[Q] very easy questions, hopefully - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Would I be soft bricking my phone if I was to do any of these:
Format/ cache
Format/ system
For/ data
For/ sdcard
For/ enmc
Wipe data factory reset
Wiped cache partition
Wiped delvick cache
Wipe battery stats
If I was to carryout these steps at once in recovery would I softbrick my phone and if I do do that would I still have access to the download mode.
_----------------------------------------_
One more thing how do I get around md5 mismatch for the backups I have when I try to recover them. This md5 mismaych hasn't allowed me to recover nor one of my latest backups, I am hvimg to use a very old backup.

Yes you would soft brick your phone, you would just need to flash another rom via CWM or odin (Download mode).
You would also wipe both your SD cards, and basically everything else.

well in the first place only a person who's gone out of his mind will do all of those steps in one go so that his phone soft bricks to match his mind that has already been (Soft Bricked)

[Q] Data wipe/factory reset

I've had trouble wiping data and cache from CWM something has always gone wrong bootloops or whatever and have to flash to stock via odin. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I normally boot to recovery wipe data then cache and flash never seems to work.

[Q] flashing questions.

hello
my phone is sgs2 i9100
i have flashed my phone with odin several times, however i have a few questions.
when i flash a new firmware with odin i usually wipe my device and cache partition before, just in case, but even so, after i flash, my previous wallpaper remains, why is that?..could it be that some old data remained?..
the other question is about wiping dalvik cache, i know it is not needed when flashing with odin, but the last time i used that option my device went into bootloop, if i clear dalvik cache without flashing new firmware, is that normal that my device will get into bootloops?, and should i clear dalvik cache every now and then to speed up my device?
and is clearing dalvik cache is dangerous?..
if i am stuck in bootloop is there an easy way out without flashing again?
and one last question,
i prefer odin when flashing a firmware, rather then cwm, where can i find .tar custom firmwares and not .zip wich require to be flashed with cwm.
these question may have been answered before but i couldnt find them, so all help is greatly appreciated.

Hey mate,
clearing Dalvik Cache isn't dangerous because it's a kind of Prefetch folder from
Windows. So it's there to have some data from installed apps, but often hold it
after uninstall etc.... So don't be worry, u can clear it if u want
Hey mate!
Getting out of bootloop without reflash isn't really possible at most time.
U can try to do a factory reset and hope that system can boot then.
Odin flashable Firmware here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Odin Flashable Rom would be for example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334124
A factory reset is not a really full wipe... it's like throwing icons in trash bin,
but to delete really u have to clear the trash bin.
So do the following for Full wipe an go in CWM to:
- wipe factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- Advanced: wipe dalvik & wipe battery stats
- mount and storage: format data, format system & format cache
Hope I didn't forget anything of ur points and could help a bit
CHEERS
You could also try the thread - if you have a bootloop?! !? DOH

[Q] Debug during a recovery

Hi, I installed CWM custom recovery, and took several backups. I wanted to check that the backups worked so I tried to restore them. This just made my phone not boot (it sticks at the second screen which says "Samsung GT-i5500". (I can recover from this by re-flashing the stock ROM, but this still leaves me with some useless backups.)
Is there some way I can try to debug to see where it is going wrong? I have tried to use ADB logcat (from the android SDK) but it doesnt report anything ("still waiting for device").
I dont get any errors reported during the backup or the restore.
What I used...
Odin 4.28
Custom recovery: ClockworkMod-Galaxy5-v0.5.tar (When it runs it reports that it is version v4.0.1.5)
Closed down Keis.
Leave Odin controls at defaults and just add the OPS file and the above file for 'one package'
When doing restore I have run, from the recovery menu: clear cache, data reset, clear dalvik cache.
and then select the restore option
I have a samsung galaxy 5500
when restoring stock only restore data then wipe dalvik and cache.
flash stock rom then advanced restore data then wipe dalvik cache and cache.

Thanks ashley117, but I didnt understand this. It was a bit too brief for me to follow (I'm just new to android).
"when restoring stock only restore data"
Not sure how to do this - it only comes as a single package.
Or did you mean when restoring my backup?
I was wondering how much this would restore. Will it do everything that would have happened if restore was working - will it preserve unlocked phone and rooted phone etc?

ODIN Bootloop help - recover data

All bit of help, i flashed from the 6.01 beta back to 5.1.1 al stock as I want to use my Gear VR, i flashed back via ODIn all find but stuck in a bootloop, i know the usual process to sort this (either wipe the partition or master reset), the wipe partition failed, but prior to doing a master wipe how can i recover my data.
I thought in bootloader it had an option to connect to a usb, that way i figure i can copy all data off.
Any help is appreciated, just being cautious as I don't want to lose 2,000 odd photos.
bump
Does the TWRP work? I guess it works, and you can try wipe data/cache with that.
Yes can can to bootloader tried wiping the partition cache without success want to avoid a data wipe to preserve the data (photos)

Restoring Nandroid Backup Bootloop

How to restore a nandroid backup as exact state when I backed it up ?
I restore Nandroid backup this way = in TWRP 2.8.5.0
1. Wipe Cache
2. Wipe Dalvik Cache
3. Factory Reset
4. Restore Nandroid Backup
5. Wipe Dalvik Cache
6. Reboot System
7. Stay some time in Manufacturer boot screen
8. After 2 -3 mins, starting to bootloop.
I am restoring backup stock over stock. Never installed Custom ROM.
I brick my phone by installing some MODs I made myself or by some other developers. (Like XtremeMusic MOD bricked my device etc.).
Well. I can get back my phone at working state if I wipe everything. Wipe everything before restore and Dalvik Wipe, Format Data , Factory Reset (This is compulsory otherwise welcomed with bootloop) after restore in a order to restore Nandroid at my phone.
Well. This won't bring back my phone at exact state I backed it up.
So whats the fix ?
