I had the same problem last night. With Debugging off, kies would see but not connect - also a drive would appear but took ages to view the files, but would not allow opening, copying or deleting. With Debugging on, 2 removalbe drives would appear but would get an error message.
I know that it is not a solution, but switching off and on the SGSII fixed the problem. With Debugging off, Kies connected straight away. With Debugging on, the PC actually let me see inside the 2 Removeable Drives (internal and external SD).
I am going to have a search and find out what is causing the problem.
Thanx for reply ill have to try this as soon as i get home from work.

Hello,
i got a little Problem with my X10 (2.3.3 - rooted) and my Notebook (Acer - Win 7 64 bit).
I tried all ways to install the driver to use USB-Debugging but it won't install. The Device-Manager still tells me SEMC USB as unknown
I tried the usual way, start the phone with holding 'back', install the drivers manually...
Are there any other ways to get it working ?
Same goes for me,
Device manager states that the device is unknown, flashtool not working, PC companion no hope (connected to different USB ports including those of the motherboard).
it used to work but no chance now.
it charges normally from the USB (Orange LED) but would not connect to the PC.
Details:
Windows 7 x64
Gigabyte X58A-UD3R
Bootloader Unlocked Xperia X10 with 2.3.3 ROM and Doom's Kernel (the latest one)
The guy here says it is related to either windows windows update or faulty cable

Didn't help...
But installing PC Companion did it
PC Companion install drivers automaticlly, that is the best solution.

I tried removing and installing PC Companion but it didn't work either.
Any help guys?
Changing the computer had no effect as well
You must install SEUS ( Sony Ericsson Update Service ). Only SEUS will install right driver. Problem with SEUS is that when you look on SE official site, they tell you that SEUS for X10 no longer persist, and they guide you to PC companion which is crap.
Try this: try to connect your phone with PC, in flash mode. PC will try to install your phone driver but it can't find it. Then in Action Centar, on PC, (a small flag in sys tray, right down corner of a screen) find solution for this problem, and windows will automatically find SEUS over net. Install and enjoy.
from X10i via XDA premium
tried that but no luck as well (even in flash mode SEUS can not detect the device)
Thank you
hello i found a way and it worked for me download flash tool and extract it look for a folder called drivers in there u will find something called ggsetup-2.2.0.10
run this install it and all done
@huzi7868 thank you for your help
However, that didn't succeed and I reinstalled windows and drivers again, but still not working
Even no luck when the phone is in flashmode
Just tried it on a third Computer and checked the cable but the cable is working on another HTC Desire but not on my Xperia X10 (I mean my X10 cable), however they are both charging
try flashtools, there's a folder called 'drivers' in it, open it and click on the installer

I agree, I also have solved in this way.
Download the latest version of Flashtool and after installing it you will find in the "drivers" folder the file "Flashtool-Drivers.exe".
Run it and select the drivers you need. Then connect again your Xperia X10
I really appreciate your help, but I had done that 3 times and on different computers but "USB Device not recognized"
As I sad before, use SEUS to install SEMC USB DRIVER. I have win 7 64bit, and I install driver on it. First, install Update service. When its finished, start Update Service and follow instruction (check "Licence Agree" button, and click next, then pick your phone, X10i I suppose, be carefull there is two X10, One is X10, and other is X10 SO-01b. I pick X10 for myself, and press NEXT. Turn off your phone, press and hold BACK button on phone while connecting with PC via USB. HOLD till you see message to release BACK button. Till then your driver will be installed.
Download SEUS from here http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SBDVZ3DG
@Dzufa Thank you, but I had done that before and tried it again, whenever I connect the phone pressing the back button the green LED illuminates and "USB device is not recognized" appears and nothing happen after that, SEUS just behaves like nothing is connected.
Try with this one. And I think you must be online, because SEUS must download some files.
I really did that and of course updated SEUS, as I said green LED illuminates and nothing happens even in flash tool (it used to work for ages but suddenly it stopped, it only charges)
BTW, I had flashed many kernels and ROMs before it happened so I am quite familiar with flashtool and SEUS, I unlocked the bootloader using 9lucas method and it worked after that I installed XSP ROM and the USB worked as well, however after 2 weeks or so, one day I left it connected it to the PC and I found that the phone turned off and refused to power on, I left it for a while in the charger then powered it on and it powered on, then it has refused to connect to the PC through USB since then.
Hi everyone,
I just got my new XP S and i tryed to update it with PC Companion.
But the update fail and now my phone is shut with a green led and i can't do a **** thing.
I tryed hard reboot but didn't work, I tryed to re-instal original parameters with Update service but fail again.
Has anyone experienced the same thing ? Or got a clue to help me ?
any error messages? what did you do about resetting the device? (power on, volume up)?
Just PC Companion said fail updating nothing more...
And yes i tryed power + vol up for hard reboot but like i said didn't work.
I had no idea... the weird thing is when i connect my phone on the computer the computer detect it but i can't do things :/
Well if i were you i'd try to get it recognized by flashtool and Flash it that way...
Hope you get it fixed else return it!

That would make sense, if you are booting it into fastboot mode without drivers, it would do that.
What they are speaking about above is Flashtool
Which is a program you can use to upgrade your firmware/reflash and such. It doesn't require you going into fastboot mode or anything. You follow the same steps as you do with SEUS and PC companion, you just need to download the firmware yourself and put it into the flashtool folder .
Sorry i was thinking about fastboot when i wrote but it's flashtool who recognize it.
When i do nothing just wait the phone disconnect and reconnect. I can't install things on it cuz it always disconnect during the process...
In the end I debugged my phone.
I went to see someone who's got the constructor software and he fixed it. That was the only way :/

This is the first time I am not able to solve it myself and I still don't know what was wrong. I humbly need help.
I got my Xperia S yesterday, it came with 1252-0023_6.0.A.3.67.
Not yet rooted, not yet unlocked (but it says yes it can be bootloader-unlocked)
I downloaded Flashtool 0.7.1.0 on my windows 7 32-bit PC.
Then I downloaded Xperia_S_6.0.A.3.73_NO_Generic.ftf from the frimwares compilation thread.
Phone was charged 60%.
I uninstalled the previous flashtool (FT) and installed the new one.
I connected my phone once to the PC, so the drivers would get installed, and copied a copy of the original build.prop for backup purposes, then disconneted the USB cable and turned off the phone.
Then I ran FT and selected the firmware. FT made its stuff and asked me to connect the phone.
I held pressed the VOL DOWN key connected the USB cable. Windows started installing more drivers and then nothing happened. Nothing. No green light, nothing.
Now Phone is OFF, nothing responds, will not turn on. Dead.
I tryed with PC Companion, with VOL UP while connecting the USB cable, but PC Companion says it needs to update itself for the phone, but it says sorry there's no update available you already have the latest version of PC Companion
Any ideas appreciated.
You can try a hard reset. Search for the combination.

Even when the phone was OFF, a Hard reset (waiting until 3 vibrations) worked.
Phone turned on.
BIG THANKS.
Now I must find WHY I couldn't enter flashmode.
Let's retry
EDIT OK flashed with another laptop and everything went smooth from SG .67 to NO .73
Curious... but not the firsttime.
Thank you again guys for your prompt support.
Hold the power and vol up for about 15 seconds till it vibrates 3 times

I have an SGS3 int'l version that has recently developed a USB issue after an unsuccessful attempt to update my firmware using Kies. Whenever the phone is plugged in via USB it will begin charging, but the PC doesnt recognize the phone at all. I have reinstalled kies with no luck.
Any ideas on the USB issue and how to possibly fix it?
Try reinstalling drivers.

I had same problem, and after 2 days to find a solution, i re-install win7 and it works directly
So you've got a problem with your win7.
:/

Ya I did all that...now Im stumped..
When I connect the s3 to the pc, the phone immediately pops up "connected as a media device" , but the pc is not showing anything or picking anything up...
Try it on another computer (preferably Windows 7).
That'll allow you to see if the issue is on phone- or computer-side.
