Android 2.1
in Xperia X10
My phone is rooted.
any help????
Your options would be scripts like DarkTremor or (the slightly more user-friendly) Link2SD.
But be warned: both are not 100% stable... I've finally removed DarkTremor after a lot of issues: How about upgrading to a custom ROM instead?
Hi.
I dont want to start new topic so I use this one to describe my problem.
I read a lot of webs to find solution but here's comes some problems with that.
I've got Samsung Gio S5560 and 4GB SD card. After creating 2 primary partitions FAT32 and ext2 link2sd says that "no space left on device" and i cannot do anything. Even when I use 2GB card or create partition f.e. ext3 it doesn't works.
Can anyone help with that ?
Sorry for my english. I hope is understandable
Of course phone had been rooted.
Android 2.2.1
Regards.
I'm not sure how these scripts determine which partition to use... have you tried partitioning through ClockworkRecovery? Maybe they need the partitions in a certain order or (more likely) some other requirement. CR would very likely take any such requirements into account.
P.S. Your English sounds fine to me, but this doesn't come from a native speaker either, so...
I used to create partitions MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition. On YT there ale some tutorials so I used them. At the beginning I create FAT32 and then ext2. Maybe at the morning I try some new configs with my SD card.
Hi there,
I have the following issue and hope to find somebody with a solution here in the XDA-world...would be great.
Of course I did some searching before I post here, but the results are not sufficient for me...
I am using a 64 GB external SD card in my Samsung Galaxy S III since a few days. Before I put data to the card, I performed a format via the phone itself. The access works great - I can use all my files when I use the phone in normal operation. (with Ultima Rom).
Today I downloaded the latest ROM release and wanted to flash it via CWM 6.0.2.7 and I encountered a problem - I cannot access the external SD card in CWM recovery. It simply say´s "Can´t mount external SD".
Why is it? Any solution proposals? I used to have a 2GB card and the installations worked fine with CWM here....
Is it a wrong formatting probably? Or the size?
Thanks for any suggestions!!!
You should do some search before post, but since you are here, I give you some briefly information, but you have to search more details yourself.
1. 64 GB sdcard is formated in exFAT file system which CWM recovery doesn't support it, that's why you have problem with 64 , but OK with 2GB sdcard. (Some latest recovery has now support exFAT I think )
2. Solution, format your sdcard into FAT32 file system, or change to 32 GB sdcard because unless you have countless files or blue ray movies otherwise you won't need 64GB at all, that's what I did, I had 64 and change to 32 to avoid any kinda potential problem

1. Use PhilZ Touch recovery (based on 6.0.2.8 - I think 6.0.2.7 was also very buggy - and with a new Samsung kernel supporting exFAT).
2. Format as FAT32.
I am currently using the 1st approach, but keep in mind that many ROMs (mostly based on CM10 stuff) still have a huge bug where the exFAT partition is not recognized but instead some stuff is written to the first sector - when that takes place just put the exFAT card in a SD-reader in Win7/8, reject any suggestion to format it and then from the command line run CHKDSK /F Letter:
Thank you!!!
Thanks a lot to both of you!!! It worked out! :highfive:
I also managed to search for "how to format an SDCard to FAT32", no problem.
To be honest I also had a look for a possible solution like you suggested prior to my post --> I just was not confident that these suggestions will solve the issue since I read many times "tried - but no success"...
I just wanted to be sure, coming back from work, not to spend hours to solve it, if you already have "the one working" solution available. Once again many thanks - I really appreciate this community, even if its my 2nd active post...
Hi guys,
I have a Sony ericsson X10 mini pro with nAa's Kernel 2.6.32.60-nAa-05 and miniCM10-4.1.0-20130518-NIGHTLY and I also flashed:
gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip,
miniCM7-SEMC_kb.zip and
querty_br.zip
On top of that a internal memory of 192MB and a 16GB SDHC class10 SD card.
Boring story part (with more details and links and stickie just in case I forget something ) :
So far so good until I start installing apps and noticed that with a couple the memory was full. After a little research I found link2SD was the solution,
the SD card I have is more than fit for the job.
But then starter the problems, after I partitioned, with MiniTool,
my SD card as FAT32 (~13GB) and ext-N (2, 3 & 4) (~1GB) as primary none worked (at least for long).
I had some success with Ext-3 but the 2nd time I restarted my phone, Scrips were nowhere to be seen nor any linking of some kind.
Then (after more Googling) I tried both partitions as FAT32 and there it was working cool again.
Well went to download more apps, but memory was full, how so? I added a GB to it!
Found that I would, also, need to use A2SDGUI and it's Scripts (Version 2.7.5.3 Beta 04).
Flashed the scripts and then tried to run A2SDGUI not working pop's this error window:
Exiting A2SDGUI
Could not start for one of these reasons:
Your device is not rooted
A2SD scripts could not be found
No EXT partition found

Now I'm in trouble because android DOES NOT mount my 2nd partition if it's filesystem is not FAT32
(perhaps this is a scripting problem instead of Filesystem support ? )
And A2SDGUI is no longer being developed/suported.
Bottom line:
I installed link2SD but it only works when my 2nd partition is also FAT32, or else it won't mount,
and the phone internal memory continues to get shorter as I install apps.
Then I installed A2SDGUI and (Flashed) it's Scripts to try to JOIN the internal memory(/data)and SD card's 2nd partition so,
android doesn't give that annoying low memory error message.
I'm having trouble making andoid think that /data is ~1.2GB.
Can someone help me out on this? How can I "make" a "bigger" internal memory?
I searched Google but I couldn't find any GOOD answer to my question.
Shaameless self bump
Hello Everybody
I have Sony Xperia L ( Android 4.2.2 - 15.3.A.1.17 Firmware - Rooted - with locked bootloader ), ( I had never flash any custom ROMs or unlock the bootloader before )
I tried to extend my internal memory with the method of partitioning the SD card " That's why I rooted my phone !! "- I have 16 G.B SD Card - I downloaded the Minitool Partition software, and made the 1st partition 10 G.B Fat32 primary , and the 2nd partition 4.26 G.B Ext2 primary.
But when I insert the SD Card in the phone, I got bootloop issue, otherwise when I remove it, the phone operates normally.
I tried to make the 2nd partition format Ext3 and I got the same result, and Ext4 but at this time the phone operates normally but the SD Card couldn't recognized !!!! , and when I delete this 2nd partition, the phone operates normally.
So, please I need help to solve this **** issue
I'll be grateful, Thanks
Most likely because the tool you are using isn't very good for stuff like this. I know, it's weird, it creates the partitions and all of that, but something about the Windows tool that just messes things up. I've had the exact same problem on another phone. Typically gparted is recommended for these kinds of things. You should be able to set up a Ubuntu Live CD or bootable USB drive to use the gparted tool there.
Like so:

Though if you have a newer bootable Ubuntu version, you won't need to install gparted.
Thanks mate
I'm gonna try this, and I'll tell you the results.
but one question:
you mean I make a partition on linux and the other in windows ???
I mean I need to make a partition to link it with the internal memory and that's will be the ( Ext2, Ext3, or Ext4 ) , and the other will be for storing ordinary files.

I tried to changing the file system from Ubuntu Live DVD like you said ( Boot from the DVD not Installed ) and I used Gparted program ( Built-in the DVD ) and the same result
I have 2 questions:
1- Is the order of the partitions make change, I mean the right or the lift one in the Gparted program ???
2- Is that any other way to extend the internal memory please mention in the comment :crying:
Thanks....
